Reviews for Casas de Campo do Pomar

Review 1:Santana is a good base for walking. The village is a bit spread out. The accommodation is about 15 min walk from the centre. The warm bread delivered to each apartment in the mornings for breakfast is a great selling point. The apartment was clean and had a well equipped kitchen. The very friendly owner kindly gave me a lift to and from the bus stop with my bags. There are some small supermarkets, shops and cafes in the centre of the village and a large supermarket on the outskirts.

Review 2:maybe warm sheets would make the night sleep a bit more cosy.

Review 3:Friendly people and very helpful. Quiet location. A/C with heater available for winter. On NYE they even gave us a free bottle of bubbly!

Review 4:Wifi in the rooms would be good, BUT maybe you need to switch off and chill out sometimes? If you really need this it's is available in the reception/garden area where you can sit in comfort :)

Review 5:Perfect location. Santana within walking distance - 20 mins, good excercise! The owner Estevão and his family were incredibly friendly. I've stayed in many places but this was simply outstanding in terms of how welcome I was made to feel. Nothing was too much trouble. You will really feel at home here. Estevão was happy to share his wealth of knowledge of the island and I sensed that he really wants his guests to have a great and relaxed time. I could write many words regarding how much I enjoyed my time here, but instead will just say "Book this place - it's a little piece of paradise". I will also say "Thank you Estevão, it was a pleasure to stay at your place!".

Review 6:This is a place where you feel welcome and cosy... nothing more to add. If you go to Madeira for walking or simply for enjoying the hospitality of the island, you should try this little hotel...

Review 7:None

Review 8:We stayed 3 nights at this lovely place. Every day, very tasty home made bread was brough to our room. The breakfasts were good and copious. They are already in our fridge. The apartment was very clean , welcoming and spacious. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful. They provided us good advices for the different walking paths and places to visit. It was a good place as it was very close from different trekking path (Caldeira Verde, Pico Ruivo, Ribeira Frio). In brief, it was a wonderful place to stay to visit the North of the island with a very nice staff. We parked on the street as the street was not a busy street so it was ok to park there.

Review 9:Lot of stairs, difficult for older people or people having problems with moving. Lack of sun in the autumn.

Review 10:The helpful and friendly staff. Good signs so you can find it easily. Clean and nice furnished. They washed the dishes during our stay!

Review 11:Intimate houses, with fresh bread for every breakfast. Location is excellent for the nearby levada tours. Staff is very kind and helpful. Lovely kittens were sneaking in during our breakfast, adorable start of the day.

Review 12:Bread brought for breakfast was not really fresh and wifi is only at reception.

Review 13:The owner was friendly, the reception was open till late in the evening and he organized a taxi for us for the following morning. Nice terrace behind the house to enjoy meals.

Review 16:- to take a shower you need to be quite quick (seems no longer than 5 minutes or so) otherwise there is a danger that the second person won't have enough hot water, at least this is what happened to us on the first day evening. - was quite humid and cold in the room (mid May) but sleeping at night with few blankets was just fine and no problem at all.

Review 17:- villa itself and a view from the patio, you just stand there and look at the mountains and forests and fields around and so next to you and all those smells.. a heaven! - breakfast - fresh bread, of course; and hand-made jam (cherry) was just delicious! - stuff, very kind and helpful. We didn't have a car so we were helped couple of times by the owner and his son to get us to and from the beginning of Levada walk.

Review 18:Welcoming friendly staff - Stefano was very helpful. Good breakfast provided in cabin, and two delicious loaves of freshly baked bread outside our door in the morning.

Review 19:A nice family running this place. They have a beautiful garden with seeview and cozy apartmans. It's little bit far from everything, but you can listen to the birds, and the hosts help to get every place.

