Reviews for Hotel Meson del Marques
Review 1:The air conditioning unit was old, noisy and did not have a remote controller My room was on street side. That meant noise from the street was let in through the open bathroom window
Review 2:The location and restaurant The room was large and the beds confortable
Review 3:Incredibly loud at night, seems like the locals celebrate something every single night (on the main square, where the hotel is)
Review 4:The staff and the service is amazing, and the food is great! Really central location in valladoid, and chitchen itza is within an hour.
Review 5:Personnel with radios were loud in the apartment area above my rear window both nights.. Not sure what was going on there?
Review 6:Staff were professional and friendly. Property was outstanding and kept impeccably. Rooms and the maid service was excellent. Location is excellent near the town center. Value is very good. Rooms were very comfortable.
Review 7:We booked a superior room but it was in poor repair. Specifically the bath tub was badly cracked and stained. The bathtub valve leaked badly, the sink tap was badly clogged with calcium and caused the water to spray in different directions, including the wall and the user. The sheets and pillows were very poor quality and rough. The breakfast was poor quality even though there was an extra charge to the room rate to include it. In using Booking.com the rate was about 10% more than the posted rack rate at the Hotel, even though we were supposed to receive a 10% discount because our reservation was not cancelable. Our view out the window was a wall about a 1/2 meter away.
Review 8:Very good location
Review 9:At least $30+ cheaper on some rooms to book directly with hotel than to go via Booking.com. It's a very basic, quick overnight stop, no real 5* comfort, no lounges to sit in etc... Internet is incredibly weak in the rooms, no tea/ coffee facilities in the room... rooms are small and are quickly cramped with the luggage... no elevators in the section with larger rooms
Review 10:Location is very central in the heart of the town/ Zocalo... There is parking space on the property. The restaurant serves really good Mexican dishes... especially if ordering from the flambéd Specialities section of the menu...
Review 11:Noisy and old conditioner in the room. Breakfast are poor.
Review 12:Clean rooms. Perfect location - exactly on the central square. Nice interior in the room. Hotel is in the historic building - also very neat and clean. Very good and not expensive restaurant with Mexican cuisine on the first floor of the Hotel. Helpful staff. No noise from the street.
Review 13:Our room was looking over the courtyard parking area so was very noisy with loading of van's, car parking etc... the room smelt damp plus the shower in the bathroom leaked all over the floor every time we had a shower.. bath provided but no plug so couldn't have a bath.. also the towels were badly scagged.
Review 14:Amazing restaurant, great food and ambiance!
Review 15:This hotel is impeccable, nothing to complain about
Review 16:Excellent location in the center of Valadolid, clean modern facilities, very friendly and attentive staff, excellent breakfast included.
Review 17:Maybe the bathrooms are a little small, otherwise, nothing.
Review 18:The breakfast was really good, and the restaurant is amazing. The food was so good that on our way back from Merida we stopped there for dinner.
Review 19:We were overcharged for our room. We had reserved a superior room with balcony and asked for a quiet room, however when we checked in we were given a superior room over the restaurant courtyard that was very noisy. We changed rooms but the second room, though quieter, was not a superior. It was on the ground floor with very small windows, little natural light, no view and no balcony. The front desk staff would not reduce our rate to a standard room and insisted the second room was a superior. When I pointed out that booking.com said superior rooms have a balcony, they said it was an error on the booking website. I asked to speak to the manager but she was not available, I was told to come back in the morning at 9:30. I did, but the manager was "in a meeting". We checked out and left. Also see my TA review. Will never stay here again or recommend to anyone else.
Review 20:Good central location, clean, well maintained, secure parking.
Review 21:Very little hot water Too few electrical outlets Damp Cold with almost no blanket 'Auadjustable' heating
Review 22:restaurant had great food parking was excellent French balconies beautiful courtyards room and building aesthetic
Review 23:Some rooms (mine) on 4th floor with no elevator. Internet access on and off. Sparse breakfast.
Review 24:Best location in town. Beautiful old house, nice courtyard, popular patio restaurant.
