Reviews for Hotel Quinta Do Furao

Review 1:Taxi rides to do almost all the walks. Restaurant good but expensive for the area. Selected superior room. Not sure what you got above a standard room.

Review 2:Great onsite facilities and activities each day. Nice little touches such as water in foyer. Restaurant great standard although quite expensive for the area. Great breakfast - lovely fresh food and good touch of local produce section. Reception staff always helpful.

Review 3:Only issue was that hotel was full of only German groups. We did feel a little out of place. This being said, during activities we did with these other guests, although they were all German, the tours were done in English so that was very nice for us too.

Review 4:One of the most beautiful hotels on Madeira. A beautiful manor house facing the water on top of a hill outside of Santana. Isolated (which I like). Great staff and everything went very well. Hotel concierge who arranged activities for the guests, and the room was wonderful with a great water view.

Review 5:Some element in the architecture and the low level of maintenance of grape lines.....

Review 6:The view, the personnel, the flexibility in managing facilities like the pool

Review 7:I had an undercooked steak and my wife got a tummy bug after our first meal in the restaurant (possibly not related to their food) so we avoided it after the first night. Generally it gets excellent reviews.

Review 8:Splendidly situated with great views of Madeira's northeast coast on one side and mountains on the other. The staff really make an effort to welcome you and make your stay a good one.

Review 9:Beautiful building in and out in an enviable position in the countryside overlooking the sea. Warm, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Quality and choice at breakfast excellent and the evening meal in the restaurant perfect. We stayed at 4 different types of accommodation on Madeira this was the best by far, only 20/25 minutes drive to Funchal. We can't wait to return. Thank you.

Review 10:We a bit disappointed with the restaurant (it is different to where they serve breakfasts which were very good) - the views and atmosphere are absolutely wonderful, but the food is a overthought, we had much better (and cheaper) meals anywhere we went in Madeira - local hearty and super delicious, while in this restaurant - although overall a pleasant experience - we felt the food was just not good enough lacking taste and balance - though the chef obviously tried (in my opinion cold avocado soup does not need some fruity sauce on top, although it looks chefy and everything, it really clashed with the taste, I could not even finish the bowl and tried to remove as much as I could after trying), or fish does not really go well with a cabbage garnish) - just to give a few examples, and the bread is awful - while we could not have enough of the bread from the supermarket - it was supernice, so do not really understand the bread situation in the restaurant. So we only ate there three times when we had to (when we just came and did not know, on our night out without kids - needed to be close by, and for a special celebration after an active day out - did not feel like driving anywhere), shame really - we would much more prefer nice traditional dishes without the fancy bits - food in Madeira is amazing and really does not need any more thinking, any restaurant should be proud to serve simple traditional dishes - we were lucky to try them including on our last night we went to Casa de Chai or something like that in Feial, what an experience - really wish the hotel restautant offered that sort of food. Having said that - the atmosphere and the friendliness (and wine) not to mention the views are great. Oh and the kids menu is not good at all, one can get that sort of plate in any fast food chain (like burger and chips with not a vegetable in sight), at least a pasta dish would be a nice addition. Kids were disappointed too.

Review 11:Loved our stay in the hotel - super calm, gorgeous views, away from it all yet close to Funchal for a bit of action. We stayed in a cottage so had everything we needed, with a supermarket nearby - out meals on the terrace are memorable. THank you for everything, we could not have made a better choice, all the staff are super friendly and smiling and helpful, very happy.

Review 23:Excellent food lovely location, clean lovely villa, friendly helpful staff

Review 24:When we arrived the wifi didn't work. They said 10 minutes, but it took two hours to get it working again. It seemed to be a problem outside the hotel. After working again, the wifi was good. The room was a little small, but with balcony.

Review 25:Balcony with wonderful view, nice staff, good breakfast with the freshest and crispiest bread rolls in Madeira! And…pastel de nata! Staff in the restaurant was also very friendly.

Review 26:The only negative we could think of was that one billiard ball and the tips of the cues need replacing :)

Review 27:Beautiful ! The area inspires one to exertion and the hotel is an absolute haven of comfort and excellence. The furnishings both in our room and in the lounge are beautifully crafted and comfortable. Top marks. We ate in and used taxis.

Review 28:Staff were fine, which would be OK but, compared to other experiences in Madeira, they seemed to be indifferent to the guests. The Wi-Fi never worked in the room, even after this was brought to management's attention early in our stay. Some of the modern fixtures in the room were a bit rough. This included the control in the bath that activated the shower head. It could only be opened through application of brute force and using a pocket knife to pry it open. Moreover, it would have been nice to have a power outlet or two in the room which were available for connecting chargers for phones, tablets and other electronics.

Review 29:The siting of the hotel is spectacular. Plus, the hotel is relatively new with great fixtures, layout and design. Rooms were comfortable. Breakfast was terrific.

Review 30:Nothing. For what we paid, it meet all our expectations and more.

Review 31:The location overlooking the cliffs was stunning. The food in the restaurant was excellent, we ended up eating there every night. The staff in both the restaurant were very helpful and friendly and

Review 32:Nothing :)

Review 33:Very good hotel for non-beach holiday (hiking and so on). beautiful ocean-view. Exellent restaurant. Very good location for car-trip around the island.

Review 34:Soulless lounge/ bar area in hotel - such a waste of valuable space

Review 35:Commitment to local products and 'sense of place' making the most of its location.Great base for access to high mountain, levada and coastal walks. Restaurant terrace and sunset views. Santana itself is over-commercialised but this hotel provides a welcome antidote...

Review 36:Beautiful hotel on a beautiful spot. Fantastic views on the sea and the mountains. Spacious room with balcony and seaview. Friendly staff, nice restaurant and free wifi

Review 37:Car a must, but otherwise everything brilliant

Review 38:All facilities were of highest standard; Whole site (including external facilities) was superb Restaurant food excellent Staff always attentive Themed evening great fun

Review 39:Wi-Fi coverage could be better in rooms.

Review 40:Location is excellent, coastal views magnificent, from room (especially if you have a balcony) and restaurant.

Review 41:When strong wind, a touch of central eating would have beenwelcomed.Restaurant sometimes not as it should be.Not steady wifi.

Review 42:Location quite impressive,290meters above sea.Surroundingviews,cliffs.Perfect for a contemplative person.A Special place indeed.

Review 43:The staff couldn't have been more helpful and made of stay a guaranteed return. The views from our balcony were spectacular. The food in the restaurant was excellent, and once again the staff were most helpful.

Review 44:It's a bit isolated which made it very quiet but would also make it difficult to find anywhere else to eat in close proximity. This wasn't a problem for us as we only stayed 3 nights and ate in the restaurant every night but I'm not sure where you would go if you fancied something different.

Review 45:This is a lovely hotel in a splendid location on the cliffs of the N coast of Madeira, with wonderful views along the cliffs. It is set in nice grounds with a terrace and indoor swimming pool (with sliding roof to also make it an outdoor pool) which meant it was excellent for a winter break. The rooms are decorated and furnished to a very high standard with firm beds, duvets and soft pillows, a good bathroom and kettle and minibar. We slept well as it was so quiet! Everything is exceptionally clean and works well. We also had a balcony facing the morning sun. Self-service breakfasts are served in a sunny dining room and are excellent - lots of fresh fruit, yogurt, breads, eggs, bacon and a huge variety of teas. The restaurant is in a separate building and serves very good food in the evening - interesting mains with novel sauces and flavourings - with good service and a good wine list. You can also walk from the door along the coastal path which goes along the cliff and zigzags down to a bay to the west.
