Reviews for Ryoso Kawaguchi

Review 1:Nothing! (I can't remember if i've gotten the wifi coz i'm using my own portable wifi).

Review 2:Everything!~ Location was great, very short walk from the ferry terminal to the hotel. And its also very very near the famous Miyajima Shrine (about 5-8 minutes walk?)Along the way, you can see wild deer and they are a lot tamer and less greedy than the ones you see'd at Nara.~ Staff was very very friendly and helpful.I was brought around the hotel for a short tour. The concierge lady provided me with as much information and recommendation as she could... Like what's the timing for the tide so that i can walk up to Miyajima Tori Gate, the famous must eat food at Hiroshima and which restaurant is recommended, where are they at...~ Room was surprisingly spacious!Or maybe my expectation of all rooms in Japan are going to be tiny hence i was pleasantly surprised. Bed is futon style and there're cupboards that store extra pillows and blankets if you need it (And coz it's like Doraemon style, i'm half tempted to try sleeping in it like Kagura just for laugh hahaa~ but i decided against it in the end.)There's even a balcony for you dry your clothes if you need it (but i didnt actually go to the balcony at all, except to check out what is it).~ There's only a toilet and basin in the washroom coz shower area is shared. Hence its small but why would you need such a big space for toilet anyway?~ Bath area is located on first level and is shared among guests. I'm fine with it coz its well-maintained and you get to lock the room while you're using it, so its not communal style. And, it has onsen bath!! After a cold night out, i felt grateful for the hot soak. I'd probably soak till i turn pruny if not for the fact that its already past midnight. The bath (2 for ladies, iirc), supposingly closed at 12midnight for cleaning. But the concierge told me to go ahead and use it so that i can have a good rest after soaking in the hot pool, even though i came strolling back to the hotel at 12.30am... I was honestly very touched.

Review 3:A wonderful traditional ryokan with English speaking staff. When booking I was a little worried not sure what to expect. Our room was delightful. The futon bed had already been made but the room was still very spacious around. It also had a private toilet and sink for brushing teeth etc. only the shower and bath were shared in the Japanese sense. This means there are two bathrooms open until 11 pm with an entry room with a sink and amenities like hairdryer cotton tips etc. The second room contains several showers and the onsen bath. The idea is the entire family uses the bath together which was not a problem for us. It was a wonderful experience. The owner warned us and I had worried that the rooms might get cold at night but the heating was very efficient it was quite toasty at all times. We did not have any meals there but free green tea and biscuits in the room. Highly recommended great value for money.

Review 4:Amazing traditionnal experience in this Ryokan. A bit expensive but a must try in Miyajima. Breakfast and dinner are amazingly good (and traditionnal), onsen after a long day walk in Miyajima is so relaxing and the staff is so kind, helpfull and discreet. Rooms are in traditionnal japanse style. One of our best experience during our Japan journey.

Review 5:Walls are a little thin, so keep your voice down. It is after all a very old building.

Review 6:The staff were very welcoming and the rooms were beautiful and comfortable. They pay so much attention to detail in the rooms, and in their service. Dinner was a real highlight. Don't miss it. The Onsen bath was terrific too. Just make sure the blinds are shut tight before you step inside.

Review 7:The cost of the dinner might seem pricey to some, but the ingredients were fresh, good quality, and you can tell they took a long time to prepare the dinner. Some might find the walls thin but my neighbours were quiet. You can hear people stirring in the hallway but otherwise it's fine.

Review 8:I loved eveyrthing about Ryoso Kawaguchi. The service was friendly and had tips to offer about areas to explore in Miyajima. She offered me a tour of the guesthouse and took me to my room, which had hot tea and a treat wating for me. The inn is a short walk from the ferry, and between the ferry port and the O-Torii shrine on Miyajima. My room was a good size, very clean, and had a private sink/washroom. There was a tv, mirror, small fridge, and closet. Amenities included yukata (cotton robe), toothbrush, and toothpaste. The best part was that although it was a shared shower/bath, you could actually lock it for privacy. A family could have a bath in the evening. The bathroom included soap, shampoo, conditioner, and a hairdryer. Breakfast is included, and I opted to try the Japanese breakfast. I also splurged and had dinner at Ryoso Kawaguchi as well. Both had beautiful presenation and were delicious.

