Reviews for Hotel Talisman

Review 1:We stayed in 2 rooms, the first one had a very nice view, but was small. The second one was big, as the one on the photos of the site, nut no view (only a wall). The swimmingpool is only external, and the gym is very small.

Review 2:The breakfast was good, and a position of the hotel as well. Staff was kind.

Review 3:The only negative, they forgot to order the taxi to pick us up at the airport.

Review 4:The staff were excellent, very attentive and alert to helping the guests. The location was spot on, a 5 minute walk into town and a 10 euro taxi ride to the airport

Review 5:The room I had, although clean, felt cold / no warmth (figuratively speaking). Maybe carpet would help.

Review 6:Liked the location of the hotel and the aesthetics of the restaurant and lobby area.

Review 7:Only 3 power sockets for TV, fridge, electric jug, lamp, etc. Have to crawl under table to disconnect some for laptop, phone, etc.

Review 8:spacious room, big comfy bed, flatscreen TV with plenty of English channels as well as BBC/CNN news. V.good dinner buffet (Saturdays only?) €23.50 incl as much wine, beer, etc, as you want.

Review 9:the mattresses had a protective plastic cover that made sleeping not so comfortable. We took a cab from the hotel to the airport. The front desk had been so kind to order the cab for us, but the fare seemed to be ridiculous .

Review 10:the property is nice and close to the city center. The staff was very helpful - for example we received a packed breakfast because we had to check out early to catch a flight.

Review 11:Noisy pump from the swimming pool can be heard from 9am till 9pm in rooms 323/322 and 423/422, so this was not great if you pop in for a nap during the day. The whole room could do with a bit of paint. the whole hotel has a bit of "yesterday" feel. Breakfast more 2 - 3 star.

Review 12:Great location right in town, good view from roof top terrace (with pool!), rooms spacious, good bed and mattress.

Review 13:The hotel is very unique visually, the rooms are modern, up to date tech devices. The Talisman has many great amenities, and a excellent breakfast. The staff is super friendly and very honest. When checking up, I over paid by $100 EUR, as the bills had stuck together. The front desk hunted me down to return the money.

Review 14:Good location in old city centre, very good and rich buffet breakfast, clean and spacious rooms, we had a double with a little balcony, really nice. A little fitness and a pool at the roof top terrace with a nice view. As our flight from Lisbon was cancelled and we arrived one day later, regardless of the late notice they simply changed the booking with no fees charged. For our next trip to Azores we would probably choose to rent one of those little houses around Sao Miguel, but for the first time staying at nice and friendly hotel Talisman was a perfect choice. We would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to stay at Ponta Delgada and make day trips around the island.

Review 15:The staff were friendly and helpful, the building was charming even if a tad dated (this only added to its charm) and the breakfast was surprisingly complete.

Review 16:Parking was in an unattended lot.

Review 17:Hotel was very clean and staff friendly. We indicated on our reservation we were on our honeymoon and returned to our room to sparkling wine and cake!

Review 18:Multiple amenities, including a rooftop pool and terrace to enjoy the city views. Nice to have a breakfast included so we could have a hearty quick breakfast, before going out for a full day of excursioning.

Review 19:The dinner was correct. I suggest to have dinner somewhere else.

Review 20:It was my birthday when we stayed at the Talisman Hotel. What a surprisewhen we went back in our room late in the afternoon: bottle ofchampagne, cake, candle... So nice and kind! As we left very early theday after, we didn't take breakfast. We found a basket in our roomwith fruit juice, sandwiches, apples...in order to have a properbreakfast at the airport. Many thanks for all these nice things!

Review 21:An excellent location in the old town. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very varied and fresh. Our room was spacious if a little dark under the eaves and plenty of stairs, although this was not a problem. It was clean and peaceful.

Review 22:Parking a car is a bit troublesome. Advice: don't bother with the hotel parking offering and park your car somewhere in the streets. It was never a problem to find free parking (very low fees)

Review 23:Location, cleanlyness.

