Reviews for Lawrences Hotel
Review 1:Rooms are in need of some TLC (there is mold on the walls, etc) There were plenty of spider webs on the room, so even being an hotel facing a small forest, attention is needed In a 5*hotel, details like slippers in the room are expected
Review 2:Location Heritage of the building Staff Restaurant
Review 3:Sintra is a lovely town but there is a lot of tourist tat (expensive gift shops, cafes, restaurants). Lawrence's is a real haven from that. It's comfortable and a couple of classes above the rest. Lovely staff (I think Ana was the name of the girl on reception - very helpful and cheery), relaxed atmosphere, good food too.
Review 4:A bit dated facilities wise (bathroom - light wasn't working) but that's all part and parcel of the experience
Review 5:Location, quietness, cosiness & food
Review 6:No Internet at all in the hotel, it hasn't been set up properly. We waited a white to check in, as they hand write all your details instead of just photocopying your passport. The breakfast was cold and unappealing the rooms facing the street are noisy. Frantic rush to get into and out of taxi's as there is no place to park nearby.
Review 7:We were with great friends who made it great. It has great historic charm if you can put up with the other problems.
Review 8:There is no adjacent parking, so a car can be a problem, though we were always able to find street parking w/in 1/4 mile. WiFi is available in the lobby only. Both pretty minor stuff.
Review 9:Cool Historical Hotel of only 16 rooms in the heart of 'old downtown', hanging onto the side of a canyon which is like a 'bird park'. Best food in Sintra. Good breakfast. Helpful staff. 2nd visit and if we go back to Sintra, we definitely will again stay at Lawrence.
Review 10:The room was a little small but still good value for the money. No wifi in the room but there was free wifi in the sitting area which was very comfortable. Parking on arrival was a big problem. We had to park 15 minutes walk away as Sintra was really busy, as it often is apparently. The hotel should get itself 1 or 2 designated parking places outside at least for unloading. Lovely place though and great location
Review 11:Lovely atmosphere, setting, environment and setting. Beautiful building carefully restored. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great breakfast in a stylish dining room.
Review 12:Hotel could really do with a make-over. Rooms and decor dated and tired.
Review 13:The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had dinner and lunch in the restaurant and the food and service were both excellent.
Review 14:The bed was a bit hard, but we still had a good sleep. The wifi was spotty, so plan accordingly. We found the town's free wifi outside the hotel to be better.
Review 15:The suite was charming, spacious, and clean, with a gorgeous view. The breakfast was nice. The location was great - set back a bit from the main tourist center, but still close to lots of sites.
Review 16:They should have made it clear that the rooms on the street side will be very noisy as the street is very busy. Parking near the hotel is very hard to find. Wifi only in public area, and signal very weak.
Review 17:Nice old house. Helpful staff. Nice breakfast.
Review 18:Guests from room above were smoking and throwing cigarettes to our balcony and our suite, staff didn't take disciplinary measures. Staff form restaurant were complaining about other colleagues in front of guests, breakfast could have more options. Wifi was not available on the room
Review 19:The suite Was spacious and comfortable. Great location and nice staff at the reception, great rest, receptionist
Review 20:Suite was just a slightly smaller than usual room (for a five star hotel); no wi-fi in room; limited room service (breakfast not usually served in rooms for example); orange juice in an otherwise good breakfast was not freshly squeezed; dinner dreadful (a let down as the restaurant has a high reputation).
Review 21:Warm, attentive staff who could also be unobstrusive. Lovely old fashioned and romantic ambience.
Review 22:slightly down-at-heel hotel: could do with some upgrading. Bathroom rather basic and two single beds pushed together to make a double (doesn't work). Wifi worked in the library but not in the room.
Review 23:Pretty hotel, lovely location, friendly staff Very good dinner in the restaurant and breakfast was good too. Great staff
Review 24:Nothing
Review 25:It really was such a beautiful place to stay. The location is Sintra was perfect and the rooms were breathtaking!! The staff made my stay so comfortable and made it a truly wonderful and memorable experience.