Review 9:Have to book evening meal and breakfast 2 days in advance. Could book breakfast but not evening meal from booking. Com

Review 10:Lovely place to stay, good location.

Review 11:Dinner Food quality just so so. Breakfast is a lot better. Don't expected Japanese bath is not available in the morning, very disappointed.

Review 12:Location is good, hotel owner is friendly. Nice reading corner but didn't introduce when check in

Review 13:Despite a super friendly and accommodate Guesthouse tender, Ryoso Kawaguchi displays pricy services compares to other Ryokan located throughout Japan. My room was small and so were the baths (only 1 pers ones). The premises themselves are somehow common if a comparison with other Ryokans is needed. - onsen (way too small) +- food (despite a certain good quality of fresh fish and a tasty meat for dinner, still pricy / Ok for the price of breakfast) - overall price

Review 14:I was fortunate enough to enjoy a very comfortable futon under which another one had been set. Pillow was very comfortable too. Very good location. + futon/pillow in the bedroom and pleasant common room at last floor + super staff

Review 15:Our room was above the dining room, so unfortunately the music was infiltrating our room at all hours, making it difficult to get a peaceful rest. It's a little outdated, but that adds to the charm.

Review 16:The staff were SO kind, especially the woman running the place. She was ready to give advice about things to see and eat while on the island. The room was very clean and comfy. The private bath was fantastic! Staying overnight on the island is a must, so pretty and secluded after the last ferries leave.

Review 17:I loved everything about it! The staff were wonderful and informative and provided a really good map and brochure regarding the island. The facilities were also top notch, I had a bathroom all to myself and it was a traditional Japanese bath with a huge basin and I was floating on cloud nine. They provided a clean and comfortable yukata and the breakfast was a feast for the eyes and the palate. The location was wonderful as well - a few minutes walk and you reached the shore and within 15 minutes you can walk to the famous Torii gates. I am biased because Miyajima is my favourite place in Japan but this place is truly fantastic and I had a wonderful experience! Highly recommend it!

Review 18:Nothing

Review 19:We loved the large traditional tatami matt room with a lovely view of the internal garden. The onsen was great and we wished we could have stayed longer. Lovely staff and great breakfast.

Review 20:Nice old buiding with a little garden outside the breakfast room. The room was cute, and the owners where very nice. The location in the Miyajima village is great. Nice breakfast. Highly recommended.

Review 21:I like the Japanese dinner and breakfast served in the ryokan. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect in a quiet neighborhood but within short distance from most places in the island.

Review 22:wifi in rooms was a bit spotty, but overall worked. wish they had an english TV channel, but that's not a big issue :)

Review 23:probably the best accommodation of my entire trip in japan - comfortable rooms, lovely onsen (able to lock for privacy!) and DELICIOUS food. i had both dinner and western breakfast, and was super pleased. wish i could have stayed longer! location was perfect, right off main shopping street (note on the directions - turn left at the green cash corner sign, as the aforementioned police box no longer exists)

Review 24:Bring cash. There is 1 ATM on the island and it's not open 24/7.

Review 25:This homely inn makes a great introduction to staying at a ryokan. Shoes off on entry, your room will be small but comfortable, with a toilet and sink and futons for bedding. Food is simple but very tasty.

Review 26:The breakfast set is served in a very small portion. if you are a big breakfast fan, I would suggest you opt out this option and go find it elsewhere. There are plenty of restaurants just a block away.

