Reviews for La Aurora Hotel Colonial

Review 1:All the rooms Windows are internal so you couldn't open otherwise People can see you inside. Anyway there is air conditioning and fan. Not too much Hot water

Review 2:The hotel is in a good position.our room was confortable there were 3 double beds.

Review 3:I have no complaints!

Review 4:The hotel is absolutely gorgeous- colonial style building where the rooms wrap around a pool. Room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. Location is perfect- close to the bus station (awesome for day trips to Chichen Itza/Ek Balam), as well as close to the main square and a bunch of great restaurants. Staff are lovely and super helpful. Thanks so much for a lovely stay!!

Review 5:The staff was helpful. The location is really good, you can walk to most of the interesting sites in the city including the Zaci cenote which is very near.

Review 6:To the town square it's a few minute walk, there is a lovely roof terrace with pool and sunbathing chairs, staff is helpful (we got town map and recommendations for the best restaurants) and understands english

Review 7:Even though we were in a superior room upstairs, the room wouldn't get good breeze anyway, not having air conditioning and big window. Since it's mainly humid, it would be humid and hot inside.

Review 8:Breakfast was great (not included in the price of the room but very affordable. The hotel is cozy and clean, peaceful and very close to the main square of Valladolid.

Review 9:Very friendly and helpful staff. Immaculately clean swimming pool. The hotel itself was charming with lots of character. The location was very central.

Review 10:The hotel could have been a bit cleaner, the mirror was full of old, hardened tooth paste, for example.

Review 11:Both the location and the facilities were very nice. The staff did not really speak English, but that was not a problem for us. We got by with our broken Spanish.

Review 12:It is a nice colonial hotel. It has his charm, Spanish/Mexican. The small restaurant on the roof has a nice selection for breakfast. Internet was slower than expected. Plenty of parking and the cathedral (center) is just a few blocks away.

Review 13:In the heart of the nice village of Valladolid, you have this little Colonial jewel: a nice hotel renovated in Colonial style, with a central swimming-pool and beautiful stylish rooms; for a little extra-price we have booked the junior suite and it was big and comfortable. Breakfast is served on the roof (not included, good but slow service).

Review 14:Very nice room, facilities for the price. Some reviews complained about street noise. That wasn't an issue for us. Our room was on the second floor and left side as you're facing pool from check-in. I could imagine rooms on the other side might be noisy.

Review 15:Breakfast. They only have three tables, food is very bland and service is painfully slow.

Review 16:Great location, superb value for money. Very friendly and knowledgeable reception staff. Room are basic but huge and very clean. Nice pool.

Review 17:T-t-t noise to a rhythmic breathing type sound (water pipes?) for most the night made for difficult sleep as did sheets that are too small for the very substantial mattress on bed.

Review 18:Nice room and furnishing. Great location. Helpful staff.

Review 19:No hairdryer in the room, breakfast on the roof was nice but quite expensive and some "hidden parts" of the linen had some small stains. Nothing important anyway.

Review 20:The hotel and the rooms deserve a huge "wow!!" when you enter. The staff is very nice, responsive and ready to help or for any suggestions. The common areas and the swimming pool are wonderful! Also, it is nicely situated, 5' from the bus terminal and the central square.

Review 21:Unfortunately the junior suites have no real Windows. There were still the leftovers like condoms of the previous guests in the garbage can. The room itself was also not very clean unfortunately. The rooftop bar was never open.

Review 22:Minor detail: few tables in breakfast area, sometimes guests has to wait a few minutes.

Review 23:Pool was very refreshing after returning from Chichen Itza. Nicely dekorated room and good beds. Only 5 min. walk to the park.

Review 24:- parking lot is very small, I guess it can take 5-6 cars maximum. It was not a problem for us, but I imagine it can become an issue in high season. - lady at reception desk did not speak English,

Review 25:- good location, 2 blocks away from main plaza - free parking on spot, - big rooms - nice colonial-style building

Review 26:Cozy place near downtown. Well equiped, the pool in the middle look great (we did not use it). The bedroom was big and well equiped. Good breakfast (although it was not included in the rate we paid)

Review 27:No complains at all

Review 28:Great location close to main plaza and just a few blocks from bus station and collectivos to various places. Nice little pool too- perfect for a dip after ruins.

