Reviews for Iwaso

Review 1:Nil.

Review 2:More pricey than what we usually pay for accommodation but definitely worth the money. Beautiful traditional rooms with a view, in the beautiful location on Miyajima. Oh and the onsen! Bliss! Lovely Japanese kaiseki cuisine (several course traditional Japanese meal served personally in your room) included. A true Japanese experience.

Review 3:The amount of food was way too much there should be a choice of how many courses you want to eat

Review 4:The baths were very nice and hot spar was clean and calm

Review 5:Highly recommend for food lovers their kaiseki dinner is well proportioned and very high quality. However we managed to eat only 50% of it since we didn't have a big appetite so prob not a good ROI for us.

Review 6:A little pricey but to be expected for the location; the ONLY negative was that the in-room massage service advertised in the rooms was unavailable during our stay.

Review 7:Great elaborate dinner and breakfast, attentive staff, very nice onsen, nice digs overall.

Review 8:The property is a little dated, but I think it adds to the charm :)

Review 9:Iwaso is in a beautiful location on Miyajima Island, beside a park and some hiking trails, despite being very close to the Tori gate. The food was fabulous and the staff very friendly. The onsen was great too. It was raining when we arrived, but it added to the atmosphere.

Review 10:Beautiful property set back from the tourist mayhem of the town. Spacious tatami room with all amenities. Friendly and warm staff. The highlight was the in-room multi-course kaiseki dinner. Taste, presentation and service were top notch. Breakfast in the dining room was fantastic as well -- choose Japanese option all the way! Finally, a beautiful onsen facilities to soak oneself after a long day of sightseeing. Worth the splurge!

Review 11:Everything was perfect! The staff were extremely helpful and kind and they spoke very good english. They picked us up from the ferry and after check in they spent time explaining the amenities. They did more than expected. The food was fantastic, both dinner and breakfast, authentic Japanese meals. The room was great, Japanese style with futons and good tea. The onsen is really nice, with all facilities you need, two hot baths, one inside and one outside. The atmosphere was beautiful outside, you could see the forest and hear the river. The hotel is located just 2 minutes walk from the shrine, which is the main attraction of the island and in the evening is breathtaking.

Review 12:The best place we stayed in our 3 weeks! This is more than a hotel, this is an unforgettable experience. Dinner was brought to us dish by dish in our room, the whole process took hours- an absolute joy!

Review 13:Being a traditional guest house, we slept on tatami(?) mats as an alternative to western style beds. They weren't all that comfortable but that is part of the experience! The room otherwise is beautiful, large and very cosy.

Review 14:Iwaso was recommended to me by friends and it did not disappoint. We loved the traditional guest house experience and the private degustation dinner that was included in the room rate. Staff were very friendly. Miyajima Island in general is just beautiful. Overall a fantastic experience

Review 15:Very helpfull staff. My girlfriend was sick and needed to see a doctor. Somebody of the staff came along to the hospital as an interpret and they brought us to the hospital and port by van for free.

Review 16:I'm not used to sleeping on a futon style bed so found it a little uncomfortable but this is part of the experience so in no way a major issue.

Review 17:The food was amazing and the staff were absolutely lovely!

Review 18:Watch out for Japanese breakfast, we really wanted to try the traditional breakfast, but if you are not fond of fish, algees, miso soup and other "special" tastes in the morning, consider taking the western one.

Review 19:The facilities are wonderful, the room is cosy, the kaiseki dinner is great, staff is nice, onsen relaxing. The price is quite high, but worth the money. They also have a pickup from the ferry port to iwaso available.

Review 20:Well, these Japanese beds are traditional but oh so hard...

Review 21:Fantastic personell and service, beautiful location, great onsen, friendly in the heart of Miyajima

Review 22:The attentiveness, warmth and efficiency of the staff is truly extra ordinary. It is quite a large establishment for a ryokan, but the staffing levels and their efficiency seems to be such that every guest room feels like a traditional ryokan haven. The drop off/ pickup service to the ferry terminal is readily available and quick, and the location is excellent for accessing all the other attractions on foot. The food and the onsen are both as good as it can get in a ryokan almost next door to a world heritage site and within easy reach of Hiroshima.

Review 23:There was very little not to like. If I was a stickler, the option to have dinner served in our room would have made it perfect, but as it was, the private dining booths were not far off.

