Reviews for Estalagem Da Ponta Do Sol
Review 1:Nothing not to like.
Review 2:We loved every minute of our stay. I'm five months pregnant and we wanted a really relaxing, lazy holiday, doing nothing. You could go on the free shuttle to Funchal, visit the museum 10 mins away at Calheta (highly rated by the Guardian) and enjoy the levada walks (also a free shuttle to many sites) or you could do what we did and spend most of the week in your white robe, hardly moving. We were lucky enough to get a room right by the stunning outdoor infinity pool and jacuzzi and indoor pool, with views over the Atlantic Ocean. The weather was mixed in mid Jan but most days saw around three to four hours of beautiful, warm-hot sunshine. You don't even have to dress for lunch - eat it in the Kabu bar (with more stunning ocean views.) Breakfasts (you have to dress for them) were excellent, vast and varied and with amazing puddings, evening meals fantastic, staff friendly, and we loved the architecture of the hotel. The massages are great, too. Two nice bars in the village, five mins walk from hotel. There's also a sister hotel with a great, slightly cheaper, restaurant on the front. Go to Sol Poente restaurant/bar in the village for the views, perched over the sea. A wonderful stay.
Review 3:We had to leave :-)
Review 4:View: We booked a "garden view" room that had a superb ocean view to the left. Staff: Was nice and helpful Wifi: worked great Breakfast and Dinner were outstanding
Review 5:Not the best choice for families with active children. Pool/Spa seems to be catering to older, quieter guests.
Review 6:Nice views from the pool. Sauna and Steam room are nice. Great little town to walk to for dinner.
Review 7:The car hire service hotel recommend is not very good value for money, though that is not hotel fault.
Review 8:Fantastic food with extremely reasonable price. Very good shuttle bus service and very good indoor and outdoor pool. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Location of the hotel is sublime. Two local cafes beside beach are serving Michelin quality food.
Review 9:Going home!
Review 10:Super friendly staff, some lovely spaces, even though the hotel was fully booked it didn't feel cramped. Fantastic food at reasonable prices with the £/€ exchange. Beautiful position. Choice of eating in the small town but advised to book!
Review 11:Gabo bar out of bounds at sunset time for yoga class - excluded people who simply wanted to go and have a drink and watch the sun go down .
Review 12:friendly staff excellent pool good food good location late check out
Review 13:The staff were excellent from the moment of our arrival until it came to time to leave. Gave us excellent advice on places to go and found us an English speaking guide to the island( which made our stay). All the facilities were as good as people said they would be. Loved the infinity pool.
Review 14:No double bed, but 2 single bed put together
Review 15:Excellent service, very friendly and helpful staff, extraordinary food (restaurant and breakfast, especially the freshly baked cakes), trendy minimalist room style in 50s decor, sunset visible from the terrace, good summer concert program
Review 16:Hotel is on a clifftop location in the beautiful little town of Ponta do Sol, with great views throughout the place. Service is good. Rooms are spacious, modern clean and full of light. Biggest plus is infinity pool, again beautiful view, quiet and calm, with poolside service. Restaurant and bar aren't bad either. There's a spa which I didn't go to, and a few great options for activities organised from the hotel (walks, tours, surfing).
Review 17:Beautifull place, lovely staff. My compliments to the chef - best desserts I've ever had! The rooms are airy and minimalist - just perfect! Would strongly recommend it but don't think is a place for children. Will definitely came back
Review 18:the bathroom products could be of a better brand, but that is really the only thing I can criticize.
Review 19:The location and view from the room was simply amazing. The breakfast buffet was enormous and truly delicious and the room spacious and comfy. The staff was incredibly friendly and they mailed me an item I had forgotten at no charge.
Review 20:The only thing we would have asked for was that the outdoor pool could have been a bit warmer (late January).
Review 21:We enjoyed everything about Estalagem da Ponta do Sol! What an atmosphere! There were places to sit all around the place, both during daytime and during the evening. The view was stunning. The service and staff was good and friendly in a professional personal way. The shuttle service to airport, cities and levadawalks was great. It was easy to go for trips to the whole island from here. The food was delicious. And another tips for a very good fish restaurant was Sol Poente Snackbar restaurant by the beach, and ask for the fish of the day!
Review 22:The acoustic in the restaurant who is very noisy especially at the breakfast ( and no places enough )
Review 23:The view on the sea , the swimming pool & spa , and the SUPER breakfast changing every day .
Review 24:On arrival we were told that Official Festivities were planned over the weekend with street dance party to 4 and 5 am. We were told we could be transferred overnight to sleep at a hotel in a nearby village. Very unnecessary and hotel knew this was going to happen so why not advise when I booked months earlier. Madeira is taking tourists for granted and will loose out if it doesn't get its act together. We also found the pool crowded and all loungers with towels spread on them but no-one present - hotel needs to manage this to be fair to all guests. I'd seriously doubt I'd go back to Madeira on holiday again and to this hotel unless changes are made.