Review 29:Good location, not far from the main square Very clean Spacious rooms Hot shower! Helpful staff at the front desk Really liked this hotel - would stay here again

Review 30:There was no natural light in the rooms. The staff were quite rude. They charged us quite a bit more that the bookings.com amount and didn't seem at all apologetic about it. There was a spa on the roof but couldn't get the jets working and there was nobody around the ask. The place totally lacked any atmosphere and warmth.

Review 31:The rooms were a decent size and clean. The building had some character.

Review 32:Very nice and cosy hotel. There is a swimming pool and a jacuzzi on the main terrace with a good view (including the beautiful cathedral of the city, which is 5 minutes walking). You can easily reach also by short distance walking a very beautiful cenote. I would definetely recommend this hotel to whoever wants to visit Valladolid !

Review 33:Not easy to park (but it is nice to have access to parking in the city) Some noise because we were close to the swimming pool

Review 34:Location : inner city. Nice staff (good english speaker). Spacious bedroom. AC. Parking.

Review 35:No problems

Review 36:Great value for money, worked out about £28gbp per night. Beautifulhotel, tiles, powerful aircon, tv, spacious room, very clean. We lovedthe rooftop pool and area which we had to ourselves. I changed my planslast minute and I cancelled one night and was only charged 5%.

Review 37:They advertised breakfast at the restaurant upstairs, we went there and found an empty place, no sign of service at all. We had breakfast at a place near Valladolid's main square with a full buffet.

Review 38:Fair price, decent accommodations, the little swimming pool was a plus.

Review 39:all rooms face out onto pool area, can be noisy and people checking out of a morning talking loudly as they walk past your door.

Review 40:Location, cable TV with some English speaking channels

Review 41:However, the staff stayed up in the courtyard with their friends? Drinking and laughing until about 3am..... No matter how many pillow input over my ears I could not fall asleep.

Review 42:The pool and courtyard was beautiful. The location was so close to the square

Review 43:Apparently, I had made this reservation for 1 person only... The price I had was 81$ USD. There was no way for me to confirm that this was the case or not through the Booking confirmation I had. So, the hotel receptionist had to charge us extra for the second person. Understandable... But she didn't have to make me feel cheap about it by saying "that she had never seen a price so low for a 2 nights stay!". This was the most expensive place we stayed during our trip in Yucatan. But really not worth what we were charged for. No complementary bottle of water, no breakfast included, very badly isolated as we heard people playing in the pool all evening, there were stains on the sheets and the towels were too old... For 130$ USD!!! We could have stayed at the Meson del Marques, a much nicer Hotel with a great restaurant!!!

Review 44:I didn't like much about this place. It's charming at first view and it's well located, that's all!

Review 45:- breakfast basic - noisy room on the ground floor by the pool: guest sitting and drinking outside until 3 AM...

Review 46:- charming colonial small building with a center-court holding a nice little pool - comfortable beds and agreeable bathroom with great shower

Review 47:The breakfast (a la carte) could be better. Garbage in the parking area.

Review 48:The hotel has a very nice architecture. Good pool and nice roof terrace. Rooms are comfortable.

Review 49:Outside rooms are noisy - and the swimming pool in the courtyard attracted very, very noisy young swimmers screaming at each other throughout the siesta hour. A big black mark against an otherwise excellent hotel.

Review 50:Excellent location and value for money.

Review 51:nothing

Review 52:Lovely hotel in the heart of Valladolid. The hotel is located just few minutes away from the main square. The building is a beautiful casa colonial; it has a great pool and a lovely terrace. The rooms are spacious and very clean. Wi-Fi is available in all rooms. The staffs is great and very helpful, I would definitely go back. Great value for money.

Review 53:Chlorine in the pool was a bit too strong as my room was in front of it so I found it really disturbing. That's the only thing I didn't like about.

Review 54:The hotel has a swimming pool which was really awesome to be in after a hot sweaty strolling in town. Wifi had a great coverage. Staff are friendly and being so helpful as my room a/c remote control didn't seem to work and after calling the reception (male) he ran to fix it immediately.

