Reviews for Miyajima Seaside Hotel

Review 1:It seemed only a few guests were staying. Hotel bus dropped us off at the ferry to take photos of the Ontorii Gate lit up at night but as it was dark quiet and empty i asked driver could he drive us little further, wait and drive us back. We felt frightened and very alone. He said no and drove off.

Review 2:staying at this hotel in this location was quite an experience. Very traditional with warm comfortable futons, amazing dinner brought to our room complete with oysters served in various ways, onsen and views of the beach right outside our window. Wild deer wondering everywhere. Fishing side of the island so lovely walk around the fishing boats in the morning.

Review 3:I asked to try something that was not in the western breakfast. It was also my birthday, but the staff said that was not possible. Never mind, but is a little thing when you pay that price for one night.

Review 4:Amazing view and lovely staff. Dinner had been an experience and the class thing is that you have it in your room. Miyajima has a lovely atmosphere: take your time to live it.

Review 5:Great hotel! Excellent service with delicous food at the Kaiseki dinner. the value was amazing - the most worth it hotel we've been in within Japan. Highly recommended

Review 6:The island is beautiful. The hotel is typical japanese. Food is great with local hoysters, and the people really made us feel welcome. Overall a Wonderful experience

Review 7:Happy with most aspects

Review 8:Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean rooms. At last a place with a couple of western visitors and older people to sit on to out on socks etc

Review 9:The location is perfect, the view from the room is wonderful. The food was really good and staff was very attentive. The memo is not updated, you can get shuttles anytime during the day, not just the time frame they give. There is also Wifi in all rooms, although a bit slow.

Review 10:You need to take a taxi from the harbour to get to the hotel cause is far away from the city. However the hotel provides you with a shuttle bus that runs every 30 minutes from/to the harbour terminal .

Review 11:Japanese dinner is excellent .

Review 12:Reused slippers, struggling to get shoes back for a walk, lock down after 10, multiple interuptions with dinner. Please serve it and let us enjoy it. Cold eggs, overdressed salad for breakfast. Up there with worst ever breakfasts I have not eaten. Disappointing that there were no oysters on the dinner menu, we are looking at them growing and we get fed short neck clams with fanfare of pots and fire, sad, bland, tiny morsels of nothingness. Waste of time in my opinion. I found the staff polite but certainly not friendly. Our experience during the day in town was amazing, wonderful food, wonderful people, such a calm, tranquil island, the deers are fabulous. I will come back but would not stay on the island again.

Review 13:The island. The Japanese experience

Review 14:The distance from the jetty... it's a long walk if need to.

Review 15:Comfortable rooms facing the sea, excellent meals served and overall ambience of the hotel.

Review 16:None

Review 17:Fantastic attentive staff, v friendly and helpful, lovely room, genuine Japanese experience, good bus service to and from village, lovely evening full set dinner, lovely public bath with waterfall feature.

Review 18:I can't think of a single item

Review 19:In a word -everything. In a few more words: the ryokan type hotel itself, wonderful secluded location at the beach, the helpful, friendly staff, the delicious food simply great. Do not be alarmed by the distance from the ferry piers- the hotel arranges a quick minibus pick up at 10-15 min notice throughout the day- just ring the Reception, but to be honest its' 20min of pleasant gentle stroll from the village

Review 20:There was absolutely nothing to not like ! We enjoyed it all & are so grateful to staff for finding & sending son's lost wallet!

Review 21:Courteous Staff .Convenient shuttle .Clean facility . Nice breakfast . Superior staff integrity...my son lost his wallet there . Laundry staff discovered in towels after our departure & hotel notified us & mailed directly to us at no expense!! Unbelievable honesty & exemplary character..a true accolade of Japanese culture exemplified by staff of this ryokan !

Review 22:Wi-fi in lobby only No restaurants local to hotel and hotels meals have to be pre-book in advance

Review 23:Fantastic Japanese experience - one of the best of our holiday. Helpful staff - It's a few kilometers from the port to the hotel and the staff were very helpful in picking the luggage up and dropping it off at any time of day.

Review 24:Our observation of how a few guests were so rude and dismissive towards such lovely courteous and friendly staff.

