Reviews for Miyajima Guest House Mikuniya
Review 1:nothing
Review 2:I'd definitely stay at Mikuniya again the next time I visit Miyajima. The owner was very kind - he offered me a a free upgrade from a dorm room to a private room as I came during a low season! There is nothing I can complain about, as: Location: 10-15 mins walking distance from the great Torii gate and Itsukushima shrine. Convenience: multiple shower rooms and toilets; free instant noodles and basic drinks (juice, milk, etc.) Comfort: Traditional futon bed (I love it!) & the AC/hearter works well. @Terazawa-san: Thank you for having me :) Anh

Review 4:we were made so welcome. The bedrooms were large with a sitting area looking over the water. Coffee machines upstairs also in kitchen where breakfast was available. 2 bathrooms with Japanese bath. We were given bikes for us to use. Very quiet area nice walk to streets. Wonderful people running the B & B
Review 5:The only issue with the room was that it was quite cold. The house is a bit far from the ferry terminal.
Review 6:The owner of this house was really nice and helpful. The room was a japanese traditional-style room, quite large and well-decorated. There is a large common room with a lot of equipments and a traditionnal japanese bath. The breakfast options were simple, but good. I eagerly recommand this place.
Review 7:Miyajima Guesthouse is a great place for solo travellers to meet and share stories. The guesthouse is a little bit away from the main drag of Miyajima, that's part of the appeal. It has a well stocked communal kitchen with an honesty system for beer, onokomiyaki and the like.
Review 8:The only down side was that unlike most Ryokans, you are required to make up your futons yourself. For us that was not a major concern as we have long experience in Japan, however to someone meeting an unmade futon for the first time, this could prove to be a bit of a downer.
Review 9:The owner and his staff were extremely friendly courteous and helpful. We were met at the door and provided a complete brief on the guest house, its facilities and good suggestions on where we should visit on Miyajima as well as which restaurants were open after hours during the week. The later information is quite important as though Miyajima is a bustling tourist town during the day, after the tourists go home, the many food stalls and restaurants also shut up shop. The Miyajima Guest House not only advised us on good places to go but gave a map as well directing us to them. Miyajima town is quite old and though small, its streets have a maze like quality. The room was a good size and was immaculate in cleanliness and presentation. Also, breakfast is included, though guests do have to make it them selves from the ample supplies in the communal kitchen. Included was bread, fruit, cereal, tea coffee, milk, juice. There is also an after hours honesty box for beer and frozen dinners. Very much appreciated. There is also a communal lounge that is well appointed with sofas, musical instruments, TV and a range of traditional Japanese toys and a great supply of origami paper and instructions.
Review 10:A relaxed, informal ryokan with great common areas and family friendly activities. Welcoming staff who helped with our itinerary on the island. Highly recommended at this price.
Review 11:Nothing that I can remind of
Review 12:Incredibly gentle staff; I had never seen something like this before; they spend about 15 minutes to welcome every guest and explain everything you'll need! Excellent facilities: you have to enjoy the japanese bathtub! Nice common area with great views to a beautiful courtyard garden Great value for money!
Review 13:Staff are fantastic, it is family run and super friendly. The dorm room was very private with only 3 beds in the room. Breakfast food and snacks are an awesome inclusion, and the common area is full of interesting things to do.
Review 14:Nothing really - it was all you could want for a guest house with shared facilities.
Review 15:We got a warm welcome and lots of information about the local area and the facilities in the guest house. Our room was delightful with a view, close to the bath room and a big window to look out over the garden.
Review 16:Some guests wore their room slippers into the bathroom. (Not the fault of the guest house). Seemed like the Japanese bath was always being used.
Review 17:Staff (the son) was amazingly kind and helpful. Overall a great stay and value for the area.
Review 18:The highlight of my trip. The guest house is quintessentially Japanese; traditional yet modern. Junya was amazing, the people were great, the Japanese courtyard was charming. I would love to stay there again.
Review 19:Traveling with 4 children (15 to 10) and my husband. We had two rooms next to each other, at the end of a quiet corridor. Junior met us, showed us through the house, gave my 13yo son a birthday gift and made paper cranes with the girls. Kitchen facilities and breakfast food (and frozen okanamiyaki for purchase) were fantastic.
