Reviews for Tivoli Sintra

Review 1:We requested an upper room, but when we arrived. we were allocated one, a floor below reception. Still a good view, but would have been much better from the upper floors. The Hotel was almost empty, so we couldn't see the problem.

Review 2:The Central location. Handy for access to Lisbon and all the nearby attractions. As it was Christmas, the Town was magical when the lights went on, in the evenings. Hotel was very festive too Breakfast was excellent

Review 3:The bedroom we stayed in needs a make-over. Out dated and very 70`s. The tightly pulled sheets, blankets and pillows are uncomfortable for sleeping and not good enough for a 4 star hotel. The beds and mattresses were fine. The worse part of our stay was the pettiness of charging for the items in the mini fridge. We had 1 small packet of Oreo biscuits, 2 small chocolate bars, 2 fruit juices and 3 small bottles of water and were billed an extra 24.10 Euro`s!!!!!! Come on....all the stuff bought for a song at Makro....what a rip-off by a million Dollar consortium Hotel group! Next time we`ll find other accommodation in Sintra. Tivoli Sintra deserves 3 stars. This is our personal opinion. Tivoli Sintra did not tick the 4 star box for us. Thank you.

Review 4:The proximity of the hotel to the centre of Sintra old town.

Review 5:A convention of more than 100 persons was in the hotel at the same time. This meant that we were unable to get what I would call appropriate attention, including breakfast. Parking is a nightmare

Review 6:Location in the center of Sintra.

Review 7:I had just come from Tivoli Palacio de Seteais a 5 star palace so perhaps staying one night in the Tivoli Sintra was anti-climatic after my experience there! Dated decor - early 80's-like. Waiting staff at breakfast attentive but otherwise check in staff disinterested. They couldn't assist us booking a mini cab for 5 (even though we had seen people carriers by the station)

Review 8:Very central yet quiet. Extensive buffet breakfast options for 10E extra if not included in your booking. Waiting staff at breakfast attentive Large rooms. Brilliant value for money for Sintra.

Review 9:No smoking room that had obvioulsy been used by smokers. Cigarette butts in the flower box on the balcony! Buffet breakfast very dissapointing

Review 10:Location was terrific.

Review 11:Sintra is run very much as a tourist trap with inflated prices. On the surface it's very "tired".

Review 12:Sintra is very interesting, despite being "tired". You have to allow 1 day per palace.

Review 13:Nothing to do with the hotel, but out of season would be more comfortable, very touristic.

Review 14:Friendly staff, location great, lots to see within walking distance and parking on site was a bonus. We should have stayed longer, one night over is not long enough to see and do. Definitely will return. Hotel is open all year round.

Review 15:Our room had an old lingering smell of stale smoke. We waited over 20 minutes on our first night to be served in the bar.

Review 16:The location was perfect and the staff were friendly and helpful

Review 17:whole place need updating, old carpet, furniture, uncomfortable bed, limited parking, narrow carpark, expensive breakfast.

Review 18:location, easier access by car

Review 19:None

Review 20:Great location in the centre of the sites and transport services. Hotel very comfortable. The parking in the hotel garage which is free can be a problem if you have a large vehicle.

Review 21:The location right in the heart of Sintra. The large size rooms and the balcony with a view of the valley. Also the staff were very helpful and friendly

Review 22:Disliked most everything, expect the staff who were mostly nice and helpful.