Review 27:The location is great, right in the middle of everything within 10 minutes walking to the pier and all major attractions. If you are lucky enough, you might get the room with best view of 5-story pagoda just a block away. The owners couple are taking care of the client by themselves and very very helpful. It might not be the best Ryokan we have stayed in Japan, but highly recommend for a short stay to enjoy Miyajima.

Review 28:Owner can speak wonderfully fluent english and great at giving all the local hints. The 10 course dinner meal is a must-great presentation and service and seems like an authentic japanese dinig expereince.

Review 29:The staff were extremely hospitable. They even picked you up from the ferry terminal if requested, and explained what attractions could be visited. The food in the restaurant was also great.

Review 30:There was some noise from other guests, the wifi was a bit flaky. And at busy bathtimes it can be quite a wait for a bath.

Review 31:Staff were very friendly and helpful. The meals were not to be missed, and they were an excellent value. Our room was large and nicely appointed. The shared baths are very relaxing. The lounge is a pleasant place to chill, and it has a great view.

Review 32:Nothing really. Everything exceeded my expectations. Very pleased -- will recommend it to all my friends.

Review 33:Friendly staff who went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant. Offered to pick us up from the ferry when it was raining, and welcomed us warmly, even though we arrived quite late at night. Very comfortable rooms, quiet and tastefully decorated. Japanese breakfast was very good. Excellent value!

Review 34:Wifi kept disconnecting

Review 35:Amazing experience in a traditional ryokan! They provide you with a yukata and you can experience bathing in a japanese bath. The food is amazing and the staff are very nice. The owner even drove us to the ferry port when we were leaving because it was raining outside!

Review 36:Location is excellent. The owner is really nice. She explains everything you need to know about the ryokan and Miyajima. The japanes bath is awesome and you can lock the door so it becomes a private bathroom.

Review 37:Everything was great.

Review 38:A beautiful Japanese Ryokan experience. The owners were very attentive and extra extremely welcoming. The onsen was a great private experience. The dinner was very nice and accompanied by a fantastic service from the owner who explained each of the meals as they were presented.

Review 39:The food was out of this world, a great onsen and a really comfy 'bed'. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 40:Location, room and staff were great.

Review 41:The room wasn't soundproof.

Review 42:Friendly staff. Nice onsen.

Review 43:My trip was too short. I wish I could've stayed longer :)

Review 44:Everything.. Friendly, helpful staff.. Good location

Review 45:Amazing staff, extremely helpful with sightseeing information and lodging in a Ryokan. Great experience overall.

Review 46:Warm welcome in English. English language map provided with recommendations. Double thick futon was comfortable. Superb location.

Review 47:Wi Fi was intermittent and mostly cut out a lot.

Review 48:My room looked over the street with a view of the five step pagoda.

Review 49:The Kaeseki diner menu was so great The welcome of the owner

Review 50:lovely food, dinner as well as breakfast. also the shared baths are great!

Review 51:Wifi was a bit poor from our bedroom

Review 52:Japanese bathroom Close to everything Lovely host

Review 53:We liked our stay and would go there again.

Review 54:Rustic nature of the ryokan, friendly and knowledgeable owner, good location close to major attractions.

Review 55:Japanese feel of the place!

Review 56:not the best view from window

Review 57:Helpful staff with a reasonably good English. Good location.

Review 58:The breakfast was excellent!

Review 59:Amazing location, great staff. All in all: A+++++

Review 60:Hospitality and lodging were wonderful. They put special care into their meals and this was a big highlight

Review 61:Wifi was spotty

Review 62:Very friendly place, nice to be able to have the onsen to yourself.

Review 63:Beautiful building and comfortable rooms, I loved my stay here! With private onsen bathing facilities and excellent location it was perfect. The staff were very friendly and made me feel at home and I will definitely be back!

Review 64:The room was very nice, some furnishings are a bil worn though. Beautiful view of the little garden. Highlights were definetly dinner and the bath after an evening stroll by the coast.

