Reviews for Hotel D'Urville
Review 1:Love the individual rooms. The hotel is beautiful. The night we had dinner there was lovely too. All the staff were exceptionally helpful and it was really close to the vineyards.
Review 2:A little noisy at night but no more than you would expect from an inner city hotel. Couldnt sleep with the window open which was a shame but was our choice to stay centrally rather than in a B&B
Review 3:Very handy location. Excellent friendly, helpful staff. Enjoyable evening meal. Limited menu but good quality food so a sensible way to organise the menu
Review 4:The rooms are beautiful, but being an old building, there is a price to pay, the rooms are noisy, (we could hear other guests) the floors squeak horribly and the old fashioned bathrooms, which while i'm sure are authentic are pretty unpleasant. Given these issues the price for a night was quite high.
Review 5:Hotel D'Urville is a beautiful interesting building and the rooms are too, unfortunately this does not make up for the facilities which although authentic were not the most pleasant.
Review 6:Overpriced. Bathroom was very cramped, and mouldy. Continental breakfast was very ordinary ... poor for cost of accommodation. Coffee was appalling. Wifi was not as promised.
Review 7:Friendly staff. Great location.
Review 8:The bathroom was very small.
Review 9:The location was central and it was very quite despite being in the centre of town. It was walking distance to restaurants.
Review 10:Not your fault but you need to get the police to stop the larrikinism in the street late at night. Your police are letting your city down.
Review 11:Food was great and staff were happy and helpful.
Review 12:Tiny bathroom, no mirror at table in room, no power points at table height which makes it difficult for doing hair and make-up. If one person is in the bathroom the other guest can do nothing? Our laundry was tumble dried when instructions were given to wash in cold water and be careful with cotton items. Consequently the clothes shrunk and are now useless. The hotel was sorry, accepted responsibility and reduced the cost of our stay by one night.
Review 13:Location, great restaurant, large room.
Review 14:nothing
Review 15:I have lived locally for 4 years & never been inside. Now I know what I've been missing, I'll definitely be back. Gorgeous themed rooms steeped in local history. Superb food served with care & attention. Excellent customer service from arrival to departure.
Review 16:Room was gorgeous. For a midwinter break the room got to a toasty temperature quickly. Bed super comfortable, linen was lovely quality. Wonderful shower, luxurious towels and lovely smells in bathroom. Complimentary port was a bonus.
Review 17:The rooms while comfortable were alot smaller than expected after seeing pictures and have stayed in similar 'luxury' places with larger/comfier rooms for alot cheaper. The food was not up to standard of the price charged, but still good food.
Review 18:The staff were all really lovely and helpful, especially liked the decanter of port left for guests as a nightcap.
Review 19:Have stayed before quite a few years ago - it is just as I remember it. Liked it before, still like it for its relaxed sophistication. Excellent restaurant, great décor, good location in the town and for exploring the region.
Review 20:The room was a really odd shape making everything awkward. The bed was hard and unforgiving. There was no ventilation to the room other than opening a window and it was noisy outside.
Review 21:The mattress was not comfortable. Bathroom whilst quirky was not really functional. The room was on first floor and on the main street side and very noisy from the street as well as the restaurant. I would ask for a room on the quiet side.
Review 22:Jetti the Maitre'D was fabulous. The restaurant was wonderful. Room was quirky and fun. (Raja Room)
Review 23:The owners have obviously paid a lot of attention to detail in turning the building into a hotel. Our room looked expensively done out. Unlimited free Wifi was a great plus it actually delivered good throughput, a rarity in New Zealand hotels as we have come to realise.
Review 24:We stayed in the Venus Room (#7) and loved its mix of elegance and funkiness. We were there three nights so we appreciated having the space (biggest en suite bathroom in the hotel, the info told us) and nice views to the mountains. We spent both of the two full days biking in the wineries (Steve from Wine Tours by Bike picked us up - a smart move as we are not accomplished cyclists and the main roads around Blenheim are very busy). Very friendly staff and good food.