Review 20:Sr Estevao (the proprietor) is the ultimate host for your holiday! He often went out of his way to make us feel comfortable! He would give regular updates and advice about the places we should visit, events/attractions, restaurants. We even got his lift to a couple of "levada walks", that would have been otherwise, quite hard to do. He makes THE BEST Home made PONCHA in Madeira, and you also have guaranteed, the best Santana bread, and Bolo de Noiva, another speciality of the region, hanging outside your door, first thing in the morning for your breakfast! Very nice breakfast included in your rate, available/replaced daily in your room for you to enjoy when you wish. Monica, the housekeeper, and Sofia, his daughter, also very Nice and making everything to improve our stay! They have organised champagne, chocolates, roses, chocolate mousse, and decorated our room for Valentines day. What an amazing surprise! We spent most of our honeymoon here, and we couldn't have felt more at home! Thank you Sr Estevao, Monica and Sofia! We have made the most of our holiday thanks to your hospitality. Muito, Muito Obrigada, e Ate breve! Fatima & Duncan Cole :)

Review 21:Unfortunately the weather was quite wet and the room was a bit in a dark corner which did not allow us to open the door to the terrasse.

Review 22:New added ventilation/ heating keeping room drier and more comfortable. Freshly painted room. Very helpful host and staff.

Review 23:We had our holiday at this beautiful hotel last week and it was our first trip to Madeira. The host is very friendly and helpful. The villa is comfortable with king size bed. Just 5 minutes by car from villa located big supermarket Continente. Aeroport is about 25 minutes by car (depend how to drive). Biggest levada is about 10 minutes by car. Special for breakfast there was very tasty and warm organic bread. We recommend Casas de Campo do Pomar for staying.

Review 24:if you don't have a rented car, things become a little bit more complicated during the weekends (buses...)

Review 25:very friendly host (delicious bread), nice houses, peaceful village and wonderful cable car (i loved the 'beach')

Review 26:- our room was not heated beforehand so it a bit chilly during our stay as floor is made of tiles (December) - breakfast is served to your room (which should be just fine in the summertime, when you can eat outside on the terrace)

Review 27:- friendly staff - fresh bread for the breakfast

Review 28:No/poor wifi signal in our house.

Review 29:The possibility of cooking one's own food is great to have. Cosy bed and relaxed interior. Very quiet surroundings. Fresh bread every morning proved to be a great start of the day.

Review 30:Minimal kitchen equipment but landlord will lend you with pleasure needed equipment. Relatively expensive for Madeira

Review 31:Extremely kind landlord. Excellent service. Very pleasant, comfortable and well equiped bangalows decorated with taste. Recommended

Review 32:In the.winter its cold and a bit musty. The finishings were very tired.

Review 33:The owner.was helpful and the.morning bread delivery was aahhhhmazing; I don't usually like bread byt scarfed down a loaf if cinnamon bread every day. Nice little balconies and a basic kitchenette. Excellent value for a 'hotel/holiday apt.

Review 34:We had a wonderful time at the Casa do Pomar! Our hosts have been particularly nice and welcoming. Their homemade bread for breakfast is amazing. A perfect place to stay on the northern side of the island.

Review 35:2nd visit in a year - says it all doesn't it? and I'll return next year!! A wonderful, wonderful place. Just go and you will see and will not be disappointed. It's the "real" Madeiran experience and I recommend it 100% Thank you Estavao, Teresa and Sophia

Review 36:The rooms are maybe a little wet and dark but it must depend on the season and does not interfere with this fantastic place.

Review 37:An host of extraordinary kindness with sound advice for hiking trails, car trips or restaurants.

Review 38:We were greated and treated more than friendly, got a ride to the supermarket, infos and tips without being pushed to do anything, and, of course, we had the most perfect breakfast! Facilities are basic and clean and the rooms include a great terrace where you can enjoy the great bread and marmelade and the view :)

Review 39:a little bit far away from the center of Santana by foot. No fresh fruit juice.

Review 40:Lovely staff, professional and very helpful. Very quiet place. Delicious home made bread, fresh fruits every day. Great starting point to explore Pico Ruivo, Arriero, Caldero do Inferno, etc...

Review 41:The light bulb in the lounge area flickered on and off

Review 42:The friendly owners, the fresh bread provided each morning. The easy drive to some of the best walks on the island. The local knowledge of Estevao about the walks. The spacious accommodation. Easy parking.