Review 25:Tranquility of hotel location as a 15-20 minute pleaseant walk from main area of island. Beautiful sea view from room with deer roaming by. Clean room with comfortable futons. Extremely efficient, courteous, friendly and helpful staff. Efficient minibus service to, and from, hotel to town - one of the drivers recognised us walking near the temple, after only being there a day, and asked if we needed a lift back to the hotel. On arrival at the island ask the tourist office staff, who will phone the hotel for you, and the minibus will collect you promptly. Choice of Japanese or western breakfast included in price...ample portions. Good wifi access in room on first floor. Nice clean onson. The three night stay here was one of the highlights of our holiday in Japan providing us with many happy memories....just wish we had stayed longer. Many thanks to all staff. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 26:The island is beautiful, and miyajima seaside hotel is the most affordable lodging on the island. The traditional dinner was very nice and included in the room rate - other places you would as much for the dinner alone. The hotel is situated a twenty minute walk from the harbour, but there is a shuttle bus, and what is even nicer: there is a very beautiful beach a ten minute walk in the opposite direction!

Review 27:We stayed in a room of 3 so it was very good value, but it may be a little expensive for solo travelers.

Review 28:Fantastic views and really friendly staff, who were willing to pick us up whenever we called them from the station.

Review 29:Amazing staff always smiling and cannot do enough for you. The ryokan is fantastic and a great experience if you have never done before, everything you need even a little tea set! The breakfast is great and will be ready for you when you get to the restaurant. The location is 15 mins walk to the harbour and 20 mins to the famous Tori gate. Walk around the island its beautiful and funny seeing all the deer!

Review 30:Would have appreciated some information on where and when to wear the traditional robe, and directions on the use of the onsen.

Review 31:Shuttle bus to/from the boat, as well as for an evening trip to see the Shrine by night. We had a nice trip to the Mt Misen (hiked all the way down). Helpful staff, nice ryokan experience, including the dinner. Beautiful view from the room.

Review 32:The location was isolated (a few km from Miyajima town). However, that wasn't all bad, as it was right on the seafront.

Review 33:Staff were really nice. The hotel's breakfast was good. The location was offset by a free shuttle service into town, which made getting dinner much easier. Good value for a nice ryokan.

Review 34:Only a few staff speak understandable English.

Review 35:They are a small team that love to served and keep their customer happy. The front desk manager even oil my luggage wheels when he notice I had a difficult steering my luggage during my check in.

Review 36:-choppy wifi - inflexible on late checkout (it's 10am). Wouldn't let me come back to use onsen after morning hike. Could have just been lost in translation - would have appreciated more direction on how to wear traditional robe and use onsen facilities.

Review 37:- staff were very attentive and made their best effort to help me with problems (pickup from ferry area, fixing wifi) - authentic ryokan experience. Great way to relax after long day of tourist walking - great seaside view. Boat dock wasn't an issue

Review 38:I recommend having a eye mask at hand because the room wasn't very dark after the sunrise. Luckily we had so it wasn't a problem for us.

Review 39:I loved the awesome view from our room and the staff was so welcoming. It was raining and as they picked up our luggage from the pier they handed some umbrellas so we could continue our sightseeing without visiting the hotel. We had an amazing meal at our room and enjoyed the baths as well.

Review 40:Staff was super helpful and nice, spacious rooms, very clean, good food. Pick up service from ferry, shuttle also available during day until late evening of you want to go to town.

Review 41:The hotel was located in a very picturesque location looking out to the bay, with beautiful views day and night. The hotel staff were extremely attentive and even repaired a damaged wheel on our suitcase. The food was superb and the Onsen very relaxing. The shuttle bus makes getting to the port easy. Would strongly recommend to anyone seeking the traditional Ryokan experience.

Review 42:The facilities are a little dated, but we still had a great stay. The staff are incredibly helpful, and were more than happy to help us get in and out of time. The hotel is a little retro but we embraced this charm and had a good stay. Definitely recommend staying at miyajima to enjoy the island after the crowds head back for the day.

Review 43:Some doors are a bit too small (pay attention to your head if you are taller than 185 / 6.8!)

Review 44:Great staff with true kindness; Very calm place in the nature (you can sea eagles!); Extremelly good food for dinner and breakfast; Good overall japanese ambience/experience

Review 45:The only problem some people might find is that there is no restaurant in the hotel and restaurants shut quite early in miyajima, but it was never an issue for us as we are before we headed back to the hotel and there is a shop in the lobby for snacks and ice-cream

Review 46:We stayed in a Japanese room overlooking the sea and loved it. The rooms were spacious and the Japanese beds were really comfortable. The staff were so helpful, even driving us to the station when it was raining and they spoke really good English. The hotel itself was quite far from the station but we enjoyed the walk (the staff can drive you if you want) and it is in such a beautiful location that we liked spending our evenings around the hotel and using their public bath.