Review 20:It was a bit of a walk from the port station but I personally did not mind it too much. :)
Review 21:Everything! The host was very accommodating and helpful; the guesthouse was beautiful and homey; and loved that they have food and drinks available for consumption (others need to be paid for but that was fine and fair).
Review 22:Nothing. It was just lovely!
Review 23:We absolutely loved staying here. With such lovely owners, beautiful views of the garden, mountains, and ocean with quick access to the main pier by foot - did I forget to mention how clean and lovely the the Japanese traditional rooms are? You won't be disappointed. We loved it here and wish we stayed two nights!
Review 24:This place is new so I had the whole dormitory for myself. It is so clean that you can eat from the floor. Bunk beds are spacious, well lit. Small breakfast included. Common place is actually a bar where they play nice jazz. Easy to find, close to Asakusa.
Review 25:Nothing. Just wished we could stay another night.
Review 26:Friendly and helpful staff. Homey comfort. Thoughtful common area with music, art & craft, book etc corner. Stocked kitchen with food for guests' use.
Review 27:Super friendly owners! We had a very pleasant stay (2 nights). The rooms are very comfortable. Every need was met and our expectations were exceeded. Excellent Guest House. The free breakfast had a good variety. Very recommendable for a stay at Miyajima.
Review 28:Mikuniya is a wonderful place to stay at. All the facilities are clean and the decor is thoroughly Japanese. Our hosts were lovely, giving us tips on what to check out on the island, and providing us with pocket warmers since it was cold on the day. By far the most pleasant stay I have had in my travels.
Review 29:The staff were super kind, gave us recommendations of where to eat and what to see. The room was spacious with a nice view on the little garden. Well located.
Review 30:Nothing, it was all wonderful
Review 31:This is such a wonderful guesthouse and excellent value. Extremely comfortable, as the owner has thought of every little detail. It felt like staying in someone's home, with musical instruments, origami and calligraphy all available to try. The staff were incredibly welcoming. The weather was very cold on the day I left, so the kind owner even gave me a little hand warmer for my journey! So thoughtful. Definitely stay here for at least two nights if you can.
Review 32:Shared bath a bit cold
Review 33:Authentic japanese bed & brekfast. Nice japanese style rooms some of them with sea view. Very near to the main attracions, but quiet street. English speaking Owner gives all necessary information
Review 34:We booked for one night. We asked if we could stay another night. Unfortunately this was not possible. We loved the island and the accommodation so much. Be more sensible than us and book for more than one night!
Review 35:Excellent ryokan with an excellent host. The room was beautiful, clean and perfect. Miyajima is beautiful
Review 36:Guesthouse is in a fabulous location on the main Street. It has a wonderful ambience as soon as you step into the place and the whole place has a ryokan feel. Owner / Manager speaks excellent English. Futon was very comfortable and doona and blankets were very cosy.
Review 37:I loved everything about the place - the position on a hill with a beautiful view through an amazing garden (there was a deer grazing one morning - a fairy tale come true!), the breakfast, coffee and tea and snacks provided as well as all the information given by the staff. Preparing own our bed was a lot of fun and the little sitting area with the view was just great.
Review 38:a little far away from the Pier, and the road to the guest house is a little difficult to walk with a big luggage especially when it's raining ^^" however u can take the taxi(700 yen maybe) .
Review 39:It is the best guest house i've ever stayed so far! the place is full of Japanese style, the bedroom perfect! i slept two nights so sweet there.very clean n neat .The Host decorated the house very delicately, the yard, the livingroom, the corner. when i left, the host even gave me a gift which was Japan traditional color paper fold into origami crane. It made me warm. ^_^
Review 40:Friendly and informative host, very well equipped kitchen including free snacks and soft drinks, free laundry. Everything was perfectly organised and the house was beautifully arranged. It was a pleasure to have stayed there!
Review 41:We loved this place! Clean and welcoming and great value for money! Complementary milk, juice, toast, cereal etc. in the kitchen. Nice Japanese room with a beautiful view! Would recommend anyone to stay here!
Review 42:The fact we had to leave.