Review 23:Okay, we're the most honest people you'll meet, and we're very fair with our reviews. We would not return to this hotel, what a disappointment. We were moved from our original room due to a horrible sewer pungent odor at 3am, not fun - we both felt ill. The staff at night felt horrible over the situation. We moved from a room with a beautiful view to the view of a parking lot, but no smell. We were offered to return to the SAME room by the day staff if we wanted the view after deodorized, we chose not to. They didn't seem to think it was a big deal. Okay, we can get over that. But the facility itself does the least it needs to in every respect to function. The rooms are in need of updating, they just don't feel clean. The windows throughout the facility are dirty - sad when you have amazing views to look at. The furniture in the lobby is old, the cushions are very worn. Breakfast was an attempt to look good with hot food but sadly it was poor-- the most watery scrambled eggs I've ever experienced….and cold (were they real eggs?). People were requesting more hot food as things were not replaced (we were there during early hours of breakfast time, no excuse). You could have free wi-fi and a bottle of water in the rooms if you signed up for their free program. But you constantly had to re-sign in again to wifi, and it was very slow. Also, the water was not replaced the following day. The only positive thing we can say, is the staff was mostly friendly and mostly helpful. However, we would NOT return to this hotel. Pick a boutique hotel so you can enjoy the experience of Sintra.

Review 24:the hot showers where wonderful. this hotel only one in town with private terraces. valley view of Pena palace was great and much more quiet. great breakfast buffet.

Review 25:1-grumpy staff at the reception except a young lady. They weren't aware of what is in the service book and when I needed something which was listed they simply sais we do not have it. 2- extremely noisy. One could have heard people taking a bath, talking or (... which was so disturbing). We were not able to sleep properly. 3- bad management. How hard is it to buy a pack of black teabag (was missing for 2days cuz they ran out of it) 4-i have sent them an email long time ago, no reply.

Review 26:Broken stuff was fixed immediately

Review 27:They told us that our booking did not show on their systems. We booked a valley view room (beautiful view) and a twin bed, and they tried to put us in a room with no view and double separate beds...Booking.com still showed they had 5 of those rooms left but they told us they had none left. It is only after a long and very tense debate they they proposed to "upgrade" us to our original room for a large price difference. When I was obliged higher my tone they finally gave us the room. They apologized the next day. As far as I understood from our conversation and the clerc keeping saying "it is only for one night, what is the problem", they did not want to give that room for only 1 night. Overall unprofessional staff and quite unpleasant experience. Hotel is well located, ok from the inside but the outside architecture is very ugly for such a beautiful place. Rooms are nice but the carpets are very old, dirty and smelly:((

Review 28:Location.

Review 29:this is hotel about 50 years old with the windoms from aluminium, the windows can be cleaner and all hotle need renovation.

Review 30:hotel in the center with view on the palace, the room clean, very good and big breakfast, air condition

Review 31:reception staff not so friendly, could not find my booking had booked a room for 2 people ,i must have hit 1 person with 1 room had to pay 20e per day extra .worst of all when we got to hotel no room ready they said 2pm then it was 4 then 5pm .

Review 32:housekeeping staff was fantastic friendly & helpful.food was very good , it was nice and quiet at night..

Review 33:Additional fee for WIFI, is a bit unacceptable for this price....

Review 34:The hotel was (almost) perfect: beautiful location in the heart of Sintra ,friendly staff, spacious luxury room as well as bathroom, breathtaking views from the window :) I'd been so impressed that decided to come back there after one night in Cascais . Highly recommended:)

Review 35:I would give to this hotel maximum tree stars - old place that needs to be upgraded with bad smell in the bathroom, no internet even in the business center, staff is unfriendly and helpless.

Review 36:The location is good

Review 37:Not very clean. Our room smelled of very bad odour coming from the bathroom drain, which we suspect it was because the room was not aired for a long time. We did make a complaint to the reception, unfortunately no other room was available. They did try to cover the smell by room spray which actually make it somewhat worse! They also made a mistake by charging someone else room service to our room - not nice.

Review 38:Great location for exploring Sintra, really beautiful setting. very "Retro"...

Review 39:wifi wasn't free in the rooms but only in the lobby. The double bed was made of two single beds attached to each other, I hate this.