Review 55:Another warning to new travellers. Make sure you pay the booking.com agreed price. There was another attempt to extract considerably more from us. Be prepared! I've made up a simple spreadsheet to show $US / equivalent peso price/ +19% tax . It has proved itself to have been time well spent on several occasions on this Mexican holiday.

Review 56:Nice Spanish colonial style hotel. Small central pool. Good bed.

Review 57:- wifi didn't work well in room but was perfect on the seats near reception - quite noisy in the courtyard area so earplugs recommended

Review 58:- location was great - staff very helpful - room comfortable, clean and what we needed - rooftop bar was very cool - was great value for money

Review 59:I believe they serve Nescafe for coffee, so you may want to get your caffeine fix elsewhere.

Review 60:The location two blocks from the plaza, pool, cleanliness and air conditioning (very necessary), are the best things about La Aurora.

Review 61:It is à bit far from the city center but not à problème with bike or motorbike

Review 62:Tita was really nice and well welcome us. The place is really cute and comfortable. The quality/price raté is great!

Review 63:A brilliant budget stay.If onto all budget hotels were like this. Extremely good value for money, the rooms are large and the beds very comfortable. The windows are tinted so you can't see inside from the pool. There's a swimming pool and two smaller pools or unheated spas on the roof terrace (which is still a little under construction) which is a lovley place to watch the sun go down. It's a ten minute walk to the ATO terminal and close to the centre of valladolid and alot of places to eat.

Review 64:Word of warning: don't interrupt the receptionist's daytime soap opera watching! She won't be pleased at all and appears to have a long memory.

Review 65:This hotel is in such a great location. Close to everything you need and would like to see. Pool is a plus for the heat. Lovely rooftop terrace bar too.

Review 66:Pleasant Colonial style hotel with small pool. Breakfast available on terrace. Good location a few blocks from the main plaza and from the Cenote Zaci.

Review 67:Perhaps a bit understaffed upstairs for breakfast and evening drinks (only 1 waiter dealing with all). Our booking hadn't been received- they accommodated us but in a room without aircon for first night, they did discount for this error. Tatty flooring on rooftop.

Review 68:Very attractive, good location, friendly staff.

Review 69:They charged me more than $60 instead of $44.01 (the price that my confirmation page had). They said that this was because we were two people (my girlfriend and I), and 44.01 is for the single room, and that we had to pay for a double room with two beds. Sadly, I had no other option than to pay, since we were tired and hungry to keep arguing with the staff. When we took a shower, we realized there were no towels. When I asked for a recommendation for a bar, the guy in the front desk only told me to go upstairs. I asked him for more options, because we wanted to go out, however he did not want to give us more recommendations. It's next to the main street which connects to the highway, so be aware that it's going to be noisy because of the night trailers that pass next to your window.

Review 70:At check out was unable to communicate in Spanish or English the room rate which I had agreed to and that we were leaving a day early. Paid entire amount in cash and didn't receive a receipt.

Review 71:Hotel was well kept and the pool was perfect

Review 72:NO ICE. We had to walk blocks to buy ice in 90 degree temp. and no way to keep it after we got back to the hotel so it was all melted in about 3 hours

Review 73:Rooftop Restaurant Pillow top mattress Very pretty bath rooms

Review 74:plastic mattress; unpleasant shower; the inside patio is also where guests have breakfast, so be prepared for a very early rise.

Review 75:great location just two blocks from the Zocalo; free parking

Review 76:Beautiful courtyard and swimming pool. Roof terrace with jacuzzis was fun and good views of the church at night. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Old world charm with modern features

Review 77:We've got double rooms with two 1,5 person size beds, so it was a little to small for 2 of us, but otherwise it was OK.

Review 78:Hotel is just 3 blocks from this small town center. 10 min. by walk. Personal is very helpfull, even if not everyone knows English. Rooms are big and comfortable. Try the lounge on the roof.

Review 79:La Aurora advertises on Booking.com as having rooms available for $39 CAD per night, but when you get there, they charge you $75. When I showed the staff our booking confirmation for the set amount, was met with a shrug of indifference.