Review 43:The best guesthouse we have stayed in Japan. A wonderful room with a view. The owner has put many of his own treasures in the guesthouse which makes for an interesting stay. Also included was a free breakfast, the opportunity to learn origami and calligraphy.
Review 44:It's kind of far from the Pier. I had to carry my luggage all the way which for around 20 minutes.
Review 45:Great place. One of the best hostel i have ever been. Traditional style japanese. All the facilities are fantastic with complementary food.
Review 46:This was the perfect place to stay at Miyajima. We had a wonderful stay and a warm welcome ! The room was excellent and our hosts very helpful and so nice :)
Review 47:I liked everything, it was like staying in an ancient japanese house and the owner was very nice. They had free breakfast since there are not convenience stores at the island and they also had japanese games for us.
Review 48:We stayed just one night but we loved it, the place is beautiful, the service was excellent, the location, the views, everything! Thank you very much!
Review 49:The owner of the guest house is super organised and friendly. Just because of him I would already recommend this place. Clean place, good kitchen. No onsen but there is one in a hotel across the road.
Review 50:Authentic place. The host was extremely kind and spoke English. You can get a bike for the day for free (subject to availability). Breakfast is good and there are snacks available to buy cheaply. Great common chillout area.
Review 51:That I could only stay 1 night!
Review 52:Everything! The place is super nice! Clean and feels like home! The view from the rooms is amazing. Facilities are perfect. There even is breakfast you can have for free because there is no supermarket on the island! Also, the host is very kind! This is the place to stay on this beautiful island!
Review 53:The best guesthouse we came across. Good comfy beds and the entire guesthouse is so clean and uniquely designed. Breakfast is provided and there are laundry facilities. The hosts are so polite and helpful. Can't get enough of the great Japanese hospitality. There's a big living area to chill out. And we even got a souvenir when we left! It's not the easiest to find, but it's worth it. Some instructions in English would be helpful. But I would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.
Review 54:Check-in process could have been simpler. There were several guests waiting to check in, and each one was checked in and given a tour of the guesthouse separately. This created a long wait which could have been avoided had everyone been given the welcome speech and tour at the same time.
Review 55:Guesthouse provided teas, coffees, and various breakfast items. Guesthouse was centrally located in Miyajima, and staff provided map and sightseeing recommendations.
Review 56:Nothing, everything was great,
Review 57:It was a total Jaanese experience, much better than the temple experience we had afterwards in Koya San. The host gave us great advice on what to do and where to go and was the charmest of hosts, wonderful person.
Review 58:The staff is incredibly nice, taking time to give plenty of advice on all the sights on Miyajima. Also, they provide free breakfast, towels, tea, coffee and a fridge full of free drinks (even soda). The large living room looks out onto a nice garden. It is a 15-min walk from the ferry port. Although Miyajima gets really quiet at night, the owners give you a map with restaurants that stay open.
Review 59:Fabulous location, Miyajima needs to be on any Japan itinerary, and the owner and staff are wonderful. It was very comfortable, exceptionally clean and the owner & staff couldn't have been more helpful. I just wish we could've stayed longer. Highly recommend.
Review 60:Loved the traditional style of the house. It's beautiful and relaxing. The owner is nice and polite. During my stay there were only a few people staying, so there was very little interaction with other hosts, but the good point is that I got to use the shared room by myself. Breakfast is very good, continental style.
Review 61:I realy enjoy staying 4 nites in the japaneese dorm. The house is beautiful, quiet and owners lovely. An unforgattable experience !! Thank you so much. ps: If you wake up early you can see the deer in the garden..
Review 62:Nothing, it was the nicest place I've stayed in so far in Japan.
Review 63:This guesthouse is a real gem! In a perfect location, the owner was lovely and so helpful and also its really affordable. In the morning there were deer grazing in the garden and there was free breakfast and beverages. I couldn't have asked for more.
Review 64:shared bathroom.
Review 65:The owner of Miyajima Guest House, Mr Terazawa, was the most homely & welcoming host we have ever come across in our more than more than 30 years of traveling experiences. From start to finish, he took care of us. It was raining on our departure; he gave us an umbrella to keep us dry when he noticed that we only had one small umbrella and even offered to take us to the ferry when our taxi was late.