Review 24:4 tea bags provided - if you want more you have to buy them from reception! For 120 euros a night, it wouldn't kill them to provide more. Staff were indifferent. Overall, not worth the money - this was our 'treat' at the end of a holiday and we had better experiences at places that cost a fraction of this hotel. Screech of tyres on cobbled roads at all hours was annoying.

Review 25:The balcony overlooking the park was pleasant. Bed was comfortable.

Review 26:Our room was directly under the rooftop pool and the noise of the water when people were swimming first thing in the morning was intrusive. Also the restaurant staff were not particularly helpful.

Review 27:Interesting decor.

Review 28:Terrible mattresses - I could feel each spring in my back. Likewise very poor breakfast - the coffee was horrible - and this is Portugal, where coffee should always be great. Luckily there are several cafes nearby to get your caffeine fix. Overall, the property is a bit tired and doesn't feel like a 4 star. If you have 3 star expectations, you'll be satisfied.

Review 29:Great location - right in downtown. Pretty good value for money.

Review 30:Gorgeous rooftop pool could have been a few degrees warmer.

Review 31:Accomodations were upgraded for us as it was our honeymoon. Lovely suite and great breakfast buffet.

Review 32:Nothing - they were great.

Review 33:Location was excellent and the staff very accommodating. We arrived on an overnight flight hoping to just leave bags, but our room was ready for us. Very comfortable and breakfast much better than most. Highly recommended.

Review 34:All the equipment on the gym need a good service / maintenance.

Review 35:We had an excellent room at the front of the building. Dining room staff attentive. Location for the town is excellent being in the centre of the main town area. The quirky building design made it an interesting challenge to find your way round.

Review 36:Rooms were lack lustre, layout is a bit of a shambles, and we could hear the other guests and sound of the breakfast from our first floor room in the morning... The reception desk showed so much promise! But the rest of the hotel is pretty average, and lacking in the flourishes the hotel seemed to promise. Fine for a functional stay, but don't expect anything special.

Review 37:Good location - although note if you're driving, there's no free parking.

Review 38:The hotel decor is a little tired. Our room was right at the back and wasn't available until 4pm as it was being cleaned. It smelt of a mixture of lots of cleaning products and body odour when we finally got into it.

Review 39:The hotel is right in the centre of town and the staff are incredibly helpful. For location and service it cannot really be faulted.

Review 40:Staff seemed a bit disinterested but by no means unpleasant. Bit quiet, lacking atmosphere. Think more should be made of the roof terrace, if you could have breakfast or drinks up there would be great. Bit if a wasted opportunity.

Review 41:Was a fine hotel, great terrace views, super comfy bed and great location. Good breakfast.

Review 42:Very bleak outlook from bedroom windows (overlooking inside of hotel buildings/air conditioning units). Room smelled a bit fusty although very clean. Could not open the windows as there was too much noise from air conditioning units outside the windows. Breakfast not very hot

Review 43:The hotel decor Staff very friendly Very clean Very large rooms Large dining rooms and lovely outside the hotel

Review 44:aircon didn't work well curtain torn rooms quite small, wifi unreliable, awkward to plug in kettle, some socket on the wall fell off, lights dim. Tried to take some breakfast to my partner in room as she cant get up due to illness and thought i was going to be arrested! Room service continental breakfast only E3.50. Think over expensive

Review 45:The location, elegant authentic design, staff very good. Breakfasts nice.

Review 46:The balcony rooms are a bit noisy from the morning traffic, but this is not a complaint, just a "heads up". You can't blame the hotel for the noise. Be sure to book the room anyway if you can and just put up with it. There's a great view of the courtyard.

Review 47:May very well be the nicest hotel, just a 5-10 minute walk to shopping and great restaurants in the city. Staff are very accomodating and helpful. English is no problem at all. Great location and nice view of the courtyard from the balcony rooms. The hotel staff take pride in the place and make a traveller feel most welcome!

