Reviews for Citycamp Tromsø

Review 1:the facilities are very basic and old and the price is a lot considering what is on offer! hostels in Oslo are newer and cleaner at the same price!

Review 2:the hostel is in a great location, the staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere Was great!

Review 3:The wifi went down on Christmas day, which was quite annoying as most of the guests (including myself) needed to speak to family / friends back home and didn't get the opportunity.

Review 4:Was great for cooking and socialising

Review 5:The Hostel is amazing, there are loads of friendly people and the staff are very attentive and helpful, always ready to answer any question we may have.

Review 6:Expensive compared with the things inside. And the toilet and shower room...

Review 7:The northern light trip! Guys are pretty nice and friendly, northern light trip was awesome and the price was reasonable.

Review 8:Check in time is a little short for winter maybe. Some of the bed lights could not be used.

Review 9:A good choice for travelers visit Tromsø. The price is comparatively not high and the location is close to city center. The staff there are nice and helpful. They also provide bother light tours.

Review 10:We had two days without wifi because it was broken so we couldn't check trip information and plan. Moreover it was noisy and some equipment didn't go well.

Review 11:Facilities were quite poor, just rearrange the house as a guest house. Everything is included but definitely so crowded. Please don't expect anything and you will feel much more better.

Review 12:Locals dont know where it is so check the location first if u cant use wifi outside. Too small bathroom and shower room

Review 13:Friendly staff and easy to get there as the city itself is small

Review 14:The stairs can be a bit much if you have a lot of luggage - though we were in a room at the very top, so we had to climb more stairs than most. Definitely worth it for the great room though.

Review 15:It was a private room on the top level that had a nice view and a little kitchen. The whole place was decorated really nicely with art, and the staff were very helpful. The location was great, just 5-10 min from the main city centre, Polar Museet and the Scandic Ishavshotel, which is a pick-up point for several tours as well as for the bus to and from the airport.

Review 16:I arrived at 13h left my suitcase and 17h my bed was not ready! No security cameras , no reception after 20h, the toilets are small, the smell in the kitchen is horrible and no space as well, dinner room is small to 5 or more people at the same time.... Etc

Review 17:Wifi, the Russian worker and blanket

Review 18:My room is ground floor close to the Camp door really annoying

Review 19:Host Robin is a great guy. Even we didn't catch a full view of northern light, but he really trying his best and be a good guide and driver . Brilliant

Review 20:Shower in the main house with fungus, they need to throw out the shower and place a new one, this is not so expensive and they probably earn a lot of money with the hostel so why isn't this done yet?? Also toiletseat doesn't fit toilet, not very hygienic. Just one shower and toilet for a lot of people. Expensive for what it is, but still one of the cheapest in Tromso

Review 21:Free tea and coffee in the kitchen, I met a lot of nice people there, easy location

Review 22:Not sure how often or thorough housekeeping is. Shower was funky. Overpriced, in my opinion. But so is everything else in Norway.

Review 23:Very close to city center, self-service laundry on-site, kitchen, perfect base for catching the Northern Lights (they even offer NL tours occasionally).

Review 24:It's very noisy, the rooms don't seem sound proofed so people in the shower make a lot of noise. I felt a bit awkward taking a shower in the morning because I worried that I would possibly wake others up.

Review 25:The staff were friendly, the location was great, they provided a very good value tour to see the Northern Lights.

Review 26:Too expensive for what it's offered. I understand that Norway is an expensive Country, but if you charge Euro 50 for a single room in a hostel, I expect at least to find a clean bed with no hair on it, no smelling sheet, a waste baket in the room, soap and shampoo in the shower.

Review 27:Good position.

Review 28:The most friendly staff ever. Robin is a great guy and everyone should go for the northern lights tour with him. The owner will be treat you like a friend and you can ask all the questions you have. It was a great experience. I'll definitely visit again.