Review 66:The traditional beds and onsen were wonderful. The host was very welcoming and offered us a great variety about the island, activities, restaurants, etc. Free breakfast and noodles and well as free laundry. This place is amazing, I wish I could have stayed a week.
Review 67:Perfect to relax, quiet and very clean, there is food for breakfast (not usual in JP) and you can conveniently buy food and drinks if you don't want to go out in the evening. The dorm only has 3 beds, so it is very comfortable. Location is great too, walking distance from everything but quiet area. So many lovely details making this guesthouse the most charming place to stay.
Review 68:Not many restaurants open in the evening but we did find one thanks to our hosts who gave us a map listing them.
Review 69:Lovely Ryokan. Our Japanese room was fairly spacious so we were pleasantly surprised as it was our first time in one. There was a communal area with information books, music, computer. Kettle for tea/coffee in a small area. Friendly hosts.
Review 70:It would be nice if guests without sense for others, especially not taking care about noise in the night, stay somewhere else.
Review 71:The host is really nice, surely one of the most friendly i ever meet. The house has a very relaxing atmosphere. In my opinion you should stay at least 2 nights.
Review 72:Nothing at all
Review 73:Staff = Amazing. The guy who was looking after the place when we were there was simply amazing at his work. He was Courteous + Clear in his work and took the service definition to next level. He helped us plan our mount misen hike route and also helped with torch for our morning hike. Place: excellent. Near to ferry port and also near to Daisho temple (most famous temple at Miyagima) Cost: Absolute value for money. Such amazing well maintained place at such price with free breakfast and snacks through out the day is something rare to find.
Review 74:The location is way too far from the Miyajima Ferry Terminal. It took us about 30 minutes to walk to the guesthouse with our luggages.
Review 75:Owner is nice. Free breakfast, good selection of bread and instant noodle.
Review 76:The staff was tremendously kind. Nowhere have I seen lodging with so many resources for it's guests. Pamphlets, maps--you name it--the guest house had it!
Review 77:I had only planned to stay one night
Review 78:This place is truly awesome. It felt as if I had been invited into someone's home. The lounge with a range of Japanese toys and games to play - including learning to make origami cranes. Drinks and snacks. "No meals" but breakfast is available -help yourself to what is there. In recognition of early closing on the island, you can purchase (very reasonably priced) food to prepare. Great wifi. And the host -a true gem.
Review 79:Very nice people and made us feel very like at home. Wonderful place in a wonderful island. Kitchen is provided with some food available to cook breakfast and dinner. Would love to go back!
Review 80:This place has everything you need and more. On check in we were taken through all of the building and shown where all the free breakfast/coffee/tea/juice etc is and the laundry/kitchen and all the goodies you can buy and pay for in the honesty box. The room was so nice overlooking the garden with the occasional deer in it!
Review 81:Everything was wonderful! Great and super nice staff, beautiful and comfortable Japanese style room, good location. Great sento that you could close to have a private bath with your partner! A lot of amenities, great kitchen... Fabulous!
Review 82:This place was much higher than my expectations. Everything so beautiful. Now I want to have a house like this one, in japanese style:) Location is also great.
Review 83:I wish we could eat there, it would have been even better... but that's totally fine, there're plenty of nice restaurant close by anyway! Maybe could have nicer lightings in the main lobby, the light was bit to bright neon style
Review 84:The house is great, nice little garden, dormitory room with some privy area, super super comfy Japanese bed, the owner is so nice too! It was an absolute blast! Everything was good!
Review 85:Very kind and helpful staff, comfortable and beautiful interior, nice family atmosphere, astonishing view. The best guest house we've been in Japan.
Review 86:Not really the place to party, but if you are looking for that, you don't want to go to Miyajima anyway.
Review 87:Very very kind host who truly cares about his guests and even speaks english. Breakfast is free and there's plenty of different things to choose from! Also, there's a large common room with computers that can be used for free, books, a guitar, and so on. The very beautiful guesthouse feels like a ryoukan.
Review 88:Comfortable and relaxing place in a small town. The owner is very friendly and helpful. It`s not a party place, but then Miyajima`s not a party island! On my last morning I saw a deer in the garden while I was smoking. It`s that kind of place.