Review 48:I didn't like the fact that it was not a double bed but two single beds, they weren't even put together with the sheets so me and my partner slept in one of them ! The internet didn't work all the time it kept going off. I don't think wifi is good in the Azores but I could be wrong. There was an electricity cut when we had a jacuzzi . . . I thought we had used more than our quota of electricity ! When I read the information in the room about the hotel it sounded a bit strict. It said for instance that you weren't allowed to take towels out of the room for the swimming pool and, if you did there was a fine of 20 euros. I had planned to leave all the towels just outside the door to see how high I could make the bill :) Apparently for the swimming pool you had to pay 10 euros cash for each towel to borrow it. You did this by going all the way down to reception which was quite a few buildings away from our room. Consequently we did not bother to use the swimming pool. I think this is a very silly idea. Each room should have towels for the swimming pool as well. They should not expect the customer to walk all the way to reception every time they wanted a swim. They should also not expect them to have 10 euros cash everytime they wanted to borrow one. Each time you borrowed one you had to take it back to reception to retrieve your 10 euros. What a long and drawn out process. The snooker cost 6 euros an hour and there was always someone using it, so again, that was out of bounds. The air conditioner wasn't that good and did not really cool the room down. The breakfast should have included far more fresh fruit and salad. There was nowhere near enough. The fruit drink should have been fruit juice again this is more healthy than some sugar and additive orientated drink.

Review 49:The jacuzzi bath. The two sinks, the shower. The comfy sofas. It had a big TV and all the furniture was good quality and luxury. It was all top quality furniture and fittings with a bit of colour. The beds were comfortable. The room was enormous and the bathroom was big too. The balcony was big. These are things I liked. Our room was much bigger than anyone else's but it may be because I am a travel journalist :) The waffles were really nice at breakfast but not too healthy. The gym equipment was fun. The kettle in the room was useful. The hotel itself looks amazing. I like the decor and the layout. It happens to be several buildings all round the corner too.

Review 50:Lovely hotel in great location, rooms lovely and breakfast was really nice

Review 51:Hotel is dated

Review 52:Good location, able to walk to many places.

Review 53:Excellent buffet breakfast. Great bar with free pool tables (I lost every game but the hotel can't be blamed for that).

Review 54:Stayed in a suite and the beds were not together! Made for rough nights.

Review 55:Great location and friendly staff

Review 56:Beautiful spacious suite, with luxury bathroom. Huge included buffet breakfast

Review 57:Nothing

Review 58:Attractive and comfortable environment - helpful staff - breakfast offerings

Review 59:Classic beauty in a quaint scenic city.

Review 60:Everything about this place was great! The staff was truly wonderful and the location was prime!

Review 61:nothing

Review 62:Exceptional service!

Review 63:Saturday night noise and early morning planes' noise; double glazing not sound-proof enough.

Review 64:Location. General décor and style. Helpful staff.

Review 65:Liked food services on site. Front desk very accommodating. Location great.

Review 66:Pool nothing special, too small...

Review 67:Location. Staff.

Review 68:Nothing.

Review 69:Everything! Excellent location, excellent facilities, great breakfast & evening meal, great value for money. Seriously nothing to falt.

Review 70:the hotel maintained poorly.

Review 71:The stuff tried to solve problems.

Review 72:Smallish rooms rather expensive for what it was.

Review 73:In town.

Review 74:room was just fine and breakfast was lovely good location to walk into town

Review 75:Rooms can use an upgrade. Very dated.

Review 76:Excellent location

Review 77:Not 5 stars bed

Review 78:Friendly staff

Review 79:great location...very nice hotel, lovely room and a really nice stay in a super hotel!

Review 80:Everything

Review 81:wifi worked on and off. Room was fine and clean but nothing special.

Review 82:location

Review 83:location very good restaurant good

Review 84:Very central beautiful building wonderful breakfast

Review 85:We are not used to noise, as we live in the country. Down town, can be noisy.

Review 86:Close to everything, nice staff, very clean.

Review 87:We liked the convenient location. the front desk staff were very helpful.

Review 88:The dark lighting in the room

Review 89:Centrally located hotel owned by a Canadian, which is good value for the money.

Review 90:The noise produced by staff's activities during breakfast.