Review 24:For me, the two most important features of a ryokan are the onsen and the food, Iwaso delivered brilliantly with both. Two indoor and two outdoor baths, with spotlessly clean and fully equipped washing facilities provided relaxing evening and early morning bathing. Dinner offered a series of wonderfully delicious kaiseki dishes, including local oysters, a Miyajima delicacy.

Review 25:Price is up there, but it keeps out the riff-raff!

Review 26:Location- A little off the tourist path, it's a perfect location to go to the shrines or up the mountain. Staff were very kind, English speaking. Facilities were top notch. Meals were great. If your a glutton, you may want more, but they were great , high quality set meals. Relaxing for a solo traveler. Take the night time cruise of the shrine. Friendly boat captain.

Review 27:The kaiseki dinner, whilst stunningly presented, contained several things I didn't actually like... Which made me feel very awkward! Iwaso is also on the pricey side, so for most, only one night is possible.

Review 28:The property is gorgeous, and the grounds are incredibly beautiful. The staff are absolutely wonderful; incredibly polite and friendly. The rooms are really nicely presented and you get a lovely traditional feel here.

Review 29:None.

Review 30:Their service is probably the best among the ryokans I've stayed in before! The food is really really good and the comforter....so fluffy, nice, and warm!

Review 31:Futon sleeping needs getting used to; no problem for one night!

Review 32:The welcome was unbelievable! It is a very well located and maintained ryokan. Our personal attendant was so sweet. We enjoyed this tradionnal hospitality in beautiful Miyajima and the typical meals. Make sure to try the onset. A must to any visit to Japan; enjoyed by the whole family.

Review 33:The air conditioner can get a bit hot at night (we stayed in winter), and it's a bit hard to find the right remote control setting to adjust it.

Review 34:Our stay in Iwaso was excellent. The staff speaks good English, and there were no hassles picking us up at the ferry terminal. Despite the view, the location is close to the shops and attractions, and the 'fresh melon bun with ice cream' around the corner is something everyone should try out. We travelled as a group of 6, and one of our friend is very fuzzy eater who will only eat cooked vegetable, and Iwaso was kind enough to cater for him as well.

Review 35:The food : Our dinner and breakfast were a little too tiny. Wifi : Only available at the Lobby, in my opinion, this would have been 10/10 with the in room wifi.

Review 36:Exceptional Staffs : Upon arrival at the pier, the van was sent to pick us up and the driver was very kind and polite. The staffs at the ryokan were very very nice and kind and extremely helpful. Our assistance, Miss Suki was just lovely and she did an exelent job and she did everything to accommodate our need. It was a birthday party for one of our friend and the staffs and Miss Suki did very very well in helping to make it a surprise party and a memorable one. Room : The rooms were quite large, there were plenty of space to move around, the rooms atmosphere were excellent looking over the mountain, the design of the room were functional in the traditional Japanese way and the ryokan is beautifully situated at the foot of the woods. Facility : The Hot bath was excellent, the outdoor one is perfect for relaxing.

Review 37:I really love Iwaso: perfect place, nice staff, good food and wonderful onsen. I don't have any concerns, everything was perfect. I recommend also the tipical Japanese dinner and breakfast.

Review 38:The maids/waitresses understood/spoke English very well. The front desk not so much.

Review 39:Kaiseki had beautiful presentation and great tasting food. A very good ryokan experience for people who have never been to one. Onsen very clean and well kept.

Review 40:The staff was friendly and helpful. The location was perfect for our short stay on Miyajima. The room was great. We chose a room with a private bath...not quite ready to go completely traditional...:-). Dinner was good and the futons were amazing!

Review 41:Iwaso was a peaceful experience in a beautiful setting. It was exactly what we hoped: traditional Japanese setting and food combined with modern comforts, excellent service and convenient location.

Review 42:Nothing.

Review 43:Stage island of Miyajima was magical and Iwaso was just as magical. It was a true Japanese experience as the package we bought included an authentic Japanese banquet, so much food. It was an opportunity to taste a huge variety of food that we had not tried due to sometimes it was too difficult to do so in restaurants. The Onsen was fabulous, an incredible setting, especially the outside Onsen backing on to a picturesque stream, babbling into the quiet of the night. A very, very special stay.

Review 44:This place is located high up and it has a great view. It is worth paying that little bit extra to stay at Iwaso because the service, food and accommodation was excellent! They offered an indoors and outdoors onsen and they were just fabulous!

Review 45:Many staff seemed completely uninterested. The exterior on arriving is lovely. The interior lacks charm and feels impersonal. Towels small and thin. Some areas poorly maintained. Basin not in bathroom poor design. It all felt like cost cutting was the main aim rather than guest comfort.

