Reviews for Hostel & Cafe Backpackers Miyajima
Review 1:However, the Sound insulation is poor, I can even hear the voice from the next door. furthermore, there is only one socket available. It's not enough!
Review 2:The location is good, near the ferry and train station. There is a locker for every guest to keep the baggage and the facilities look new.
Review 3:1) The toilet bowl doesn't seems to heat up (during winter)
Review 4:1) Excellent service from the friendly staffs 2) The location is great, 5 minutes walking distance from the JR station 3) The place feels comfortable
Review 5:- A bit outdated compare to hostels in Hiroshima city - Only 1 shower for sharing on my floor - Not really clean (Japanese standard though) in the bathroom/toilet with hair
Review 6:If you plan to hop on to the first few ferry to Miyajima the location would make perfect sense. Otherwise it is far from everything, 30-40mins to Hiroshima city center.
Review 7:No keycard if you return late. There's a combination lock that I couldn't remember so was locked out for a while till someone let me in.
Review 8:Staff and the activities in the evenings they organised were things I appreciated. Made me want to stay in longer.
Review 9:The bed is basically a futon mattress so it is quite hard. I still slept well.
Review 10:The staff is really nice and friendly. They have a cool common area with a kitchen. It is located not even a two minute walk from the ferry that takes you to the itsukushima shrine.
Review 11:Great location next to the ferry port for Miyajima, and only a short train ride to Hiroshima (free with JR Pass). The staff are so lovely and the facilities are clean and comfortable. Great place to stay!
Review 12:My bed was not exactly clean, there was dirt all over it that I had to pat off.
Review 13:I loved that the staff were so enthusiastic and helpful. The room was crammed but not too bad for the amount I paid.
Review 14:Thought the place was really comfortable, the room was quite bright at night and people who came home after 10 pm were very noisy.
Review 15:The staff was incredibly nice and it was easy to get to know other travelers. Being close to both the station and the port, the location is perfect.
Review 16:Really friendly and helpful staff. There is a good vibe at the hostel and you can meet a lot of people in the common room. The hostel is next to the ferry to the island. You can not get closer to the ferry than this. The staff also organizes activities such as cooking japanese food.
Review 17:Location is perfect if you wanna visit Miyajima and couldn't stay there overnight. You're on the harbour, 1min from the ferry terminal and 3 min from Miyajimaguchi station. very nice staff, good atmosphere, clean spaces. Good!
Review 18:There were signs on the doors telling people to stay quiet late at night and in the morning, but people were loudly talking around the lockers and loudly moving their stuff in and out of the lockers. This would have been fine if there were doors on each room or the lockers were on another floor away from where the beds are.
Review 19:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The space is small, but nicely organised. The location is very conveniently located close to the train station and the Miyajima ferry.
Review 20:Nothing :)
Review 21:Super friendly staff (by the way, they all speak English), located 4 mins from the train station and 2 mins from the ferry pier. Nice bar downstairs. They will keep your luggage for free before check in or after check out.
Review 22:the bed and the idea that you can hear anyone snore. the bed is good for asians only and if you are tall you can't fit in. it will be really for your to fix your things during midnight. you have to do it outside
Review 23:the location is so near and there are restaurants around the corner shower and toilet are comfortable to use
Review 24:The location is the best for getting quickly to Miyajima Island. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. On one night they ran a curry night, which was really nice to come back to after a long day over on the island.
Review 25:Location is fantastic - to the station (Hiroshima)and to the ferry (Miyajima Island). Staff was INCREDIBLE kind, interested and helpful - they make you feel at home immediately!!:) Beds with curtains, restroom area,showers,wi-fi,bar area, laundry machine - all fantastic!! Best hostel I have ever been so far...
Review 26:Austere but clean facilities, good atmosphere and very helpful staff. Recommended for solo travellers or group of friends. It's a quite convenient place to start/finish your trip to Miyajima island in case that you couldn't book a hotel in the island or you don't want to spend a lot of money.
Review 27:Staffs are very friendly, you can rent a cycle for free, washrooms are clean and tidy. Great value for backpackers, location is excellent if you want to explore Miyajima after evening also :-)
Review 28:The WiFi could be very slow at sometimes. The walls between the rooms was very thin.
Review 29:The spot is perfect, so close to the ferry to miyajima. The staff treated you like a family.
Review 30:Perfect location and really friendly staff, plus on the night I stayed they were making a Japanese dinner for only 500 yen. It was so nice to have a home cooked meal after traveling all day.
Review 31:There is nothing I can't think off!
Review 32:Great bed, shower, location and the staff is incredibly kind. One of the best hostels I have ever been to. If you like to meet people and want to relax with a lot of islands next to you, this hostel is a must. Everything is close from here: the station, grocery stores, Miyajima Island (Ferry Station is 2 minutes walking), onsens and more.