Review 91:Confortable, located at a beautifull place.

Review 92:Located close to all major view sights, and adjacent to beautiful garden square. All the staff were superb and nothing was too much trouble. Very good restaurant

Review 93:There was nothing we didn't like about the hotel

Review 94:The staff at the front desk were extremely helpful. They all spoke English and were more than willing to help with directions, suggestions and places to eat. Breakfast was included with the price of the room and it had many items to choose from. They would even make waffles if you wanted them.

Review 95:It is all good.

Review 96:This is the second time we have stayed at the Talisman and everything about is excellent. Will stay there again, the next we are in the Azores.

Review 97:I would have wished to have some towel rails and hooks in the bathroom, same thing next to the entrance door.

Review 98:Spacious room with a comfy bed. The breakfast was especially good. Staff was partly very helpful. We had a good recommendation about a car rental place with really good service and tips about the island!

Review 99:You cannot fault perfection

Review 100:Location is very central. Very quiet. All staff very friendly and reception staff very helpful. Rooms simply furnished and clean. Excellant breakfast buffet with hot and cold dishes, assorted meats, cheeses, fruit and breads. Highly recommend

Review 101:Requested a quiet room. Put in a room that was overtop of the sports bar. Found this out when the pounding music went on until 2 am - earplugs cannot muffle the bass. Went to front desk at midnight and no other rooms available and no recourse. Explained situation in the am on check out - frustrated that spent for a full night but only a few hours of sleep. No compensation offered but "would pass along to the management". Would rather they had told us of the situation up front on check in and we would have had option to take it with full disclosure or seek room elsewhere. What could have been a good stay and review turns into a negative based on my experience.

Review 102:booked based on recommendations. Agree that : good location and charm. Front desk helpful to find locations in city. Lovely view of city from roof top pool (unheated). Good breakfast and wait staff pleasant. Night not so great and unfortunately not enough to overcome a bad night.

Review 103:Wow! The Talisman Hotel is a gem. Central location in Ponta Delgada, just a few blocks from the harbor makes for east walking. There is a small plaza adjacent to hotel that is quite pretty and relaxing. The rooms are very nice and very well-kept. The staff are very helpful at every turn. The in-house restaurant is really quite nice. The evening buffet and the breakfast are both absolutely delicious. I would recommend the Talisman to others, and will definately book again on future visits to Ponta Delgada. Nicely done Hotel Taliman!

Review 104:The dark, dreary, and creepy corridors and the disgustingly furnished room. The roof deck pool furnished with moldy old lounge chairs.

Review 105:The breakfast was fine

Review 106:the smell of grease- all the way from the kitchen to our part of the hotel; the cigarette smoke; the cars squealing at the corner, day and night; the room air freshener from the maids (we had to 'air out' the room every day) lack of washcloths; (an American thing, yes, but…) no on-site self-serve laundromat.

Review 107:the old world charm, the balcony, the friendliness of the staff, the sun-dappled inner courtyard; the buffet on the weekend, to sample local dishes; proximity to town center- but not 'in it.'

Review 108:Too noisy, especially at weekend evenings. Internet is free, but very unstable.

Review 109:The location is great. Swimming pool on the top with fantastic view. Old classic style..

Review 110:Surprisingly, we had to pay all the rooms at check in, really pay, not just copy of the credit card as normal! Reason according to the front desk, the booking was made through www.booking.com, then you pay at arrival in this hotel. We stayed in 3 rooms, at arrival in winter time all rooms were very humid and rather cold, probably not used for a long time. The air con used also for heating were broken in all 3 rooms at arrival. We had to ask for electric heaters and extra blankets. Not even the ventilation was running at arrival. Everything was luckily repaired the following day, but it took some more days to get the humidity out from the old stone walls. In one of the rooms, the electronic door key did not work, in total 8 different cards were programmed. Finally she had 4 equal cards at the same time, just to be rather sure to get into the room. Maybe changing room or door lock would have been better solution instead of asking if the card is close to the mobile phone. In some way, you get the feeling that booking.com is equal to some remote cold and smaller rooms, a little bit second class customer. It was also dusty floors until we complained, those carpets had not seen a vacuum cleaner for a long time! It was rather dusty with the old and rather dirty carpets on the floor. Our son had to move to another room because of an allergic reaction caused by the dust and humidity. That other room was much better and cleaner that the other 2 rooms, and the allergic reaction disappeared. In Friday's and Saturday's nights the hotel is offering rather loud music in the bar, that you can hear all the way up to third floor. I just wonder how it is to be just above the bar in second floor?