Review 25:Breakfast was only average, and extra was charged if a cappuccino was requested. The bill was incorrect on checkout as we were charged for a breakfast tea in error! This was corrected when queried.
Review 26:The hotel was close to the town centre which was pleasant enough during the day, but was a ghost town in the evening when we arrived. The Manager was very helpful and arranged an excellent vineyard tour for us with a separate company.
Review 27:Breakfast not available for early checkout. No one on the desk to take the room key.
Review 28:A delightful room. We also liked the complimentary port outside the room in the hall.
Review 29:Jetti greeted us with a warm welcome and made us feel at home. We had a beautiful comfortable room. Only comment is because it's an older building the wood floors creak a bit. We were fortunate to have dinner at the hotel restaurant and it was superb. I highly recommend both the hotel and the restaurant.
Review 30:Central to town. Sat night a bit noisy outside (club throwing out time). All other nights very quiet.
Review 31:Location (Central town), good restaurant & bar area. Friendly staff, free port, excellent stay.
Review 32:wifi was challenging. no electric blankets on bed.
Review 33:Beautifully presented rooms, had a fabulous shower in my room which I find very important. Staff were exceptionally kind and helpful to my elderly parents who were travelling with me
Review 34:Comfortable hotel in good location
Review 35:Room was advertised as a Queen Suite, it was a smallish queen room, comfortable but way overpriced at $290.
Review 36:Old. Very small bath rooms. Squeaky flors
Review 37:Staff were very helpful and obliging. Enjoyed the restaurant.
Review 38:Location, fantastic restaurant on-site, staff, lovely restored bank.
Review 39:Wifi, room layout.

Review 57:Central location, parking, heritage building with lots of character, warmth and charm
Review 58:Restaurant was great, rooms quite unique and lovely
Review 59:Booking.com advertised as free breakfast but it wasn't carried over to the booking This was a Booking.com problem not the hotels

Review 70:creaking floors
Review 71:style of accommodation & meals-friendly staff
Review 72:creaky floor boards wifi was challenging
Review 73:Must eat at the FINZ restaurant - what a treat Hotel is gorgeous, fantastic location Staff great, friendly and helpful Restaurant service is without compare amazing
Review 74:Some design faults with room (impractical mirror in bathroom, seatingonly for one in a 2 person room) which I'm sure will be taken careof for future.
Review 75:Gorgeous heritage building, right in the centre of Marlborough winecountry; very helpful staff.
Review 76:Parking is a nightmare & for this reason alone I wouldn't go back. Room was on the small side & emphasized by the ridiculously large furniture. Wooden floors were creaky & room was cold without heat pump going constantly. Grand appearances let down by no attention to detail - no soft close toilet seats for example.
Review 77:Comfortable bed & handy to centre of Blenheim.
Review 78:The room had a very strong smell of bleach, which was unpleasant although I felt assured the bathroom was very clean! The air conditioning unit in the room was noisy enough that I bought earplugs so I could get a decent night's sleep, but that fixed it.
Review 79:The rooms were gorgeous. The restaurant was fabulous. The staff were brilliant, friendly and helpful.
Review 80:Having to pass through the restaurant to get to the stairs to our room. I realise there was another exit door but it seemed to be locked when I tried to go out that way. The red carpet was a bit "loud" Not sure if there was a lift. If not, could this be mentioned on the website. My Mum has sore knees and can do stairs but it is a bit slower for her.
Review 81:I liked the original vault doors and the décor in our room. Breakfast was very good in the dining room. Lovely setting and relaxed. The antique furnishings and explanation of them in the folder was very interesting.
Review 82:a small, funny smelling bathroom, rooms pricey
Review 83:Nice, historic hotel, excellent on-site restaurant
Review 84:No lift. The room was rather small and the bathroom just adequate.
Review 85:Great location and interesting heritage building
Review 86:The rather grand dimensions of the architecture and the history of it.
Review 87:No lift and a little bit pricey but we booked too late and had no choice.
Review 88:An amazing bottle of port just kept getting refilled every night.
Review 89:Nice location and nice ambiance