Review 65:Not Ryoso Kawaguchi's fault at all, but there were some extremely noisy Spanish guests in the next room, who seemed not to be aware of the thinness of the walls or the peaceful ambiance of the inn. Wifi was a little flaky, but functional most of the time.

Review 66:The owners were extremely friendly and helpful, letting me know the high tide times to see the torii 'floating' (and when you could walk underneath it at low tide), and providing all sorts of other local information, including pointing me to two very good coffee shops (Miyajima Coffee and Sarasvati) that were just around the corner. Great location, only two minutes walk from the sea front, five minutes from the floating torii and ten from the ferry terminal. My room was comfortable and the private hot tubs were great. Definitely have dinner there (you have to prebook) -- the food was delicious and beautifully presented.

Review 67:the owners were wonderful!!!. arriving at the island we unfortunately started walking in the opposite direction of the ryokan thinking it be easy to find, and by chance a van pulls up seeing that we are lost tourist and offers direction. luckily been able to read hiragana the side of the van reads kawaguchi i tell the man that i have reservations at the ryokan. quickly he grabs our bags and insists on dropping us at the ryokan..a lifesaver i would have been walking for awhile looking for the place. the owner tells us when we get there her husband often drives around the island doing errands. Very nice place to stay, loved the private onsen exactly what we after a day out exploring. Dinner was fabulous. And the owners must be the nicest people i have meet in our 3 week trip in japan. only stayed a night..wish it could have been longer.

Review 68:Excellent staff, we were very comfortable at this site (hotel) for that old time Japanese feeling. The On Sen (bath) was great, enjoyed it tremendously. The staff also picked us up at the the ferry landing.

Review 69:again we would like to have stayed longer.

Review 70:Our host was very attentive and anticipated all our requirements . She was very friendly and helped with attractions and restaurant recommendations. The breakfast was of a high standard and showed great attention to detail. The outlook to the pagoda from the upstairs lounge was also a positive.

Review 71:This Ryokan was beautiful, quirky, clean, it has an amazing windowed lounge with a view of the Pagoda and sea. There are two private onsen with the added bonus of being able to change the temperature of the bath.

Review 72:Room was a little bit rough around the edges - not quite as nice as the other ryokkan rooms we stayed in.

Review 73:Fantastic food. Lovely staff. Good location. Great private onsen (natural hot bath)

Review 74:Couldn't find fault with this place

Review 75:Very friendly staff. They were able to accommodate our request to have the kaiseki with one day's notice and it was well worth it. The food was great, good value (it kept coming) and it was all explained along the way. They even provided a vegetarian option for my friend. The private bath is also very relaxing and the location is hard to beat. Great to stay here and get the island to yourself (and a few others) rather than the hordes during the day when the ferry is operating.

Review 76:No complaints. WiFi wasn't as fast as Tokyo or other big cities but was still more than adequate and free!

Review 77:This ryokan was one of our highlights on our trip to Japan - it is positioned a short walk from the ferry terminal and just off the main shopping strip and minutes from the main shrine and floating tori. The hosts were very warm and welcoming - the elderly lady who greeted us spoke decent English and was very enthusiastic about showing us all about her establishment and even explained how to use the cedar and stone bath properly (the bath is amazing!). The building is everything we expected from a traditional ryokan: wooden frame and floor, tatami mats, futons, and even a window looking out over s gorgeous Japanese garden. The elderly gentleman didn't appear to speak any English but was very friendly and warm and would run to fetch his wife if more than a few gestured was required. They recommended a great little place nearby for dinner as well.

Review 78:Not knowing we had to book dinner in advance and hence we missed out.

Review 79:Friendly helpful staff Great breakfast The bathrooms are a fab experience-my two year loved his first experience of Japanese bathing! Location is right beside all attractions The little viewing room on 3rd floor

Review 80:The futon was one of the most comfortable beds I've slept in. The staff was really nice, ran down the road to the shop just to check it was still open for us and gave us very useful information about the island. Felt like we were actually in a traditional home. Also enjoyed relaxing with green tea after our arrival under their warm table. Highly recommended. Would stay there again.

