Reviews for G Hotel Gurney
Review 1:If you're remotely interested in breakfast option, take it when you're reserving. It went from RM 25 online to RM 65 when we got to the hotel. My parents' room had a number of maintenance issues (bulbs that blew, door lock that malfunctioned repeatedly). Staff wasn't great about proactively solving the issue. They should have offered a room switch but instead suggested that my parents keep trying the room key "because it malfunctions sometimes but eventually opens."
Review 2:Great location near plenty of food options with readily available cabs. Clean, spacious rooms. Complimentary mini-bar with refills is a big plus! Concierge had a great Nyonya recommendation otherwise they weren't great about suggesting places to go / eat.
Review 3:The food were not tasty at all. I am very disappointed with the buffets during dinner. No wonder the restaurant was empty. The GM should go down and try the food himself. Please let me know if he think the food is fantastic.
Review 4:Location is fantastic.
Review 5:Staff not very friendly and was given an opened bottle of complimentary mineral water. Housekeeping always missed out on hand towels. Hotel package was prepaid but was charged upon check-in for deposit, which staff claimed they did not actually charged, only hold the amount (which is not true as I received a sms from my bank saying amount had been charged) and amount will be released upon check-out. However upon check-out, staff said deposit amount will only be refunded by their bank 14 days later.
Review 6:Location of hotel, very convenient for shopping and food.
Review 7:Traffic was so heavy getting into and out of the hotel because we were driving. This has to be addressed soon as Gurney Drive is clogged up with traffic every night.
Review 8:Convenient location.
Review 9:Service not up to expectations. Even though is my second trip stay,i still got the feedback that room is fully booked and wanted to xfer us to G Hotel at Kelawai which we not prefer. Only upon we insisted then we got the room at Gurney.Pls improve in this issue.
Review 10:Location and cleanliness
Review 11:It would be great if the hotel provided a shuttle bus to the city centre
Review 12:The fragrance of the hotel lobby, the size of the room, the toiletries, the ice cream upon arrival and the malls in its vicinity.
Review 13:I tried to cancel my booking due to a family bereavement 48 hrs ahead of due check in date and was disallowed with my entire RM680 forfeited. Then I received harassing call asking whether I was going to check in probably with the intention of releasing the room to another customer when I have paid for it in full.
Review 14:It was terrible that nobody told me about the construction work they are doing to upgrade the rooms, and I got to suffer from 9:00 until late afternoon, the unconfortable noise of a pneumatic hammer on top of my head, non stop. When I complained in the front desk, the only thing they said was: we are sorry. No other option. Too sad for such a nice hotel.
Review 15:The payment mode was rather complicated. I have booked online with one of my credit cards and has been fully paid before my arrival. Upon checking in, I have to produce that credit card to show to the staff. Normally I do not necessarily bring the same credit card with me when I travel. Initially I thought I left it at home and gave them a different card which to my astonishment was not acceptable. They would have to reverse my earlier payment and recharge to the card I presented at the counter. That meant I would have duplicate payments and until the earlier amount is refunded which could take 2 to 3 weeks!! I have to search my whole bag for the earlier card praying that it's in one of the wallets. Luckily I found it.
Review 16:The room size was decent and my request for the seaview was arranged.
Review 17:My room was facing the sea...unfortunately also the main road...there were cars racing down the road at 4.30 am!
Review 18:Clean sheets and amenities. Bed was excellent... Room was spacious. Staff are friendly and helpful .
Review 19:no door between the bedroom and lounge in the suite so problems if one person wants to sleep and the other watch TV it's a problem. Or, if one cannot sleep and wishes to read the light shining from lounge to bedroom is not good
Review 20:the friendliness of all staff
Review 21:The room is excellent, large and well equipped. The free items in the mini bar are a nice bonus, plus the fruit on arrival. The staff friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend adding the breakfast (excellent) to the booking.
Review 22:The front desk staff don't know how to smile and always look so moody. The breakfast is abit costly.
Review 23:The location is convenient. The bed and pillow is nice.