Review 29:The hygiene in the accommodation was not so good, especially in the bathrooms and the toilets. In the bathroom there was a really nasty smell after someone showered as well. Also the first day we arrived in the rooms there were already hairs in the beds, probably just by chance but in combination with the other hygiene problems maybe not.

Review 30:The location of the hostel was really nice and central. Also the owners of the hostel were kind.

Review 31:I never met the hostel reception. It's not the point!

Review 32:Everything is automatic system. I arrived at night and everything, bed, towel were prepared. I had paid by card via the automatic card reader connected with tablet. Just followed instruction. The location is nice, workable from the Hurtigruren port.

Review 33:1)People come in from northern light safari in the middle of the night and makes a lot of noise. 2) The code to the door was suddenly changed one night, and I was never informed about this.

Review 34:near to city centre and low prices

Review 35:We just loved the place.

Review 36:We spent 4 nights with a friend at Citycamp. We had the best time we could have imagined. The staff were absolutely brilliant, helpful and kind. Just a few minutes walk from the town centre were all the pubs and restaurants are. All the guests who were there, were really nice and friendly. We will be back there 100%. Best regards Zsolti Nagy

Review 37:If you go Tromsø, remember chose City Camp! They provide cozy bed, nice kitchen, hot water and professional Northern Lights Hunting service in reasonable prices! Last but not least, the host is extremely kind ! My credit card is out of service suddenly, it was scary me...>< and I only have 50nok in my pocket, I can't even go back Oslo. He just borrow me some money to solve the problem, drove me to airport for free and let me leave! Can' you imagine that! thank you so much for the trust. I will definitely go back Tromsø someday! In city camp! You will feel like home in there!!

Review 38:It has only one bathroom and one shower for up to 17 beds.

Review 39:Great location, less than 5 minutes of walk away from the city center, with very helpful staff. The rooms were clean and very warm

Review 40:Hostel is split between two buildings so not as sociable as it could be

Review 41:The Hostels Northern Lights Tour - Cheapest in town (sometimes by half) but you still get the full experience including photos from the trip

Review 42:Hostel is split between two buildings - not as social as it could be!

Review 43:The people I met were all great and really friendly - I was here in November to see the Northern Lights and so was everybody else so we all had things in common. The Hostels Northern Lights Tour - cheaper than anywhere else (sometimes by half) but you still get the full experience including photos from the trip

Review 44:Just one toilet and one bathroom per house/

Review 45:Everything is automatic system under staff information via email. I did not meet any staff but everything is going well there. Kitchen, toilet, internet and location are perfect

Review 46:There was only one toilet for one house. This meant that the toilet got very dirty very quickly. There is also mould growing on the underside of the taps and along the shower cubicle. The toilet floor is generally also unclean. The kitchen really lacked space. The rooms were dusty.

Review 47:The hostel was located near the city center. Check in was a breeze, because it was all automated. Appreciated the 'no shoes policy' in the hostel.

Review 48:-Impossible to approach the hostel as the whole street is under constructions, in addition, the workers start to dig from 8 AM so cannot sleep from that time -Typical young hostel, hostel guests drink and talk loudly in the kitchen all night -Only one extremely dirty bathroom, you cannot flush the toilet, the whole hostel is smelly. -The stuff is not taking care of the guests, you have to do everything on your own, they are never there -The norther light tour is fake, they promised us to go, but the tour did not start!!!

Review 49:Nothing

Review 50:It's not so clean, the dog (an uncontrollable beast of 20cm lol) ate my shoe, you could get something better for a few more euros.

Review 51:Location. Owners are nice and you will definitely meet great people.

Review 52:Small, not very clean rooms, beds are not very comfortable. Expensive, but still one of the cheapest hostel in Tromso.

Review 53:Good location. Self check in possible at any time. Equipped kitchen available.

Review 54:You will meet amazing people from all over the world. The place is cozy. It's not luxury, but it far exceeds standards for what it cost. The staff is very welcoming and the bathrooms are clean.