Review 81:Brilliant! An old-style ryokan perfectly situated in the very quiet street behind and parallel to the main shopping street 5 minutes or so walk from the ferry. Two smallish but excellent baths with lockable doors, so that they are suitable for family use. The delightful and very helpful proprietor suggested for lunch a tiny place just down the road where Hiroshima-style okonimiyaki was prepared in front of us as we sat at a counter drinking beer and taking pictures of the various stages. This had the advantage that one can indicate preferences as the process unfolds. The name okonomiyaki indicates that is it something you will like – so no problem (there at least) in asking for it to be adjusted to your taste – like no egg, or less of the rather sickly sauce that some obviously enjoy, but not us. Miyajima is well worth a visit – crazy shopping street, but lovely elsewhere – almost deserted at night (apart from the deer wandering the streets) when the day-trippers from Hiroshima have left – aim to dine early (say, by 7.30pm) or you may go to bed hungry! To get there; on the way out we took the fast ferry from the Peace Park, and on the return we took the short ferry back to the port at Hiroden-miyajima-guchi, which is the terminus for the no. 2 bus back to Hatchobori downtown (near our ryokan, Sera Bekkan).

Review 82:Absolutely nothing.

Review 83:It was an amazing place! Exceptionally Friendly and helpful staff with good English. Location was close to everything (within 5 minutes walk) which the owner gave maps to all the popular and best destinations on the island, telling us where to be careful when hiking on the island. It's is a family friendly and couple friendly ryokan with private family onsen (bath) and all facilities you could want in a ryokan or hotel. Did not try the meals in te dinning room but the smelled delicious. The owners were also so lovely to drive us to the docks for the ferry trip home. Would recommend to everyone as we will definitely be going back.

Review 84:Great room with a beautiful view into a small inner zen garden. The bathtubs on site were great as well for a relaxing soak after a day of traveling. Though we didn't eat the meals the restaurant provided, other travelers we met were raving about them. Very close to all of the major sights on the island.

Review 85:Lack of rooms is one demerit. Bed mattresses on the loft may hurt the back a little.

Review 86:The Ryokan, Onsen and Kaiseki package is an excellent experience near the World Heritage at Miyajima. The shopping street is but a few steps away and the host is an experienced English speaking hotelier. Yes, they clean your shoes too !

Review 87:Nothing...

Review 88:Everything from the friendly staff to the wonderful loft room. Both the dinner and breakfast was excellent...I could barely finish it...Wish I had the stomach space!

Review 89:We had a great time at Ryoso Kawaguchi! The location was perfect, thestaff was extremely friendly and helpful and made us feel right at home.Having stayed at multiple places throughout our month-long visit inJapan I can say this was one of my favorite places we stayed.Highly recommended!!!

Review 90:Everything! The lady who ran the place was incredibly helpful with lots of information. It is in a fantastic location - just one street behind the main shopping street, and only a 3 minute walk from the main shrine/torii gate. The dinner was incredible and a must have if you stay at this ryokan. The room was very large, the bedding was comfortable, and we had a private toilet in our room. The shared bath can still be used privately and is a great experience whether this is your first time in a Japanese bath, or one of many.

Review 91:We had pick up service from Miyajima ferry. The tourist info girl at Miyajima ferry station called Ryoso and within 5 mins they picked us up. The dinner was excellent 'japanese fine dining'. Breakfast was good but very small helping.

Review 92:Wonderful interiors, very wide room. Dinner was excellent, with an adorable little garden in the dining room! Very nice staff. Excellent position. Shuttle service available to the ferry terminal. It was the two most relaxing nights of our trip to Japan!