Review 24:1)Breakfast is average . 2)Construction noise from d renovation in the hotel . 3) stafff was more friendly when we stayed there 18 months ago ..
Review 25:Location is good for shopping & eating .
Review 26:Front office staff should communicate effectively. They should know that some credit cards numbers are not embossed.
Review 27:The bellboys are friendly n professional in their work. They made the guests feel welcome.
Review 28:We weren't informed of the renovation going on in the hotel and when we checked in, we were so tired and just wanted to rest but due to the noise from the renovations, we didn't manage to have a good rest till almost 6.30pm
Review 29:The single bed are pretty small size compare to other 5stars hotel
Review 30:Location n the staff are fantastic always give u a smile n helpful I really enjoy my stay
Review 31:We had to wait a long time to check in.
Review 32:We have been upgraded to the new hotel, 200 meters from the G hotel because their was some renovations going on. We had a very nice, quiet and comfortable room. The swimming pool area was also very nice.
Review 33:Hotel is noisy, family suites are connected to adjoining room with shared access door which means that the bedroom in the suite is very noisy when people are in adjoining room. Not a god design. There is a pumping nightclub in the Hotel which pounds out music until 3am and is very distracting. I would not recommend this Hotel for family stays at all.
Review 34:It is a handy location
Review 35:Low TV quality signal, only one cartoon channel, no water pipe at toilet seat, difficult to get in and out of bed,
Review 36:Location, space, toiletries soap, fast room service, friendly service.
Review 37:What i didnt like was there was this red beam near the toilet in the room. It is not just ugly but also very dangerous for smaller children and clumsy people. It has really sharp edges that can poke someones eye out.
Review 38:I loved how as we enter the building theres a lovely smell to it. It was very clean and refreshing after a long drive. Furthermore, i like how its very modern in its own way.
Review 39:Free minibar was well, a minibar. Minibar only had 4 soft drinks!!! A small pack of m&m and a small chocolate bar!!! Bit of a con job. Corridor carpets needs updating
Review 40:Executive suite with great breakfast and evening cocktails. Freezing air conditioning.
Review 41:Suite was a little basic....there was an overpowering smell of petrol on entering room at first but this faded throughout the day.....
Review 42:Convenient for adjacent mall
Review 43:We were informed by the reception that they had upgraded us to G Hotel Kelawai, and we would be brought there by the buggy. Was not impressed by that as we would have booked G Hotel Kelawai if we wanted to stay there. In the end, we managed to get our stay at G Hotel Gurney as we had other family members staying in the same hotel, which we informed the reception.
Review 44:The room is spacious, even for the most basic room (standard twin room) that we had booked. There is still space even after we added an extra bed for a third guest. The water pressure in the shower is great, which is important to us. The free minibar gives an added nice touch too. The hotel is also located next to two shopping malls and the Gurney Drive Hawker Centre. A good hotel to stay at if one just wants to shop and eat.
Review 45:The tap above the bathtub doesn't work in Room 410; we can't switch from running tap to shower head.
Review 46:Good location in a comfortable environment.
Review 47:When they can't arrange the room type which you want, although you had booked few months ago, they let you waited in front of the counter for half an hour, then the manager(Indian lady) can't listen to your need patiently and talked to you impolitely. This is call 5 star hotel and 5 star service?! My family and I won't choose this hotel anymore. Why pay more for 5 star hotel but you got low class services from the front counter.
Review 48:The hotel room is spacious, very clean and the bed is comfortable.
Review 49:Very poor customer service and housekeeping. 3 days in a row room were cleaned but no fresh towels provided and Aircon not working and technician could not do anything and was changed to a partial furnished room instead.
Review 50:None
Review 51:I had a problem on check out where I was told that I was being charged for the 'optional' breakfast. It took 20 minutes to resolve with senior staff called to sort this out delaying my departure. It did seem very petty to argue out such a small amount.
Review 52:This is a comfortable modern in a popular part of Georgetown. The hotel is well appointed with plenty of entertainment options close by. You can get coffee, lunch or dinner at several outlets nearby.