Review 26:WiFi only available at reception level. Not available in the room .
Review 27:Location is excelent and personnel most helpful . Rooms have very nice view to the park. Nice restaurant with very good food and service.
Review 28:The room was tastefully decorated and is spacious. The location is ideal and the view from the restaurant is very scenic. We only dined there once and thought that the quality of the ala carte meals didn't match up to the rest the hotel had to offer. The complimentary breakfast is quite alright though.
Review 29:There was only wi if acess in the lobby - not a big deal as there was free wifi in sintra itself but this would have improved my experience.
Review 30:The room was lovely the location was amazing - beautiful view, staff were friendly, the shower was hot. I liked everything.
Review 31:No wifi in rooms. Average breakfast with poor coffee and inedible eggs.
Review 32:Fantastic dinner with lovely local wines and a wonderful maitre d'. Great location with lovely views of the woods and quiet room. Helpful, friendly front desk staff.
Review 33:The toilet window being in full view of passers by and neighbours. We not able to open the window for fresh air as it made us to visible to the road.
Review 34:The ambiance of the Hotel was appropriate but there needs to be some money spent to do maintenance . Especially the plumbing.
Review 35:Internet is super slow and hard to connect unless you stand near the reception area. I ended up using my own roaming data as it was too painful to use.
Review 36:I loved the seating areas to relax in, breakfast was superb and i loved the large bedrooms.
Review 37:Room was cleaned despite us leaving the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door; wifi only covers the tiny lobby area (not even the living room half a floor above it).
Review 38:Room was quiet and spacious (we had the Lord Byron suite), with amazing views of the greenery and the valley below. Nonetheless, it felt private and cozy.
Review 39:The breakfast selection is limited, but pretty good.
Review 40:The location is very good. Easy walking distance into the town center & to catch buses to all sites.
Review 41:Wifi wasn't in the room but it's good to be away from internet sometimes. Good connection in the common area downstairs with nice sofas.
Review 42:Good location, excellent view (stayed in room William Beckford), nice breakfast with good selection of local cheese, good restaurant as well.
Review 43:The bed was hard and lumpy and actually hurt me to sleep on.
Review 44:Beauty of our room and the views. Hotel itself was also very pretty and quiet. A lovely place.
Review 45:-
Review 46:I brought my parents to Sintra and wanted them to stay in a nice hotel with a feeling of historical place. Even poet Lord Byron lived here and many other famous people. We were staying in february 2015 and hotel was pretty empty and got nice discounts. Standard room was not that big, but had beautiful interior. My parents mostly enjoyed spending time in the evening by the open fire. Hotel is nicely located in the center of Sintra, so its easy to reach other places of interest (parks). Views from our room were astonishing.
Review 47:Some people might object to the fact that wifi is only available in communal areas, but since these were so comfortable and well-appointed, it was a pleasure to sit there (and have the chance to meet other guests).
Review 48:Friendly staff, great food and wonderful sundowner views from our room (the Byron Suite).
Review 49:The wifi does work only in a separated area.
Review 50:The atmosphere is something exceptional. The building is in excellent condition and renovated with skill. The staff is nice and friendly. Also the restaurant fulfils high expectations.
Review 51:The bed was so old that we could feel the springs of the mattress. We were only given shrugs by the staff when we shared our discomfort. This was a real shame as it's not something one would expect from a 4 star hotel. While the staff were attentive, the food was unfortunately poor and not at all worth the amount of money that they charged.
Review 52:The setting was lovely, the interior of the hotel charming and the staff were attentive.
