Reviews for Albergo San Domenico
Review 1:Nice breakfast, eggs made to order. Hotel located close to good restaurants. We parked our car In the beach parking lot walked about one kilometer to the hotel, pretty level walk along the water. Make sure you have only one small bag on wheels. We left the rest in the car three days.
Review 2:Spotty wi-fi. Room was clean, but a bit worn and old looking furnishings. Beds were hard.
Review 3:Location on the top of the hill across from the Ducal Palace was wonderful. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very clean. Secure on-site parking.
Review 4:Hotel facilitaties need update and does not give 4-star experience.
Review 5:Hotel is very well located in the center of old town Orbino. Large room and tasteful breakfast. Good parking facility.
Review 6:Wifi was terrible, staff (except 1 girl) were not friendly. Very expensive considering breakfast was not included.
Review 7:Location, size of room (we paid for a "business double"), air conditioning and very good parking. Just steps away from the ducal palace. All rooms open on to a central courtyard and are quiet.
Review 8:Not a bad experience, but I think the ancient printer attached to the perfectly acceptable PC should be replaced now!
Review 9:The warmth and friendliness of the staff, the luxurious room, the excellent breakfast
Review 10:tour groups are noisy
Review 11:This is one of my favorite art cities: the hotel is an ex-convent, with a courtyard,a view of superb renaissance bldgs. central location, friendly help…..all good! great recommendation for restaurant "Stella," we went twice!!!!
Review 12:Wifi was free but not working in our room so we had to use it in the lobby. no biggey!!
Review 13:Close to our daughter who attends the Urbino University. Room was lovely. location great. Parking on site.
Review 14:The wifi was very difficult to use, constantly switching off. One receptionist was pretty offhand, but this was balanced by the friendliness of others. No attempt to speak English - so we had to try harder! Unusual in Italy, in our experience.
Review 15:The central location, the secure car park, the comfort of our room, the breakfast, the friendliness of most of the staff.
Review 16:Very expensive for what you get. How do they achieve 4 stars when they have none of the facilities of 1 or 2 stars.? I could not recommend this hotel to anyone. Give it a miss.
Review 17:Location Good size room
Review 18:Found it very difficult to find entrance to Urbino in car, even with satnav. A local helped us eventually to find our way in, and what a climb in the car up those hills and hairpins! But worth it.
Review 19:Excellent room, spacious, comfortable, clean. Very helpful staff at reception. Location to die for. Good parking on site. Very good breakfast. Good value too. Would definitely stay there again and would be first choice for Urbino.
Review 20:The room was sparsely decorated so it had a very monastic feel, appropriate for a converted monastery. Most of the staff were very nice with one or two exceptions who sent us to the tourist office rather than answer simple question. The city is wonderful and the location great!
Review 21:Uncongortable bed. Very basic room. No wifi in room No tel signal in room Old TV with poor reception No English speaking channels Ugly massage chair in room which did not work. Air conditioning unit noisy then stopped working.
Review 22:Location Parking facilitiy Staff did their best
Review 23:Poor wifi My air conditioning did not work properly Shower head very difficult to set - constantly slid down - I am a tall man!
Review 24:Large spacious room attractively furnished. Staff very obliging. Hotel well situated for exploring Urbino. Very good bathroom.
Review 25:No baby cot was available although it was requested - luckily we had our arrangements with us!
Review 26:Room was spacious, clean and staff were very helpful. Garage facility right next door which was a plus as we had a car
Review 27:Not specific to this hotel, but like most everywhere else the breakfast is awful. The wireless internet was weak.
Review 28:Un-presupposing and well attended, helpful staff and comfortable. Good coffee and plenty of useful information about Urbino. Very useful parking available. Comfortable room even when waiting for the rain to pass.
Review 29:The wifi was a bit spotty, and I found I sometimes had to stand out in the hall to get good reception.
Review 30:A beautiful hotel in the center of the magical city of Urbino, but just enough outside of the main square to be away from the steady stream of students and tourists. My room was furnished with period antiques, and the spotless bathroom was new with plenty of hot water. The very accommodating staff will be happy to tell you the history of the building that the hotel occupies. The breakfast was truly bountiful, with homemade pastries and tarts that are typical to the region.
Review 31:Overpriced and out-dated.
Review 32:Great location/parking. Helpful and courteous staff.
Review 33:Great location, friendly and helpful staff, spacious room and generous breakfast. Also secure parking in a traffic restricted town.
Review 34:The location is fantastic and the hotel is tranquil and relaxing. The building is ancient and beautiful.
Review 35:Location
Review 36:beds far too hard
Review 37:location, location, location
Review 38:Old furniture, bathroom needs tile repairs
Review 39:Position, spacious room, quiet outlook, friendly staff
Review 40:We enjoyed the help of excellent staff, the quiet room of excellent size.
Review 41:In addition tpo the excellent facilities, the staff we encountered were all real people who seemed genuinely pleased to be assisting their guests.