Review 53:System not accurate, door key always have problem , due too system not accurate always didn't clean my room due system was capture I'm check out on the same days.
Review 54:Convince for the food location and beside can have coffee
Review 55:wide wooden frame around it, knocked a few times. Corridor has a wet moldy stench. Hotel had an industrial air blower on all day long in an attempt kill the dampness, but I can hear fan the noise from my room.
Review 56:Receiption was great. Toiletries are of good quality.
Review 57:Poor coordination between the hotel and booking agent. On checking out, we were asked to settle the bills for rooms and breakfast although we have already prepaid them when we did the internet booking. Only after some arguments the matter was settled.
Review 58:Its proximity to shopping complexes and food outlets. Staff is cooperative. Like to single out Richard, the driver who sent us to the airport. He went an extra mile to return the stuff that we bought but unintentionally left it in the limousine.
Review 59:Very bad experience upon check-in. Staff at check-in couldnt articulate hotel service n needed help from her colleauges. Had requested for late checkout as flight was in evening but was told hotel full. We asked to pay for half day extension till 6pm n was quoted RM300 n we agreed. She handed us a form to sign n comfirmed our half day extension. But when we stepped into our room she called n told us hotel is fully booked n that we had to check out n couldnt extend. But we asked her to clarify the form we sign but she couldnt. Then her colleague took over n said that they will check n call us again. The call never came instead we had to go down to reception again n asked her! As usual she couldnt explain n another colleague took over. He quoted us RM391 for the half day! We had to waste half an hour jus to explain the situation to him n finally he agreed to honor what the earlier guy quoted us. When we checked out on Sun we saw that the rooms around us are undergoing change of door locks n not fully occupied at all :( So much to say about how they treat their guests n d undesirable poor service. No matter how nice the free icecream served at check-in was it just left a very bad aftertaste...
Review 60:-link to gurney plaza -free wifi
Review 61:It was a tiring day for me, went back to the hotel to rest for the night in order to drive back to KL the next morning, but ended up not being able to sleep through as there was a constant sound of what it seems like the water pump unit above my room.
Review 62:Location
Review 63:1) the stagnant water at the entrance of the bathroom - this side is lower than the other! 2) noise from the road - the room should be more sound-proof considering the price! 3) more privacy at the main entrance
Review 64:1) The friendliness and explanation of the staff who brought our bags up - Mr Jason. 2) The daily freebies eg drinks - thank you!
Review 65:The hotel was quiet and I was able to relax in the short gaps between a very busy schedule of activities. The view from the Club breakfast room is fantastic.
Review 66:There is no bathtub even in superior rooms.
Review 67:We love the location, which is the most convenient. We travelled with young children, who need access to restaurants, supermatkets, etc. G Hotel is therefore the best choice.
Review 68:requested for king size bed but staff claimed that they didnt get the request and that all rooms with double bed were full. they suggested to combine the 2 single beds into 1 and lay a mattress over. Waited for awhile for the staffs to get it done, but staffs said they did not get any instructions from the front desk. they took about an hour to get this done.
Review 69:location and that's all
Review 70:Stay can be made more enjoyable if staff can be even more meticulous and take note of the items that they issue out to customers were not faulty. An example is a hole in the towel, which I discover when using.
Review 71:The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, the service level of the staff are excellent.
Review 72:Limited bicycles the canned drinks
Review 73:THe infinity pool The free mini bar the coffee and tea making facilities Near to two shopping complexes Near to hawker stalls the welcoming tray upon checkin
Review 74:Requested for Superior room for more comfort and seaview. Only to learn that Standard rooms have better chances of getting seaview.
Review 75:Bed was very comfortable. Walking distance to Gurney Mall and hawker stalls.
Review 76:the hotel is getting old.. 1st room we get .. The bathroom door is damage. 2nd room we get the TV program is without astro. Too many defects for 5 stars hotel.
Review 77:location, comfort of the room
Review 78:Minor comment: as the hotel reception had a chic, modern look, I expected the same of the rooms. However, the rooms have a tired feel from the worn carpets and slightly dated furnishings.
