Reviews for The Blue Orchid Resort

Review 1:For us (Dutch couple early 30-ies, 4 day stay) this was the perfect experience. The location is so quiet and remote, a 10min scooter drive from Panagsama beach. The room was very spacious and clean. The staff and management (Lisa and Bill) were super friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make sure we had an amazing time at Blue Orchid. The resort offers lots of activities: you can snorkel right in front of the resort, there is a dive school with trips, you can rent a scooter, do yoga, play tennis or just lounge by the pool or have a massage. The food (huge menu) was next level and reasonably priced! This place truly raises the bar for other hotels. The near Panagsama beach is nice for dining out and snorkeling with the sardines (just 20 meters from the beach). We were able to pay our bill through Paypal so no hassle with cash.

Review 2:The rooms missed coolers for water and fruits. Easily have had little more storage to get your belongings out of the way.

Review 3:The genuine and friendly athomsphare. Quietness and laid back approach. Location with fantastic reef and marine life. Good food to OK prices so no need to go other place to eat.

Review 4:- Suggest remark the extra 10% charge for room on booking page as other properties do.

Review 5:- Small but very nice garden, with the sea view. - Basic but clean room, with very comfortable bed. - Very very nice staffs!

Review 6:My husband and I were looking for a quiet getaway from our hectic work pace in Japan. From our room it was only a 3-minute stroll to get to the northern tip of White Beach. In the end, we spent most of our time snorkelling and enjoying the reef in front of the resort. Our room was on the second floor. Great ocean view. Nice hot water in the rooms with good water pressure. Such a pity that we didn't spend longer there but we had already decided our travel arrangements beforehand. This resort was so much better than the others that we stayed at, which is the only reason I am writing anything. My husband and I have already decided we will come back and spend a week there later in the year.

Review 7:I have been doing business in Cebu for the past 3 weeks and decided to take a few days off before returning to Mexico. I arrived on Saturday noon, and was taken by how quiet and peaceful this pretty little boutique hotel was. To be woken by the sound of birds, then for a quick breakfast, French Press coffee, and a swim in the pool was what I needed to start relaxing. No traffic sounds, loud music or crowds walking on the beach to disturb the tranquility. I went for a snorkel by just wading out from the shore. This area is world renown for its diving but to have it at your doorstep was amazing. A nap after lunch on a hammock overlooking the ocean and the island of Negros, while reading my book I am sure my blood pressure reduced another 20 points. I highly recommend this small resort if you want to de-stress. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and are genuinely pleased to serve you . The rooms are clean , spacious and air conditioned, all with ocean views. Food is good with a nice mix of both local and international dishes. Of course, the fresh fruit and drinks are as tropical as the hotel name implies. I give it a 10 and hope you publish my comments , so that others can find and enjoy this little piece of tranquility. I'll be back. Tony Mexico

Review 8:The location is far from "city"/vlllage. The rooms was a bit outdated - but the staff had theire attention here and it was under "construction"

Review 9:The view to the ocean is lovely and we enjoed the wonderfull sunset while getting a drink and massage. The the corals just outside the resort is great,Its a very peacfull place with nice and kind staff. Great pool.

Review 10:EVERYTHING has a prize but the management tries always to offer excellent service & quality for it.Easy access to nearby beach.

Review 11:Great and almost private location at the end of the beach and garanteed seaview balconies for each roomchoice. Most friendly local staff (24hrs) and very Professional European dive instructors. The restaurant=top !

Review 12:The resort was beautiful, high standards when compared to other resorts in cebu and Bohol! I loved the hammocks and beautiful scenery, we enjoyed our evenings sipping cocktails and looking at the stars. Very quiet localisation far from all the civilisation, around 20 minute tricycle ride so it was still reachable! Overall it was one of our most pleasant stays in the Philippines!

