Reviews for Fletcher Hotel Gilde

Review 1:No coffee/ tea making facilities in room, small bathroom without proper door (sliding door), room a bit dated.

Review 2:Beautiful monumental building. Room with balcony and nice view overlooking courtyard. Excellent breakfast. Central and convenient location.

Review 3:Nothing.

Review 4:The hotel is in town centre, shops and restaurants are around the corner. I booked a comfort room for my sister and me and it was modern with separate beds with duvets, a modern shower and breakfast was good and included in the price!

Review 5:The room was very plain and run down. No tea/coffeemaker, no hairdryer, nothing to hang your coat on, thin curtains, no decoration. It needs an update. Worst were the beds: small, uncomfortable, too soft, old fluffy pillows and the seperate parts of the bed tend to move around while asleep. Not at all romantic in any way.

Review 6:Beautifull old building. Proximity to the center (its ín the center). Very friendly staff. Lovely breakfast.

Review 7:Lack of facilities in room, no water unless you want the bathroom tap water, no kettle and had to request a hairdryer. Layout of the bedroom was ridiculous the tv was pointing at the wall and the bed was squashed up in the corner. Lots of noise early in the mornings and throughout the night. Staff a little unhelpful, no food available except for breakfast not even snacks - Wouldn't stay again.

Review 8:Decent location and comfy bed.

Review 9:It seems that the furniture and room are a bit dated. the shower/bath was clean, but felt a bit dated. not a real problem, just think the hotel needs to think about modernization.

Review 10:The hotel is right in the heart of the city. close to everything. nice room and facility's. very good breakfast.

Review 11:The shower has no support for putting my own soap and shampoo. Not very serious but perhaps they could add this.

Review 12:Good large room, good bed, practical bathroom, quiet, friendly staff, good breakfast.

Review 13:The street was no traffic allowed and parking was nearby in public car park which cost me €13.50 for overnight.

Review 14:Lovely location for restaurants etc. and nice outside area at the back.

Review 15:Room was a trek to get to. No info on where to go or what to do. Room was old fashioned and beds uncomfortable. Staff were ok. No tea/ coffee making facilities in room. No cups or kettle. Had cooker and fridge but not crockery or cutlery.parking for loading and unloading hopeless.

Review 16:Location.

Review 17:Charming re-use of this former convent. Attractive woodwork and stained glass. Appreciated having our tandem bike in a secure indoor storage area overnight.

Review 18:The hotel wasn't quite what we expected. The hotelroom (nr. 36) had no door separating the wc from the rest of the room, and according to the hotel receptionist many guests before us complained about it yet they haven't put in a in door yet. There was very poor hotel service in evenings. For example I dialled the service desk to ask for another blanket, and the staff member replied that he was new and that he didn't know anything and therefore couldn't help me. At breakfast: the choice of buffet was reasonably good. However, the chairs/tables are definitely too close together and gives a crammed-in feeling, also making it difficult to get to the buffet with several "excuse me" on the way there and same on the way back. The layout could definitely benefit from a re-think.

Review 19:For the main part, the hotel was okay. However, for me it felt like the quality of the hotel did not fit with the price I paid for it. I won't be rushing to book this one again...

Review 20:Reception staff couldn't help enough Breakfast on the garden terrace is a perfect start to the day. Rooms are not super 'polished' but old fashioned comfort is much more homely.

Review 21:Bed wasn't very good, I could count the springs in the matress... that having said others in my group had good matresses so maybe I just had bad luck

Review 22:Hotel is located in a very nice old building. With a quite little terras out back which is in the sun unitll ~7pm

Review 23:Loved the feel of the place and the friendliness of the staff. We had a room for three on the 4th floor, which was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was very good and I'd stay there again anytime.

Review 24:- the room was a bit drafty, due to the old building probably, but the heating was working very well

Review 25:- got a free upgrade to a room with access to the terrace - the house is amazing, very old and with a lot of details to look at

Review 26:We couldn't get in with our night key and there was no one to open the door when we wanted to get in at 23:10. But luckily later that night there was someone at the desk to let us in

Review 27:Location and friendliness off the staff

Review 28:That we didn't stay longer

Review 29:We came to the beautiful city of Deventer to honeymoon and see friends. The hotel was the perfect accompaniment to the city. Wonderful

Review 30:There was no lift, but this wasn't a problem for us. You wanted to keep your wits about you on the steep, narrow, circular staircase. Made a good picture.

Review 31:We could walk from the station - 10 minutes. The staff very helpful. We easily rented good bikes from the hotel. Easy walking distance to restaurants, the Saturday market, shopping, bank machines. Very convenient. The staff, the cleanliness, the history of this former 18th Century church, then hospital, now hotel, the breakfast, our very quiet room facing onto a courtyard.