Review 40:Perfect location and very spacious rooms, including the bathroom

Review 41:Not sure why WiFi was provided at a cost (pretty expensive too!) in the hotel when the majority of surrounding cafés, restaurants etc provided it for free! A bit awkward for planning etc. The gym desperately needs an overhaul!! The equipment is adequate... If only the majority of it wasn't broken/unsafe...the only thing working was the bike! The treadmill was dangerous...once turned on, it went straight to a flat out sprint and couldn't be adjusted! Seat on rowing machine was broken as was the cross-trainer.

Review 42:I'd definitely recommend a valley-view room...beautiful views from the balcony. Great location...right in the centre of Sintra. Breakfast was included with my room rate but was pretty cheap for those in our group that didn't include it. Great buffet selection of fresh fruit, cereals, cheeses/meats, breads and cooked breakfast...really couldn't fault it. Had dinner on one occasion in the restaurant... Very reasonably priced and would definitely recommend it. All the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Review 43:The hotel reception had a very rude man on the desk he allocated us a smoking room on arrival and insisted that there was no difference between the smoking and non smoking rooms. Eventually he agreed to move us but it took a long time to do so. The room smelt of damp and the whole hotel needs to be gutted and overhauled.

Review 44:The location and availability of parking.

Review 45:When we checked-in, the cleaning was not properly done, an empty bottlewas left in the middle of the room. During our 4 nights stay, the roomwas cleaned only once. No wifi in the reception area as it was writtenon booking.com, the staff refreshed the wifi but... Nothing. No electrickettle in the room. No electric plug in the bed area. When I left thehotel, it was necessary to ask the staff twice to open the garage. Thestaff told me that late check-out (maximum 4 P.M.) is 50% from the priceroom, when I tried to pay they asked me 75%.

Review 46:Central location. Nice view and spacious room.

Review 47:Internet only worked in the lobby and was a bit hit and miss

Review 48:A perfectly good hotel in a beautiful little town. This hotel is located up the hill in the 'old town' an easy walk to the train station and new viallage (without bags). Driving is crazy, this hotel has a car park but getting in and out around the tight corners takes a bit of time and effort

Review 49:Parking was very limited, but we were fortunate to get parking spaces. It could have been a problem.

Review 50:A very central hotel for the historic centre and attractions.

Review 51:Parking was dreadful. The hotel has two parking places: one at the front, which is always full, and one at the back of the hotel, which is practically inaccessible. On the way to the back parking there is a very sharp tern left, and when cars park at the right hand side of the road, it is impossible to take this turn, unless you drive a very very small car, and take it in parts. On the way out from the back parking you have to climb up into a street that is no wider than the car. The hotel is at the center of historical Sintra, and has two palaces at a walking distance (which is good), but because of its location, driving and parking in its vicinity is a nightmare. Once you manage to park the car and get in the hotel, you find yourself in a very good hotel. Having said all that, I doubt if you can find a place with better parking in Sintra.

Review 52:The rooms were very large and comfortable, and so were the beds. The design was old fashioned in the good sense, with soft colors that contributed to calm and pleasant atmosphere. The staff was helpful.

Review 53:Poor customer service, awful wifi, very dated and tired look and feel throughout the hotel. The only thing 4 star about this place is the the stars on the plaque, more like 2 or 3

Review 54:Location and size of rooms

Review 55:Hotel needs renovation. Didn't like that in order to get free wifi in the room one needs to sign up to their club.

Review 56:The staff were great, very helpful. The location it's just perfect. View from the balcony on Moorish Castle, beautiful.

Review 57:In general, the hotel is not bad, but arrogance and unfriendly staff at check-in/out, really did not like. If I have not heard a phrase in English, uttered under his breath, it does not mean that I need to talk about the existence of minibars. When you check-in on the contrary, it would be nice to explains how to open the garage from the inside, that they forgot to do. They refused to open the garage on Saturday, when - "it was fully booked". I was surprised when I found at least 3 free place there.

Review 58:Nice place and good view especially from the upper floors. Restaurant is good and not expensive.

