Reviews for Casa Marlene

Review 1:Nothing.

Review 2:The location is excellent. It is very clean and have a lovely courtyard with garden. The breakfast is very tasty. The owner is very friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay here again.

Review 3:Right in the center of Valladolid and a block from Cenote Zaci. Swimming pool and beautiful garden for cooling off. The breakfast was amazing! And unlimited. We had eggs with nopales, tamales with chaya, fresh chaya juice, and a flan for dessert.

Review 4:Since we were in the garden we had bugs in our room. Ants in bathroom and others in bedroom.

Review 5:It was gorgeous. Woke up to birds singing and excellent staff. Breakfast was amazing. Owners were lovely.

Review 6:A family-run hacienda, the luxurious rooms and gloriously-groomed grounds were highlights, but the best part was the friendly staff. The included breakfast was -- no exaggeration -- the best meal we had on the entire trip. Not to be missed.

Review 7:If one is driving and unfamiliar with Valladolid, it might be hard to find at night. Also, Valladolid is already starting to be discovered by tourists, losing that undiscovered gem feeling. The wifi was a little bit spotty but at least they had it in the rooms!

Review 8:Casa Marlene is a gracious converted family home with well-appointed, comfortable rooms (modernized but with a warm and historic feel) around a beautiful courtyard, managed with love, care, and superb customer service by the proprietor. We received excellent suggestions from staff for activities (including many we would not have found out about on our own), excellent restaurants. Valladolid is incredibly interesting and the house could not be more conveniently located. Plus: very convenient parking, and hummingbirds flitting around the courtyard! This would make a lovely base of operations for visiting nearby sites like Chichen Itza and Ek Balam.

Review 9:Location is perfect. Julio was amazing, soooo helpful and friendly - sat down with map to show us how to get places and had great recommendations and garden is gorgeous. We stayed just one night passing through so, didn't get to stay for breakfast due to leaving at 6am but the breakfast space was beautiful and Julio had asked if anyone had dietary restrictions the night before that he could tell the chef. Top notch personalized service A+ staff.

Review 10:Too bad we couldn't stay any longer...

Review 11:Breakfast was incredibly delicious (a three course meal!), the beautiful decor, nice room, good location close to city centre.

Review 12:Hotel lovely and charming. Vallalodid less so. good for one night stay in the town before heading to chichen itza ruins (45 mins drive) and x'kechen centote (beware of sellers on both sites).

Review 13:Lovely hotel - a hidden treasure amongst Valladolid. Staff friendly and hotel quaint. Breakfast delicious! Easy parking.

Review 14:EVERYTHING! From the moment we walked to the door to the moment we left, everything was wonderful. The rooms are beautiful, the garden is lush and very welcoming, breakfast was homemade incredibly and everyone there was so welcoming!! We are planning our next trip starting here instead of ending it here! :)

Review 15:Nothing. We loved it here.

Review 16:This hotel is wonderful. It's beautiful and the room was large and very comfortable. The staff are amazing and the breakfast was out of this world. Literally a gourmet, 3-course breakfast included in what was already a very reasonable price.

Review 17:Amazing quaint hotel right next to the main square with the nicest staff immaginable. They serve the most amazing breakfast that is multi course and sustained us until dinner! They even did not charge to wash my husbands clothes!! Beautiful peaceful setting.

Review 18:Beautiful fantastic hotel with great food and service, very friendly staff. Very central too! tropical luxury setting and gardens, a real oasis from the heat!

Review 19:The room was amazing! Huge, spacious and very tasteful decorated. We stayed in the quadruple room, 18ft ceilings, chandeliers, jacuzzi tub and authentic 19th century Spanish tile throughout made us feel like royalty. Attentive staff, a beautiful garden complete with pool & jacuzzi, and complementary 3 course breakfast each morning made the experience unforgettable. Wonderful small hotel, treat yourself if you're in Valladolid!

Review 20:The Wifi signal was weak inside our room, probably because of the thick concrete walls, we used wifi on the grounds just outside, not that big of deal though.