Review 25:There is a variety of rooms in the hotel. Do not bother to book the standard if you are picky. The most inexpensive rooms with king size bed are also very small and modest in all ways. Trees in the court yard and the pool area are in bad condition and litter in way that he staff cannot keep up with and un fortunately the pool area and the roof terrace are a mess. There are also dirty dishes the corridors, for the room service does not seem to able keep up with cleaning well enough. Despite the circumstances the porters just hang around at evenings.
Review 26:The hotel is a mixture of historic buildings and later additions in colonial style, and the friendly and helpful staff does a good job keeping up the old traditional guesthouse spirit. The location in the heart of the city is excellent, and there is a beautiful view towards the cathedral from the roof terrace. The reception room has true Mexican spirit in a positive way. In the middle of the buildings there is a somewhat pleasant pool area with some sun chairs adjoining the bar. The restaurant is located in a portico of the old court yard centered by a fountain with a lovely soundscape.
Review 27:Beds in quadruple room rather small for four adults. Seemed like plastic sheet below top sheet also, not very comfortable. Breakfast very disappointing, stale bread, rancid butter, old tasting potatoes and watery omelette, dried out hotcakes.
Review 28:Very pretty, beautiful building and reception area. Excellent location in centre of town.
Review 29:Inapropriate breakfast to the price. If you want eggs with ham, you need to pay extra for ham. No tea, only cafe. Terrible for this kind of hotel. Welcome drink = watter, cola, ... rather not to advertise it as welcome drink.
Review 30:Great location with pool and garden.
Review 31:The water pressure was not good, the WiFi was not strong & it was usually intermittent; they need another repeater. Also, the toilet did not flush well.
Review 32:The location, the staff, the size of the room were all very good. The hotel is very pretty, nicely decorated. Secure, private paring was appreciated. Breakfast choices limited, but good - freshly made at time of order. Nice pool. Leopoldo was especially kind - met us at the door at 1 am when our arrival was unexpectedly delayed.
Review 33:Checking in was a bear! Long and waiting and no true, honest, or real answers about when.
Review 34:The location was great. Quiet, but in the center of the city. An oasis, but it could get awkward waking though the restaurant each time coming home.
Review 35:Nothing bad.
Review 36:Everything was fine, the hotel was clean and well furnished. The personnel very kind. Excellent the restaurant. Parking available for free
Review 37:5 star?!? Probably in another life! This hotel is falling apart. Some rooms (avoid # 114 in particular) are basically closets without windows. Extremely rude and unprofessional staff at the reception. Very basic facilities.
Review 38:Handy location in the centre of Valladolid.
Review 39:Breakfast was not good (where do you pay extra, if you wish to have a cheese on the omelette?) It was rather loud and certainly the walls are not sound-proof. Rooms need some refurnishment
Review 40:Location, rather good restaurant. Staff was friendly and helpful. Nice terrace on the top floor
Review 41:Normally we are not very critical of hotels but we had a really bad experience here: - Hotel is listed as five stars but really is no more than a mere 2 stars at most. - Beds are hard as stone. - Airconditioning is either freezing cold or way too hot. - Shower was cold. - Room was located on the parking lot behind maintenance trucks from the hotel. - Rooms do not have wifi even though they say they have. - Staff is not helpful at all. We asked for them to clean the room (room was not clean) or provide a different room. Response was that they could not provide a different room (even though plenty were available) and someone would be there within 5 minutes to clean our room. Took 3 hours for someone to come after multiple reminders. - Finally, got food poisoning from eating their food, and we are very cautious of foods. We informed the staff of this but received no response at all.
Review 42:They keep trying to give you rooms by the laundry, which are noisy and in a terrible location of the hotel. I experienced this twice. Look before you agree to a room. We ended up with a delightful room but only after complaining. The hotel was not full at all so why they do this is baffling. It makes them look awkward and it is in bad taste to do this to visitors. The restaurant is gorgeous but the menu is tired. We still love the hotel, but shouldn't like to continue to negotiate like this.
Review 43:This is an absolutely charming hotel in the heart of Valladolid. My favorite city in the Yucatan. Everything brings you a sense of order, safety and tranquility in the middle of a beautiful city
Review 44:The room had character but it was a bit dark. There wasn't good water pressure in the shower. No wash clothes.
Review 45:Nice little pool. Picturesque setting. On-site parking. Lovely restaurant, good food, reasonably priced. Rooftop terrace overlooking the main square. Polite, attentive staff.