Review 79:Away from the buzz of Georgetown. Right next to Gurney Plaza and a few mins' walk from Gurney Paragon. Some rooms have a nice sea view.
Review 80:We however were extremely disappointed and unhappy that our online booking request was not honoured/received by the Hotel Receotionist, that we were told she had never received any of our online requests for 1 room with King Bed and the other room with a double King Singles for our kids, as well as having both rooms closed to one another. We also requested for the rooms to be on higher floor. She said she could only give us one room with King Bed on level 5 and another room with also King Bed on a different level. I told her I would prefer to at least have both rooms on the same floor and I was told I have to wait for the second room till 7pm that evening. This check in experience had really ruined the starting of our holiday in Penang and certainly the CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE in staying in G Hotel, despite the positive points this hotel has to offer!
Review 81:We like the location, free car park, free mini bar, comfortable bed and other facilities like swimming pool.
Review 82:Air conditioning was a little cold in the room even when we set it to 25 degrees.
Review 83:Good value for money. Very helpful staff all around and a great location for shoppers with two malls within 2 minutes walk of the hotel and a local food center also 2 minutes away.
Review 84:The rooms are big (almost too big), but are pretty dated. The concierge was not very helpful with suggestions and when I wanted to make a lunch reservation at another hotel, they input the number into the telephone and gave me the phone to make the reservation. All the hotels I've stayed at would have also helped me make the reservation.
Review 85:Location is good and with lots of food options nearby.
Review 86:Check in was totally unsatisfactory; there was still no room available when we arrived at 2:45 PM when official check in was 3:00 PM. I realised during my stay that this is a daily occurrence as new guests arrived. The Executive Lounge carpet flooring is very worn out and in some areas were torn!
Review 87:The available selection of types of pillow and the comfort of the bed were great. The very good connection of unlimited Free WiFi anywhere in the hotel is also fantastic!
Review 88:Good location and comfortable room. Use to stay hotel around batu ferringgi, but due to the big amount of tourists visiting Penang, quite congested to go in batu ferringgi.
Review 89:Bristles on the toothbrushes are very hard indeed.
Review 90:Location, personal touches by the staff and spacious room. The bed is big enough to accommodate two adults and two preschoolers comfortably.
Review 91:A tad overpriced.
Review 92:Totally enjoyed the complimentery evening cocktails, complimentary minibar, and chance to have breakfast in the executive lounge overlooking the coast. Great pleasant and attentive service staff.
Review 93:More control over the air-conditioning in the room. Too cold at times for comfort. Toilet is a bit too small for a suite.
Review 94:The executive lounge with lovely view and complimentary evening cocktails. Gym is well equipped and pool is nice.
Review 95:The air cond is too cold inside the room even I adjust to 30degree, when I check in the front desk staff told me the computer system is down n cannot get my booking record n lastly after I return home I found my mobile phone charger has left behind inside the room then I called the lost n found dept but they never return call to me
Review 96:The location is good n also the room size
Review 97:No bathtub for a 5* hotel, no bidet, bed was uncomfortably hard, they claim orthopaedic mattress, excessive use of artificial fragrances. BBQ spread limited. One particular staff Thiru was uncool in attempting to remove us for just sitting, from the lounge for their wine and cheese tasting function. All in all a 4* hotel but 5* charges.
Review 98:Excellent location and staff in general except one.
Review 99:1) The wireless is so damn slow, just like those days when we used the dial up connection. 2) The room key card system is just hopeless. During our stay, have to replaced the cards 4 times. It can be accessible to lift but not the room door.
Review 100:Staff opening door without any notification. Lucky my was only sleeping and not changing clothes
Review 101:Right next to Gurney Plaza Excellent lobby Good bar service Free Wifi Free Bar Fridge Good selection of TV Separate computer desk to the sleeping area
Review 102:Heavy traffic along the road infront of the hotel have created noises till late at night especially over the weekends. Suggest to increase the variety of food in the Executive Lounge both during breakfast and evening time.