Review 32:We couldn't stay longer. :(

Review 33:We spent our last night in the Netherlands here, would've have stayed longer, but had to fly home. Love the quaintness of this place and the village. excellent breakfast, also provided gluten free croissants and rolls for my husband at breakfast. It was a great find!

Review 34:My room in the basement had a window next to an open space, therefor I couldnt open it during the night. It was most uncomfortable. No fohn Very noisy during breakfast, staff

Review 35:Excellent location Beautiful ancient building Nice beds, too soft matras perhaps Bathroom was very clean

Review 36:Room 6 is in the basement, directly under the kitchen and right next to the washing machines and the service rooms. We were woken up by the footsteps in the morning and we were constantly disturbed by the noise and people just doing their job. It's the management's fault that they put a guest room in a place where only a storage or service room should be.

Review 37:Perfect location. Beautiful building. Lavish breakfast included in the price. Clean and modern.

Review 38:There's no parking at the hotel since the building is straight in the center. Nearest parking is approx. 10 minute walk from the hotel.

Review 39:We liked the building very much, as well as the interior design of the hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. And the breakfast was excellent. There's a nice bar and a wonderful inner court yard where you can sit and have breakfast as well in the open air. Would recommend this hotel

Review 40:The payment procedure is bad. Wouldn't let me cancel and there is lack of communication

Review 41:The staff members are very nice and helpful.

Review 42:nothing

Review 43:Deventer is a little jewel. A beautiful medieval town and the hotel is at a perfect location.

Review 44:good access to city centre great staffs which translates to good management

Review 45:Nice historic accommodation in a quieter part of the citycentre. Would recommend this hotel to others.

Review 46:Beautiful building and very pleasant staff. Lovely breakfast.

Review 47:niets

Review 48:alles was prima

Review 49:Bike stored in outdoor courtyard, super room in turret, central location

Review 50:ligging in de stad

Review 51:Nice staff very helpful. Breakfast very good.

Review 52:Right in the centre of town. Our room was huge but up in the eaves so up a very precarious flight of stairs!

Review 53:Bed was a bit too soft for my taste

Review 54:The location and the building

Review 55:Beautiful building, good breakfast

Review 56:Facilities to make a drink

Review 57:Helpfull breakfast good

Review 58:Location - handy for the railway station and the centre of town.

Review 59:Charming hotel.

Review 60:The room was outdated, small, and very basic. Two separate beds pushed together is not good for a couple.

Review 61:Attractive building, good breakfast

Review 62:No exercise room Bit outdated - needs bringing up to date

Review 63:Location Staff friendly

Review 64:Old renovated building, so many different room types available.

Review 65:Convienently located in center

Review 66:BED NO PARKING

Review 67:PRICE LOCATION ARCHITECTUE BREAKFAST

Review 68:Facilities in the room. Ligth in bathroom partially defect. Remote TV malfunction. Small room for 100 euro.

Review 69:Needs refurbishing badly

Review 70:Staff quite good

Review 71:The lack of secure parking at the property. BOOKING.COM indicated that there would be parking available.

Review 72:The tiled decoration in the main hallway.

Review 73:The room was too hot & the church bell too loud with the window open to get to sleep.

Review 74:The breakfast facility was good

Review 75:there was no hot water in my room> I left the tap running for minutes and there was no hot water.

Review 76:Michael and one of the girls at front counter who was just in training. Always helpful.

Review 77:The rooms were a bit outdated and simple. VERY small bathroom!

Review 78:Location of hotel plus staff was very friendly. Breakfast was good.

Review 79:The very central location to … everything! The train station; easy access to getting away from town and out on to some beautiful routes for cycling. The receptionist upon check-in was very patient and encouraging as I used my limited Dutch-language skills - bedankt voor uw medewerking! :)

Review 80:No toiletries or hair drier in our room.Credit card style room key failed twice in three days.

Review 81:Excellent medium sized 3* hotel centrally located, in a quiet road, away from the restaurant and bars area.Lovely atrium and breakfast room, with good inclusive breakfast.

Review 82:The door cannot be opened (after 10 pm) with the key-card. This problem is known to staff but does not get solved.

Review 83:The most friendly atmosphere of & in the building.

Review 84:My room was next to a service door and the night porter was obviously restocking or something which kept me up. Bedroom décor was a bit boring.

Review 85:Really comfy bed. Lovely setting. The breakfast was fairly substantial and international.

