Reviews for Sigiriya Village
Review 1:The room smelt of damp and there was a damp patch near the wardrobe where there was a water leak.
Review 2:Great location, beautiful surroundings, great staff, interesting and amazing trees and wildlife. beautiful ponds and waterfeatures.
Review 3:Car park must improve n not well organized
Review 4:The food is excellent n very tasty also a very beautiful location. Staff is very friendly and very active. Room facilities need to be improve.
Review 5:Poor room security- no deadlock or chain Inadequate lighting from reception back to room no wifi in room both evening meal and at breakfast hot items were barely luke warm main problem was that I asked to pay cash only to be told that booking .com had already taken the money from my reservation credit card and that this could not be reversed,
Review 6:the room was nice
Review 7:Better control of the swimming would have been great; there were many adults that wanted to swim lengths whilst badly behaved children from other holiday makers just wanted to 'bomb' them and be disruptive. In many occasions it looked like the pool attendant was about to step (much needed) but didn't.
Review 8:Malaka really made the trip for us. As the resident naturalist we spent two full days with us and was fantastic. Michael the hotel manager was also extremely helpful!
Review 9:It is quite common to see gecko on the wall here I can bear that, but there were quite a few ants under my pillows which was really disgusting. The dinner of the jumbo prawns wasn't fresh at all, tasted like dead .
Review 10:The location was great. Only takes few minutes to drive the Lion Rock. The enviorment of the hotel was awesome, trees and plants everywhere you can see, gooses and monkeys...
Review 11:We wanted to negotiate the price for a safari to Mineriya: we asked one person of the reception to organize it for us, according to the price we agreed on. Later on, we asked another person in the reception to modify some booking details of our safari. This person could not find our safari booking and we discovered that it was not organized in name of the hotel but of the person himself with his own personal contacts (not transparent at all on this point). It has been really problematic to modify the booking as this person went home! but it is a minor issue!
Review 12:The localization (10 minutes walk from Sigiriya rock) The pool The view The room The food The nice attention of the staff
Review 13:Everything Wonderful place, location great, immerse in the jungle and at the same time clean and comfortable. It was a dream. I absolutely suggest this paradise.
Review 14:Reception and restaurant staff needs full training. They are simply inefficient and incompetent. There are managers running around who do nothing. This place can reach very high rating if the staff quality is improved.
Review 15:Location, ambience and overall setting of the hotel. Room is spacious and nice bathroom.
Review 16:Tennis court is not available and has not been for a long time..... The buffet at the hotel is overrun and not recommended.
Review 17:Fantastic location, nice environment, friendly staff
Review 18:Wifi connecting poor. Buffet is overpaid. Better taken the a la carte. Better and cheaper. Was quiet, but sometimes a busload of Chinese. Then can crowded.
Review 19:Wonderfull hotel in great area. Large, clean room, good bed. Price / quality perfect. You get more than you pay
Review 20:Charming, friendly staff, beautiful gardens. wish we could have stayed longer. Our nightly artistic bed decorations delighted us and the staff made us feel very welcome.
Review 21:1) I stayed 3 nights. The first day a outsider( Not a guest) shouted in the lobby. The management should be care about that problem. ****Please make a quick action to that problem.*** 2) This was my third visit.First one was 1995. The quality/Variety of the buffet should be improved.
Review 22:Very calm and quiet Feel in the jungle Very friendly staff - A guy Ravindra (Bar) a nice guy and the receptionist ( Ayesha ) also very good. ** If you want to take a rest, please go Sigiriya village.....*
Review 23:Run down, staff that did not know a thing. A/C that dripped on our heads all night long and no one seemed to understand what we said, whether in Sinhalese or English. A huge smile, nod of the head and then nothing was done about it as everything else. Dinner menu limited, almost nothing for kids with different taste buds from other parts of the world. Nothing to do in the hotel after you've seen the monkeys, birds and butterflies and had a dip in the pool. Tennis court run to ruins..... pity when so much could be done to create some entertainment.
Review 24:I could walk to the Sigiriya Rock and be ready for the climb. Treated very well when they discovered I was Sri Lankan. Since there was nothing palatable on the dinner buffet for my son the Chef arranged some stir fry chicken for my son that he enjoyed.