Review 46:Sadly there seems to be a of noise in the area at night as the hotel is on the central square.
Review 47:There is a lovely old Mexican ambience to the whole complex which made our stay special.
Review 48:Every thing is alacart including drinking water
Review 49:location and facilities were great with a well run resturant and secure large property . There was excellent draft beer a rarity in the Yucatan
Review 50:Sporadic WIFI connection.
Review 51:I loved the comfortable bed and clean bath and room. The hotel has lots of charm. The pool is pleasant. A finer staff can't be found anywhere. They were truly helpful with transportation and questions about the city. Excellent breakfast!
Review 52:The bed was rather uncomfortable, you could feel the single springs. WiFi didn't work in the rooms.
Review 53:Really appreciated the attentive staff and the location right in the city centre.
Review 54:The restaurant staff were not very friendly. They did their job but that was it. The food was very good as it has always been.
Review 55:It was our third time to stay at this hotel and we will return again.
Review 56:great location and very friendly staff. We were in Mexico on honeymoon and only made a quick stop in Valladolid and we were enchanted by the warm welcome at the hotel.
Review 57:The room was not ready when we arrived (after 4 pm). It was not cleaned until we asked -- and we waited on two different days until 5 pm to ask. The shower took 5 to 10 minutes to produce hot water. The window and the shutter were attached so that either both were closed or both open -- no way to get outside light in the room, without the combined window and shutter being open.
Review 58:The location. The restaurant.
Review 59:Didn't realize a small colonial town would be so noisy - could hear car traffic most of the day & night.
Review 60:Beautiful property with a view - interesting mix of old and new in terms of decor.
Review 61:Check in staff was a bit curt, and evening waiter showed visible disappointment upon receipt of 15% tip - expecting more from the gringos??
Review 62:Central location, right on the town square, free parking and wifi, free breakfast, excellent restaurant right onsite. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Asked for and received quiet room on upper floor.
Review 63:This hotel markets itself as a 5*, but it is a 3* at most. We had a fewissues here.1. At check in we discovered that the rate that they would apply to convert Dollars into Pesos was extortionate (17.8, whereas everywhere else it was between 16-16.5). The receptionist was indifferent to our objections. 2. There was a lot of maintenance going on in the hotel when we were there. Outside our room, railings were being painted, and there was a very strong odour of paint. There was also noise everywhere and tree were being clipped preventing us from using some of the sun beds. 3. The first room (see below) was dingy but ok. The safe did not work. An engineer came after some time to fix it. 4. When I was in the bathroom, I saw a man climbing right outside our window (there were no curtains, or railings on the window). Obviously, I was not impressed. 5. When we went to discuss this with reception (presuming that they will tell us that they sometimes climb outside the windows to fix AC or something), receptionist's first reaction was "so you do not want to stay in the hotel?" (good management....). Then she proceed on telling us that it was probably someone from outside the hotel - NOT comforting. When I advised that it was a man in grey hotel maintenance uniform, she was not able to give us an explanation as to why he was there. She offered us a room on a higher floor on the same side and we ended up settling for a room on another side (this room was fine). Her attitude was absolutely appaulling. In summary - do not stay here. The hotel has no respect for hotel guests.
Review 64:The hotel is on the main square - lovely to come out and be in thecentre of it all. We had lunch there which was good. The pool areawas nice (but not much sun in the afternoon). The bell boy was verynice to us.
Review 65:Breakfast and dinner seemed westernized too much. Rather bland as I was hoping for some Mexican flavor.
Review 66:Charming hotel in the center of town, with an old Mexico feel about it. Beautiful courtyard.
Review 67:Shower not great; though that's possibly due to being on the top floor. Slatted bathroom door not very private either.
Review 68:Lovely pool and outdoor area. Great restaurant - highly recommend the guacamole! Great location right on the main square.