Review 103:Convenient location with Shopping Centre just besides the hotel
Review 104:Just one thing is missing in bathroom there is no water supply near to toilet seat.
Review 105:We really love our stay, loved the breakfast, loved the room We will come back soon......
Review 106:Corridor has no aircon
Review 107:Staff makes you feel important and special - we got upgraded and every questions was answered with a smile and politeness regardless of how silly they were etc... and how simply we dressed down - they still ensure we feel important with their response and smiles
Review 108:Good location at seaside. But can't imagine how can a high price hotel don't have bidet and bathtub. This is ridiculous. Staff is friendly n helpful. Massage service was not relaxing as expected.
Review 109:Location of hotel is right next to Gurney Plaza & Hawker Food. Great shopping, food court (basement), restaurants & street food within 5 mins walk. Room is spacious and comfortable. Bar fridge is complementary. Bed is comfortable with a choice of pillows. Gym & pool are very nice. Wifi is free and stable. Nice sofas and lounges in the hotel lobby & mezzanine for chilling.
Review 110:Unfortunately the staff were not always helpful. We had a booking for 20 people - one got sent to the wrong room twice when checking in, and one had their executive access revoked halfway through the stay for no apparent reason. Staff fixed the problem but seemed to suggest we had done something wrong. Not what I expect from such a nice hotel. Wifi access was not available in all rooms which made working there difficult.
Review 111:Brilliant location, amazing views and lovely rooms. Breakfast as part of the executive room was delicious and evening cocktails very good. Pool also lovely.
Review 112:I was extremely disappointed this trip; the daily facilities like ensuring that the soap etc is topped up was not effectively done; housekeeping was not alert to this. We had an Executive room twin beds plus extra bed; on the first day there was insufficient tooth brushes; on the second day the bath gel was not topped up. We did not have a choice of soap versus shower gel; most hotels give both and the customer makes his choice. All other facilities were ok. The menu has not been changed over the last couple of yrs maybe you should review that.
Review 113:Service at the Executive lounge and use of the Executive lounge. That was superb. The location being next to shopping centre is the plus point.
Review 114:Traffic in the late afternoon and evening was bad in the area.
Review 115:Accessibility to two shopping malls and food outlets less than 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Size of the rooms were very comfortable and the reception area ambiance was good.
Review 116:G spot bar needs improving - and made more customer friendly. A bit too much like a trashy nightclub
Review 117:Service, facilities, location- great gym and nice pool
Review 118:I was wrongly advised that breakfast was complimentary with the 2 rooms I booked but was billed over $260++. When I told the staff that breakfast was included when I asked, they didn't reverse the charges and a never got an answer back from the management. Breakfast was lousy and not worth the amount paid.
Review 119:Generally, staff were polite and courteous but never resolved the billing on my disputed breakfast bill.
Review 120:The building itself, the deco / interior- lobby - it's not "hip" as I understand G hotel to be. Maybe I'm comparing to G Hotel/Tower KL- more current, fresher look
Review 121:The mattress!! Best I've ever slept on
Review 122:room price is quite expensive. and the room is quite dusty. for carpet and drapery Should more often in vacuum.
Review 123:I like the facilities and given free minibar for guests.
Review 124:Air con in my room had some issues resulting in very cold temperatures throughout the stay Otherwise excellent hotel
Review 125:Very close proximity to shopping malls and restaurants. Very convenient and accessible. Staff were very friendly
Review 126:Thank you
Review 127:The price is to high.
Review 128:The bathroom is nice and clean. The Appelles soap which have rosemary flavor smells good.
Review 129:Very helpful and friendly staff. Especially Esther from reservation.
Review 130:Expensive
Review 131:Comfort and clean
Review 132:Hand towel only provided one piece. No mini towel.
Review 133:Convenience
Review 134:Super
Review 135:The wifi was slow suddenly and the staff couldn't render any help.
Review 136:Cleanliness of the room and it is smelly, with ants
Review 137:Gym
The Fine Print
With effect from June 1, 2014, the Municipal Council of Penang will be imposing a Local Government Fee of MYR 3 per room per night paid directly to the hotel.