Review 13:I really enjoyed the place.. It's just beautiful.. Garden swimming pool and room excellent.. Only thing I was missing was access to sandy beach.. And no direct scuba diving.. Place is amazing.. Definitely worth to visit

Review 14:High price of some entertainments in the hotel price-list, e.g. Oslob whale sharks watching for our family would cost 16000PHP, but we hired a jeepney for a whole day transportation (2000PHP, actually just the same price as a taxi if you find it in Moalboal) and paid 4400PHP at the place for 4 pers. snorkelling, saved almost 10000PHP which is considerable sum for the Philippines. High price for vine and other spirits in restaurant, they have about 400-600% and even higher markup in compare with Moalboal's Mall. Which is rather greedy but inefficient cause the bar looses money selling less (many guests took it from the Mall). Local transportation is also a small problem, so you need to hire a tricycle every time you want to get to the town (or reach a bus stop). Much better is to rent a motorbike (for a price of 300-400PHP a day, same as tricycle ride to Moalboal and back), even you stay for a long time. WiFi is v-e-r-y s-l-o-w and doesn't work in rooms.

Review 15:Location inside untouched corner of Saavedra Marine Sanctuary is absolutely quiet, wild and unpopulated, as close to nature as it possible. 5 min walk to excellent Basdako (White beach). Paradise coral garden around all the peninsula and near the hotel too. Thorough design of the territory landscape, number of flowers and plants (without coconut palms!). Very friendly staff (salute to Lola, Abel, Madeline and Aisa). High quality of food and excellent taste in restaurant. Also we had daily delivery of local fruits for our kids from the market without any considerable margin, this made kids absolutely happy. Many interesting places around Moalboal (within 1-2 hours of motorcycle, bus or boat ride) to fill in 2-week stay: Tan-Awan (Oslob) whale sharks, number of waterfalls, caves, the millenum tree and Canlaon volcano on nearby Negros (take a ferry at Tangil, 14km north from Moalboal), Pescador Island (ask Dennis or his wife Juliet at Halemanna's beach nearby for 2500PHP amazing half-day boat trip). Comfortable bus transportation system around National Road around Cebu.

Review 16:high price for diving and renting scooter; definite need for insect repellents; no possibilties to leave resort since very remote. You have to call a tricicle or a scooter to get to a supermarket or in the town.

Review 17:remote, quite place; nice design of the overall resort with lots of shaded places; own pool facility; good quality of the food; own footbridge into the water for snorkeling and swimming.

Review 18:The room looked tired and needed updating. The shower didn't work properly, the hand basin was cracked and the toilet seat needed replacing.

Review 19:The resort is in a secluded location; it offers great diving and snorkelling; we had a great ocean view from our room; the staff were friendly and helpful; the outside dining area overlooking the ocean was delightful.

Review 20:The place is rather remote and besides diving, snorkeling, relaxing and hanging out on the beach, there is not much to do (there are not many bars and restaurants close by, which could be fine) unless you join an organized trip.

Review 21:The staff really makes this place. Both managers, but also all employees are super friendly and really do everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The food and drinks are of good quality and there are nice quiet places to relax. They have good coffee :)

Review 22:just that the silly cat jumped on my table and knocked my drink over...wasn't too happy about that...LOL

Review 23:great location off the beaten track..had a scooter so it wasn't a problem...nice staff, very scenic area

Review 24:Nothing

Review 25:Great location ,as close to earthly paradise. Snorkelling wonderful and near to White beach and if you just wanna walk and adventure like you're the only people around, this is ideal. Adam and Liz and staff are really helpful and knowledgeable. Lovely people.

Review 26:It is a little far from Moalboal centre but has everything you need on site.

Review 27:Liz and Adam were very helpful and had lots of local information. Food was yummy. Beach and path along the front of the property was beautiful.

Review 28:The resort had clearly changed ownership / management frequently in the recent past. The property was poorly looked after. Broken AC, unfinished room, water leaking through ceiling. 1-2 star hotel at 4 star prices!

Review 29:The location was nice. It was away from the tourist hustle and bustle of Moalboal proper.

Review 30:Bit of a trek from the main road or any shops.

Review 31:Friendly staff. We arrived late, after the kitchen was closed. The proprietor was kind enough to rustle up some excellent pasta dinner for us. Check out Esmarelda, the pet toucan. Nice secluded spot for a getaway.

Review 32:Wifi was weak, almost non-existent, which the managers contributed to the more than usual number of people at the resort. Managers are new and unfamiliar with a lot of things. Overpriced food, better to hop by other resorts' restaurants for meals.

Review 33:Though far, location was quiet and private as described. Great view of the ocean and sunset, especially for people who would like to snorkel. Tours tied up between resorts and third party tour providers were great!