Review 43:The fridge is a little bit noisy in the room

Review 44:Excellent location if you want to go to Pico Ruivo, Pico Areiro and the levada network below. The staff is always there to help, very kind and their homemade bread is absolutly delicious.

Review 45:Nice fresh bread every day, very friendly owner, good kitchen and a convenient place to stay when going on hikes around the area.

Review 46:Bread in morning is amazing, very nice rooms.

Review 47:No wifi in the room

Review 48:hospitality, comfort of housing, breakfast,

Review 49:nothing

Review 50:Kitchen utensils a little poor. A bit dark inside the house.

Review 51:Fresh bread for breakfast.

Review 52:Walk to the nearest restaurant

Review 53:Staff knowledge and approachability

Review 54:we had no bad experiances

Review 55:The staff where so so helpful they help in so many ways to make sure we enjoyed our stay we will be returning in later years

Review 56:Warm welcome and friendly feel…..

Review 57:Attentive staff, warm bread for breakfast served directly to your door, relaxing garden.

Review 58:- Poor wifi - A little far from the center, need a car or can walk for 20 min

Review 59:- Great breakfast - Very comfortable room with a hammock; great view

Review 60:The owner is very kind, prepares delicious breakfast and does whatever he can to make his guests happy - we enjoyed our visit very much.

Review 61:Very nice little terrace garden in our apartment. Very accomodating and helpful staff, family atmosphere.

Review 62:The villas are situated in a beautiful park. They have their own garden, where you can relax and enjoy the view. The staff is very, very friendly and helpful.

Review 63:Wi fi only available in certain parts. 15 mins walk from centre (not a problem). Cabins can get cold and are not so well lit (we went in Spring)

Review 64:Very generous and tasty loaves of bread given for breakfast (one sweet, one savoury). Very nice staff including the person doing the cleaning and restocking. Stunning location.

Review 65:In line with the low price, the villa is very basic and does not offer much comfort: besides the beds only one small table and two chairs, no sofa or other surfaces were you can place your items, kitchen very rudimentary, thoroughly scratched teflon frying pan... The spare placement of a few low-energy light bulbs renders a rather spooky atmosphere, the room is quite dark and the bathroom even darker. The place smells mufty and is humid (likely unavoidable due to Santana's damp weather). Not the kind of place where you would want to spend time to relax - go out hiking instead, as long as weather allows!

Review 66:The hostess Teresa was very welcoming, friendly and helpful - she could advise us on the hiking trails. For the breakfast there is excellent bread freshly baked by Teresa herself.

Review 67:Friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful setting, well situated for hiking. Friendly host would drive you to trailhead. Very knowledgeable about hikes. It was great to cook our own meals for a change.

Review 68:limited hot water, that fact was not communicated upon arrival.

Review 69:Really nice and helpful staff Absolutely fantastic home-baked bread and bitter orange & cinnamom preserve - AMAZING!

Review 70:Lovely breakfast with amazing fresh bread. Really kind staff that helps you with everything, and warmly helps to introduce you to santana and its beautiful surroundings. Also cooks the best bacalhau in a natural stone owen! Highly recommended!

Review 71:The villa was very cold in general

Review 72:Esteváo and Teresa are very nice and are very devoted to the hotel. They guided us without us asking and did so happily. We got to eat wonderful dinner with them one night, and Teresa took us for a beautiful hike! Everyday we got freshly baked bread and we were treated like family. We got to live in a whole villa, with a terasse and amazing view of mountains and sea. Esteváo drove us to an amazing restaurant the last day. Actually they insisted on driving us everywhere we went. Very kind people.

Review 73:According to the information on the web WIFI should be accessible in all public areas. But the only possiblitiy we found was in front of the reception (outside in the cold on the terrace) and this was considered as part of the restaurant where we were not allowed to eat or drink our own stuff.

Review 74:I liked the quiet location, the availability of an electric kettle on the room and the freshly baked bread for breakfast.