Review 59:Had to pay for wifi but can get free sintra wifi all round Sintra tv old but has English channels so on holiday stop checking your messages and relax .Had breakfast not great

Review 60:Location, view ,staff , room even though bit it could do with a makeover got good deal to other places I looked at handy for castles etc to walk to wear comfy shoe's plenty cheaper good breakfast outside hotel

Review 61:For such an expensive hotel, Why do we have to pay for Wi Fi when other discount accommodation offer free Wi Fi?

Review 62:The location in Sintra Is very central.

Review 63:The hotel is ideally located to visit the many attractions of Sintra. The upper floors give fabulous views of the town. The restaurant is excellent, try the bitoque or the sirloin steak mm. A great place to stay

Review 64:We appreciated the Professional Assistance given to us and the Superb Valley views. Ideally Located in Historic Sintra. We Highly recommend The Tivoli Hotel to other Visitors.

Review 65:Breakfast (buffet) a bit basic, no decent fresh tea, although teabags available for lemon/earl grey etc. Free WiFi intermittent, only available in lobby.

Review 66:The view was outstanding, rooms decent size and well equipped. Staff

Review 67:Nothing really. Hotel must be about 30 years but don't let that put you off. Its more the classic 4 start hotel of old. Everything clean and tidy and in good order. It is a very professionally run hotel, good service with friendly helpful staff. The stay was enjoyable and hassle free..

Review 68:Amazing views from the rear rooms. Helpful, friendly and professional staff. Location very central but also very quiet as in old part of the town. Everything was clean and tidy and in good order. It is a very professionally run hotel, good service with friendly helpful staff. The stay was enjoyable and hassle free..

Review 69:- Air conditioning smelt of damp and was ineffective - Hotel could really do with modernisation, which is a pity as other Tivoli hotels are excellent - Hot breakfast items were warm or cold at best

Review 70:- Comfortable bed - Good sized, quiet room - Ample onsite parking

Review 71:Old furniture a bit shabby chic and the furniture smells badly in the room - better do not open drawers. With time you can get used to it. The towels in the bathroom also a bit used out but fresh.

Review 72:Very good location of the hotel, practically in the centre of old Sintra. Very professional staff and the reception desk. Nice and comfortable lounge area with free books to read. Underground hotel garage for free.

Review 73:Some of the dining room staff made us feel like we should not have come to eat. We hated to leave early, but my husband was having a heart attack. After we got home, he immediately went into the hospital for surgery.

Review 74:We liked the location near sites, transportation to the sites, lots of shopping nearby. The hotel itself was beautiful. Several of the staff were very helpful. Paolo, who transferred us to the airport went above and beyond to help us!

Review 75:The breakfast was good, but some trays were empty for a while before somebody got them refilled. We had a small disagreement during check-in, because our room was not yet ready even though we arrived after check-in time and the receptionist insisted for us to wait for 30 min instead of giving us a similar room that was already cleaned up and empty. In the end, he agreed to give us the other room.

Review 76:The location is excellent, right next to the Sintra Palace. The hotel has also an indoor garage which was very helpful for us. The room was nice, very spacious and had a very nice view of the city and the Mouros Castle. I'd stay there again.

Review 77:Nothing really, enjoyable experience.

Review 78:Hotel was very well decorated and comfortable. Sintra was a wonderful place to visit. Lots to see. You need at least 2 or 3 days to see it all.

Review 79:breakfast was a bit hit and miss but still value for money

Review 80:location was as good as it gets. the staff were the friendliest we have come across on our travels, the hotel was kept spotless in all communial areas, room was cleaned everyday, overall i can say with all sincerity that this is a hotel we will go back to again. the place is TOP CLASS

Review 81:I still don't understand why some hotels are still not offering free wifi.

Review 82:Enjoyed the stay - location, cleanliness and comfort of the room. The breakfast was great!

Review 83:Restaurants and cafés nearby extremely expensive with the exception of Piriquita and Piriquita II, which serve excellent light meals.