Review 33:My only critique (and it hardly matters) is there is a lack of non-Japanese breakfast options nearby. Yes this is Japan, and yes I know most travelers won't even notice . I'm a resident of Japan and I was just a little rice and noodled out.
Review 34:The staff was so friendly, from the moment I walked through the door until the moment I left. I almost didn't want to leave. I have to say the other guests also made it fun. Everyone was ease and easy to talk to. One of the best places I've stayed in Asia. Many thanks to the staff - they have a good thing happening there.
Review 35:The beds look a bit cold.
Review 36:Good location, right next to teh fairy to Miyajima and also next to the train station (25min) to Hiroshima - you can easily make a daytrip to the peace museum etc. Also very friendly, warmhearted, living room-like, a roof terrace and a tatami-sitting-corner. Also books (guides, novels) to lend!! Very helpful staff.
Review 37:The only thing i did not like is that the bar closes at 10.
Review 38:Everything, super friendly staff. The best and most fun hostel i've been to. A great view in the roof top
Review 39:Dorm rooms are quite large so it can get a little noisy in the morning
Review 40:Super nice staff, very clean, nice common space and just across from the ferries to the island!
Review 41:The staff is VERY friendly and make the stay really enjoyable. The guest house is ideally positioned to visit miyajima and you can also get to Hiroshima in half an hour from there.
Review 42:nothing really!
Review 43:Everything! The staff are a bunch of young, energized girls who are so friendly and helpful! They organized a free face painting event during my one night stay. I feel this is a hostel where you can really connect to other travelers. Wish I could stay longer!
Review 44:There was a little bit of noise from a couple of people which set of an uproar ! However this was rare as most people did respect the no noise/ quiet rule. Other than that I was happy with the hostel.
Review 45:The staff were so friendly and helpful! We dropped off our bags and headed for hiroshima with ease on the first day (with early check in ).Later when we returned to check in the staff member saki, helped take up our bags and explained each part of the hostel. This was my first experience in a dorm room (me and my sister chose a female dorm) - the room was tidy and clean. It wasn't the trendiest place I've been on but perfect for the location of the hostel! We had curtains on the bed for extra privacy and the lights went off at 10 or 11 (can't remember exactly). We left early before check out at 4am which was fine to do and simple as putting the key in the box. We never went into the main cafe area because we were so tired but it looked like a very friendly and social place - great for a solo traveller!
Review 46:Situated perfectly beside the Port to get the ferry to Miyajima. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Accommodation was great plus very comfortable bed and the wifi was very good as well.
Review 47:There really are 15 bunk beds in one room. There is very little wiggle room and no chance of falling asleep early due to noise. Only one shower for the whole dorm!
Review 48:Great location, staff let me check-in very late (just had to call), info sheet is clear, showers/ bathroom very clean, lockers and a large fridge inside the dorm room itself.
Review 49:Really friendly staff. Liked them so much. They really care for their guests. The bluebird cafe near the station and not far away from the hostel. You have to check it out!!
Review 50:Lobby was cramped. It looked like a nice place to hang out and have some night cap drinks but there was not much space to feel comfortable.
Review 51:Super friendly staff. Thanks to Saki for making us feel welcome. Facilities were nice. The bar area was nice.
Review 52:Nothing
Review 53:Amazing staff and atmosphere. Everyone is so nice to you and are always willing to strike up a conversation with one another. Definitely would return!
Review 54:I didn't stay long enough! There was too much to do and see in theday + 1/2 that I was there.
Review 55:The moment I arrived, I was greeted with the most friendly, hospitablewonderful staff! The other guests were just as welcoming... The two daysI spent in Miyajima were perhaps two of the top days of my life, and alot of it had to do with the fact that I chose to stay at Hostel &Cafe Backpackers Miyajima! Exceeded my expectations, and I absolutelylove the staff here! I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. Stayingat this hostel made my trip what it was - I would have had a lesserexperience anywhere else. Staying here will ensure you have the time ofyour life.
Review 56:This was the friendliest place I've ever had the pleasure of staying at. The staff was phenomenal, and the other travelers were all interesting to talk to! The night I was there we made gyoza, and that was really fun. I'd recommend this place to anyone!!!
Review 57:Stayed for two nights and loved it all. Staff are so friendly and love socialising with all the guest. They have created a great social atmosphere that facilitated some rather late nights of good clean fun.
Review 58:Absolutely loved this hostel. It was my favourite hostel so far in Japan. The staff are amazing and so much fun! The atmosphere is excellent and there is always a nice buzz about the place. We were only meant to stay for two nights but stayed for five and found it so hard to leave. The hostel organised dinner for all the guests one day and then a camping trip on the island another and also a DVD night just to relax :). Can't say enough good things this place is just great! The location is also really good being right beside the ferry port that goes to the island and the boat only takes 10 minutes. We also preferred staying on the mainland because everything on the island pretty much shuts down around 7
Review 59:stayed in dorms. very uncomfortable, squeezed, with no shelf near the bed or something. the light turns off automaticaly but still there is an annoying light during all night coming from a emergency light. also one shower for so many people on each floor.. it was clean and well air-con'd though
Review 60:the place is almost next to the ferry stop and close to the train, too. easy to find. a very clean place with super friendly staff! apart from the uncomfortable bed part (too little space, small bathrooms), everything was very nice!