Review 86:the information beforehand(about parking rates, steep stairs instead of elevator to the room), not easy to get the luggage upstairs, lack of comfort (no hair dryer, refrigerator in the room, no soap in toilet. No decaf at breakfast.

Review 87:the building, the location, the room,

Review 88:Carpets in room dirty,, chairs in room stained, bathroom garbage can not emptied during 4 day stay. Large bathroom but not counter space or big enough towel bars to hang wet towels.

Review 89:Location excellent. Breakfast buffet good

Review 90:Very tiny room. Front desk not that helpful. We booked a room on courtyard and got one on the street

Review 91:Beautiful lobby Excellent breakfast in a lovely room overlooking the garden.

Review 92:Although the hotel's entrance is beautifully restored in original style, the hotel rooms are definitely up for renovation. In our room the carpet on the floor was worn-down and showed clear stains from many years of use. The bathroom was old, and not completely clean. Bed was good and clean though. Because the windows are old-fashioned single-glass, one can hear all noises from outside for the full 100%. Being in a city center, this does not guarantee a restfull sleep. Also, basic comforts like a coffee maker or mini-bar are missing. Furniture was old, and could do with replacement.

Review 93:Friendly staff. Good breakfast.

Review 94:I do hope the management will consider spending a little time and money on updating some of the hotel's carpets and paintwork. It is a great pity that parts of the interior of this beautiful monumental building create a rather drab, down-at-heel impression. It deserves more. I would suggest a bit of much-needed cosseting!

Review 95:This was my second visit to Hotel Gilde. The previous time was about a year ago and, being a solo-traveller, I was booked into a comfortable single room. This time I was allotted a fairly spacious twin-bedded room. It was clean and reasonably well furnished with sufficient hanging space for clothes. The bed was comfortable and I slept very well during my four-night stay. The ensuite bathroom was particularly good, with its wet-room style shower, and excellent facilities, including a good supply of towels. The breakfast buffet every morning offered an excellent and plentiful choice and the staff on duty were friendly and efficient. Yes, I enjoyed my stay at the Gilde and will gladly visit the hotel again the next time I am in Holland.

Review 96:The 2-person bed in the 2nd room was two singles that refused to stayclose together, so husband & I had to sleep on them as separatebeds. The bathroom could have been a little cleaner.

Review 97:We stayed in the family room, which had two rooms with a door between, and then the bathroom. Rooms were a fine size, comfortable. Free wifi inthe room worked well. Breakfast was included and had a nice variety ofoptions, including miniature sprinkles boxes for bread!

Review 98:2 single beds does not = a double room. I think I fell through the gap a few times during the night.

Review 99:Great breakfast. Nice shower. Comfy sheets. Brilliant location really friendly staff who were super helpful

Review 100:The lamps dind'nt work good they dind't help with we lugguge binthe 3 stairs we had to clime, parkingfacilities

Review 101:The looking of the hotel and the closeness to the centre of the city

Review 102:The shower floor can get slippery when wet and has no handles on the wall to help break a fall or get up afterwards. Our elderly guest fell hard and could not get back up. Would have appreciated a teapot in the bedrooms (had one in every other hotel in Holland).

Review 103:Lovely location, excellent breakfast, friendly staff.

Review 104:room 1 is outdated. true. the shower too. it has a shower curtain, yes. but it's all simple and clean. our room was on the ground floor, next to the street. so kinda noisy.

Review 105:the building is marvellous. no doubt. the hotel has a very friendly staff, serves good breakfast and rooms have nice soft beds. it's well situated just a minute walk from our parking and downtown. we had room 1, which is very spacy.

Review 106:We booked a family room. Although the entrance of the hotel has a verynice atmosphere, that was totally lacking in our hotel room.We found the pictures on the hotel's website and also on booking.com misleading. The room looked very old, with colors and furniture you would normally find in a retirement home for the elderly. Not much light finding its way into the room also. The family rooms are on the attic floor. Arriving with a lot of luggage and a buggy for our baby ... that attic floor was the only floor in the hotel that you could not get to with the elevator. We had to carry buggy and luggage up by hand, the buggy each and every time we left to go to the city center. The hotel beds were awful. I am very lightweight and even I sank into the soft mattress. The price for the family room is way too much looking at what you get. We asked for a different room on a different floor, a non-family room. There was one available but after checking that one out we found that it was only smaller but breathing the exact same musty atmosphere. There's a definitely better value for money in Deventer's city center.

Review 107:Breakfast was good. Hotel personnel was friendly.

Review 108:we had a spot of bother with the outer (not the inner garden: that one is amazing) garden our bedroom overlooked. It was a mess. We made a complaint that was handled admirably.

Review 109:the building is ab-so-lu-te-ly gorgeous! And in in-building bar makes it a great place to stay.