Review 55:Road works in front of the entrance, but they will finish one day and it is not Citycamp's fault. Anyway, during the night they stop working and it is not noisy at all.

Review 56:Third time here, same friendly athmosphere. It is like being in a family. Robin and his staff are incredibly friendly. Willing to give hints and to help. I had a wonderful staying thanks also to the faboulous northern light that have been visible from 7 until 9 October. Robin organizes trips to more secluded areas where it is possible to see aurora much better. I'll definitively come back! Thanks Robin and thanks your staff! Ps Robin can speak Japanese and Chinese too, simply incredible!

Review 57:did not see the northern lights due to the bad weather. The toilet is not very clean always due to the not matched toilet seat...

Review 58:Robin and his girlfriend are lovely helpful and beautiful! The room with the mini private kitchen is great for me! I would like to recommend it to the travelers who like quiter.definitely I will come back next time.

Review 59:The house itself shows both wear and tear. There is only one wc and one shower for all guests to share. The common space, which is the kitchen, is small.

Review 60:I like the top-suite, room nr 7. It is very special with a kitchen in a twin bedroom, and with a nice view towards the church Ishavskatedralen in the far. Location in the end of pedestrian street Storgata is perfect.

Review 61:The position of keyboard door lock is different from what showed in the cartoon instruction. I looked for it on the wall for a while.

Review 62:Robin and the Japanese miss(Niko?) are very kind. The northern light tour is a fabulous experience. Beds are comfortable and nights are quiet, so I literally slept like a baby.

Review 63:That place was dirty. The bathroom is very small with a broken shower and it is the only one for more than 10 persons. Only one toilet also, for everybody. It is expensive for what is it !!!

Review 64:Thank you so much for a fun, cosy and affordable stay in central Tromsö. This is a small and cosy hostel with a good amount of private rooms at reasonable prices. Instead of one large common kitchen there are two small. The kitchen has everything you need to cook, and you have access to the laundry machine. It feels in a way like staying in a private home - exept it's cleaner than my own home. The biggest asset of this place is the staff and the guests. Manager Robin and his girlfriend are amazing hosts - and they both speak native level English and Japanese! The rest of the staff is also really, really friendly and they all speak either native level English or very good English. When I stayed there, I met some cool people to hang out with and we also went out. However, this is not one of these so-called "party hostels" where you won't get a chance to sleep. I slept really well. Because I hadn't booked in advance, I could only stay in a private room for one night, and then I had to move to a dorm bed. The private room (with shared toilet/shower) was really comfortable, the bed and matress seemed all new. It was the best value for money in accomodation, I have experienced in Norway. The dorm bed was normal hostel standard - exept the price was inclusive bed linen and the bed had been made for me already. It was a 4 bed mixed dorm with two bunk beds in approx 10 square meters. There are no lockers in the dorm, so if you're paranoid or have issues with sleeping in a mixed dorm, I can recommend booking a private room in advance :) The location is perfect, right on the main pedestrian street, where basically everything in Tromsö happens. It's a stone throw away from "Verdensteatret" - one of the oldest cinemas of the world, today an art house cinema, cafe and bar.

Review 65:'Blue' side needs a bit of work to improve the drainage in theshower and replace the bathroom carpet with vinyl...but I know the owner& his son are working hard on the place!

Review 66:Comfy and friendly (owner staff & guests) place to stay right by thecentre, with use of washing machine/drier included, and lovelylittle cat in the 'blue' side.

Review 67:- The staff wasn't around at the announced times, even they claimed to be. One lady could not get in her room for a couple of hours and could not reach no one. - Some staff people were pushing there selve an you. - You could hear everything through the paper walls. - The windows could not be darkened, quite annoying with the sun in the night. - The showers were horrible, the water would not run off, gave me fungus on the feet. - The Wifi connection is bad and does not exist everywhere in the two buildings.