Review 21:Location, decor, friendliness of staff, grounds were awesome and very traditional to the region, clean, very nice place to stay for sure.

Review 22:wifi didn't work, sheets like sandpaper, jacuzzi tub shot foul smelling water out of jets,no place to sit in bedroom except on bed, tried not to serve me included breakfast with executive suite.

Review 23:Pretty grounds,pretty building,nice breakfast,good location,nice room.

Review 24:That we could not stay forever!

Review 25:The staff is amazing! Rosanelly and her mother really does a great job!! Remember to buy their Licor de Nance and Xtabentun!!! The breakfast is to die for!! And of course the rest of the town is right outside.

Review 26:We were staying in the honeymoon suite. The bed was rather hard (and I usually prefer hard mattresses, but this was a bit too hard), the furniture is a little old. There are mosquitoes in spite of the air conditioner, so the net above the bed is actually very useful. The breakfast is ok, but nothing exciting or especially tasty.

Review 27:The owner was very nice, showed all the attractions on a map and gave us some good recommendations for restaurants. The room is overall nice and has a colonial feel to it. The location is very central, yet quiet. Generally, there is not much to do in Valladolid, but this is a good place to stay for a night when travelling to Chichen-Itza.

Review 28:The breakfasts were amazing consisting of freshly made traditional Mexican dishes. Was a great location for key attractions like chichen itza, ik-il, cenote's samula and X'keken and ek balam etc. The rooms were comfortable and clean, there was working wifi and free secure parking. The place has only a few rooms surrounding a peaceful open air courtyard with a small pool. It felt like a home more than a hotel. Staff were welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable. The rooms are comfortable and clean with fridges and air conditioning. A really great place to stay.

Review 29:Fautless

Review 30:The staff were very friendly and took time to explain the facilities and the breakfast menu. The Casa is a converted property and retains much of its original charm. Secure off street parking and location relative to the central square was a bonus. The pool area was lovely as were the rest of the grounds.

Review 31:The property was beautifully presented and the staff were very helpful. However the best thing was the breakfast! We were only staying overnight, so that we could go to Chicken Itza and it was perfect for this. However you could easily stay a few days there.

Review 32:From the moment we arrived we felt very welcome although we were early for check-in. Simple but adequate rooms, with great showers! Loved the Yucatan sampler meal, which was cooked just for us. Far better than the meal we had in town on our second night. A real gem of a stay.

Review 33:The whole ambience & service was truly wonderful. The garden and pool area were simply delightful and a wonderful retreat after a hot day.The staff were gracious & went out of their way to help in any way possible .....even going out one morning to purchase bread so we could have 'English' style toast!!!!!!

Review 34:We stayed in Valladolid so we could get to Chichen Itza early, but Casa Marlene also proved a perfect spot to rest when my wife wasn't feeling well. The staff were really sweet, the room lovely and the small pool perfect to stay refreshed in the heat. We went to the cenotes at Dzitnup, too, which were fabulous.

Review 35:Room was huge, clean, and comfortable. Hotel grounds are beautiful. We were treated like family and given great recommendations for things to do in the area. No pushing for tours or tourist traps, just helpful tips. Truly memorable and delicious breakfast. Best hotel experience so far in Mexico and a great value.

Review 36:Our room was very spacious with great natural light. The grounds are beautiful. The pool is refreshing. The breakfast was amazing. The hotel is in walking distance of the main plaza and also the bus terminal.

Review 37:Everything was perfect!

Review 38:We loved the home-like feel of the property, small enough to feel really personal, with spacious rooms surrounding a beautiful garden and pool. A quiet, charming, spotlessly clean oasis in the heart of Valladolid. Rosanelly went out of her way to be helpful and generous, giving us directions and guidance to the town. Our room was grand and extra comfortable, with a very comfortable king sized bed and a double for our adult daughter. We loved the big tile tub in the bathroom and the skylight. This place is just wonderful; I highly recommend it. Breakfasts are lovingly prepared on site, generous and fresh and delicious. Don't miss out on this gem!

Review 39:Breakfast is very traditionally Mexican, sadly, I don't like Mexican traditional food and there's no alternative. Maybe a yogurt and some cornflakes. No big deal though.