Review 46:The setting was beautiful and convenient, the access to lovely walks was great, and the onsen was wonderful.

Review 47:The room was not the nicest ryokan we were at but by far the most expensive.

Review 48:The kaiseki dinner in your room was excellent as was the view of the forest in the onsen.

Review 49:Loved the traditional feel of the place. They were also very accommodating and prepared a vegetarian meal for us with no hassle at all. Really lovely staff and free shuttle from the ferry was much appreciated.

Review 50:There wasn't really anything that comes to my mind which we didn't like. I can definitely tell you though that every negative thing that we read about the hotel before our stay seems to be wrong or corrected already. They are very hard working to make your stay an unforgettable experience. Total recommendation.

Review 51:We liked the welcoming politeness of all staff members, the cleanliness of the room and the overall hotel. They even provided a receptionist with perfect English-proficiency and asked us if we had any allergies concerning the food. The room maid, who served our dinners was also extremely helpful and polite and explained everything to us in quite good English. We were in the newer building, which looks like a normal hotel from the outside. The rooms though are totally designed to fit the classical looks of a japanese ryokan combined with modern accomodations (like an own toilet and bath in the room). Though the hot springs in the cellar of the hotel were sufficient enough. You could sit in the outside hot bath while watching the river flowing by and wild deer walking around. It was like a paradise! The location is also perfect: you walk about 4 minutes to the city center and the important sights in one direction and about 10-15 minutes to the ropeway station of Mt. Misen. Still you are in the midst of the forest. Also very nice was the shuttle service from the ferryport to the hotel and back. The price is high but the dinner and breakfast and the perfect location and experience make definitely up for it. We will come back and would recommend Hotel Iwaso to everyone, who likes to experience a ryokan while enjoying the beauty of Miyajima.

Review 52:The WI FI doesn't arrive to the rooms. Only in the hall.

Review 53:Wonderful japanesse dinner served in your own room. The outside Onsen is impressive. Nature sounds and sights of a forest and a river.

Review 54:This was an experience not a hotel stay or just staying in a traditional Japanese Ryokan. Staff were eager to help and explain - the location was great. The Japanese baths were the best I experienced in Japan - sitting in a hot bath watching deer foraging in the woods - perfect!

Review 55:The room was advertised with wifi yet wifi could only be accessed on the first floor. So we asked for a cable as the booklet in out room clearly stated that you could ask for a LAN cable in your room but that turned out to also be a cable downstairs that you had to use (downstairs). So no wifi in our room. When we arrived they asked us what we'd like for dinner and about any allergies or preferences and also what drink we would like (never mentioning that those drinks would cost us extra and weren't under the category of dinner). We only ordered one beer and a coke but still that was sneaky as and the charged us at the end if our stay. It was never mentioned to us that breakfast was to be on level one. Since our dinner was served in our room the previous night one would assume that breakfast would be provided in a similar manner. A man burst into our room to tell us to quickly get our breakfast on level one so we made our way. The drinks that we ordered were forgotten so we asked for them again and within half an hour we were kicked out of the breakfast room as they had to clean. The while place felt rushed and sneaky. It was supposed to be a nice relaxing surprise for my partner and I and I splashed a lot if money expecting something half decent. I must say I was very disappointed in our stay and wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Regardless of the ridiculous price I would still rather stay at many other hostels before this place, sorry.

Review 56:Beautiful ryokan with traditionnal japanese style rooms with access to the onsen. Delicious food. Staff very friendly and helpful, shuttle to the ferry on demand. Very close to the shrine and shopping street.

Review 57:We couldn't afford to stay any longer than two nights, but it was a lovely treat during our honeymoon to Japan.

Review 58:Staff are so friendly and helpful and made for a very personable and enjoyable stay. Room is clean, comfortable and spacious. Meal in room was excellent, as was the breakfast - we had the Japanese breakfast one morning and Western style the next. The onsen is so lovely and relaxing, just perfect. Great location close to the main sights, as well as the forest to the rear. Overall, a fantastic experience, recommended.

Review 59:The sleeping mats make for a very firm surface - not a complaint, just not so comfortable for "western" guests! Fine for a night in traditional surrounds.

Review 60:Very helpful staff. The view of the forest from our balcony was just lovely! I really enjoyed relaxing in the onsen late at night, listening to the river running by outside.

