Reviews for The Villa In Lavinia

Review 1:This place was perfect for us to unwind for a few nights before we flew back home. Close walk to the Beach, but the pool is really nice as well. Great value for money.

Review 2:Modern styled hotel with lovely pool and terrace. Helpful staff and manager who also arranged an airport pick up and phoned to confirm other booked accommodation. Close to beach and lots of good eating places- able to walk to beach and Mount Lavinia hotel and take train or Tuk Tuk to Colombo.

Review 3:Nothing

Review 4:This place truly is paradise. As soon as you step through the doors you are greeted with the warmest smiles that would revitalise even the weariest of travellers. The welcome drink of homemade ginger beer is the perfect introduction to the quality and standard of food, drinks, service and room. The room is like stepping back in time, amazing decor that makes you itch for your camera. The most comfortable bed we ever slept in. We opted for a Sri Lankan and western style breakfast, delicious and a very generous serving that left us full till dinner time. A place we will definitely revisit the next time we are in Sri Lanka... A one in a million hotel where the service is impeccable.

Review 5:Room too small , no refund if three nights , other than James staff not friendly except one young boy who spoke English. Next morning ? Owner there stalking us

Review 6:As we arrived driver told us "bad" drugs, violence area and it was nice accommodation in a grubby area. James UK manager listened to our comments and understood our decision leave after one night instead if four. Room was tiny we arrived late to what appeared to be some unfriendly staff James has a difficult job ahead.

Review 7:Access to the beach and restaurants of a night was via a lane, across railway tracks... It's a bit dark, wouldn't feel safe going alone

Review 8:Very friendly staff. Manager has a very excitable young dog, who's company we enjoyed. Cheeky little thing she is

Review 9:the shower didn't drain freely. Bit tricky to find

Review 10:The manager, James, was incredibly helpful and friendly and was very giving of his time with suggestions for our itinerary.

Review 11:Other than beach, limited options for things to see or do.

Review 12:The Villa itself was beautiful. Room compact, however extremely comfortable, clean and good facilities. Good location for visiting beach.

Review 13:No complaints.

Review 14:Very helpful staff especially the manager. Comfortable stay, nice room with TV fridge hot shower good bed. Location close to beach and shops. Nice breakfast. Quiet street away from busy city centre.

Review 15:the hotel dog was around the main lobby a lot. We were not keen on it. Otherwise all fine.

Review 16:Good comfortable rooms, with small pool.stayed in Mount Lavinia on several occassions and a convenient spot. Although traffic on galle rd is best avoided in peak time since- gridlock!

Review 17:It is in a bad noisy run down area - access to beach is difficult - breakfast first morning were very bad - after we complained better second morning - did not clean the rooms only to be told you should request it even though their was no card that you could hang outside your door - the TV's did not work after all guest repeatedly requested that the decoders are reset - there is better places to stay in Lavinia and even our request for 2 single beds in the one bedroom just felt on death ears. Will never stay here again - Hotel Lavinia is more expensive but so much better that this place. Avoid - all these comments were shared with the manager when we departed.

Review 18:Inside the place is nice and very classy - rooms are nice although on the small side

Review 19:But there are some downsides, too: - of course the WiFi is as instabile as in any other hotel in Sri Lanka; - the location in the district of Mount Lavinia is horrible: it's an extremely poor, underdeveloped area not feeling secure at all that makes the Villa stick out like a misplaced part of another world (which it actually is).

Review 20:The Villa in Lavinia is awesome: - very modern and newly built with high-quality facilities; - freshly prepared breakfast according to individual wishes every day; - the pool is small but absolutely lovely. What is more, I felt entirely secure inside the Villa (despite the area!). James and his friendly staff turn this place into an intimate safe haven that feels like home.

Review 21:The manager James was a great host. From the early check in to the late check out our stay there was perfect. The breakfast is pretty decent. Very helpful staff.

Review 22:Breakfast. But maybe thats my problem that i don´t like eat every morning egg or pineapple.

Review 23:Short walk to beach and they own pool for kids. Nice stuff also.

Review 24:The hotel's in a compound down a long unlit road and while there's no question about safety it does seem like something of an enclave among normal Sri Lankans. It's nice once you accept this isn't your usual ivory tower and no one apart from the tuk tuk drivers bothers you. This is actually where they live...

Review 25:Four minutes walk from the beach, and then a beautiful stretch of coastline with fantastic sunsets and fishermen landing their catch in the early morning. Life on the beach is very lively - paddling, touch rugby, families enjoying the sea - and you're in among the local community. Managers James and Jeff are fonts of knowledge and great for suggestions. Order the Sri Lankan breakfast.

Review 26:Perfect location. The complete staff treat you like a family member without being intrusive. Clean and beautiful decorated. Small but very refreshing pool.

Review 27:James and his staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. Only stayed for a night but would have happily stayed longer. The rooms were very modern and clean.

Review 28:Nothing!

Review 29:Everything!! Rooms, beds, food, staff, BBQ, tea and cake, pool, space - all excellent. James is lovely and the place is a real oasis of calm after the mania of Colombo.

Review 30:Very nice and clean villa in a quite part of Colombo. Only a few minutes to the beach. James, the owner who have helped us to manage a driver for a couple of days when we were travelling around the island was bombastic! Local brakfast and a good wifi signal. If we are coming back to Colombo for sure will stay in James's villa again.Thank you, Juliana :)

Review 31:Excellent service from the manager and all the staff. They were all so helpful and couldn't do enough for you. The location was excellent. The room was spacious, comfortable, and clean. We loved our stay there and would highly recommend it to other travellers.

Review 32:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was perfect. If you are on just a vacation or business and want to be nearby the beach then this is the place for you.

Review 33:Internet is available only in public areas, the signal in the room is too weak; rooms are slightly small but considering the price they are very good value

Review 34:Everything is very new and in good condition. The staff and management are very attentive, helping you in anything you might require; good breakfast. No hidden tax, being just outside of Colombo you do not have to pay the outrageous city tax etc. Easy access to Colombo with public buses, taxi via nearby Galle road. Quiet location, swimming pool to cool down, few meters walking distance to the beach with nice seafood restaurants

Review 35:All good!

Review 36:Nothing.

Review 37:Lovely friendly hotel. Excellent staff. Close to beach. Quiet away from busy centre.

Review 38:I will choose this hotel whenever I back to srilanka ..... Love this hotel . Staff, and the very very cute dog.........

Review 39:quiet, clean rooms, friendly and helpful staff

Review 40:10 pm lockout, dangerous walk to/from the beach at night.

Review 41:Aircon, bed, pool, wifi, shower, breakfast, staff, security

Review 42:James is the most wonderful host. He is so friendly and accomodating! We would definitely stay here again.