Review 40:Everything

Review 41:Everything was perfect

Review 42:Everything was perfect, the person at the reception was always available, the room was so big, the breakfast (included) was enormous and so delicious... a little oasis in Valladolid.

Review 43:A beautiful hotel in a lovely colonial setting. The breakfast was to die for and the staff did everything to make sure we had a pleasant stay. I highly recommend it.

Review 44:Right off the square Peaceful courtyard garden with bird songs very attentive staff from owner to waiter to kitchen staff very clean, free bottle of wine, juices and water wonderful stone hot tub in the room! Breakfast delicious and filling free parking in the back with an attendant nice little pool side which we did not get a chance to use overall, peaceful place

Review 45:I suppose the hot tub outside could be warm

Review 46:The hotel is lovely, the staff were great. Everything was excellent Worth it to get the executive room as it has two floors and a jacuzzi bath!

Review 47:The WiFi actually does extend to the rooms, more or less, but for a reliable connection you'll want to be in the courtyard.

Review 48:Lovely room, a beautiful courtyard and exceptionally friendly and accommodating staff. Since there are only 5-6 rooms, it has an intimate feel. We ended up meeting and sharing notes with several of the other couples during our stay.

Review 49:Friendly staff, lovely garden and pool area, great hot breakfast topped off with a lovely crepe. Quiet enough to hear the birds sing in the morning. Off street parking was a plus on this trip but they are not terribly far from the bus station either.unless you have lots of bags.

Review 50:We loved our room and the attention was fantastic. All of the staff were very knowlegeable about the culture, and things to see. The breakfasts were Yucatan typical foods, really well prepared and so different.

Review 51:The wifi didn't reach our room. The room was very slightly damp (but this is pretty normal in this location!).

Review 52:Nice big room and huge bed. Lovely garden and pool. Great breakfast (the best we had on our whole trip). Excellent helpful family staff.

Review 53:Nothing

Review 54:The house, the garden, the swimming pool, the breakfast, all was perfect, the owners and all the team were very nice and gave us a lot of good advices for our trip. A wonderful stay ! Thank you!

Review 55:This family owned business became like family to us. They are very kind and caring people. The property is beautiful and is within a block of the main plaza. The property has been in the family for more than a 100 years and has lots of history. It is very well maintained and clean. The staff is very educated, a couple of the guys working there are naturalist that know all about the biology and Mayan heritage of the area. Even though this property is right in the main part of town it is quiet and peaceful. Breakfasts were a delight with delicious dishes with local tastes.

Review 56:This is a hidden paradise from all that surrounds it. The rooms are cute and comfortable and you cannot help but smile when you walk out of your room to the garden area complete with a pool. Breakfast is served outside and by the most helpful staff. The only downside was that we only spent one night.

Review 57:The showers have no water pressure. The room was a little dark.

Review 58:"El trato" The way we were treated. We felt as tho we were visiting family. The breakfast was out of this world. They truly tried to please.

Review 59:My husband and I greatly enjoyed our stay at Casa Marlene. Julio is a fantastic host and will make sure you have everything you need. The rooms are lovely, as are the grounds. Plus, the location is great - just off the main square. I highly recommend it!

Review 60:The staff was rude. They lost our reservation and made us wait outside in the heat. Afterwards they did not apologize. Because they were trying to avoid paying booking.com fees they made us pay in cash there (even though we had paid booking). They were unhelpful. The breakfast was bad (and cold). There was really nothing redeeming about the hotel.

Review 61:Lovely pool area and gardens, very attentive staff who did the extra mile. Quiet but central only 50 metres if that from square. Good parking for car. Nice breakfast with mix of options.

Review 62:The WI FI was spotty, did not work in the rooms. The mattresses were very hard.