Review 69:wifi didn't work in several parts of building, breakfast scarce -toast and tea/coffee(needed to buy some fruit and yoghurt as it was not included)
Review 70:top location, restaurant with outstanding food, friendly personel, good room
Review 71:room with restaurant view: impossible to sleep because of restaurant noise until late night Room with street view: impossible to sleep because of light coming from bad window's fixtures and noise from the street Bad ac, either freeze or useless
Review 72:We stayed here twice and in both cases no rooms like the ones booked were available and we were upgraded twice Stylish rooms Nice restaurant and good food Nice position in the city center and 30 min by car from the ruins Fairly clean
Review 73:The rooms are both beautiful and functional. The a/c is excellent! The pool is perfect...and the restaurant is the best in Mexico. We traveled all over the Yucatan and Quintana Roo with our nieces and stayed most nights on the beach...including a luxury resort. At the end of the trip, they said this hotel was their favorite. That says it all! The staff is superb, the rooms are well-designed and cool, TV has many channels. The pool is lovely. But the restaurant is the star! What food, what waiters, what a gorgeous spot. We loved it all.
Review 74:Personnel in restaurant varies from awesome to very poor. Depends on theshoft I believe.
Review 75:In the close proximity from the Chapel (must see). Also very close toado. Delicious food in the hotel's restaurant. Very helpful personelin front desk. They can store your luggage without additional charge(day of check- in and check-out)
Review 76:Bad food: the breakfast was terrible with dry bread and mass consumption portions of overcooked food. Never eat the vegetarian lasagna at the restaurant, one of us got food poisened! And we needed to stay a extra day. The general manager was as shocked as we were, so he gave us a complementary night to recover from the illness and he investigated what went wrong in his restaurant.
Review 77:Nice location, the cleaning and bar staff were very friendly.
Review 78:- the staff: Fact: if you're not able to smile and be likable you shouldn't work in the tourism industry. That applies to most of the waiter in the restaurant of this 5* hotel. I expected something else.
Review 79:- the room: big and firm bed, nice bathroom with descent shower - the pool - the hotel in general and it's location
Review 80:Wi-fi connection sometimes really slow. One needs to pay extra for fruit salad at breakfast. Bathroom looks old.
Review 81:Very central location, right on the Zòcalo! 5 minutes walk from the ADO bus station. Perfect hub to go visit Chichèn Itzà and Ek Balam! We very much recommend the restaurant of the hotel, definitely one of the best in Valladolid! We had a nice stay of 2 nights!
Review 82:Everything was amazing. The staff was so congenial and helpful. The pool was amazing and cool when I needed it. The restaurant has the most delicious foods and delicious habanero.
Review 83:El horario de la alberca deberia ser mas extendido en la noche y las habitaciones deberian de tener persianas blackout ya que los pasillos estan muy iluminados por la noche
Review 84:Un hotel bien ubicado con gran servicio y alimentos de primera
Review 85:Hot in the restaurant, try to get a table under the fans. Note the hotel reception is on a different street than the main entrance.
Review 86:The location of the hotel and the restaurant are both excellent. Room was lovely, junior suite although the standard rooms are also nice. Stayed 2 nights.
Review 87:No wi-fi anywhere except restaurant. It's free, but everyone complained about it. Needed the wi-fi to look up area since no help at front desk. Also, the two tickets they give you to the ruins are worthless because they will not print the required reservation for you. I don't pack a printer when on vacation and they don't have a business center in the hotel. Staff was not helpful at all. This was our second time to stay at this hotel and we were disappointed with the changes within one year. Be sure to check your bill for extra charges. They corrected their mistake but only after I found the mistakes. Yes, several were found. Also, not bilingual. So learn Spanish or download an app and hope the wi-fi works, which it doesn't at this hotel.
Review 88:We like the location. The breakfast was very good.
Review 89:Wifi was spotty and dropped in and out. Bed was uncomfortable but bearable. Air conditioning in room worked fine but was really loud so had to turn it off to sleep. Had the do not disturb sign on my room and the cleaner still entered.
Review 90:Location is great, only 3 blocks from the ADO station and you can step straight out into the main square through the restaurant. Restaurant was good, staff friendly, room size good and bathroom was clean.
Review 91:Close to the bus terminal. Easy to get to Chichen Itza. Excellent restaurant, great breakfast included in the price. Hotel has very nice terraces and a pool.
Review 92:The rooms are very small and outdated. During the first night of stay it was quiet but during our second night of stay, a group of people were partying in the pool area and being extremely loud until almost 3AM! We called management but that doesn't help much.
