Reviews for Hotel Gerlach
Review 1:Ground floor café / bar spoiled by smoking - easy to fix... No WiFi signal in most of the rooms. ?no Ethernet connection in the rooms either. No desks for working in the room. The lobby area has some chairs and you can pick up WiFi here - but it is a drafty area with people coming in and out. The ground floor could be easily improved into a more comfortable, sociable café area for guests to access the internet. At present a large part is sectioned off into an area for gambling machines and smoking. The entrance areas to the Hotel Satel and Tatra Hotels have much nicer non-smoking cafes. I would choose one of these other two hotels for now...
Review 2:Great location, close to the train station. Warm, clean rooms. Comfortable beds. Rooms with either balconies or views of High Tatras. Excellent view from the 8th floor restaurant. Friendly, helpful staff. An excellent choice for a short stay, especially if arriving in Poprad late, as 24 hr reception. Excellent 'Marco' Restaurant nearby. Unique 'retro' 1970s feel to the hotel building. Makes a change from bland, modern interiors... Good value :)
Review 3:Top notch location if you want to be near the bus or train stations. Seen better days perhaps, but hard to gripe too much for what you pay. The room was clean.
Review 4:Staff was helpful and kind, we were travelling with a dog and they made it very easy! The bed was round shaped which was funny. The place has a special atmosphere of the 70s.
Review 5:Hotel from the 90s! The distinctive smell accompanies you from the lobby all the way to your room. Some may find it nostalgic :)
Review 6:Somehow we got a double room which was nice.
Review 7:Bathroom hasn't been cleaned properly - old dirt all over - while there's horrible detergent smell in the building. Hair drier should be available. Reception staff don't speak languages.
Review 8:Close to the downtown. Parking opportunity. Cheap.
Review 9:The room is not clean. The bath seems like it never been cleaned for a long time. No WIFI in the room There is no cleaning during your stay They speak only Slovak and some German, no English..
Review 10:Close to main train station and supermarket
Review 11:The bed was in bad shape, it is worn and sinks to the ground in the middle. The furniture is mid 80's, bulky and broken. Concrete pieces are falling off the terrace and the whole place is dirty and disgusting in every inch. We had to clean the toilet and the bath before we dare to use it. It was our worst night in our trip. Definitely not reccomend it and won't ever return,
Review 12:The hotel was fine for a nights stay while passing through en-route to Poland, bed linen was clean, although the bath didn't look like it had been cleaned in some time. The bathroom needed a refurb desperately.
Review 13:Convenient for the railway station.
Review 14:we didnt have much expectations for this price, so we werent dissapointed, although the hotel doesnt deserve 3 starts at all, you have an impression that time stopped there: it was probably build in the 60s and nothing's changed!!
Review 15:The location was very good, just 5 minutes walking distance to the station
Review 16:The hotel is a little dated and the staff spoke little English. However, they did speak German.
Review 17:Friendly staff and beautiful view from the breakfast room on the top floor!
Review 18:;)
Review 19:There is no problem with it!
Review 20:Close to the railway station, cheap, clean, nothing special, but a good choice!
Review 21:Shower is so dirty
Review 22:dirty, smelly towels... wifi only at lobby
Review 23:Close to center
Review 24:Great location. Fantastic views of the mountains from the top floor restaurant. Comfortable room.
Review 25:Bathroom possibly never refurbished since hotel was built
Review 26:Proximity to station
Review 27:minutes by foot from tain and bus stations
Review 28:excellent staff, great location
Review 29:Bathroom looked very old.
Review 30:Very good breakfast, nice personal, not far away from train-station.
Review 31:Hotel seems a little bit old, very old bathroom but clean
Review 32:Comfortable room, friendly stuff, parking. Breakfast is not included, but very good for the price and with amazing panoramic view of the Tatra mountains
Review 33:It is a pity that it is not possible to have lunch or dinner in the restaurant of the hotel.
Review 34:We spent 2 nights in Hotel Gerlach in Feburary. We had a large room, in the style of the early 70', which is a fashion now. It was clean, comfortable. Sure, the whole hotel building needs renovation, but the rooms are acceptable, and the price is very friendly. The lady at the reception spoke English, was nice and welcoming with us. The breakfast room has a big size panorama window, with a beautiful view to the High Tatras. The hotel is easy to find, and close to the railwaystation. Ideal place for excursions. We will probably go back in April.
Review 35:Very old furniture everywhere- looks like it has not been changed for 40 years (since the old good times of the hotel). A complete "retro style". Weak wi-fi reception, only available downstairs in the lobby and in Cafe.
Review 36:Location and parking
Review 37:The room and bathroom was just awful, it's a joke not a 3-star hotel- the bathroom was still there intact right since the communist era.'Eros night club' at sevent floor doesn't help either.Though the location is good, the unreasonably high prices lead to poor value.
Review 38:The receptionist was very friendly but lost when more customers. We needed to ask for a room change as we got worse standard that we booked (shared bathroom). The hotel is very old and haven't been reconstructed for a long time, wouldn't call it ***hotel.
Review 39:Very close to the train/bus stop, not far from the city center.
Review 40:Talking into account how much I paid for this room I would not betoo critical
Review 41:Always wondered what the old communists hotel were like and I believethis is a revamped one the price is good and the Czech beer in cafedownstairs at 1 Euro a good deal
Review 42:Bathroom a disgrace, very shabby. Sink had no plug, holes where taps should have been, no shower curtain. Worst bathroom tissue ever encountered!
Review 43:Close to railway station. Superb view from breakfast room on top floor
Review 44:While the room was quite clean and comfortable, the bathroom was in the most horrible state imaginable: not clean at all, old bathroom fixtures, no shower curtain and just a small soap available. The hotel has also a particular kind of "night life": there is a night club on the 7th floor and all in all I had the feeling that the use of some rooms was connected to the activity of the night club.
Review 45:The hotel is close to Poprad station and has a 24 hours reception.