Review 25:Be careful ! To know the real price you have to ad taxes we tought that the price was $82.4 and we paid more than $100 To many people you're no more in Sri Lanka but in a kind of Disney land
Review 26:Clean, good staff
Review 27:Did not represent good value for money in terms of what we paid and what we got. With extra bed (at additional cost) the room was much more cramped than expected and items such as dining space not useable. Activities were cancelled with not enough warning to organise alternatives.
Review 28:The staff were generally friendly. The grounds are pretty.
Review 29:The fact that the hotel advertised a special triple room which was nothing more than a double room with an extra bed out in. Meant we couldn't open the wardrobe
Review 30:The ambience of the beautifully landscaped gardens
Review 31:Nothing ! Everything was fine !
Review 32:I have stayed at other hotels in the Sigiriya region and Sigiriya is just that bit better. The ambience, the friendly and helpfull staff, the food, the rooms are all good. top marks in every department. Sitting in the garden near the pool, with that majestic Sigiriya Rock in the background, is a memory that will stay with me forever !!
Review 33:The food wasn't great. We both had the buffet, not sure if the a la carte would have been better. It felt like the chef was trying to be all things to all people and in the process didn't get any of it right. Service in the restaurant was also a bit slow, despite having a large number of wait staff.
Review 34:The setting is just beautiful - slightly tamed jungle, with the lovely main pavilion overlooking the pool and Sigiriya Rock. Perfect for sipping G&Ts. The proximity to the Rock is great (about a 10-15 minute walk or 200 Rs for a tuk tuk). The hotel begins breakfast at 6.30 am so it is possible to start your exploration of the ruins before the heat of the day. We had a warm welcome from the staff when we arrived and the front desk staff were very helpful throughout our stay. The room was large, cool and nicely appointed. We were celebrating my partner's birthday and wanted somewhere a bit special. This place ticked all the boxes.
Review 35:• *At night they don't serve food after 11 pm even to the room. •There conversion rate of usd to Sri Lanka Currency is very poor. • Thelighting while moving from the reception to the rooms zoon is very bad •The location in remote place and not easy to find (we have reach onlythrough the Navigation).
Review 36:• Good swimming pool • variety in the breakfast buffet • Quite place
Review 37:The rooms lay out and the service
Review 38:Verey good facility and good lay out of the rooms around a small lake surrounded by trees with the restaurant ,bar and the swimming pool in the middel , The staff are will trained and gives a good serves Good for kids , If you are in srilanka it is a good place to see and experience
Review 39:There are some safety dangers that need to be addressed. Uneven steps into each cottage compunded by awkward positioning and opening of doors into the cottages(caused injuries for two people). Poor lighting between reception and cottages at night.
Review 40:Beautifyl location Perfect location near Lion Rock; attractive setting and grounds; friendly staff; good food; buffet and a la carte menu
Review 41:The hotel grounds and wildlife were a lovely environment in which to stay. The accommodation was of an excellent standard as was the food served and cooked in the splendid dining area.A small problem with the air conditioning leaking late in the evening was attended to immediately by your staff. Your hotel was a highlight of the trip.
Review 42:Dirty pool Average food Staff is polite but not friendly, correct but not helpfull Shabby wifi connection Noise around the room from 7am onwards Strict rules, nothing in favour of guests
Review 43:Comfortable and clean Evening check to clean the room
Review 44:Nothing. For the money it represented excellent value.
Review 45:The atmosphere in the public areas was very welcoming. Wide food choice. Lovely pool area. Very good size bungalow style room which made for a lovely quiet stay. Great view of Sigiriya. Best hotel we stayed in Sri Lanka.
Review 46:One staff member was very unpleasant he may be the front desk manager nomanners talk to us as enemies
Review 47:Like the location and environment friendliness cold see more birdsfoods are good
Review 48:Rooms are a bit outdated but they are really large. There was no playground although the signs indicated that there should be one. I had a massage in the SPA, had been looking forward to it but it was a disappointment.
Review 49:Awesome buffet dinner, great selection and really yummy food. It was good to laze around the swimming pool. The atmosphere was very chilled and relaxed, good place to explore the local sights.