Review 42:Wifi only 2 hours
Review 43:So close to the Ducal Palace and right in the middle of this old town.
Review 44:Poor wi fi in the Rooms.
Review 45:Excellent location Clean nice Rooms .Very good .breakfas
Review 46:Bed not comfortable..... Very hard pillows.....
Review 47:Excellent location..... Good parking facility. Helpful staff.
Review 48:Urbino and location of the hotel
Review 49:Would have booked a less expensive hotel for 2 or more nights.
Review 50:Great location, beautiful hotel. Very clean. Spacious comfortable rooms. Helpful staff. A nice treat for one night in Urbino.
Review 51:The staff were unfriendly and the breakfast was quite poor with little choice and stale breads and cakes.
Review 52:The location was good, although the driving directions could be clearer.
Review 53:Breakfast was biased towards those with a sweet tooth. Many cakes, not much choice for bread and hams
Review 54:The location of the hotel was excellent and the reception staff were really excellent
Review 55:Had to ask to have some light bulbs replaced that were burned out. Otherwise, perfect.
Review 56:Location. Directly in the center of town and across form the Ducal Palace. You don't get closer. They also have parking available directly on site which is reassuring when driving. Friendly reception and staff. The lady in the breakfast room extremely helpful and friendly.
Review 57:A very slow register on arrival about half an hour with long telephone call and another customer going in front of us by walking to the front, we did not feel very welcome!
Review 58:Chaotic breakfast arrangements. On a busy Saturday morning there were simply not enough plates, cutlery or food. The hot food container (bacon & egs etc)was very small & as the lid was left off it was soon cold and anyway ran out. Not good enough for a four star hotel. The decoration in the front hall is both ugly and inappropriate for the style of the old building. A hideous sort of black snake-like contraption faces the entrance. It is very off- putting and inelegant, not indicative of the standard of hotel as advertised. Although we were happy to have our meals out, we think it rather a pity that the hotel is unable to offer an evening meal.
Review 59:Very good central location. Quiet, even though in city centre. Excellent friendly staff. Comfortable bedroom .accessible for cars and good parking arrangements.
Review 60:Service was efficient and friendly. Hotel was a five minute walk from Duomo and Palace. Rooms huge, very quiet. Parking was in courtyard very convenient. Beds large and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, everything you wanted, savoury to cakes and cereals! Very luxurious and peaceful
Review 61:Location is perfect--in the middle of the old city. The room was spacious, comfortable--even the bed! The best feature was the massage lounge chair. Parking and internet are very good.
Review 62:The absence of a restaurant and very small lounge facilities. The hotelis really too expensive and therefore does not really represent valuefor money. Breakfast was extra and not that exciting at €11 per head. There was also a daily parking charge - €12
Review 63:The central location with courtyard parking. A reasonable sized bedroomon the "luxury floor"
Review 64:Breakfast offered a range of choices. Some individual items were a disapointment.
Review 65:location was excellent, with convenient parking alongside; very quiet despite the central location.Staff were helpful and friendly at all times.
Review 66:It seemed strange that there was no free wi-fi, as all of the otherhotels we stayed at on this trip offered it. And because the breakfastwas 11e per person per day for more food than we wanted or needed, wedecided it wasn't worth it and left each morning to get somethingelsewhere. It would have been much more convenient to just eat there.
Review 67:We enjoyed staying in the midst of Urbino without being literally in themiddle of the noisy/busy Piazza della Republica. Our room was nice andspacious, with a place for our luggage and some drawers and a wardrobefor our clothing. There was also enough light to see, both in thebedroom and the bathroom. Elisa at the front desk made sure we felt athome there and was eager to help with any information we needed. Shealso happily handled an unusual situation for us that we were not fluentenough to take care of on our own. We also liked knowing that our carwas safely parked in the courtyard, right outside the hotel.
Review 68:A wonderful and the best location right in the heart of this ideal princely city soaking up its atmosphere opposite the ducal palace and really lovely staff. nothing was too much trouble. thoroughly recommend this to anyone.
Review 69:had read reviews and saw breakfast was expensive at €11 a head and took other reviewers advice and ate for €4.50 at cafe 10 metres away! Perhaps they should review their prices in this day and age.
Review 70:Lovely room, large, one of the de luxe ones, massage chair in room. Very clean, staff very helpful. Good, secure parking at side of hotel.
Review 71:The hotel is a bit tired. Hall floors need resurfacing. Breakfast is mainly prepackaged bakery and eggs were cold.
Review 72:Location in city center and available parking. The rooms are adequate and roomy. Bathroom is good.
Review 73:The breakfast menu didn't seem that appealing so we went into a local cafe instead.
Review 74:The family room was very spacious and comfortable. The bathroom facilities were very clean. Very central location.
Review 75:A minor gripe, is that there didn't seem to be stair access to thefloors (except in emergency), so we always had to use the lift.
Review 76:I studied one summer in Urbino over 30 years ago, so it was great tocome back and stay in a hotel that has such character, right in the mosthistoric centre of the city. Can't recommend it highly enough.