Review 93:nothing

Review 94:-the owner was a very grandmotherly old lady! she spoke really good english as well and happily answered all our questions -location was great too. easy walk from the main street -and you can bathe in private in a traditional Japanese bath

Review 95:Everything. The harmony of the accommodation with the beauty of the island. The friendliness and advice of the staff that help you to get everything out of your stay that you would want. The excuisite location close to all of the main sights. An excellent base to enjoy the atmosphere of the island for a very reasonable price.

Review 96:The room was very nice and big, with a western toilet IN the room, bath downstairs. The woman that runs it was very nice. Its a few minutes walk to the picturesque O-tori Gate. I would recommend this place.

Review 97:This is a booking.com problem and not a Ryoso Kawaguchi problem, but youneed to book meals in advance if you want them, and booking.comdoesn't tell you this/allow you to - you have to go to thehotel's own website

Review 98:Very comfortable modern Japanese b-and-b (rooms have owntoilet/handbasin, shared baths), friendly helpful staff, good valuemeals, good location.

Review 99:Large traditionnal well equipped japanese room (with tatamis and futons) Private toilet "Private" onsen (japanese hot bath) Very friendly & helpful staff (english speaking) Nice location in Miyajima center

Review 100:Nothing!

Review 101:The bath was shared but private. And it was a hot spring bath! Very nice. Room was comfortable and the staff were friendly and very helpful.

Review 102:Staff were faultless - went to every effort to ensure that guests felt welcome. The meals prepared by the Ryoso were incredible, immaculately presented, and delicious. Very highly recommended.

Review 103:Miyajima is a great place to visit and this ryokan is a perfect option to stay in the island. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Excellent location. A good value for money.

Review 104:- The family that runs the place is really helpful! No wonder it has great reviews. They pick you up from the ferry as soon as you arrive. They give you all the information there is to know about Miyajima with regards to opening times and things to see. The ryokan style is very comfortable and even to have a shower, you can lock the bathroom not like other ryokan accommodations.

Review 105:Staff are very welcoming and friendly. The dinner at the Ryokan wasamazing (but is extra and you have to request beforehand, I did this byemail through their website). The room was large (very large by Japanesestandards) and clean. The onsen/bath on site was very nice and likedthat fact that it's private (you lock it once you're inside) asopposed to the communal experience at most other onsens. They will alsopick you up from the Ferry station if you call as you're boardingthe ferry. The van has the ryokan's name written in Japanese but notin English but the driver recognized me as he saw me looking around. Thelocation is great as it's a few minutes walk to the Itsukushimatemple/shrine area. This place and Iwajima overall was one of thehighlights of my Japan trip.

Review 106:Please put a sign outside your business. We arrived on a rainy night. There is a handwritten note on the ground in front of a pot that is thesize of two note cards. A business needs a decent sized sign up highenough to be seen by customers and that is lighted. If it an be inenglish Nd japanese that would be appreciated by one and all. Iunderstand the desire to make your business look like a home butit's a business and Kyoto streets are very confusing. The other mainissue is the bathrooms. They smelled horrible. They smelledl so bad youdon't want to use them. Not sure what it is but the floors are anuneven surface and I think you need to scrub the hell out of lthem withhot bleach water. And this is in winter. What it's like in summer...

Review 107:Location and the design of the building.

Review 108:A great place to stay and a wonderful place to be. I would recommend this place to a best friend. You should definitively try it. The night following the one we had stayed at the Ryokan we stayed at Crowne Plaza Hiroshima, and I missed the Ryokan's Japanesse style shower.

Review 109:Amazing service. The lady who runs the place is so helpful andwelcoming. The food is great. Definitely recommend booking the breakfastand dinner. The bathroom is a Japanese style bath with a large hot tuband showers. The location is great. Staying in Miyajima overnight and going for sunset walks after all of the day trippers have left was very relaxing and atmospheric. The experience was surreal.

Review 110:Good experience
