Reviews for Capital Hostel

Review 1:The only improvement would be a sign outside the building so it's easier to find.

Review 2:Staff were really friendly and welcoming. The hostel was in a great location and had a good kitchen for preparing food. Useful transport links for all the major sights not in walking distance.

Review 3:Extremely difficult to find. Several apartment blocks with same number, and no indication of hostel outside the apartment block. Even locals trying to help when shown booking could not find it, and had to phone hostel. Staff on duty helpful but spoke very limited English. Reception not separate from one dorm and you have to walk through the dorm to reach one of the two bathrooms.

Review 4:Good location within walking distance of several Astana landmarks. Bus to airport very close.

Review 5:this hostel is very difficult to find and the directions provided (only upon request) were wholly and inexcusably inadequate. the hostel was highly rated for wifi, but i found the signal to be unreliable. the bed was also extremely uncomfortable.

Review 6:the live-in manager was friendly and helpful and did everything he could to overcome the language barrier. the private room was large with a pleasant view. the shower had great pressure and was always hot.

Review 7:It's not your typical hostel. Most of the guests 'live' there and go to work everyday and all so don't expect a hostel atmosphere. The place is pretty untidy and chaotic.

Review 8:Location is great. Smack in the middle of it all. You can walk pretty much anywhere and magic bus no.10 passes right in front (takes you to stations and airport). The staff is very relaxed. I checked out at 5pm. No pressure.

Review 9:Conversely the central location, because we didn't like central Astana at all. Better to stay out of centre in older part, which is nothing special, but more pleasant in our opinion. Buses are good in Astana and each bus stop has a good map (in cyrillic), so easy fairly easy to get around. Administrator is pretty good, but is hardly ever there. There is a lad who sort of half works there it seems (either by temperament, or by arrangement or both?), who can be a bit difficult and unhelpful at times. Other times he's ok. The hostel is on the 8th floor & you need a card to use the lift (ours stopped working anyway after a day), which they only give you once you've carted all your luggage up the stairs. Ask the lad mentioned above to pop down and operate the lift for you when you arrive. He might reluctantly agree to do that for you. Good luck! Could have been cleaner. Never seemed to be any toilet paper. They have 2 bathrooms, which are good but no separate toilet, so expect long queues for the loo in the morning and evenings sometimes too. One separate toilet would largely eliminate these problems. Building is new-ish but shoddy. Lights don't work on the stairs, etc, etc.

Review 10:Very central, but very difficult to find. It is signed posted though. See review below for good directions. For buses ask the conductor if it stops outside 'ministeer dom' (house of ministers). The hostel is across the road from it. Bus 10 which runs from the airport to the train station via the centre where the hostel is, is a good one to know. Decent facilities and pretty well equipped kitchen. Nice enough place overall and good value for money for Kazakhstan.

Review 11:Central location, spacious room, helpful staff, good facilities, better than most lower end hotels at half the price. I recommend this hostel to budget travellers.

Review 12:This is a great hostel. It's perfectly located right in the centre of Astana, within walking distance (or bus, if you're that way inclined) of all the major sights and attractions. The only problem is finding the place, as it isn't very well signed. The key is to think of it as on Zhetigen Street (also known as Orynbor Street), and not on Qonayev (Konaev) Street. Great location (when you know where it is), great price, unbelievable showers (in keeping with Astana's space-age theme!). A bit strange that they take a photo of your passport, but I can live with that!

Review 13:Was given a set of single sheets for me and a friend to sleep in a queen size bed Unclear who was in charge, limited English, we were unsure whether they were aware of our booking.

Review 14:Location Price Clean Bathroom is space age Good kitchen Nice room decor Laundry machine available

Review 15:A bit difficult to find as it is in a large residential block but people around will help

Review 16:Excellent central location Modern and large apartment

Review 17:Good location, near many city sights. Nice staff.

Review 18:Located in the city centre close to many shops, restaurants and shopping centres and also on several bus routes.

Review 19:The bathroom wasn't cleaned during my stay. Bed is ok, but could be more comfortable.

Review 20:Excellent location. Low price.

Review 21:Everything is OK (but take the bus 10 from Astana train station to go to this hotel and stop at the Ministry as shown in the picture).