Review 93:The location of this hotel is very good for Valladolid, right next to the central square. This town surely has very little to offer beyond the central square. The restaurant attached to the hotel is very nice, delicious and service is very good. The pool is very nice for a hot place.
Review 94:Does feel like a fairly big hotel. We had just come from staying in a eco lodge in the jungle and we were slightly bamboozled by the porters and maids and having to tip everyone and having rules about stuff. it feels like a hotel, if you want to get off the beaten track this is not the place to stay, but if you want the comfort of a hotel, this will suit you fine.
Review 95:Parking was good for a central location. The room was fine, clean, huge comfy bed. Nice pool area to relax in after a hard day of sight seeing. Really pretty, good value restaurant.
Review 96:Wifi in our room was poor (413), however by the pool was fine. Double beds are on the smaller side.
Review 97:Centre of town with free parking is awesome. Marco the parking attendant was a legend. The buildings were beautiful and the vibe at the restaurant was great. Would recommend others to stay here
Review 98:We had room without breakfast, meanwhile the walk in price of the hotel was 20 percent lower, with breakfast.. unpleasant experience.
Review 99:Great location, lovely restaurant, quiet room
Review 100:The wifi connection was poor ! The toilet didn't work well with staff not being able to rectify the problem during my stay . If you stay here make sure that you don't stay in the lower floor rooms . They are so noisy !
Review 101:Location is great ! The quality of the food in the restaurant is very good !! However , the wait staff are not so friendly and inconsistent service .
Review 102:No bad experiences.
Review 103:The hotel is directly across the street from Valladolid's central plaza. The restaurant is the best I've ever been to in Mexico, situated in a colonial mansion. The hotel rooms are behind the restaurant, far enough from the streets of the city to be quiet. The beds are comfy. They have a swimming pool. The staff are friendly and helpful. Being in the center of the city, you have access to shops, museums, the plaza, other restaurants. It was definitely the best experience from my most recent trip to Mexico, and top two of all the places I've stayed in Mexico since 1970, when I took my first extensive foray into Mexico.
Review 104:The rooms are a little outdated but it is old Mexico.
Review 105:The restaurant alone is worth going to. Excellent! The courtyard/pool area is lovely. Perfect location.
Review 106:Voices from the pool echo. Town is good for about a day.
Review 107:Great restaurant connected to hotel. Centrally located. Easy walking distance to Cenotes, churches, chocolate & tequila tastings. Check in was smooth. Great place to stay for the night while checking out the surrounding ruins and culture.
Review 108:Avoid the tiny rooms 201, 202, 301, 302 which are behind the elevator, no view, no room to move! In four months of travel in Mexico, room #202 at Meson de Marques was the worst room we encountered!
Review 109:The location, property & staff are excellent, but some rooms are little more than closets, #201, 202, 301, 302, and they are behind the elevator with NO view, no coffee, no space. We thought we were given #202 because we did book directly with the hotel, a room with no closet, small amour, little larger than the king size bed. We went to Rio Largortos for 2 days and return to find only room #402 was available in such a large property with a king bed, but it was substantial larger than 202 and there is an awesome large patio deck for all travelers which overlooks the main plaza. A real plus for all rooms on the forth floor, or other guests may want to see the view from the patio. Nice pool. A big plus in Valladolid is the Casa de Venados, a placial private home/museum just two blocks from the hotel open for private tours every day at 10AM with all admission funds going to charity. The 6 luxury suites, awesome pools & fountains & fabulous folk art collection make it quite an experience. Don't miss it. We loved Valladolid!
Review 110:Tiny room 202, slightly larger 402 but with a huge deck available to overlook the plaza.
Review 111:The hotel is in a great location, nice facilities, loved Valladolid! We had two stays of 2 days each, the first in room 202, barely larger than the king size bed, just a small amour, no closet, TINY, TINY, behind the elevator, no view. Room 201 next door was even smaller. Our second stay was room 402, and we were very upset with another tiny room, but it did have a full closet and bath plus a great deck on the fourth floor that overlooks the central plaza. We assumed that not booking through the hotel directly was why only tiny rooms were available, but another guest had reserved 5 superior rooms directly with the hotel some two months in advance, and these rooms were also not available?