Review 68:- Quite good situated at the end of the main road, near to the nature, the mountains, near restaurants and bars.

Review 69:Nice hostel with a good atmosphere. Unfortunately there's no oven in the kitchen, but otherwise the facilities are good. The reception hours are poor, but you don't need them for much and can check in at any

Review 70:Issue with my room, poor facilities, cramped backpackers (wanted to fit too many rooms but not enough bathrooms) Massive road work outside my window from 7am onwards ( should have been told about - or discount on price) Very little staff presence. Rubbish shower....

Review 71:Location and apology email from the staff about my room issue!

Review 72:Not very clean, room 4 extremely small if you were two people, one shower room and one toilet for the whole place, kitchen roll left as toilet roll. No disasters but just not great value for 500 NOK.

Review 73:Friendly people, good location, free laundry. Room 7 was great, room 4 not so much.

Review 74:Only one toilet and shower but it's not a big hostel so I never had to wait in line.

Review 75:Robin the owner is very nice and welcoming. The rooms are spacious and the common room is great for meeting people. Comfy bed too.

Review 76:As a 70 year old actve female, it was fine, but the stairs to the 2nd floor were a bit of a concern. Welcoming attitude of staff!

Review 77:Friendly staff, clean facility

Review 78:Very small space . Virtually there is not lobby , its mix of Kitchen & Lobby.

Review 79:Friendly staff. Feels like home. Close to Burger king & Scandic Hotel Bus stand (For Airport).

Review 80:Only 1 x bathroom for whole hostel. Not a problem when its not busy...

Review 81:Relaxed, friendly, cosy vibe. Like staying in someones house with a whole lot of flatmates! Very easy-going staff (Robin).

Review 82:The private rooms downstairs are next to the kitchen and dining/living room, which can get noisy in the morning if people wake up early (or earlier than you) to cook their breakfast. There is only one toilet and shower for all, so you might need to wait to use them if the hostel is full.

Review 83:Location is great, at the end of the main street, close to restaurants, shops, bus stop, supermarket, tourist info, etc. The rooms and communal areas are very clean, there is a communal kitchen with fridge if you want to save some money and cook your breakfast/dinner. The price is great, this is Tromo's only low-budget option even if you stay in a private room (shared bathroom).

Review 84:The bathroom was a bit old and small for the amount of people that had to share it, but it wouldn't stop me from staying there again

Review 85:One of the best hostels I stayed at in Norway. Robin was a great host and very helpful with his knowledge of the area. It was a great place to meet other travelers from around the world! I had a single room, which I thought was great and comfortable.

Review 86:Your room is very close to other rooms, there's only one communal bathroom/shower, only one of the stove plates in the stove works. Should improve the kitchen facilities and provision of toilet paper.

Review 87:Liked being able to see the northern lights/auroras right outside this hostel! Liked the free baked goods/free leftover food. Robin was a good host and helpful with Tromso/auroras info.

Review 88:Everyone at Citycamp was so friendly. Robin was a great host and made everyone feel at home, so that almost everyone in the hostel became friends. The location is absolutely phenomenal, and it's the only hostel or low-price accommodation in Tromsø. Absolutely beautiful place, too.

Review 89:The host is very friendly and helpful, the location is convenient. It is good value for money for those who don't want the hotel experience.

Review 90:If you want a high standard hotel, don't go there ^^

Review 91:Probably an old collective flat transformed into a hotel. Very cosy and warm. You will feel like at home! a tip: room 7 is the best (with private kitchen and view over the city) :)

Review 92:The beds are not attached to the wall, so going in the upper bed can be a little scary :-) A little curtain would be nice for lower beds, but honestly no real negative here.

Review 93:Great situation in the city, everything is close (center, supermarkets, places to visit). The owner is very nice and helpful, and the hostel is a great value for those who want to visit the area without ruining their wallet (norwegian prices are scary!).

Review 94:If there is a small simple kettle in the room, the place will be absolutely perfect.

