Reviews for Yamaichi Bekkan
Review 1:Meals were served at the restaurant and not in the room. Poor deers wandering around the island, yes even along the roads, the ryokans.... No lift, so be prepared to haul your luggage up to the higher floors if you so choose.
Review 2:Very Friendly and helpful proprietress. Great location, by the ferry terminal. A decent view of the terminal and the sea from the room on the third floor.
Review 3:The staff was extremely nice, hospitable and attentive. Although we came late at night (much later than scheduled) they offered us a wonderfully tasty and aesthetic vegetarian dinner and did not spare any explanations to introduce us to local culture and to the beautiful site situated very close to the ryokan.
Review 4:This place was absolutely superb I have given it 10 as I cannot think of any way in which it could be better! Shinko and her chef son Tepee are wonderful people, they checked on arrival what food we felt comfortable eating and a couple of courses we had were pretty much the best food I have eaten in my life (and one of these was a plate of their raw fish!). I think we were allocated a family room with divider so it was huge but everything was very comfortable and clean. It is also extremely well located. There are plenty of places to eat during the day on the island but few in the evening hence we opted to eat in which we would never normally do however I wouldn't miss it for the world. The island too is beautiful (definitely do the 20 minute climb above the 2 cable cars) and this experience was the highlight of our month in Japan.
Review 5:Outside looks a little old/rundown. Toilet was a little loud.
Review 6:Dinner was excellent. The owner was very cute and tried her best to make us happy. Spoke a little English. Hotel is very close to the station which was convenient. Miyajima is very pretty.
Review 7:It is not the cheapest place, but good luck trying to find one in Miyajima during high season. The hospitality and service of the staff makes it feel like well spent though.
Review 8:The staff and the owner went well beyond what was necessary to correct a small mistake in the booking. The ability to handle mistakes is the thing that distinguishes excellent hotels from the mere good ones.
Review 9:Easily two of the most delicious meals (dinner and breakfast) we have ever eaten. Cannot say enough good things about the owner. She made us feel welcome and comfortable. Would love to go back for another visit!
Review 10:Can't think of anything we didn't like.
Review 11:The room was lovely and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. The traditional Japanese breakfast was delicious.
Review 12:The hostess is very nice, very good with young children and so is her son. The room was perfect. Breakfast was fantastic. We just missed the hot bath but you don t get it everywhere. I will recommend this place.
Review 13:The host, Shinko was so friendly and accommodating and made our stay very enjoyable. The room was great. The location was excellent. Overall an extremely pleasant experience
Review 14:The room was small and quite expensive. Be prepared to climb the flights of stairs. The dinenr is pricey compared to other options.
Review 15:Very nice folks. The Japanese style room was very clean. The Japanese breakfast was quite large. The setting was very convenient.
Review 16:The hospitality given by the owner was kind and exceptional. The standard of the food was fantastic. We ate Japanese breakfasts and stayed for dinner on both nights. It was a truly memorable experience. Would definitely stay again.
Review 17:There is no lift but we managed. Also it is disturbing to any animal lover visiting Miyajima and seeing the tame deer that roam amongst the tourist eat maps, your clothes, shopping bags etc as they are hungry. The officials have banned the feeding of the deer in 2008 so they would return to the mountains but these deer are only use to being fed by humans so now they are starving and eating whatever they can, very disturbing to witness. I probably would not have visited Miyajima if I had known about this, I even signed an online petition to bring awareness to these officials.
Review 18:The location was right across from the ferry terminal and the owner operator spoke English and is very friendly.
Review 19:The dinner/breakfast menu was just slightly more expensive than other restaurants in town.
Review 20:This hotel is very easy to find and only a few steps away from the ferry wharf. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and respectful - even by Japanese standard.