Review 53:It does not have parking, and that's a problem in Sintra
Review 54:Lovely hotel and room. Staying in the terrace of the room, surrounded by nature is simply awesome. Besides, both the staff and breakfast were really great
Review 55:the mattress the lift the parking (surround parking as the hotel doesn't have it)
Review 56:the view the breakfast the staff the place and the environment Sintra
Review 57:Exterior of the building very shabby Garden area overgrown and veryneglected Room Badly cracked wash hand basin Taps leak and swivel aroundBath very pitted Shower leaked Toilet seat - seat damaged and a hygieneconcern Hooks to back of door broken Bed - damp Wardrobe - open woodrail hangers had to be slanted Clothes dragged on stone wall Lightingpoor throughout Breakfast - coffee cold Scrambled eggs left in warmer toset Poor service Overall I was appalled to have to pay 170 Euros for aso called 5 Star Hotel which was not worthy of a 2 Star rating We hadbooked for 5 nights and remained 1 We have photo evidence should yourequire it I would appreciate hearing the outcome from my review as Iwould not like to think that it would be ignored
Review 58:Sadly nothing
Review 59:One of us did hear the central heating during the night, but ya boo to him cos the other slept like a baby. Parking was difficult but given the location this is only to be expected given how busy Sintra is during the day but from early evening it was no problem to find a space close to the hotel.
Review 60:Lucky to have a 2 night stay in this enchanting place. Welcoming and very capable, helpful staff throughout the hotel made this a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Loved the room - Casa de Cha. Very good breakfast and 1st class dinner. Romance, character and history. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Review 61:The mattress on the bed was hard, but it was the same in my previous hotel in Lisbon so maybe that is the Portuguese style.
Review 62:A good location, good food and helpful staff.
Review 63:No tea , coffee in room . had to pay for cup of tea on arrival .
Review 64:Reception staff very helpfull
Review 65:Do restaurante
Review 66:Dos quartos
Review 67:Location, history, romantic
Review 68:Our double room had only enough space (one chair) for only one person to sit and read.
Review 69:Very helpful staff and generally very attractive hotels decor.
Review 70:only one soup, bath gel, shampoo. little towels, no bathrobe, no slippers
Review 71:overall good
Review 72:Bed was very uncomfortable. We woke up with back aches every morning. Clearly the beds need to be changed.

Review 85:The staff were very helpful and supplied wood for the fireplace so we could sit and enjoy the fire.
Review 86:it is an old hotel, I can not get internet access in the room

Review 94:Beds wee too old and uncomfortable, some lights in the room were broken. The toilets were damaged etc
Review 95:Staff is helpful and restaurant is nice
Review 96:car parking is at times difficult (all over Sintra) only a small terrace, no real garden
Review 97:good food, nice and charming hotel, good location
Review 98:Charming atmosphere, a real place, friendly staff.
Review 99:Rather uncomfortable bed!!
Review 100:Near to centre genuine Portuguese building good food, dinner excellent
Review 101:In fact there wasn't anuthing to dislike in this stylish and friendly place, but I would have been happy with a wather boiler and some tea bags available at our room :-)
Review 102:Very friendly, authentic and helpful staff: they brought us a marvellous, healthy and very good tasting breakfast at our room at 6.30am because we had to leave early to catch our flight. After having been hiking to three of Sintra's fairy tale castles and a dinner in the hotel's famous restaurant, we have slept wonderfully in the large bed with a very good matress. I especially loved our room with some pieces of antique furniture and the large, private balcony where we could here the sound of the wind in the surrounding trees.
Review 103:Having asked for a taxi the previous evening, allowing half an hour to travel about a mile to the station, the day staff decided to be relaxed on time - took a lot of shouting before they found one and we reached the station with minutes to spare - left us totally frazzled
Review 104:Staff were very pleasant. Good that we were able to book dinner as well as breakfast. Spacious room with lovely view (Bella Vista)
Review 105:it is not 5 stars! No parking or valet service, no help with leggage, only person on recepcion for everything ( girl was very nice), Bathrobe on request, no sawing kit. No room service, We came at 10,00 p.m restaurant was already closed.
Review 106:Location is perfect. Good hotel but for 4 stars.
Review 107:Olde worlde hotel so don't expect everything to be perfect. This is a place for those who put style and history ahead of modern amenities.