Review 61:Nothing

Review 62:Very quiet and decent ryokan. Good hospitality and traditional.

Review 63:Gracious service. Special experience. Baths were lovely.

Review 64:There was no wifi in the bedrooms. The bathroom was poorly lit and a little substandard.

Review 65:The food was interesting and innovative

Review 66:everything is very accurate and well done

Review 67:This ryokan was the best we did. Staff very friendly, food excellent.

Review 68:Atmosphere was superb. Incredible dinner (japanese).

Review 69:Sensational setting on a magical island of shrines, temples and Japanese parkland . Loved the traditional experience .

Review 70:The dedicated staff, personnal and warm welcome, attention to kids. Just perfect.

Review 71:The futon in the tatami room was very uncomfortable.

Review 72:The service, food, & spotless onsen.

Review 73:the breakfast in the restsurant was more like in an hotel than a ryokan.

Review 74:Wonderful experience, great staff. An experience to always remember.

Review 75:Location, Japanese style room, dinner

Review 76:all aspects of service were done to perfection

Review 77:The food was close to a disaster suggest eating out for all meals

Review 84:The staff, particularly our assigned hostess were very accommodating, courteous and wonderful.

Review 85:Would have liked to stay in a bigger room.

Review 86:Location in the park but still close to city center.

Review 87:Onsen is rad! Food, shuttle bus, service

Review 88:A little Pricey but worth it for a night

Review 89:Dinner was plentiful and delicious Onsen - Very nice Great views Service was top notch

Review 90:- the western breakfast could have been a little more western

Review 91:- the service - the cottages - the onsen - the japanese food

Review 92:Nothing!

Review 93:Everything! Real japanese experience! The dinner in the room and the onsen were amazing! The staff is so kindly!! Great position!

Review 94:quite old

Review 95:Onsen inside the hotel

Review 96:A little run down.

Review 97:Location was excellent;staff incredibly helpful and the hotel shuttle bus made everything a breeze esp on arrival n.departure.

Review 98:Great hotel and staff! They cater to your needs and ensure that your stay is pleasant.

Review 99:Food was amazing and dinner brought to your room. Onsen was amazing looking our into bush. Our personal watress was excellent

Review 100:Impeccable service and amenities Foods - both quality and service were outstanding. Authentic Japanese experience in terms of hot springs bathing, sleeping customs and cuisine.

Review 101:3 people booked in one room but the room size was too small and the price is too expensive.

Review 102:Good free shutle bus service, kind staffs, convinient location

Review 103:Towels need to be upgraded or washed with less detergent, they were so poorly absorbent. No designated place for one's belongings. Surprising lack of moisturizer.

Review 104:Kaiseki dinners were excellent. Attendant/servers were very personable, and their English was very good. Onsen was great. Facility and room was very clean. Great access to hiking Mt. Misen.

Review 105:Perfect location, pick-up from ferry port included. Views of trees and stream from the outdoor onsen. Great kaiseki dinner, with the added bonus that the waitress could explain the dishes in English - quite rare in a ryokan! All staff were lv

Review 106:Wifi only available on 1st and 2nd floors not in the rooms.

Review 107:The onsen was a wonderful experience and a definite must do as were the meals. Highly recommended!

Review 108:For the price, we felt the food could have been better. We were expecting exceptional fish. It was ok. We opted to sleep on futons. I've slept on futons before (at Mount Koya), these were hard and low. I asked for more padding, but it still wasn't enough.

Review 109:The Ryokan and the island both provide beauty and special experiences. We enjoyed staying in this type of Inn, the Onsen, the service and feeling well taken care off.

Review 110:Great location - very quiet and peaceful but close to the main shrines and convenient for the cable car up Mt Misen. Staff all very helpful. Lovely meal in our room, served course by course and all beautifully presented. Best oysters ever! Easy transfer from ferry and back by hotel minibus available as soon as requested.

Review 111:Price is high, however if you take into account the dinner which is very good, it's worth it !

Review 112:Perfect location High end Ryokan Wonderful onsen, with one indoor bath + one outdoor bath with view on the forest ! Nice breakfast+diner

Review 113:No wi-fi in the hotel. Western breakfast option could be improved. Pricey.

Review 114:Best ryokan we've been to. Great staff. Amazing onsen baths. Best japanese style dinner we had in our trip. Western breakfast option also available. Great location.

Review 115:Unleas you pay an arm and a leg to be in the old part of the building you find youself in a concreat building that has tiny rooms decorated to look like a ryokan.