Review 50:Wi-fi connection can be improved at least in the hotel reception
Review 51:Hotel design and very good Spa. We suggest to enjoy a wonderfull ayuverdic massage, very relaxing and not so expensive! Beautiful environment and very good buffet.
Review 52:There was nothing I did not like.
Review 53:The hotel was on beautiful grounds. It felt almost like I was livingin a jungle especially when I discovered monkeys hanging out in treesnear my room.I ate at the buffets for all my meals. I was really happy with the variety and quality of the food. I was very happy the spices were not 'dumbed' down for tourists. I like my food spicy and the dishes labeled spicy left the satisfying tingle on my lips. I would definitely return to this hotel again.
Review 54:The swimming pool is very small and not having enough depth.
Review 55:The Environment which they are maintaining where nature friendly. The rooms are very neat and the Food which they serving was excellent. Highly recommending Sigriya Village.
Review 56:1.The lighting in outdoor areas need to be seriously augmented. Lighting should be placed under the trees in every area. Alsi floor/pathway lights and blinkers can be put . Also some highlighter flouroscent stickers need to be placed. Provide guests with torch. 2. The food needs to improve. The decor is food area and lighting and layout of food display too needs to be given a thought.3.the cottage iterior layouts are bad. Needs more thought .need comfortable chairs to sit in room.
Review 57:Great ambiance. Geat dining hall and music and staff.
Review 58:Nothing
Review 59:The food, staff, monkeys and ambience
Review 60:Lovely room, beautiful surroundings complete with monkeys. Fantastic buffet for dinner and breakfast. Lovely swimming pool.
Review 61:Wi Fi is still not good at this hotel
Review 62:Excellent hotel and restaurant.
Review 63:Everything! From the moment we stepped in we were greeted with juice and made to feel at home. Gorgeous. Room & fantastic staff.
Review 64:Location is wonderful and food is fabulous.
Review 65:Nature, service
Review 66:over priced
Review 67:Location
Review 68:bathrooms wifi only in reception and extremly slow when working
Review 69:location food
Review 70:Lovely grounds
Review 71:Large clean room with new bathroom. Excellent restaurant.
Review 72:Excellent ambience. Stayed for one night only but enjoyed the stay. Good food and resturant.
Review 73:The room smile and not clean and no designated smoking area in the main Resturent
Review 74:The out side settings and view fantastic
Review 75:I liked the hospitality of the staff. The food was excellent and the location was very good. You can view the Sigiriy mountain while having breakfast.
Review 76:the swimming pool. excelent views. very good located
Review 77:swinning pool small
Review 78:situation et confort ,calme
Review 79:tourist rip off defenetly bring local currency to pay for your rooms, as the MD and the hotel itself run illegal currency exchange, as u cant pay in US $ and if u pay with CC they have to convert it to Rupise, and thats where u end up paying 20% more, watch out, bad management, ripping people off on driving tours, anything they can
Review 80:room clean and nicely decorated
Review 81:the MD of the hotel runs criminal Rip off for tourist and taking 20 % advantage of official exchange rate, no billing provided, manual hand written reciept only, awful service
Review 82:room was nice and clean
Review 83:When asked for an area map, the reception person said none was available. When the same request was made from a Manager, a map was provided within a few minutes.
Review 84:Accommodation, Food, Location
Review 85:Buffet dinner was a disappointment while nowhere to eat outside hotel (that's probably due to low season), lady at "tourist bureau" was absolutely useless
Review 86:Just 30 min walk or 5-7 min tuk-tuk drive to Sigiriya Rock, friendly staff, nice and very green territory
Review 87:The hotel charged us extra for breakfast, though it was included in the room rate. Watch out that the taxes and extra fees are not included in the room rate (at the end it's not the value for money so much after all). Every single member of the staff is ACTIVELY waiting for a tip what was much more expressed than in any other of the places in Sri Lanka. Considering the over average room rate + extra fees (also 10% service charge) and taxes, this aspect deleted a fairly good impression of the hotel.
Review 88:The location was good, easily reachable for many spots. Little enjoyed the swimming pool, thought the water was very chlored, much more than in any other hotels where we have stayed.