Review 84:Hotel is centrally situated opposite the National Palace making it easy to get around the town. Buffet breakfast with good choice of food and drinks. Plenty of castles/hoses/gardens within easy reach, either on foot or by very reasonably priced bus.

Review 85:Sintra is a confusing place and no hotels are signposted. Took us longer to fnd the hotel than it did to drive to Sintra from Lisbon airport!

Review 86:Large, comfortable, well-appointed room with a great view from the balcony. Free parking right in front of the hotel (quite competitive to get a space though). Right in the center of town.

Review 87:The reception staff didn't agree on how to obtain the "free wi-Fi" in the hotel.

Review 88:The balcony with the "Valley View" was exceptional. The breakfasts were superb (except for the tea!)

Review 89:This hotel is a little bit outdated, some areas needs renovation. TV did't work in our room.

Review 90:Ideal for visiting sintra famous places. Breakfast was ok.

Review 91:The hotel is located in the centre of Sintra, just behind the Palace, an excellent location for excursions in the city and its surroundings. A great plus is the garage for your car. Otherwise it would be more or less impossible to get rid of your car.

Review 92:Furnishings including room furniture are dated. But you must remember you are in a town dating back a thousand years!

Review 93:All rooms have balconies, some view the Castle, other the town. Perfect location in the oldest part of the village.

Review 94:I stayed in this hotel for two nights,,the location was perfect very close to the center yet quite with wide rooms overlooking breath taking views. Staff were incredibly helpful with smiley faces! yes,, good vibes matters! They helped me with my luggage and when I forgot my portable charger after checking out and leaving , Josef was kind enough to come to the train station to personally hand it to me! Thank you fro making my stay so enjoyable!

Review 95:A small niggle but for guests staying more than just one or two days and who have to eat in the Restaurant (as we did due to my wife's illness ) the menu is unchanging and for meat dishes offers only steak, and never an alternative such as chicken.

Review 96:My wife was unwell during our stay and the advice, help and co-operation we received from the Reception, Bar and Restaurant staff was absolutely first class. Our 'valley view' room was most comfortable and my wife was able to really rest whilst she was unable to go out. Thank you all

Review 97:The hotel team is experienced, professional, friendly and welcoming. The views from our room were amazing. The room and lobby were comfortable. The breakfast was exactly what we like to eat.

Review 98:My TV was outdated and faulty, the air conditioning in my room did not work. The use of blankets instead of duvets I feel is a bit outdated. Expensive wifi.

Review 99:The location is in the centre of town, the hotel has it's own garage. Clean and presentable. The staff were very smart and friendly.

Review 100:It all needs a refurb. Shabby rooms and common parts (although clean). Wifi needs daily renewal - and you have to join their club or you have to pay for it. Dead flower displays. Restaurant closed with no sign saying that evening meals are served in the snack bar - found out when we checked out.

Review 101:Central location Helpful staff Parking Not a bad breakfast

Review 102:parking. we had to circle the street a couple times before we could stop and ask where to park. Also, one of the desk folks was a little, uh, brusque.

Review 103:we loved the lobby bartender.

Review 104:Room carpet needs cleaning and that should be done every day. We got the soles of our feet and slippers dirty from walking on it. Looks like the vacuum cleaner we saw in the corridor is never used in the rooms! Parking a car nearby can be very difficult, and in the hotel garage is impossible.

Review 105:Bathroom has been renovated and is very clean. Bed linen is changed every day. Location is marvelous.

Review 106:As a seventy year old woman I disliked being watched by younger men as I struggled with my suitcase down steps to lift.

Review 107:Wonderful position in Sintra very close to Palace and Information centre where one can pay €1 for one hour of wifi. Very helpful staff at information centre and an efficient bus service just outside the door. Amazing drivers.