Review 75:It was a little cold & dark inside, but with stove & radiator we managed to get a nice temperature at night.

Review 76:Great hospitality, a lot of space (we booked for two and got a house for three), a complete kitchen with everything we needed, the hot bread hanging on the door in de early morning, the hammock and our beautiful private balconygarden with great views of the valley and mountains. Good shopping in town, and in the morning the sounds of farmlife around. Even greater views of Campo do Pomar itself from the top of the Pico Ruivo. Standing high up there we could even see the flagpoles next to the casas with our binoculars. Great views of the mountains around and Santana en the sea.

Review 77:Cold and damp in the apartment. No stationary heaters, only movable heaters on request. We stayed in november though, it might be better in warmer, dryer climate.

Review 78:Generous host couple. Freshly baked bread in the morning. Good advices on walking trails, restaurants. Nice apartment / house.

Review 79:Accommodation on the cold side in mid-October although the supplied electric radiators did warm it after a time.

Review 80:Spacious accommodation with private outdoor space. Excellent fresh, warm bakery goods for breakfast. The outstanding friendliness and helpfulness of the owners Estevão and Teresa

Review 81:Nothing at all

Review 82:this is a gem waiting to be enjoyed on madeira. Steven and teresa are the most beautiful people. The place is relaxed, well laid out, very comfortable and fantastically priced. Nothing compares from what I saw. The fresh bread everyday is historically memorable and the efforts these beautiful people made for us on our last nights stay will always be in our happiest of memories. Thank you both steven and teresa. You would be welcome to visit us anytime here in Ireland, as friends, and be sure that we will return to see you in the (hopefully) not too distant future.

Review 83:Villas are great (huge bed, kitchen with all equipment and a hammock), territory is a beautyfull garden. Teresa (runs the place) is very kind and communicative. And they make outstanding bread for breakfast. Santana is a good location for hikers: Pico Ruivo and many most interesting levadas begin near by. Beach at Porto da Cruz (city near Santana) was my favourite (black sand, few visitors, good cafe nearby). Personaly think, that one would get much better experience of Madeira living in the beautifull north (e.g. Santana), than in the crowded resorts of the south.

Review 84:Really helpful owners. Delicious, freshly baked gluten-free bread every morning. A very rare treat for me as I'm wheat-intolerant. Relaxing accommodation, especially the hammock.

Review 85:Santana is on the 'wet' side of the Island. The vegetation is very green and therefore beautifull. In the morning and sometimes during the whole day, it was quite cloudy.

Review 86:Excellent and very helpfull service Large appartment with all necessary facilities Small setting (6-7 houses) Twice a week dinner with all guests Santana is a small and quiet town, but easy to reach by car

Review 87:weather usually is cloudy and u need to prepare some warm clothes

Review 88:It is nice, relaxing and quiet place. Better to have a car if you want to check other places.

Review 89:Best to go by hired car. Otherwise difficult to get there.

Review 90:The owners are a charming and caring couple, who are giving their beast to fullfill your needs. Daily breakfast included with warm traditional bread varieties. Relaxing and down to earth atmosphere.

Review 91:The fact that we were only there for four days!

Review 92:Everything about it is amazing. The bungalows, the views, the family run business could not have done more for you if they tried. The most relaxing place you could wish to be at, quiet, let literally two minutes from Santana and the Express Way. Would definitely use again.

Review 93:It was cold and wet in the room and radiator was not provided in the first night. The owners asked us about the direct time of check out due to early arrival of new guests. No internet connection in the room.

Review 94:Quiet place with a picturesque landscape. Hospitable owners.

Review 95:We chose the accommodation for the location and the fact that the owners went the extra mile to make the holiday experience that bit extra. We were not disappointed, the lifts to restaurants and levada walks were a unique addition, the meal served by the hostess was excellent, typical Madeiran food. The passion the hostess has for her business and to please her guests was amazing.