Review 89:Wi-fi was not available in room. ( it was available only in reception area) Air conditoner in the room was noisy and not able to control temprature.
Review 90:Friendly staff, good dinner, beautiful pool and room. We could see SIgiriya rock from this hotel.
Review 91:The hotel was much more than I expected. Staff were nice. Buffet breakfast was perfect. Location was excellent. We spent 3 hours walking in the hotel. After seeing my photos of the hotel, my colleague said: it is not a hotel. it is a safari park.
Review 92:For the money charged I believe the luxury did not match the standards . Two single beds combined a double bed . The mattress seemed just about ok , something that you will get to sleep on even in a regular cheap place . Likewise for the bedsheet . Did Not have the luxury it promised in price . The room lacked a hairdryer , no kettle in the room , Room is smaller than expected . only two small water bottles as complimentary ,rest you have to buy .No locker provided in the room . Surprisingly all these things that lacked here were provided by the hotel in kandy which was much cheaper than what we paid for here . and thus the comparison . The surroundings and the view form the breakfast area / bar / pool are excellent . Its nice and green .
Review 93:The place is done up beautifully . The staff is polite and attentive , service was spot on .
Review 94:Making a lot of fuss because I was wearing a T-shirt for sun protection in the pool ("proper Swimming attire" required - some Indian ladies like to go into the water fully dressed, but what is wrong with a clean T-shirt?)
Review 95:Pleasant retreat from the noise and the heat in the town
Review 96:Our room was very basic but for what we paid it was clean and comfortable so I would not complain.
Review 97:We stayed in Sigirya Village for two nights and it was a great place to chill out and relax by the pool as well as being very close to Lion Rock. The pool area was lovely and tranquil. The restaurant setting was large and the buffet had amazing selection for both breakfast and dinner. I would stay here again.
Review 98:no mosquitos net in the bedroom .
Review 99:Nice hotel with large swimming pool , great buffet for diner and breakfast , personal attentive , clean large bedroom . quiet location surrounded by nature .
Review 100:the hotel was located within walking distance of the main attraction in the area, Sigiriya rock. We got a special deal through Booking.com which made this top end hotel affordable to us. We even had langur monkeys on the roof of our cabin!
Review 101:Quite isolated. The hotel is big enough to cater for several big groups at a time.
Review 102:Beautifully located in a vast garden With plenty of birds, squirrels, monkeys and even iguanas and snakes. A wonderful view of the Sigiryia Rock.
Review 103:Buffet was of poor quality and selection. Whole facility shows a lot ofdeferred maintenance. Staff was aloof and were not attentive to customerneeds or requests. Hotel did not read the reservation which requestedtwo beds and then tried to charge extra when they finally did providethe second bed. This property has tremendous potential, but managementneeds a lot of work on hospitality. Reminiscent of staying in Russia 20years ago.
Review 104:Location, but little else
Review 105:Bed linen/room furniture/bathroom is really old and not been refurbished for years and feels really old and run down. Need to re-decorate the rooms with new furniture/amenities this hotel has great potential.
Review 106:great location, beautiful gardens and close tot he rock
Review 107:They had not read the reservation and did not have two beds as requested. Then they tried to charge an extra $10. per night and an additional $40 because they said that you had undercharged on the reservation. The buffet(s) were mediocre and obviously calculated to be as low cost to the hotel as possible. Food was not of good quality and selection very limited.
Review 108:Location and physical facility.
Review 109:Lovely setting with a view of Sigiriya, and wildlife around: a little group of monkeys with babies, turtles in the pond at front of hotel. Attractive swimming pool too, which is very welcome after climbing Sigiriya rock in the heat.
Review 110:The hotel seems rather run-down compared to what I remember it as being 2 or 3 years ago. Sheets, curtains need replacement. Coffee/Tea & water heater are needed in the room. Bidet facilities needed.
Review 111:The location and concept are excellent.
Review 112:Buffet and breakfasts, close proximity to the rock fortress friendly staff . Great for nature lovers as snakes and monkeys are very friendly. No food outside your rooms and keep your bags sipped.