Review 108:In some aspects this Tivoli is showing its age, e.g. bathroom and shower fittings basic and cigarette burns on the wash basin surround which must have been there some time as the room is for "non smokers". Walls seem pretty thin and neighbouring guest noise and plumbing can be heard. TV in room old CRT type and signal interference on some channels.

Review 109:Great location right in the historic centre and opposite Sintra Palace. Large airy room with small balcony on the "Village View" side, which I guess is quieter than the Palace view side. Room nicely decorated as are the public areas. Free on site parking a bonus but space is limited, it's a tight sqeeze rouind the columns and it is first come first served. We just left the car there and used public transport. There are cheap hop-on-hop off buses covering all major attractions. Good buffet breakfast. Reception and restaurant staff pleasant, helpful and attentive. Free use of wifi and a computer with internet available on reception floor. Charge for wifi in room not unreasonable.

Review 110:The attitude of the waiter (or maybe head waiter) at breakfast on Monday 8 Sept

Review 111:The hotel was like going back to the 60's but everything was lovely and we had a great view from our room 608

Review 112:There isn't anything to dislike

Review 113:Everything was wonderful, lovely hotel to stay at in such a beautiful place.Fully recommended and will stay there again.I treated my parents to two nights here and they absolutely loved it,breakfast buffet was amazing with such variety and the staff were adorable. Can't wait to arrange another opportunity to stay here. Thank you everyone.Antonia

Review 114:An iron/ironing board would have been useful. Sintra could do with some live music in the evenings. There only seems to be a few restaurants open after the day-trippers leave.

Review 115:Views from the room. Good choice of TV channels. PC Available with colour printer. Helpful staff. Good choice of buffet--style breakfast. Location of hotel is fantastic. Sintra is very quiet in the evenings, but there are some nice restaurants near the hotel.

Review 116:In some places the carpet was old and dirty. Staff on the breakfast was too loud discussing some personal stuff like being not at work but sitting in the bar.

Review 117:Great view from a balcony to mountains and the castle that is flashed during the night. Very central location next to the Palace of Sintra. Solid breakfast with good variety. Interior is nice. Private parking which is really important for crowded Sintra if you are traveling by car. Allowed late checking out though the hotel was pretty booked

Review 118:Staff (pretentious and unpolite: one receptionist ordered me to remove one of those orange markers in order to park the car in front of the hotel while the other was banging on the pc's keyboard like he wanted to crush every key; poor level of English, as well); Room: small and old fashioned; Wifi: laughable;

Review 119:Location (right in the heart of town);

Review 120:Nothing to point out.

Review 121:Great location (right in the centre of town - avoid restaurants in the plaza as tourist traps!) and very quiet at least at valley-view rooms. Wonderful breakfast and great service. Desk staff also very attentive and helpful. Made for a restful stay.

Review 122:The room had a strange smell, but when we mentioned it within 2 min a housekeeper arrived with a pleasant spray. I think this room just hadn't been used in a while.

Review 123:We were on the top floor, fantastic balcony and view.

Review 124:wonderful interior and view, only that the wifi restriction is a little stinggy

Review 125:Very old facilities, quite different from the picture

Review 126:location nice breakfast

Review 127:Nothing

Review 128:Location, staff friendliness , price, faultless experience

Review 129:Old fashion and tired . Need an urgent renovation

Review 130:Views and location

Review 131:-

Review 132:Location & staff

Review 133:The location is superb. The staff are excellent, service extremely good.. The breakfasts and meals of a high standard

Review 134:The staff, all very nice people and extremely helpful. The views are exceptional. A lovely place to stay

Review 135:No free Internet in the room, breakfast a bit pricey, no coffee in the room, no cault

Review 136:Good location, good price, good staff

Review 137:Being asked for another 31 euros to book in an hour early(Which we declined)

Review 138:Excellent position in the town and quiet ambience.

Review 139:The carpet and balcony door handle really needs to be changed !

Review 140:Friendly staff, good location, quiet and secure place.