Review 108:Perfect location for exploring Sintra.
Review 109:A cosy hotel with a discreet, charming ambience, good food and ideally located. Staff are friendly, the rooms were amply sized and there were interesting public areas tucked away for reading, surfing or chatting.
Review 110:Bedroom could have been better, Chipped toilet, light switch hanging out of the wall, Bedcovers looked old
Review 111:Staff were very helpful and polite Breakfast was wonderful
Review 112:One of the stars is own to Lord Byron and other previous guest´s: more information on the history of the place and the life of it´s previous guests would be an asset.
Review 113:A wonderful and elegant place to stay in the very hart of Sintra. Good food, excellent staff, tasteful decoration, comfortable rooms. The history of the place and previous guests makes it all more meaningful. Walking distance from Palácio de Sintra, Amazing Quinta da Regaleira and Seteais.
Review 114:What's not to Like?
Review 115:Charming hotel with great location and really terrific restaurant. Staff very courteous and helpful. They even provided a mattress cover for an otherwise pretty hard bed.
Review 116:Parking was at a premium near the hotel....it is a case of being lucky to find a place! Oh dear, no (English) marmalade at breakfast ! hehe I didn´t care too much for the heavy rain !!! (but who does?)
Review 117:Hotel is quite charming and extremely well located. Was warm with Central Heating, and with fires in the sitting rooms. Water was always hot. Staff were friendly and informative and helpful. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. but see the didn't panel.
Review 118:There are only three parking places near the hotel, so you forced to seek the place in the mountain town where parking places are very rare. Rooms have no Wi-Fi, but only near a fireplace (not so bad).
Review 119:I liked all. Comfortable rooms (we live in Eca de Queiros), excellent restaurant (Octopus and Wellington were delicious), cozy places near the fireplace (it was a big please to sit there in the evening with my tablet PC during the rain in January). We lived like at home and dedicated staff was our family.
Review 120:No hotel parking (it could be an issue on high season)
Review 121:Good position (center of the city, very easy to walk around) Very helpful staff Fireplace in the suite (wonderful) Very cosy
Review 122:bathrooms could do with a face lift. the other problem is no parking which is a major problem in Sintra. suggest they buy a shuttle and arrange parking area?
Review 123:everything charming.
Review 124:No parking at all. No internet in the room. No swimming pool and health club . Noisy room inside between upper and lower room, and noisy outside because of the street. British disdain at the desk. Surprising for a five stars hotel...
Review 125:Location in the center of Sintra View of the garden.
Review 126:Wifi access needed in bedrooms
Review 127:It's charm, cleanliness, view from my windows, coziness & romance, it's proximity to other sights & shopping. How it is nestled in the lovely village of Sintra, it's superb restaurant, last but not least it's professional & friendly staff. Beautiful.
Review 128:The suite was charming but the bathroom was outdated and many things were not working well. The shower rod was not attached to the shower and fell down .The handle on the tub came off and the toilet seat was wobbly.
Review 129:The atmosphere was lovely and quaint. The restaurant was very good with excellent service. The staff was pleasant and helpful.
Review 130:it has an unfitted bath tube and a floor that makes alot of noise.
Review 131:-the staff is kindly and helping -the location is wonderful -very confortable and very clean -it is one of the most wonderful places that I boooked before
Review 132:Would be useful if the internet was available in all rooms and not just the ground floor.
Review 133:Sintra and the surrounding area is a beautiful place to visit and Lawrences Hotel has a great setting with wonderful views. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and I would definitely recommend it to others
Review 134:The Lawrence 's is a very historic and romantic hotel. The balcony and the view from our room were so special. The staff is pleasant, amenable and knowledgeable. We were very happy and comfortable there.
Review 135:We were traveling with a small baby and the staff didn't lift a finger to help us with our luggage. The hotel is a bit dark inside.
Review 136:Awesome ambiance - lots of character. Our room was really cute and the breakfast was simple yet plentiful. The views from our room were beautiful and the location can't be beat.