Review 96:This is a bed&breakfast kind of place. Rooms are spacious and have a small kitchen and utensils. Location is very good for the nearby levadas (Caldeirao Verde etc.). The hosts are very kind and will help you with every question you might have. Free welcome drinks and from time to time afterwards. Very generous and makes an overall good impression. The lady makes fresh bread for everyone every (!) morning and also occasionally cooks dinner. The latter is a great occasion to meet fellow travelers, whom you might also encounter later on elsewhere on the island. Highly recommend this place!

Review 97:I have nothing negative to say about Casas do Pomar. We were sad to leave!

Review 98:Casas de Campo do Pomar were amazing! The staff was very friendly and helpful, and always close by if needed. Each morning the owner leaves freshly-baked bread for breakfast, and for dinner there was occasionally a traditional Portugese meal prepared for a great price. The Casas do Pomar are 5 minutes walking from the center of the little village of Santana, and within 20 minutes by car to many of the greatest levada walks on the island!

Review 99:Teresa and her husband are excellent hosts and went out of their way to make our stay a success. Their son picked us up from the aiport and both Esteban and Teresa drove us to the levadas and picked us up at the end of the walks. Teresa cooked some lovely meals, we were upgraded to bigger chalet, the beds were comfortable, the chalet was spotlessly clean.... an excellent stay in a most friendly country.

Review 100:The owners are very friendly and the "resort" is reallybeautiful. Despite of the radiator the room was a bit cold. The NaturalPark of Queimadas is just a few minutes far from the "Casas".

Review 101:Our first impressions were how friendly our hosts were. This is afamily run establishment where they go out of their way to help you andmake sure your holiday is a good one. Your breakfast of homemade jam, yogurts, cheese, ham, milk, milkshakes are ready in your fridge onarrival and a huge bowl of fruit in your room. Fresh bread is deliveredto your door daily. The kitchenette is nice for a little cooking if youwant to but I would highly recommend evening meals skillfully preparedby Teresa and Estebao and eaten around a large table with the otherguests. A good time to swap stories and enjoy the company of the otherguests and the hosts. They have also arranged numerous discounts withlocal attractions so let them know where you are going as they may havevouchers. On our last day there all the mattresses were renewed givingus an even more comfortable nights sleep. If you are looking for avalue for money establishment with a personal family feel I wouldheartily recommend Orchard Cottages and thank Teresa and Estebao for alovely time.

Review 102:Somos una pareja joven y hemos ido a Casas do Pomar a pasar tres días.

Review 103:Very friendly family business, the whole family couldn't do enough for their guests. Excellent value, lovely traditional home-cooked evening meals available if required. Very spacious and comfortable accommodation. Fresh homemade bread for breakfast every morning. Bar with pool table, darts and table football for fun evenings with other guests. Very quiet countryside location - perfect for relaxing, a hire car helps, but walking distance (hilly!) to shops/restaurants.

Review 104:Difficult to park the car (outside on the street on a hill) Bathroom a bit cold in winter (there was haeting in the room but not in the bathroom)

Review 105:Very friendly and helpful people. Beautiful garden. Good food in the evening and good breakfast Everything you need in the kitchenette. Nice to relax.

Review 106:Wonderful individual houses with all the necessary comfort. Excellentlocation in the north-east of the island. The owners make everythingpossible to make you feel at home. This is the place to stay if you planto visit Madeira and stay away of the crowds in a relaxed location whereyou can enjoy all the pleasures of the island. Thank you Estebao andTeresa making our stay a real pleasure. Absolutelly recommended!

Review 107:Very quiet place. Good base for hiking excursion. Excellent bread.

Review 108:Breakfast on the terrasse with yellow, the cat!

Review 109:THE WEATHER, DAMP!

Review 110:THE LOCATION

Review 111:Very beautiful place. They gave us a bigger house than the one we booked. The owners are very kind and helpful. Thanks for everything.

Review 112:Breakfast in the fridge and fresh bread at the door every morning

Review 113:The rain.

Review 114:Great with fresh bread in the morning. It was beautiful, quiet and relaxing.

Review 115:Theresa's friendliness and strong focus on helping her guests get the most out of their holidays. The daily supply of hot bread was also a treat.