Review 25:We were visiting the hotel for the third time the last being ten years ago. The location of the hotel is superb for a quiet getaway and we wanted to follow on from a week in Funchal with a quiet walking week on the West of the island. Staff were very pleasant and the hotel is wonderful in location although a little quirky to access and park near.
Review 26:Amazing place. The view from the hotel is stunning. We especially liked the swimingpool area. The breakfest was also very nice. It's a perfect place for couples.
Review 27:Everything was great!
Review 28:The room with the view to the see. I liked ambient and general athmosphere of the Hotel.
Review 29:nothing
Review 30:big room, nice pool, modern art and wonderfull location
Review 31:A beautiful hotel in a stunning location. There is now a spa. Staff is most helpful.
Review 32:No room service.
Review 33:It was peaceful and beautiful. The rooms were very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and very generous!
Review 34:Stunning location and superb facilities
Review 35:Liked everything and I cannot frequently say that
Review 36:This place exceeded my wildest expectations. Total nirvana.
Review 37:quiet environment, nice view of the coast and mountains, unique design of the hotel on a cliff.
Review 38:location, food, architecture, facilities, friendliness of staff
Review 39:Room inside is too simplistic. No true double/queen bed - just two single beds which plugged together (no common mattress even). Outdoor pool stated as heated, but actually very cold in winter (no usage unless it is becoming significantly warmer outside). Sauna is switched-off too early, however internal pool works till 10pm. Breakfast could be managed better by offering some seats outside at good weather, maybe with adding a fas lamp there for warming up. One day arriving at 10am to breakfast had to stay 15min in a queue.. Heating in the room didn't worked - so they gave me a stand-alone heater, which was good. Amount of dogs and cats at reception area and next to the restaurant was really a bit strange, even I like animals.
Review 40:Location is outstanding..! Views are magnificent, even from so called Garden room! Breakfast was very good, a little bit crowded during prime time (9-10:30 am). Dinner at the hotel restaurant was superb - went there every day..! The food at dinner was truly delicious and the service was super friendly. Loved their free perks - like transportation to levada walk (even for just 3 persons, they still did that), also the shuttle to Funchal is great option. Billiard table in the main quinta - nowhere mentioned and a bit badly maintained, but still nice surprise..! Wi-Fi is free and very good signal, I was able to use video over Skype on my Surface from the pool bar and show there entire ocean panorama. Wellness facilities are nice addition too. Hotel is like 4*, nice design and layout, but no luxurious at all - would benefit from up-scaling to 5 stars by renovation and better interiors and other small, but important luxury improvements (see downsides).. What made my trip at the end - staff, food, views and price deal.
Review 41:Rooms at first glance appeared ok. However on closer inspection they require upgrading - heating system in room very noisy/query faulty, cigarette burn on TV unit, paintwork in bathroom needed redone. Generally a little bit tired & no feeling of luxury whatsoever .Owners really need to think about the noisy barking dogs allowed in the reception area, not quite the right ambience for the restaurant which is located above !
Review 42:Location & quality of food in restaurant were both excellent. Staff in restaurant & bar were very attentive & pleasant.
Review 43:Staff weren't overly friendly or helpful. The restaurant was a bit of a disappointment. The food was ok, not great, but the staff were unfriendly. Eat at the restaurant down at the beach on top of the cliff area, its the best.
Review 44:Beautiful views of the surrounding hills. Complimentary buffet breakfast. Infinity pool was nice and had a great high view of the ocean.
Review 45:the parking was a bit narrow and not easy to park when it's crowded
Review 46:almost everything. a hidden pearl on Madeira worthing warm reccomendation. very original architecture, lots of ' unexpected' spaces, gardens, accents, bar areas...on top of a cliff, only reachable by...2 high elevators! clean, comfortable, peacefull, trendy, hip, excellent food, superb view, good breakfast, nice infinity pool - very different than the average hotel
Review 47:the restaurant of the hotel is a bit pretentious, maybe it's better to eat in the village. the parking is too small
Review 48:design of the hotel two nice pools
Review 49:Our stay was too short.
Review 50:A long list: friendliness, informal professional, very wellcoming, fabulous wellness & massage facilities, original food, pleasant atmosphere, luxurous rooms,...
Review 51:A few more car parking spaces down below somewhere.
Review 52:Ponta do Sol is a wonderful cliff-top retreat in a stunning location, with good design and very friendly and welcoming staff - nothing is too much trouble for them. A perfect place to relax and chill.
Review 53:Restaurant was overpriced for its quality.
Review 54:Great location, absolutely worth booking a seaside room.
Review 55:the dogs in the lobby and all the hairs
Review 56:very nice staff and good location
Review 57:AMAZING location lovely staff place was buzzing great food beautiful room will return
Review 58:Location excellent Facilities were amazing Food excellent Views out of this world
Review 59:good hotel to relax and pamper yourself, stunning location and awsome pool.
Review 60:There was nothing in the minibar. There was no room service. Bed wasuncomfortable