Review 21:The stairs for elderly people with large suitcases but staff gave support
Review 22:Very friendly and helpfull with good basic knowledge of English. Dinner and breakfast good
Review 23:Hard to control air conditioner
Review 24:Good location, restaurant, comfortable rooms. I'd like to recommend this hotel for adult couples. Relaxing atmosphere, nice owner.
Review 25:While the Yamaichi Bekkan is not ostentatious or fancy, it is beautifully located next to the ferry landing, extremely cosy and comfortable, has a very very good cook and maybe the best oysters I ever saw, and really reminded me of the classic home away from home. Shinko-San was a truly wonderful host and we loved the cats too!! I would go back in a flash.
Review 26:Lovely hosts who are happy to help and chat. Amazing traditional rooms and great food. Great stay and great location-right near the ferry and ten mins walk to the gate. Highly recommend.
Review 27:Typical room size for Japan, which makes it hard to find space for a suitcase; note though that most guests would be travelling light for just a night or two.
Review 28:Excellent location close to the ferry and easy walking to restaurants and the temple and shrine. Wonderful, friendly, helpful staff who made you feel welcome. Restaurant with Japanese cuisine.
Review 29:staff are so friendly
Review 30:Wonderful location. Beautiful hosts. Lovely Japanese style room.
Review 31:Need a little redo but still nice

Review 35:The hospitality and how lovely everyone was. The breakfast and room were beautiful.
Review 36:Beautiful Japanese breakfast. Flower arrangements on every floor. Sinko at the desk delightful.
Review 37:Food was delicious, pleasant staff, good room...
Review 38:Overpriced, the tatami mattress needed to be renewed.
Review 39:Just opposite the port, very kind owner, excellent food.
Review 40:- Very nice, friendly staff - english spoken - Very nice room - Great location directly at the ferry landing - Great restaurant
Review 41:the room, owners,the food
Review 42:Fabulous authentic meals served. Beautiful tatami rooms and such easy access adjacent to ferry terminal. Very comfortable.
Review 43:Staff, food and room facilities great. Proximity to ferry useful and not noisy . Some of the best food we had in japan.
Review 44:Absolutely nothing!
Review 45:The kindest owner lady, the location, the enormous tatami room, the perfect food
Review 46:Very friendly staff, nice location, strongly recommended.
Review 47:Location - Very close to ferry terminal and easy to find Staff - Lady owner was incredibly kind and accommodating and could speak English well enough for us.
Review 48:There is nothing not to like!
Review 49:The best thing is the hostess, Shinko, who is fabulous - friendly, helpful, polite - beautifully Japanese. She made us very welcome and comfortable, such as lending us umbrellas when it rained. The dinners were excellent, especially the eel. The outside of the hotel is plain, but inside it is clean nicely decorated. The location was good, near the ferry, and only a short stroll to the O Torii gate. A lovely touch are the tame deer, which inhabit the island, outside the hotel door. I cannot recommend this place too highly.
Review 50:The tank of live eels in the lobby!!!
Review 51:The location was perfect…right in front of the ferry wharf. Our window looked out onto the street and was a good spot for people watching! It was an easy walk to all the main attractions. Our hostess was delightful and very obliging! Downstairs was a restaurant (which we didn't use) that catered well for locals.
Review 52:None.
Review 53:The landlady was very friendly and let us know about the local places to visit. Food included was dinner and breakfast the next day. There was the option to choose western or Japanese food. Me and my partner chose the Japanese food option. Food was from cooked from local produce, was fresh and delicious.
Review 54:The lady owner Shinko is so nice. I had quite a bad cold and when i was there and she's like a mum to me, asked me how i was each time she saw me. She gave me a box of Momiji when I left, that was very sweet of her. The meals included are so generous and delicious. And this ryokan is right in front of you after u get off the ferry.
Review 55:Our hotel was perfect. You couldn't have asked for more.