Review 111:The friendly staff at the front desk and in the restaurant. Even the electrician trying to solve the problems was friendly. Nice hotel in nice environments. A little bit old fashion in a positive way. The breakfast was OK, offering the basic stuff you normally expect. Even if we had complains, the staff always tried to make the best of the situation.

Review 112:The staff was very friendly and helpful. The owner happened to be thereon my last day. He asked questions about our stay and very interested inour comments as the hotel is undergoing refurishment. Very good customerservice from top management to front desk!

Review 113:There were two types of rooms: one is somewhat appropriate for the moneyvalue and the others are very inappropriate: missing furniture:refrigerator, chairs; windows were looking into the wall.

Review 114:The staff was excellent, very accommodating, polite and trying theirbest. Hotel's location was great.

Review 115:The Internet and the room safe box are not free [But on the other handyou get discount in the hotel restaurant !]

Review 116:The location in town and the boutiqe design. The friendly staff.

Review 117:The restaurant was a little out of fashion, and better emphasis could beplaced on the breakfast service. Self service of coffee from largethermos is not a good idea, fresh coffee should be served at table.

Review 118:The sympathy with local architecture and atmosphere. The originalbuilding with contemporary extension succeeded in giving a sense ofplace. Guest rooms had a good feeling of comfort and are well appointed.Other hotels on the coastal road have completely failed in theirattempts to highlight the location, while the Talisman succeeds.

Review 119:The hotel does not have reliable WiFi. It was working at the lobby only and even than not consistently. At this time & age it is expected to have good connection, as rule I do not stay at hotels without WiFi or at ones that charge money. I think this can be easily fixed. The location is a bit noisy but it is expected as it is located mid old town, the noise dies during night, was not an issue.

Review 120:Very good location super nice staff. Clean rooms with excellent restaurant & breakfast. I recommend the hotel without hesitation.

Review 121:Restaurant: The chicken in the restaurant was too tough and drowning in the pasta. Not caompatible. Had to put the two pieces on another plate. The salad that came with the lulinhas was drowning in azeite, had to scoop it over on another plate.

Review 122:Very good service and friendly people. Good restaurant, I enjoyed prato do dia for lunch. Very comfortable room.

Review 123:Both of the rooms I stayed in had a damp smell emanating from the bathroom

Review 124:The Hotel is well placed in Ponta Delgada and reasonably quiet. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was fine.

Review 125:Internet access was not uniformly available in all rooms. Only paid parking was available. Transportation to and from the airport was not provided by the hotel and needs to be arranged by the traveler. Rental cars on Sao Miguel are mostly small with standard transmission and may not accommodate more than 3 travelers plus three large suitcases so arrangements for a travel van would be necessary for larger groups.

Review 126:This was an up-scale hotel in a location which provided relatively easy access to and from the airport and close proximity to Ponta Delgada's restaurants, nightlife, shopping, and museums. The hotel's dining was excellent and provided inclusive breakfasts offering a broad variety of fine options to start the day including indoor and outside seating. Staff were helpful with any problems, questions, or directions.

Review 127:A beautifully designed and appointed hotel with quality furnishings. Spotlessly clean. Very helpful efficient staff particularly on reception. Full English and Continental breakfast included. From the plane landing it took 45 minutes before we were entering our rooms (bedroom and sitting room). It can take 45 minutes to collect baggage at an airport elsewhere. The restaurant did an excellent all in buffet with wine on Fri and Sat for 17 euros. A la carte meals on other nights a bit disappointing despite 15% resident discount. Recommended.