Review 63:We just returned from a two week vacation in Mexico. Our last two nights were at Casa Marlene. We were happy with our room and with the staff. They are some of the friendliest people we ever met. Our room was very clean, and the a/c worked great and felt so good. Plenty of towels are supplied. The pool is clean and lovely. They take excellent care of the garden area and grounds. The two breakfasts we had were lovely and the cooks did such a good job! We had a bit of trouble with the wi-fi, it worked pretty good by the pool but not at all in our room. The mattress on the bed was quite hard, making a good sleep difficult for us, but some prefer this. They had a large parking lot for our rental car which was very close to our room. Most of the staff spoke little or no English so communication was a challenge, but they tried hard. They offer to bring your drinks as you sit by the pool and truly want your stay to be good. The bill turned out to be a bit more than we thought it would, but the taxes and fee added quite a bit. It was still a good value. The town square is less than a block away, and this is a lovely place to spend time! I also recommend the hourly double decker bus tour around town. That was very fun. We did not have time to do all we had wanted to do in Valladolid, but Casa Marlene was a welcome nice room to come back to each day to rest. I feel most people would be very happy staying here. The room had a small frig with drinks and water, a coffee pot and a flat screen TV. The shower is large. Be sure and check out the decor and beautiful tile in the dining area and lobby.

Review 64:Nothing bad

Review 65:Amazing, estupendo, merveilleux. Best hosts ever. Clean, great location, great amenities ( pool, jaccuzzi, a/c, wifi), delicious breakfast and they really want to please. Private parking, the front of the place is deceiving cause the inside is beautiful. Highly recommended

Review 66:The staff treated us like royalty - they very friendly and answered any questions we had and gave us a map to direct us to attractions. Breakfast was very good. The pool area and rooms were very nice. Located close to the central plaza. Would recommend.

Review 67:Friendly staff, great breakfast, beautiful garden and pool area. Good base camp for exploring Chichen Itza, Ek Balaam and Rio Largartos.

Review 68:A little to pricey for what you get

Review 69:Nice and spacious room Mexican breakfast Beautiful garden

Review 91:we loved everything

Review 92:personal attention from the staff

Review 93:The room is huge, even include a jacuzzi in room. The garden is lovely and well maintained. Originally this is only a place to stay after visited Chichen Itza, but it came out a great night in Valladolid.

Review 94:Nothing at all.

Review 95:Amazing family-run small hotel with a home-from-home feel. Incredibly friendly and attentive staff. Beautiful gardens with nice pool for cooling off. Location was absolutely ideal - on a quiet street but less than 100m to Valladolid's main square. Breakfasts were very high quality and sizeable!

Review 96:Such a friendly and welcoming place. The staff were so lovely, the breakfast was delicious, probably the best I have eaten during my whole stay in Mexico! The little gardens with a place to cool down in the water, we just loved it!

Review 97:There was absolutely nothing that I didn't like.

Review 98:I liked the colonial house itself and the modernizations and amenities. The staff was wonderful; the food delicious; the pool just big enough to actually swim; the decor and garden beautiful.

Review 99:We stayed in the honeymoon suite, and the decor was outdated; however it was clean and not without its charms.

Review 100:Charming, family-run establishment. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The breakfast was big and featured regional (Mayan) cuisine. Also the bottle of wine from Baja Sur California was a very nice touch.

Review 101:Wifi did not work in our room, although it did in the nearby public area.

Review 102:Above all, the exceptionally gracious and accommodating staff. Other plusses: a perfect location just off the Zócalo, nice attention to Spanish Colonial details,an excellent breakfast that came with the room (unbeknownst to us—a nice surprise), and free convenient parking. There was a refreshing little pool in which to cool off (not long enough for laps) near the rooms, and the property was blissfully quiet.

Review 103:No wifi in rooms

Review 104:Very sweet, nice and helpful staff. Always there with a smile on. They even made breakfast pack to us when we had to leave before breakfast time on our departure day. The garden is beautiful covered in flowers and trees and they also have a small pool for cooling you down on hot days.

Review 105:The bathroom was a little damp and the wifi didnt reach all the rooms (we were right at the bottom of the garden and had to go to the mainhouse to get it working )

Review 106:This place is traditional mexico! The breakfasts were amazing! We usedthis as base to explore Chichen Itza and some centotes. It was perfect! The owners were so hospitable. We had a great stay.
