Reviews for Quinta Alto São João
Review 1:Nothing special to say. Not so easy to find but that's the part of the folklore in Madeira!
Review 2:Excellent localisation, beautiful view, calm, splendid Quinta with spacious rooms, swimming pool and visit the garden! Finally, very nice and welcoming people
Review 3:If you want peaceful holiday with absolutely stunning views, if you are confident driver or do not mind walking long distances to beach and shops/restaurants, go for it! It is amazing place for relax!
Review 4:The property have seen better times before but probably it could be regarded as a part of special atmosphere and history. A bit complicated but manageable way to find. The only true "didn't like" is caused by giving us a small double room instead of superior that I had paid for and explanation that the booked room is occupied but anyway we have a little balcony. Not those some euros spent for nothing are the matter...
Review 5:Big nice old building, farming properties around, singing birds and garden - lovely local atmosphere. Good willing and care of guests personal needs - thank you again for birthday celebration.
Review 6:Breakfast is rather basic, could be improved by a bit more choice.
Review 7:The views, the quietness of the surrounding area, the size of the bedroom and loungerooms, the friendly staff... lovely place to stay.
Review 8:Free wifi did not work for us (worked for others)
Review 9:Location, view, house, all beautiful Very quiet Large room, bath Friendly and helpful stuff Good breakfast
Review 10:Absolutely nothing. I cannot think of anything that could be improved.
Review 11:Very beautiful Quinta, perfectly restored in original style (like a movie setting), full breakfast buffet, great views, big common sitting and living room with fire, clean swimming pool, lush garden. Everything, it's a paradise. Wish I had stayed here longer to enjoy the atmosphere more. We found the Quinta easily: just follow the signs to Sâo Joâo and afterwards to Alto Sâo Joâo and keep going up this road until you have the sign to the Quinta on your right.
Review 12:3 glass broken on our window Noisy window when there is wind Only one blanket for two No cafe at the breakfast No bath possible Hot water very very long to come Not recommanded
Review 13:I had seen that the Quinta was set some way out of the village so this was a choice, not a problem, and easily and inexpensively solved with a local taxi.
Review 14:The helpful staff, quiet surroundings and a unique atmosphere
Review 15:The bathroom was very cold and nit possible to heat up
Review 16:The feeeling of living in a mansion, its huge, sauna and the pool, the view, ...
Review 17:Tranquility and breakfast with biological fruits from the house.
Review 18:Super friendly, awesome breakfast buffet, beautiful house, garden and rooms and cheap on top of it!
Review 19:Nothing

Review 21:WiFi is available only close to the reception. No Internet in rooms.
Review 22:Location is perfect if you don't afraid steep roads
Review 23:No wi-fi in rooms. Small beds. Tiny bathrooms.
Review 24:Location and views
Review 25:Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Great room and pool facilities.
Review 26:Whole concept of this 'Quinta'! Really great place for relaxing holiday. Friendly and helpful staff. Our best accommodation in Madeira ever.
Review 27:The staff are friendly and helpful.
Review 28:Long distance from hotel to nearest civilization. No restaurant in the hotel.
Review 29:Juice and coffee from machine.
Review 30:Total concept of the house. Very friendly personnel.
Review 31:Not sufficient water pressure in bathroom. May be given by the fact, that very nice builging is from 19th Century.
Review 32:Very friendly and willing staff
Review 33:Friendly staff, rural location, nice view
Review 34:Got there late on day arrival..was hungry so we used the restaurant inhotel...But was overly charged for a meal which wasnt very nice fishfingers cold pasta...
Review 35:Fantastcac location. ..Comfortable hotel staff friendly....cant faultthe hotel so peaceful...
Review 36:I've visited 7 rural hotels (Quintas) around Madeira in 2 weeks. Quinta do Alto de Sao Joao is the best one I've seen so far, regarding the price/quality ratio. 9.9/10
Review 37:Food on offer is cheap but very basic. Do not stay there unless you have a hire car, it is 500 metres above and 5 km from village.
Review 38:Attractive old house with good views.
Review 39:Fabulous place way up above Ponto do Sol. The country house is nicelydecorated in all the public rooms. All the staff I met were friendly andhelpful. The views are great, the food is great and it's a perfectrural idyll away from the island's noisy capital. There's a mini-market and snack bar doing regional food less than 10 metres away forunder 10 Euros.
Review 40:Very difficult to find, I think the adress is wrong. Small rooms, extremly small beds. Is this really a 4:star hotel? Thin walls so you could hear everything throu the walls.
Review 41:food was very basic and variation would have inproved our stay as we were full board, and extra charges for breakfast thought unfair as 1euro for boiled egg to much
Review 42:very peacefull location ok for relaxing holiday
Review 43:- 2 ladies have to run the whole place - no real reception (keys on desk regularly) also no bar - poor maintenance (wood rotten in many places) - Internet "just out of order" same story everybody gets we didn;t have internet for the whole 5 nights stay, television didn't work either - owner came in also didn't fix anything - charging credit card immediately happened not only to us - compensation for immediate credit card charging not known to staff Part of star ranking based on services that are not available.
Review 44:Very nice looking old building very clean
Review 45:Only downside was the evening meal as we had to choose at breakfast whether we wanted fish or meal - only 2 choices. The reason for this was explained to us. Also no bar facilities.
Review 46:Location was lovely but quite difficult to find at the beginning. Our room was extremely comfortable and bathroom no end of hot water. Everything spotless. Especial thanks would go to the employee called Graciela who was more than helpful. Also very good bar virtually next door!!
Review 47:very unfriendly English manager avoid at all costs ! seems to be money driven , not customer satisfaction driven !! will not come back
Review 48:Food at the restaurant.. No pool..
Review 49:The quiet area.
Review 50:Wi-fi only in lobby, a bit hard to find for the first time even with navigator.
Review 51:Very pleasant and attentive staff, nice location with a gorgeous view.