Review 113:I think if we had paid full price, rather than the deal on booking.com we would be disappointed. We asked the front desk to organise a car for us to take us on to our next destination. We paid more than than a quote we had been given on the street as the hotel assured it would be a reputable driver and a good car. However, the car had no A/C, no back seat seatbelts, and no handle to wind the window down. The hotel argued that this was a'good'car. Compared to other cars we used in SL, this was not plus it was more expensive. We should not have trusted the hotel.
Review 114:The room was well equipped. The surroundings were lovely. It is within 20min walk to Sigiriya Rock.
Review 115:Ants in the Bathroom. (But there was also a tiny frog eating them and keeping the numbers down!) Too many waiters standing around doing nothing, while clearly not enough staff in the kitchen. Service was slow.
Review 116:Very close to the rock. Lovely garden surrounds with Monkeys and Monitor Lizards roaming the grounds. Beautifully designed hotel. Pool has beautiful views of the rock. Good value buffets at night.
Review 117:The food was adequate in quantity but the buffet that they served for breakfast and diner was always cold. The food was tasty but cold curries and cold eggs are not really what you are paying for. It could be easily rectified. It wasn't just a one off as we were there for several days. Also the staff even though helpful were a little stiff and formal rather than friendly.
Review 118:The hotel was in very close proximity to the rock so you could walk to the rock to climb and to the museum, the rooms were spacious and very comfortable. Having the pool was excellent for just relaxing with some down time. We hired some bikes and road around the local country lanes. The staff were very efficient and helped to organise our onward journey.
Review 119:Two easilly fixed issues: 1) limited wine list out of season and 2) easier for tourists if the front desk staff speak English
Review 120:Great hotel. Beautifully designed with lovely rooms and a great outlook across the lake. Very friendly staff
Review 121:The buffet breakfast was ok but had a lot of flies on the exposed food. The room appeared to be quite nice on first glance, but was a bit tired and basic, and there is a large window without a curtain so you get a lot of light coming in at dawn (not an issue if waking up early to climb the rock as we did). As in most places in Sri Lanka, the wi-fi was very slow and unstable.
Review 122:Lovely setting - gardens and pool with Sigiriya Rock as a backdrop. Perfect location for an early climb up - only 5-10 mins drive away. We had a really nice candlelit dinner by the pool.
Review 123:Bathrooms need a makeover. Not so keen on the evening buffet.
Review 124:Loved the location and the grounds. Terrific staff, all very helpful. Chalets comfortable.
Review 125:Reception staff rude and argumentative. AC faulty. Rooms basic and dated - more suited to a backpacker. Food was barely edible - unscaled fish curry was awful. Taxes on food and beverages applied twice contrary to menu prices.
Review 126:Pool was good with pool side drink/food service.
Review 127:Staff were very friendly but not great at adding up bills. Had threephone calls after leaving about settling unpaid bills - because theyhadn't added up their numbers correctly. They were reasonable andwaited until we got back to the uk, just not something you want if youare travelling around Sri Lanka and trying to relax.
Review 128:A great location, very close to Sigiriya Rock. Luxurious rooms, goodchoice of food and vino, and lovely swimming pool for relaxing in theafternoon after climbing Sigiriya Rock in the morning.
Review 129:Booking.com didn't print that 3 adults were coming, and even though I had a print out for 2 rooms (one at $160 for a couple and one at $110 for a single), the hotel staff charged me extra. I tried to explain to the staff that this was an error as I clearly booked a 2 person and a 1 person room, at significantly different prices, they weren't willing to listen.
Review 130:The grounds are fantastic - lush greenery and lovely pool. Great place to unwind after a walk up Sigiriya. The location is also ideal - short walk down to sigiriya itself, or the restaurants on the main road. I will keep coming back to Sigiriya Village.
Review 131:I had some problems with nu toilet and therefor got an upgrade. No complaints.
Review 132:Deluxe room real treat. Friendly staff, great breakfast and dinner. Lobby is great to have an evening drink with live piano. Ayurveda centre is good, with a local touch and fairly priced.
Review 133:Room is a independent wood house. It's a surprise! Quiet place, beautiful garden. Breakfast and dinner buffe tastes good and have many choice.