Review 95:Excellent location in the city center and just few meters from bus stop. Strong and quick WiFi signal. Very friendly and helpful owner (Robyn) with "feels like home" attitude.

Review 96:Nil.

Review 97:The Host Robin was awesome guys, funny but nice. it felled like home rather than hotel. got a separate room with kitchen & fridge was surprise at first, definetly impressed me & the view was just awesome. thanks robin.

Review 98:It's hard to find a budget accommodation in Tromso, but this is the right place if you are looking for an good value backpacker place on main street in Tromso. It has a homy feeling and also the young owner is extremely friendly and goes out of his way to make things happening! I had an excellent experience and can only recommend it.

Review 99:wifi is all right, but fails from time to time. No big deal however.

Review 100:Felt like home right away. Staff was incredible. Location is perfect. Kitchen is great. Bed was very good. Atmosphere is awesome. Really great place and people! I would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in Tromsø at a reasonable price. Not the kind of person to write review, but this was so great I really had to!

Review 101:Don't expect miracles, this is a hostel-hotel with shared bathroom, which affects cleanliness. It was converted from an old (early 1800s) family house, so there's just 1 toilet and 1 bathroom for up to 6 guests. The place has a "DIY-feel", I didn't mind, some might. Staff can sometimes be hard to find (use the phone, Luke!).

Review 102:A bargain - 30% cheaper than the next cheapest in Tromsø. Therefore I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. Perhaps due to my longer stay (11 nights), I got a room with a separate kitchen (microwave, fridge, sink, etc - huge plus as eating out in Tromsø is the most expensive I've seen, and I've been to London, Paris, Tokyo, Moscow) and a nice view. Great location - at the end of downtown's main street, bus stops and discount supermarket within 100-150m. Friendly staff - some good advice on where to shop and easily approachable aurora shooting locations. Free wifi with decent speed.

Review 103:No WiFi. A bit noisy. Shower door broken and no lock on bathroom door. Bedroom a bit cold at times.

Review 104:Convenient location, interesting traditional building, good cooking facilities and equipment.

Review 105:Pillows were not really comfortable (not thick enough). The room was really cold (13°C) when I arrived, I would have appreciated the room to be a bit warmer when I entered the hotel.

Review 106:Warm welcome Reasonable prices. Furnished bedsheets, pillow and towel. Common kitchen Clean common bathroom and toilets (separated). Possibility to set the temperature of the room the way you like it. Possibility to apply for a northern light excursion for a reasonable price (785 nok in December) with a nice guide. Near a Rema 1000 and some attractions in the center.

Review 107:Heating system is not good So cold . .i think twin room is not warm.

Review 108:Good direction good service. simple and easy are good point of citycamp

Review 109:Very friendly staff. good atmosphere.Inhouse Aurora tours at very low cost.

Review 110:I never saw a member of the staff.

Review 111:Overall a decent place to stay.

Review 112:Facilities.

Review 113:Location and prize

Review 114:Bathroom experience

Review 115:Cheap cheap cheap

Review 116:Friendly staff Good location Warm room

Review 117:some places are not very clean

Review 118:close to city center. nice and affordable stay in tromso

Review 119:Reception hour is too short.

Review 120:The location is good. close to city centre.

Review 121:Shower definitly needs a renovation :)

Review 122:Toilet didn't flush most of the time. One bathroom and one shower shared for an entire hostel. Shower was dirty.

Review 123:Good location. Good price.

Review 124:The showers are too dirty, no way you can get it. The floor is full of dirt !!

Review 125:the location, in the city center

Review 126:Small and comfortable hostel in great location, with nice staff and perfect to make new friends!

Review 127:none.

Review 128:excellent staff, very helpful, welcoming, eager to please and include guests in organised events.

Review 129:Cheap northern light tour

Review 130:Only one toilet and one shower for 7 rooms....

Review 131:Only one toilet and one shower for 7 rooms.....