Review 80:The room was clean, comfortable, and in a nice location. The pool and rooftop patio were a really nice touch too.

Review 81:Did not have a bad experience, but would appreciate free bottled water or at least a water cooler to refill our bottles. Softer beds would be nice. A coffee pot would be nice to have in the main lobby area for guests.

Review 82:Same as above with pool in main area and top deck with whirlpools and eating and sun deck areas. Staff was always friendly. Most guests we met were interesting and nice to talk with. Been here before and will come again.

Review 83:lots of street noise and also noise from hallways, no free breakfast, online price doesn't include 19% tax.

Review 84:very nice, big rooms, clean, pool, good wifi, central location - taxis and shared vans to Ek' Balam and Chichen Itza are very close

Review 85:Rooms extremely dark and not very private.

Review 86:Convenient location near main square. Free parking on site. Good wifi signal. Rooms generally clean. Inner-courtyard pool is cool (no sun reaches it) and well-maintained, plus roof terrace with 2 dip-pools, plenty of chairs, shades and loungers. Suitable for a 2-3 night stay.

Review 87:Bathroom and towels are a little old and worn down. Room is dark but cool which is important as it is very hot in Valladolid.

Review 88:We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. It is clean and we had a very quiet room on the first floor with windows going into the patio. Terrace is nice with the 2 jaccuzzis on the terrace. We also used the pool in the patio: very clean.

Review 89:The roof terrace facilities need to be improved.

Review 90:Liked the colonial style and ambience. The breakfast was good too. Car parking in site was good. Close to all local sites & amenities.

Review 91:Beds are worn out Towels were stained, not dirty but old/used looking towels, same with the sheets Old woman at reception in afternoon was unfriendly

Review 92:Good location Nice colonial building Nice roof terrace

Review 93:The room I had opened to the street was very, very noisy and resulted in a very lousy sleep.

Review 94:Pleasant courtyard, great location and a clean and comfortable room.

Review 95:The room we had booked was not available. Staff wanted to offer us a basic room for the price we paid for the superior room. We ended up staying at a different place.

Review 96:Our room was in the back corner and there was no WiFi signal in the room so we had to sit outside to use it. Also, half the hotel faces a major street and one night there was significant street noise all night making it difficult to sleep even with earplugs

Review 97:good, central location with a parking lot (limited spaces and I have no idea where one would park in Valladolid if it was full), charming interior

Review 98:The towel I had the first day was great and I wish they would have left that one. Next day the towel was very worn and threadbare in spots.

Review 99:The breakfast was good and inexpensive. Rooftop dining was great and the wait staff excellent. The room was fine and even though I was close to the desk area I did not find it too noisy.

Review 100:I liked the bed, however, be warned they are rock hard, but almost every hotel I stayed in was the same. The parking is free but tight and not many spaces. The breakfast has limited seating, but was good. I enjoyed that the staff did not speak or had limited English, however, many people do not like that. It was not an issue at all. These "negatives" are very minor and I would stay here again.

Review 101:The location was perfect. A few blocks from the main square, and easy access to the two main roads through town. Water was plenty hot, and the wifi had two routers, so if one was slow, simply switched to the other.

Review 102:Can't pay with credit card. Used 15 pesos, not street xchg. Of13.60 per dollar.. Added $8 to nighlty online rate.

Review 103:Close to central plaza and restaurants. Friendly and clean

Review 104:The hot tubs were not heated and some of the surrounding decking had rusty nails sticking out.

Review 105:We loved the colonnaded atrium with central pool and the peace and quiet after the busy streets. We were able to walk to the hotel with our luggage from the bus station, and it only took three minutes to walk to the centre where there are plenty of excellent restaurants and shops. We went to the plaza on Sunday evening to watch the dancing to a great live band. The hotel has a rooftop terrace with hot tubs and loungers where you can enjoy breakfast. Our room was enormous and the walk in shower had loads of hot water.

Review 106:I like harder beds, so I was fine. Husband would have liked softer.