Review 34:Wifi was only obtainable down at the breakfast area; but given the location, good wifi would have been impressive.

Review 35:Excellent activities to do. Boat dive instead of diving off shore as there is not too much to see on the local reef if you have dived before.

Review 36:Hotel is not easy to find, and the road is pretty bad. The hotel food was a bit overpriced and they don´t allow to bring any food or drinks from outside - probably because of that the room didn´t have a fridge, and overall the room is too average for the price

Review 37:The place looks really nice, and is really relaxing and quiet. The rooms are big and shower has warm water with high pressure

Review 38:-equipment and furniture is too bare-bone, like no comfortable chair to read a book, etc. on otherwise gorgeous balcony -the extra five percent service charge upon leaving on top of the already ten percent service charge (not mentioned beforehand) is totally misplaced considering the extremely basic service (and also causes inconvenience to the guest with no banks nearby)

Review 39:nice location for those seeking sanctuary in a clean part of the peninsula

Review 40:Request by management for a % based service tip. Because of the high range room price this was neither justified or needed. Complimentary water could be added for low cost benefit to overall impression

Review 41:The staff and service was great and the personal welcome and introduction appreciated rooms clean but basic while still very comfortable

Review 42:I wished there were more vegetarian options on the menu. Pene arrabiata should be either improved significantly or removed all together.

Review 43:Where to begin... When our driver dropped us off, we were right away greeted by the friendly stuff, settled in our room, provided with snorkel equipment and off we went to explore the stunning reef just outside the hotel. Every evening we enjoyed magnificent sunsets from different spots around the facilities. The hotel looks just like on the pictures. Rooms are clean and spacious. It has an incredibly friendly atmosphere, where guests, stuff and the owner (who happened to be there) mingle freely and enjoy great conversations. We went diving and snorkeling at various stunning dive spots (sardines, turtles...). 20 min ride to the closest bar area. A very relaxed stay. Definitely would come again. It takes 3 hours to get here from the airport, and it is worth it. Try the mango pancake. Delicious!

Review 44:We had no complaints. The only thing that we would improve would be to give the restaurant menu a bit more variety but we were told that actually this was being reviewed and changed by the managers in any case.

Review 45:The resort has a great house reef for snorkeling and is nice and peaceful. It's perfect for a romantic getaway. We loved it.

Review 46:The boy that cleaned our room missed cleaning and changing towels. But the staff fixed it when we told them.

Review 47:The reef outside Blue Orchid is fantastic. A huge variety of corals. Not that many big fishes, but tons of small ones. Many dive boats park outside the house reef and dive so it may well be the best around.

Review 48:I completed an Open Water Course in the resort and special thanks should be given to Matt for his kindness. He is a good teacher and don't miss anything for the requirement of the course. He is professional. Also I would like to say thank you to Shanon to accompany my daughter Charlotte and my wife for snorkelling activities during my diving course. The place is quiet, relaxing and the ocean (under the sea) is beautiful.

Review 49:no intercom system to communicate with resort staff or other members of our group no TV

Review 50:large spacious, clean rooms

Review 51:I love the view of sunset from Blue Orchid

Review 52:everything was beyond our expectations

Review 53:Overall atmosphere, private, hyperfriendly staff and management

Review 54:Exceptionally friendly and helpful at a beautiful location

Review 55:Fabulous welcome, attentive service, relaxing environment, delicious food, great coral and sea life. Whole family well catered for.

Review 56:From the warms smiles on arrival to the sad tearful good byes, everything was perfect. As MacArthur said "I shall return"

Review 57:Great hospitality

Review 58:Everything.

Review 59:Coming home

Review 60:the staff were great

Review 61:Quiet, relaxing, beautiful landscaping, garden. Superb snorkeling from the shore.

Review 62:The beach is not swimmable.

Review 63:Wifi but it did work and it is the pinnes.

Review 64:Excellent staff, it's a relaxing resort and food is freshly prepared and great value.

Review 65:No fridge , no tv , no wifi in room

Review 66:Staff and clean

Review 67:everything ;)

Review 68:No credit cards, unreliable wifi

Review 69:Views, friendly & informative staff

Review 70:Some times water near hotel is very dirty (a lot of garbage like plastic bags, bottles, etc.) but this is problem of all Moalboal.