Review 110:There was no door for the bathroom in the room we stayed in, the hotelis fully aware that previous guests (as well as us) have complained yetstill do nothing about it. Strange.

Review 111:Location is excellent, spotlessly clean, charming hotel

Review 112:The room was a little dark.

Review 113:Beautiful old building where the old details were kept in original state. Nice and friendly people. Close to train station, close to restaurants, close to city center.

Review 114:The room was up a dangerous flight of stairs. It was also very bare. Some effort could have been made to put some colour into it. Such ashame in such a lovely building. The mattress kept slipping during thenight. Wow just read the same thing on the review - so obvious really.

Review 115:Staff were friendly and service oriented. The location and design. Theroom was clean.

Review 116:I would like to see tea & coffee facilities in the rooms. On cold wet evenings it would be nice if the hotel served evening meals rather than having to weather the wind & rain to find somewhere to eat.

Review 117:the location, the staff are always very friendly and helpful.

Review 118:Historic nature of the building - characterful Friendly staff Excellent location in the old city of Deventer Excellent access to shops, restaurants, cafes Excellent access for purposes of my business visit Good wireless connection

Review 119:On entering the hotel, I was immediately captivated by the beauty of this old historic building: the carved woodwork, the wonderful stained-glass windows and the wide sweeping staircase leading to the upper floors. At check-in, the receptionist was friendly and helpful. I had booked to stay for seven nights, my case was heavy and therefore, on my request, I was shown to the lift. That staircase could wait for another day. My plastic key gained entrance to a single room ( I was travelling solo). My first reaction was one of disappointment. Not because of the size - it was spacious enough for one person - but it certainly could have benefited from some extra loving care. Some paint, another carpet and a couple of pictures would have made a vast improvement to the room. However, after my first night there, I can honestly say the bed was extremely comfortable, everything was spotlessly clean and I slept like a log. And this from someone who sleeps with difficulty! The bathroom was superb, extremely clean too, the shower worked wonderfullyand there were sufficient towels, etc. The next morning, I enjoyed the self-service breakfast in a very pleasant room - it also offered the possibility to eat outside on the balcony. Breakfast was excellent and provided an extensive choice, which was regularly replenished. On a couple of evenings during my stay, I made use of the bar. Again, this was a very pleasant room in which to enjoy a drink. Because the weather was balmy, it was also possible to have drinks served in the garden, another really nice spot in which to relax. As you can probably guess, I certainly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Gilde - and I had spent time at other hotels during my holiday in Holland, some more expensive, so I could make a comparison. My only request would be for the rooms to be updated, to be better decorated. Then it would be perfect. What more could you want?

Review 120:On arrival at breakfast at 9.35 no fresh eggs or bacon offered, only the old dry food in the hot dishes.

Review 121:Very friendly helpful service on Sunday arrival, help to the room with bags, kettle milk and extra pillows put in room upon request, good advice and help on car parking given. lovely calm hotel.

Review 122:I got to the hotel late so there was no staff. My bed barely fit me (and I am a small man), my television did not work, my light did not work, and the shower had no shower head, and the room was dirty. Not worth 75 Euros...It is a shame, because I must go to Deventer every year and there are not many hotels.

Review 123:Location is good, breakfast is ok

Review 124:All was fine, very slightly pricey compared with others in Holland

Review 125:Lovely old, historic building in which we had a very quiet room with aprivate balcony overlooking a courtyard garden. The breakfast wasincluded and was fine but the hotel was not the cheapest of the 3 westayed in in Holland. The location was very good and all in all it was avery good choice of hotel in Deventer

Review 126:"Free Internet" is kpn which is good but limited in time and number oflogins. If you mobile device is logging in and out to check emailautomatically this is a problem. As a general definition I would notexpect "Free Internet" to be either time or logins restricted.

Review 127:Comfortable rooms with friendly helpful staff. Good buffet breakfast.Excellent location for exploring Deventer on foot

Review 128:This hotel is in a good location needs major remodeling. Could be a gem if it wasn't so ignored. Very much a budget hotel. Would not stay again or recommend. I did like the one person who was the hotel staff. He went out of his way to help me.

Review 129:The room was very small, especially the bathroom. Very tacky all round.A beautiful building with so much potential to become a 5 star hotel. Shame!

Review 130:The beautiful building and the delicious breakfast.

The Fine Print

Please note that due to the fact that all of the rooms are different in size and design the photos may not accurately reflect all rooms.During shopping hours, cars are not allowed in the center of the city. The nearest parking facility is the Noorderbergpoort, which is a 3 minute walk from the hotel.