Review 89:Traditional Japanese beds were comfortable and clean. The owner and his son were very accommodating to every travel/tourist question that we had. Washer/dryer on premises were efficient.
Review 90:100% style Japanese hotel managed by a very nice Japanese family! Your room is 100% Japanese with tatami and futon. A "shared" private onsen (shared for all guests, private when you lock it up with your partner/wife/etc :-))). Fridge on the room, but there is a fully featured shared kitchen!
Review 91:The best place in Miyajima. We spent a wonderful time at Mikuniya Guest House. I strongly recommend booking this lovely place with enough time, it's worth it.
Review 92:The only thing I didn't like is the dorm was mixed and there was a man in mine who slept in his underwear (speedo like) and walked around the room and house like that. I think dorms should be separated by gender to avoid this and guests should receive instructions on proper wear when sharing the room. If it wasn't for another woman who was staying in the same room, I would not have felt safe enough to sleep in that room.
Review 93:The place is really close to the gate and major shrine which is a plus and it has all the amenities you need.
Review 94:Everything was exceptional. I just didn´t like having to go from there!
Review 95:Everyone in Japan is nice and friendly but the guys in this guest house are superb!! Such nice people.. on top of that the facilities, the atmosphere, everything incredible. They provide you with free breakfast, very cheap food and drink, and a lot of services you can´t expect beforehand.
Review 96:everything was perfect.
Review 97:A month travelling trough Japan, and definitely the best place I've stayed in. staff CHARMING, there to suggest visits + tips for cheap food / best visit timings etc. beautiful bedrooms, everything you need is available (laundry machine, computer, great equiped kitchen, nice living room). great view on the sea. there's so much more to say but i'll stop there, you have to see it by yourself :)
Review 99:Nothing.
Review 100:It is a perfect place to stay. It is a traditional Japanese house. The house is perfect. There is a beautiful kitchen where you can find a lot of free stuff. This place is just perfect.
Review 101:No problems, really!
Review 102:Traditional Japanese Ryokan, but on a better side. Nicely appointed room, spacious and with beautiful views. Wonderful hosts and well equipped kitchen with amenities and some good choice of free snacks and drinks (and inexpensive beer in the fridge). Good baths, but also in th eneighbouring hotel a very nice traditional Japanese sento public bath), just for 500 yen.
Review 103:Although the bathrooms are shared, our stay in Mikuniya was very confortable. You are given free access to a kitchen were you can cook and take take food from the fridge for free. The room was beautiful and the staff was very kind.
Review 104:This is such a nice guesthouse! So much love in Decoration andarrangement, the statt is very nice and tell you a lot about miyajimaand Japan if you want to know. The rooms are big for japanese Standards. If you have sleeped for 3 Werke only in 8-bed dorms, this is likewellness holiday! I really recommend this place!! Also you have a pianoand guitar in a biiig livng room, and a Zuge Computer/TV
Review 105:Good location, close to the main sights. Great experience of a real Japanese home with a nice view over the bay. Kitchen equipped with snacks available for the guests. I will definitely choose the same place if I am back on the island.
Review 106:We love everything about Miyajima Guesthouse Mikuniya. The futon beds were very comfortable. We love the free coffee. There's free breakfast, too but since we want to try out Miyajima's delicacies and cuisine we ate out. The room was so spacious for my husband, son and I and we loved the balcony where we had coffee with Miyajima in view. We stayed there for 2 nights and it turned to be a great decision! Miyajima is magical at night and strolling free and easy is the way to go. Masaharu-San is very kind, and so is his son. They even gave us souvenirs and momijimanju :) my son adored Miku, too!
Review 107:The host is amazing. communal areas are everything you could want, nice kitchen foods. Bed making experience was terrific, much better than what my friends experienced elsewhere!
Review 108:This is not just any hotel. It's the most hospitable, stylish, genuine and peaceful hotel I ever been too. The owner and his son are doing anything they can to make you feel at home and they succeed in it. You can fix yourself something to eat in the clean kitchen while listening to Bach or relax in front of a Miyazakimovie on the wide screen.