Review 47:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Phoning for the shuttle bus from the pier was simple and they came to pick us up within 5 minutes. Room was nice with a nice view of the beach and deer

Review 48:The toilet was a bit smelly (the first time we had experienced that in Japan), but at least this area was closed off from the main bedroom.

Review 49:Wonderful views from the room. Very peaceful location. Excellent shuttle service to and from the port. Driver even offered us a lift when we just went out for the evening. Superb dinner. Breakfast was good - one of us had Japanese, the other Western. The Futons were made with 2 mattresses, so the hotel made a good effort to make us comfortable, but I'm afraid we still found them hard. I can't put this as a negative point, as this has to be expected in a ryokan.

Review 50:Our toilet smelled rather badly, which was the only flaw in an otherwise perfect stay. The in-house meals are served within set timeframes and the staff must be notified a day in advance, but the local restaurants close between 5-8pm, so arrive by mid-afternoon if you're planning on eating there.

Review 51:Hotel shuttle arrived at seaport less than 5 minutes from calling, incredibly attentive staff knows each guest by name, gorgeous seaside view on the quiet island of Miyajima/Itsukushima (deer abound!), public baths, and a massive, comfortable room in traditional ryokan style.

Review 52:Staff could NOT have been more helpful, they were just great - picking us up and dropping us off in town on demand! Good English spoken so don't have any concerns using the payphone by the station to call them for a ride. The onsen is very good as well, games downstairs for kids and younger teens.

Review 53:Rooms (bathroom in particular) would need to be renewed a little Breakfast a bit too early!

Review 54:Seaview Staff very helpful and attentive Room was comfortable and quiet Good location allowing to escape from the crowded areas, with very convenient transportations by shuttle as needed Japanese breakfast

Review 55:Nothing!

Review 56:Very nice staff, the japanese breakfast was great, and very nice rooms. It's in a very pleasant beach in Miyajima so anyone can sleep and rest properly.

Review 57:rooms are extremely Spartan, you can hear everything going on in the rooms next door

Review 58:extremely attentive staff from the bus driver to the restaurant and reception staff, dinner & Japanese style breakfast were very good

Review 59:The western breakfast was a little strange. The resort is on the far side of the island, which allows for privacy and peace, but it makes it difficult to get to the main part of town without using a taxi.

Review 60:Staff are extremely polite and welcoming and the shuttle bus transfers to and from the ferry terminal were very handy. The traditional style beds were extremely comfortable and the room is nice and large with beautiful views.

Review 61:The staff was very attentive. We were late for dinner, but the hotel kindly agreed to accomodate that. Wonderful shuttle bus service to and from the ferry. Very delicious Japanese-style "kaiseki" dinner featuring local specialties. Beautiful views! Nice public bath.

Review 62:Thin walls! Couldn't sleep properly because the people in the next room were so loud! The staff did try to help but it wasn't a good nights sleep unfortunately

Review 63:Great view, shuttle service was useful.

Review 64:Nothing I can think of other than its location slightly off. But very willing staff to assist in pick up and drop off so it's not a significant negative. (Note shuttles only start around 8am) Not the newest of hotels but still very comfortable and clean.

Review 65:Staff very willing to help - we arrived before check in time, they picked up our luggage from the ferry terminal and we were free to go off to explore the island. They came to pick us up again after sunset to return for dinner. Staff know you/your family by name/surname and slippers are provided on arrival. Beautiful relaxing view of the inland sea (only 2 rooms on each floor seem to face inwards) Generously sized rooms with private shower/bathroom. It also has a public bath but which I did not have time to go to. Dinner is served in your room, a fun experience. Food portions generous. Not amazing but still delicious, and given the lack of other options on island, I would go with it even if I had to choose again. Breakfast was nice too but shops start to open up and you start having a choice of eating out.

Review 66:It was too far out of town to walk and the harbour and beach out front were very dirty, we were also too hot under doona although great in mid winter a lighter blanket would be great.

Review 67:I liked the staff they were great, the free breakfast was really good, i wish I had had the japanese one it was sensational, we were dropped off and picked up whenever we wanted bed comfortable, lovely onsen, they came and made our bed up too wonderful.

Review 68:Nothing

Review 69:The service was excellent - the staff friendly and helpful. The food was great. This was my first experience with this type of accomodation and I thoroughly enjoyed it

Review 70:The location is bit away from the happenings, but 15-min walk turned out to be favorable by us. Nothing around as it is in a very quiet residential area. Public bath is bit simple but okay.