Review 112:Had to wait too long at front desk to check in.
Review 113:Very pleasant and comfortable stay. Food and service was great. The Hotel Staff were very accommodating.
Review 114:- the restaurant is just average - sometimes very loud in the inner courtyard, we could first start to sleep after the people left to their rooms
Review 115:- the location is great, in the heart of Valladolid - friendly staff - free and safe parking
Review 116:Our "superior" room was rather ordinary. ( 3rd floor, overlooking pool)No fridge of any kind in room. Good big bathroom tho'. Still wouldn't stay anywhere else tho'.
Review 117:Loved the location, you can walk all over town from here. The restaurant was EXCELLENT. Food best we had in a 3 week tour. Beautiful courtyard dining area, great ambience.
Review 118:The staff was not helpful. We asked for the Chichen Itza night show and they sent us to the tourist information spot of the city (which told us that only hotels were providing those type of tickets to foreigners). We also tried to get an upgrade to enjoy the breakfast but we were told that it was not possible !!
Review 119:In the centre of Valladolid, just next to the plaza Francisco Canton with restaurants nearby.
Review 120:I undertand they are renovating many of the rooms. It needs to happen faster. Broken lamps, no hot water, but despite this a very pleasant stay.
Review 121:The hotel and restaurant were charming, full of history, in a central location, and the staff always said hola and made sure we were taken care of.
Review 122:Little to zero Mexican families or people. All one kind of foreign tourists some in huge groups of 50 or more. Many unfriendly looks from wealthy tourists by the pool.
Review 123:Location, staff and the building.
Review 124:No complaints. Everything was great!
Review 125:Spanish style hotel, felt we were in another era with modern facilities. Located across the street from central park.
Review 126:It was not possible to pay in USD by card and exchange rate charged by hotel was close to Euro value (close to 15). So rate we got was not what we booked on booking.com. Take USD in cash with You to get the booked rate.
Review 127:Hotel is with great atmosphere, nice inner garden, excellent restaurant, very well placed.
Review 128:Rooms are basic and tired. Sheets are thread bare.
Review 129:The location across from the zocalo is perfect. All meals in the restaurant were excellent. Parking good. Dining in the restaurant makes this place a great stay.
Review 130:The staff was very pleasant, but somewhat slow in the restaurant.
Review 131:The hotel was clean, convenient, and very charming. Our room was small, but more than adequate. The food was very good. the atmoshere in the restaurant was great.
Review 132:I think too many of the guests seem to come for a very short time, so the waitstaff treat one somewhat curtly. Not badly, but as though there's no point trying.
Review 133:Here we get a glimpse of the real Mexico, not too touristy, very impressive old building turned into a hotel.
Review 134:Breakfast was à la carte. The rooms are a bit outdated and need some renovations.
Review 135:The staff was very professional and made their best to accommodate us. The location, right on the main square. The hotel restaurant was nice too.
Review 136:WIFI is spotty in the rooms but fine around the pool. After a week in Mexico it was clear to me that this is the case at all hotels, so not really a big deal in retrospect.
Review 137:The location could not have been better. The staff was friendly and seemed to take a great deal of pride in doing a good job. The property is full of eclectic colonial touches that I absolutely loved. And the price is definitely right!
Review 138:They didn't have the king size room we ordered so got upgraded to a superior with two double beds. This was absolutely fine though as we could have moved the next day but we loved so decided against it.
Review 139:Set in the heart of valladolid you couldn't ask for a more central location! The highlight for us was the food! The restaurant attached to the hotel is rated as one of the best in the city and it lives up to its name! Rooms were big and roomy with a great view of the cathedral.
Review 140:Comfortable accommodations, quiet, affordable and lovely staff! One of the finest restaurants in Valladolid, excellent regional cuisine and great service.
Review 141:Center of the city, close to attractions; Save and interesting walking out of the hotel during evenings; Historic building lets you feel the history; Restaurant is excellent!
Review 142:Due to the third party (e.g. booking.com) booking, this generally fine hotel charged us a higher rate than the direct rate and provided the least desirable room in the facility. We received a high price and a undesirable room.
Review 143:Excellent restaurant, including setting.