Review 71:All is good

Review 72:terrible road to there 9 hours without electricity and water in the whole area

Review 73:Very nice stuff familiar resort like paradise

Review 74:A long way from civilisation.

Review 75:A long way from civilisation. Turtles in the sea and a beautiful coral reef.

Review 76:Staff, Wide menu choice Clean rooms Diving

Review 77:Not much of a beach.

Review 78:Quiet. Good access to snorkeling and diving. Good food at reasonable prices.

Review 79:A bit far from town

Review 80:Privacy Snorkeling

Review 81:The Blue Orchid was fantastic. Melissa was friendly and any questions/needs we had were answered and taken care of instantly. The food was fantastic, and the rooms large. The fact that it's an ocean-front resort is even better. I'd stay here in the future, most certainly.

Review 82:Small size resort with great service at beautiful location for relaxation. Excellent food with everything fresh and made for you order. Managment is very friendly and helpful and creates a family feel like atmosfer. Love this place and looking forfard to come back.

Review 83:Access from Cebu airport (nearly three-hour drive) .

Review 84:Close to dive sites. Excellent house reaf for snorkelling. Helpful staff of the dive shop and flexible arrangements of boat trips. Away from the town, quite location.

Review 85:Distance from nearest town, but overcome by local taxi. Not taking credit card payments

Review 86:The staff are amazing, you feel like you are staying with friends. Nothing is too much trouble. Extremely relaxing environment . The food is very good. Also I was surprised by lack of Mosquitos. Diving is very good.

Review 87:The Blue Orchid was lovely! The food was amazing and very inexpensive. The manager is brilliant, she organised anything we needed (even atquite late notice sometimes) tours, dinners, adventures, transfers. Theresort is clean, relaxed, friendly and you can swim, snorkel and divestraight out from it. It is located a little was out of town which makesit very peaceful. The staff are all great too.

Review 88:small resort, rooms were not as comfortable as expected and a bit far from everything

Review 89:Beautiful location, excellent house reef, good quality diving, owners and staff very friendly and professional

Review 90:down side of having such a good coral reef was no beach right outside

Review 91:The people and location. A very homely relaxed atmosphere. The reef is stunning if your a good swimmer you can get out to it and see loads of animals big and small. Would of liked to of done my advanced open water with them as they offer all sorts of diving options, but my money only went so far.

Review 92:no beachfront, the tide is always high not ideal for those who can't dive or swim

Review 93:the place is peaceful and quiet, ideal for people seeking as escape from a busy citylife

Review 94:Bit far from everything else, bit expensive for quality and comfort of the rooms

Review 95:Nice resort, clean, beautiful surrounding, great and professional diving

Review 96:Our only "problem" was that it took 3 hours to get there from the airport. But it worth the time :-)

Review 97:The owner and the whole staff were very friendy.:-) The beach is beautiful there! The food and drinks they served were also delicious.

Review 98:We stayed for 6 days at the end of January and had a wonderful holiday. The staff were great and could not have been more helpful. We ate allour meals at the resort - there was a good choice, it was alwaysperfectly cooked and was excellent value.Lovely fruit shakes andcocktails. The pool was good and the snorkelling excellent withbeautiful coral and fish very close to the resort. John and Pauline -Milford on Sea, uk.

Review 99:Quiet location with very nice landscaped garden. Great service overall, special mention for Dino who was very professional instructor. My wife had a great first discovery dive.

Review 100:Staff, location, people, food, room, setting, atmosphere, diving (especially with Dino as the instructot), pool - ALL AMAZING - we loved our stay at the Blue Orchid Resort.

Review 101:Noisy plumbing from rooms upstairs.

Review 102:The resort is at the far end of White Beach and is a bit isolated. There is no beach but a nice area overlooking the sea where you can relax and sunbathe. There are great views from rooms and grounds. Pool is great. Its easy to walk the rock pools along to beaches at low tide and tricycle transfers to town or other resorts are easy to arrange. Snorkelling, diving, swimming, relaxing - this is what Blue Orchid is about. There is also a new tennis court. Food available was pretty good, lots of drinks available, the outdoor dining area is lovely. This isn't a resort for kids but the ones i saw seemed to having a good time-despite noTV or other kids activities. WIFI was pretty consistent in most areas but not in rooms.