Review 56:1. Great location. Directly in front of Ferry entrance. If you walked more than one minute from the ferry station you went too far. It is a small business. Maybe 10 rooms. Not many people were there the night we stayed.2. Excellent staff and owner. The madame did everything to make our stay great. She provided dinner and made adjustments to the meal. (ie- Vegetarian). the meal was great. 3. Staff set up a hotel public bath appointment with a nearby hotel, since there was not one at the hotel. This was great as we had just returned from a hike up Mt. Misen which was cold and our bodies had become chilled. It was great to warm up in the hotel public bath and see the sunset. 3. Staff gave us directions on our hike and suggestions on the times and best routes to take. We started out on our hike up Mt. Misen around 2:00pm and got to the top in about 90 minutes. it was suggested that we catch the tram (ropeway) down. cost- 1000 yen one way per person. only 20 minutes to get down. the last tram was at 5pm. barely made it. we then caught a free shuttle bus to the very bottom of the mountain. Most of the business close up at 5:30pm. there is absolutely nothing open unless something is available at your hotel. we woke up the next day and toured Daishoin and the Shrine Temple. at such an iconic location, seeing the Miyajima Shrine up close and getting the best photos was truly memorable.
Review 57:Very obliging and friendly hostess. Large rooms. Clean. Easily accessible and close to the island's attractions. Extremely well presented affordable food. Great Japanese style stay
Review 58:Door closes at 10pm
Review 59:We arrived late but the owner waited for us. There were no restaurants open and she made us some rice balls for dinner. We had to extend for another day and she looked for a place for us because they were already fully booked the next day. As she said we found our Japan mom. Location is very nice.
Review 60:- Perfect location just in front of the harbour, but very quiet. - Very friendly and welcoming staff. The lady tenant speaks good english. - The japanese style rooms are just perfect and very comfy. - I recommend to have dinner at Yamaichi Bekkan. There is not a lot of open restaurants at night in Miyajima. Moreover the food is delicious, especially the oysters ! - Breakfast is also yummy (we had the western style breakfast)
Review 61:The staff were amazing and made us feel so welcome and it felt just like we were a house guest. The food was also very very good!! Whilst it was a bit pricey, it was worth it for the traditional japanese breakfast that was included, the excellent location just off the ferry and the amazing and lovely customer service :)
Review 62:We had a warm welcome and the location was superb - just across from the ferry but very quiet. It is a good place to have a ryokan experience, we had a comfortable tatami futon room, bed sheets are clean the Japanese breakfast was excellent. This is a superb place for a quiet and good night sleep. We did not realized all the shops on island closed early at night, n have missed dinner time, thanks to the lady shop owner of Yamaichi Bekka, for her kindness to specially arranged a delicious BBQ Oyster seafood dinner for us.
Review 63:The owner was very friendly and eager to please us. Dinner was very delicious. We did not have breakfast there. Location was very convenient, just across from the ferry dock.
Review 64:This hotel is located right across from the ferry terminal on Miyajima island, so it is very convenient. The staff were very friendly. The woman who runs the ryokan speaks English very well, and was very helpful. It is a very small ryokan, so it is very quiet and peaceful. I definitely recommend the Japanese style room, as it overlooks the ocean and the Japanese beds were the most comfortable beds we slept on in our entire visit to Japan (Western style beds tend to be very hard in Japan). Definitely plan to eat at the hotel. Everything closes early and opens late on the island. Dinner and breakfast were both very yummy, a lot of food and affordable.
Review 65:This is a gem find. It is right by the harbour so convenient on arrival, but extremely quiet for a good night's sleep. It is far lessexpensive than other over-priced accommodation on the island. The owneris charming and helpful and the meals I ate were delicious. Mirajima isenchanting. If you come to Japan stay here.
Review 66:Everything - service, advice, food, comfort.
Review 67:this hotel is hard to find as their is no English signage also could do with a make over
Review 68:the staff are fabulous and the meals we highly recommend
Review 69:ACTH out for these overprice poor quality hotel. No elevator your luggage has to drag two floors.