Review 77:Not cheap. It is a shame that when one has spent so much on a hotel thatthey then feel it necessary to charge extra for internet connection.
Review 78:Amazing position right opposite the Palazzo Ducale. Large and simplyfurnished room overlooking the central courtyard - where our car wassecurely parked. A great breakfast eaten outside in the courtyard.
Review 79:The air conditioning was not operating fully. The Wifi charges areunacceptable in today's environment. The receptionist was put in anawkward position when dealing with our complaint of being charged foremail access.
Review 80:The location of the hotel was fabulous. We had one of the bestbreakfasts ever. It was easy to drive to and the parking was inside acourtyard. Urbino is a great atmospheric place to stay in.
Review 81:The Wi-Fi was not free, but worked OK. However, it was not possible to switch off the access once it was established. Accordingly, no use (night-time) was also to be paid for!
Review 82:Located in the middle of Urbino's historic centre, it served an excellent starting point for excursions and visits to the historic sites. All modern facilities, but traditional furniture in the room made our stay a pleasant one. Parking in an inner courtyard was attractive. Friendly staff.
Review 83:See above.
Review 84:We had trouble with the electronic light operation, mostly because the system was not properly explained to us from the outset. The bathtub was broken and the drain not functioning properly, making it hard to use this facility. The manager apologized and gave us reasonable and fair credit in return. The breakfast was by far the best we have encountered in two weeks in Italy. Location cannot be topped.
Review 85:Besides the very friendly staff, who were enormously helpful in their primary roles and as concierges, we valued the location the most. Across from the ducal palace and within the heart of the city, with secure parking in the courtyard, we found Albergo San Domenico hard to beat in Urbino. Without being in any way luxurious, the room was quite comfortable and quiet.
Review 86:Albergo San Domenico calls itself a four-star hotel. Its location iswonderful and the staff is fine. However, there is more that they can doto justify that status and the rather high room price. Specifically, thefollowing was not up to four-star standard: 1. there was only one set ofbathroom towels, though we were a couple; 2. we booked by internet, which did not include breakfast; the amount that they would have chargedwas too high; 3. the furniture is looking a little "tired" -- though wedon't watch television, the small screen cathode ray tv belongs in anelectronics museum rather than an up-to-date hotel; 4. there was abroken corner tile in the bathroom, with a piece missing; and 5. veryirritatingly, they would charge for wifi access -- unacceptable in aquality hotel.
Review 87:The use of 'modern' Italian art, statues and strange contraptions, were out of place in such a building. The furniture in our room was ok but out-dated in a down-at-heel manner. The TV was very old-fashioned with a huge bubble at the back and no larger than ca. 24". When we arrived the room temperature had been set at 26 degrees and the room was sweltering. My partner tried to adjust this to ca. 20 degrees without success. When he pointed this out to the reception afterwards he was told that all the guest rooms were set at this temperature and that the individual room had to be turned off to fix the problem. After a good airing, this was ok. Also there was a charge of €11 for breakfast and the hotel restaurant was closed in the evening, probably because it was too early in the season. Instead we had a lovely meal at the nearby restaurant called "Leo".
Review 88:We chose the Albergo San Domenico because it had been a former monastry, and we thought that would contribute to a restful atmosphere. The building itself was very nice, and our room as large, the bathroom was excellent.
Review 89:Outstanding breakfast
Review 90:Wonderful position right opposite the Ducal Palace. Large , comfortably furnished rooms. Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.
Review 91:Poor wifi. Public art in foyer
Review 92:The calm large rooms are very comfortable. Good that they are not over designed. Good table to work at.
Review 93:This is a very relaxing hotel - this was a return visit and I'm sure we'll be back again
Review 94:Staff was very helpful and the hotel was very nice. Convenience to all the sights was great.
Review 95:bed was hard as a rock
Review 96:Nothing
Review 97:Staff was very helpful, location was great and the value was good
Review 98:Price, breakfast not included, leaking ceiling, poor wifi service.
Review 99:Friendly staff

Review 101:Felt a bit tired

Review 103:Central location. Friendly and helpful staff. Exceedingly comfortable bedroom. Breakfast very relaxing and excellent choice of food etc.
Review 104:Location and charm
Review 105:Air conditioning was centrally controlled and inconsistent
Review 106:Fantastic location, very spacious room, very friendly staff, good car park, free wifi
Review 107:No evening restaurant, had a scorpion in the room, killed in the night
Review 108:Good location, own car park, if expensive, comfortable, helpful staff.
Review 109:Expensive for the hotel's facilities but location couldn't be bettered.
Review 110:Fantastic location, adjacent to the Ducal Palace
Review 111:Poor air-con
Review 112:Central but quiet location. Excellent breakfast buffet with friendly staff.
Review 113:Lovely hotel, great location, clean. If you're driving, make sure youget instructions to the hotel. Difficult town to drive in.