Review 103:What to say about this pearl in the rocks in front of the Ocean? Great hospitality, fresh food, private beaches, several activities, exotic birds and above all unparalleled staff. Everything at very convenient rates. Melissa and the staff were extremely kind and helpful. They even offered us an utility room when they were full house and we couldn't manage to book elsewhere, while a Typhoon was coming. It turned out to be a very spiritual and romantic experience, possibly the best night of our vacation. The Blue Orchid Resort is pure life as it should be when you are in vacation.

Review 104:All staff were very friendly and helpful, and caring. They were informative and attentive. The design of the premises is beautiful, and the whole resort has a quiet charm.

Review 105:The coffee...They really need a coffee machine.

Review 106:The staff were really friendly and made the trip even better. The resort is really secluded and is a great place to relax and unwind. The banana pancakes for breakfast are a must.

Review 107:I loved everything.

Review 108:The staff was SO laid back and helpful and friendly. We were just so comfortable there. I also loved the location at the end of the row of resorts. I felt near enough to activities, but also perfectly secluded.

Review 109:There is no critical negative point, but I think more introductions or explanations on activities will be helpful. For example, Kawsan canyoning is not available everyday and needed to be reserved in advance.

Review 110:-Very relaxing place. All staffs were very friendly. -Foods were good. Mango Juice was yummy. -It was good that the area was not overdeveloped so much. -Snorkeling at the demote island (Pescador) was so fantastic!

Review 111:- no TV in the room. Never seen this for a long time - No fridge in the room. This is not accepatbel in the Philippines in particular if the bar closes at 8pm and all you can drink is warm water from the tip - room dor doesnt lock properly although the GM was aware of it. Bathroom facilities (sinks)did not work properly

Review 112:the park of the neighbour hotel

Review 113:Price is to high for value. Its very basic and standard. Snorkling gear is old and broken. A few poor sunbeds and table tennis is all there is really. If you are looking for a buzz in low season there is definitely not much going on in the area.

Review 114:If you like diving its suppose to be a great spot. As well for snorkling. There is a nice reef very close! Room is clean and covers the basic needs.

Review 115:A fan that worked all night would be good but considering the rest of the resort, a minor inconvenience.

Review 116:Really friendly atmosphere with excellent staff. Just ask and it could be arranged, such a boat for snorkelling with turtles, a trip to the whale sharks or just a massage.

Review 117:Nothing bad to say.

Review 118:The Blue Orchid Resort is a hidden piece of heaven. Located a distance away from busy market and resort neighborhood, it's an oasis of relaxation and privacy. A true Eden.

Review 119:Maybe just the cloudy weather. And the charge for ice.

Review 120:Nice layout. On the ocean. Steps to the beach. Peace, serene, tranquility. Cooler provided. Didn't need fridge.

Review 121:my stay was too short... Maybe a bit secluded, no bars around or things to do in the evening -> need a 30min tricycle ride, or hang out with the staff when they hit the bars :)

Review 122:The staff was really friendly, felt like meeting a bunch of Friends! The snorkling right in front good value for money

Review 123:It is a bit out the way, it takes some time to travel to the best local restaurants. About 25 minutes on a tricycle.

Review 124:The resort has an excellent "house reef"directly out the front of the resort which is great for diving or snorkelling. The reef runs all the way along and around the point so you can find flat water if it is windy. The resort has all the snorkelling or dive gear you need and can be hired at a reasonable price. Great place for relaxing and snorkelling.

Review 125:Nothing really. If you don´t expect a five star exclusive resort you will not be disappointed.

Review 126:Managers Mark and Judith with the owner Michael and all the Filipino staff made us feel very welcome. All the staff were very helpful with all our problems and issues. The rooms are big enough with a double bed and an optional extra bed. Not luxurious, but clean and tidy. Breakfast and all those meals we ate at the Blue Orchid was good and well prepared. Blue Orchid is on a beautiful location right on a coral reef. Just go straight out with equipment for diving or snorkeling. The sandy beach is a 25-30 meters walk down the waterside, but there is a man-made sandy terasse with sunchairs by the sea. Good and affordable massage.