Review 71:Hospitality services were quite good. Our Japanese traditional room is facing a nice bay and pine tress, so the view was great. It has a resort look-and-feel. Breakfast was really good.

Review 72:After having spent a week in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka I thought it would be nice to spend a few days at a nice seaside hotel relaxing at the beach. Although located literaly on the beach, this hotel has not at all got a beach hotel feel to it. It could just as well have been located in a city. Although clean, it is also quite dated and needs a serious makeover. Actually expensive for what you get and compared to other hotels. A bit disappointing actually.

Review 73:Very nice Japanese breakfast.

Review 74:In retrospect would have chosen the Japanese breakfast as the Western-style breakfast was a little odd to say the least.

Review 75:We stayed in the Japanese-style room and once you get over the idea of sleeping on the floor it's a great experience. First time staying in a Ryokan so this was a truly authentic journey for us. Great location by the sea and with it being such a small island access to all major sites was not a problem. Would recommend this hotel.

Review 76:The location is a bit remote [but they do provide willing and frequent transportation in.] Was not too excited about the breakfast [either western or Japanese].

Review 77:Interesting place with helpful staff. The dinner we booked in the restaurant was very good.

Review 78:Facilities are a little dated but well maintained and clean.

Review 79:The service was the best I have ever experienced. We felt like royalty. We ordered the half-board (dinner and breakfast) and the food was fantastic. Delicious and plenty of it. We loved having a traditional dinner in our room. It was the perfect Japanese experience. The staff also drove us to, and picked us up from the nearby beach.

Review 80:The hotel staff is very welcoming, they are friendly and speak english very well. Our room was big, clean and with a nice view to the sea - and it was peacefully quiet there A big plus is also the very convenient shuttle bus service from and to the ferry pier. The public bath is big and not too hot! :-) The breakfast - both, japanese and western - is very good! And did I mention the very friendly staff? This made it! We will come back!

Review 81:A bit dusty, would need a refresh

Review 82:Facing the bay

Review 83:traditional Ryokan with perfect meal

Review 84:Food so so. Extra towel is chargeable even for room use. Check out time is 10am and we need to pay extra if we check out after 10am.

Review 85:Decor a bit dated,

Review 86:Staff friendly n efficient

Review 87:It is far from the main town site... But they will pick you up!

Review 88:So awesome. Food was incredible and added so much value to the room.

Review 89:It was too far from the main attractions.

Review 90:Amazing room with great view! Loved the kaiseki dinner.

Review 91:Good sea view Staff very friendly, especially the shuttle bus driver and the two ladies serving our dinners.

Review 92:Helpful and friendly staff

Review 93:Old facilities therefore we think price/quality ratio is not very good

Review 94:Excellent service, very helpful

Review 95:The staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough. Lovely peaceful location

Review 96:Western breakfast was not great

Review 97:Great experience of Japanese hospitality. Dinner iwas served in a private room just for us. Nice public bath

Review 98:Very kind and helpful staff, wonderful meals, free shuttle to and from the ferry terminal

Review 99:The welcome by staff upon arrival was fantastic. All requests for assitance were treated helpfully and with enthusiasm.

Review 100:Fabulous meal, lovely staff, clean, comfortable room. A great Japanese experience.

Review 101:N/a Weak Wifi in certain areas

Review 102:great services, friendly staff

Review 103:The staff is very very kind. They did the best for our accomodation. The dinner was great. Thank you.

Review 104:Everything. Amazing place and food

Review 105:great value for money. great hotel.

Review 106:Everthing was so enjoyable

Review 107:Everything was really good.

Review 108:Beautiful place for a truly Japanese experience.

Review 109:Staff efficiency and willingness to help with any issue!!

Review 110:El unico punto malo que encontre fue el olor desagradable al salir del elevador.

Review 111:El experimentar y vivir las tradiciones japonesas.

Review 112:Hôtel a bit hold

Review 113:Food

Review 114:a little to far away from main area

Review 115:staff very nice, inroom dining excellent, nice public bath, free shuttle from and to ferry terminal

Review 116:We loved everything about the hotel. Service, traditional room.. Dinner was great experience. Definetely one of the highlights of our trip to Japan.

Review 117:The staff

Review 118:Hotel staff very very dedicated. View from the room. Size of the room (very condor table for four adults).

Review 119:Quite far from the port but they offer a shuttle bus

Review 120:Onsen, good food, staff very nice