Review 107:Stayed here last year. Great location, quiet room away from the street, close to ADO station, enjoyed the top floor deck and soaking pool.

Review 108:We loved the rooftop "hot" tubs and lounge areas but it seems they've been left in a bit of disrepair. With a little TLC, that area could be beyond gorgeous! As it is, the roof is a wonderful place to quietly watch the sunset and cool your feet.

Review 109:La Aurora is a gem of a colonial hotel located centrally in lovely Valladolid. It's in easy walking distance to everything you'd want to check out in town. Rooms are clean, spacious and comfy, and it's great to relax in the pool after a hot day -- though you could also cool off in the amazing Cenote Zaci, which is just a 15 minute walk away. Highly recommended!

Review 110:Nobody told me I would not be able to pay with my credit card, which made things very complicated for me. This place really has to get more professional. Noisy (echoing due to the colonial indoor layout)

Review 111:Cute terrace on the roof Good location

Review 112:-staff spoke spanish, hard for them to understand english and if you had questions they didn't really know what you were saying -showers were usually cool, the second person to shower would usually get a warm one - took a long time for the water to get warm

Review 113:-close to everything - good wifi beautiful building -lovely pool nice rooftop

Review 114:The streets surrounding the hotel are slightly loud, no big deal.

Review 115:Friendly staff, beautiful pool, clean rooms! Great location, close to town centre and easy to find. The restaurant on site had tasty offerings and was reasonably priced. You can buy water/ beer from the front desk. The little parking lot was convienient to park our rental. Valladolid is full of friendly people, very authentic place. Be sure to check out the rooftop!

Review 116:no hot water, wifi no good in rooms, dangerous tile around pool, staff told me hot water would be turned on but it was not.

Review 117:location, aesthetics of hotel.

Review 118:This hotel is truly a beauty. Only negatives are that pool was cold and room had no fridge. Towels are a bit worn out too. But the place is lovely only a block from main plaza. Lots of great places to eat and shop and a playground within a few minutes walk.

Review 119:We went to the balcony for breakfast but there weren't any spare tables and no staff around so we went elsewhere as we didn't want to hang around.

Review 120:Greet location. Easy to find. Lovely pool. Highly recommend this place

Review 121:Beds are decent but too soft for me... Know that I have a fragile sleep. Horrible Wi-fi, very unstable. Not a single word of english was spoken by the staff, be warned...

Review 122:The Colonial feeling of this Hotel is very soothing and quite charming. Easy parking location, affordable and tasty breakfast on the roof's terrace complete with jacuzzis... Noiseless AC, safe in the room....

Review 123:We rented bikes from the hotel to rode to a Cenote 10 km away and my husband's bike chain kept falling off the track. He had to continuously fix it. Overall, it made for a memorable experience for me, albeit a frustrating one for him.

Review 124:Our housekeeper was so friendly and also helped us figure out the room safe. This was a great value! Beautiful rooms at a low cost. I will definitely be back!

Review 125:Room situated right next to eating area, we had to have our window covered all the time otherwise evereone was looking on our window. Staff not so friendly. We rented bikes, first they told us it was included in a room rate than we had to pay addicional cost (for more hours than we had bikes), and bikes were almost falling apart. No comon area by the pool.

Review 126:nice and clean room

Review 127:I liked everything.

Review 128:Beautiful building Spacious rooms Comfortable bed Rooms are quite dark, but they stay cool, which is a bonus. Rooftop terrace was a nice surprise. Pool is lovely too.

Review 129:Room was smelling bad.. even with parfume we couldn't get the smell away

Review 130:Room was nice, quite clean and wifi was working very well. Very near the center.. 5 min walk. Internal parking very convenient. Structure is cute and nice rooftop terrace

Review 131:The rooms window look to the corridor so you can't keep it open and the room is quite dark. No drinks after dark (which seems to be common across Yucatan)

Review 132:The hotel style The comfortable bed The cleanliness The nice and big room

Review 133:Nothing really, though the rooms were a bit dusty old granny style.

Review 134:Nice colonial style hotel with simple rooms but with the all the necessary facilities. Nice pool and terras. Good breakfast but this is not included in the price.