Review 61:Nothing to say here!!! Nothing!
Review 62:I loved how the staff was so friendly and kind to everyone. They would even say goodbye to travelers as they went on their way. Other than that, they had everything I could expect from a well-run hostel and it was very clean! I wish my stay in Hiroshima was, in part because of that awesome hostel.
Review 63:The staff are extremely friendly and even brought us out to a local festival and karaoke session during our stay, along with hosting a takoyaki party in the hostel one night. They went above and beyond for us. Their English is also excellent. Very recently renovated and the hole building is spotless and top notch all round. Probably the best hostel I've ever stayed in.
Review 64:The beds are not private - there's no curtain or anything to prevent others from watching you sleep. It can get pretty loud in the shared room.
Review 65:The people who work here are so friendly. A bunch of guests and me went out to a festival in Hiroshima with a few of the employees, and it was unforgettable. The view from the roof is also nice. It's inexpensive, too!
Review 66:The inn is located just off the Miyajima ferry port. The staff is extremely friendly and they have a nice lounge/bar area to take some of the ache away from your sore muscles ^^
Review 67:Walls are paper thin so it feels like a 32 bed room rather than an 8 in the dorms, just one shower but was always free for me so not an issue.
Review 68:Staff were really nice and always socializing which was cool. This would be really good for the solo traveller.
Review 69:staff was really friendly and open. We felt there very well. Hostel itself wasn't so busy like the others that we've been to were, so I was something special about this place. And it's so close to a ferry and JR station
Review 70:I wish that the beds had a little more privacy. Maybe a small curtain would be enough.
Review 71:The staff was very, very nice and helpful! Everything was clean and I liked the lockers that were provided.
Review 72:Enjoyed my 2 nights here, although dorm was quite crowded, it was quite when I was there. Very clean. A nice common area/bar to meet with people on the road. Very easy to access Miyajima island and Hiroshima. Free locker was a bonus.
Review 73:The bar/kitchen area was not completely cleaned by morning. Although not have breakfast was ok, there wasn't coffee or tea either.
Review 74:The hostel was located right on the river. The staff was very friendly and there was a nice bar downstairs.
Review 75:Great atmosphere, I stayed here two years ago but the place has just been completely refurbished to a high standard. Free rice and tin of food very good. Staff have always been great here.
Review 76:Other people in our dorm who wouldn't shut up at night, but that's not the places fault, that's just rude people for you.
Review 77:Location, staff, and cleanliness
Review 78:A bit noisy but not bad. And a little crowded but to be expected. Fridge broken when I was here but shops nearby so no real need to have one.
Review 79:Friendly staff, very clean, excellent shower, good location for visiting Island and accessing Hiroshima. Good to have own locker too
Review 80:Dorm room had something 20 beds, with narrow corridors between. Way too cramped noisy and smelly.
Review 81:Super cool, friendly staff. Nice social common area, great for meeting people. And of course, location is perfect for getting to Miyajima and visiting Hiroshima
Review 82:Relaxed atmosphere, staff are very proactive in welcoming newcomers and make them fit right in. Free welcome drink, bar closes around 11, but there's a convenience store just across the road. Great for solo backpackers
Review 83:There are many beds in the big dorm where I stayed and although small lockers are provided, there is no space to store luggage - well, only next to the bed of course, but since the corridor is narrow, it gets quickly crowded. It would help to remove one (bunk)bed and leave it as space to store luggage instead - the place would get more "breathable". Also, I think one shower for the whole floor was not quite enough at "rush hours".
Review 84:The hostel is renewed, clean and feels comfortable. Staff is very kind and offers personal welcome. Free welcome on the first evening :) Location is perfect, 5min from train station and just next to the ferry port to Miyajima island. Convenience store nearby. I would sure recommend this hostel and would myself stay again. The bar on the ground floor is open to guests as well as ppl from outside and provides nice place to meet and chat with people
Review 85:My bunk bed was placed quite close to a door where white florescent lights would stay on all night. It was a little disturbing to stay asleep but it was a "I can't sleep at all" situation. I would like to see a small curtain or something to block the light out and maybe create a bit of privacy when sleeping. I must say these are very small issues. I would no hesitate to stay here again even if these issues are still present :)
Review 86:They had a bar in the place and offered you a free drink for the night of your stay. I don't know if it was a promotion or a long term thing but they were also offering some canned food (expensive in Japan) as a gift for staying too. Overall, great staff, great time at the bar, and just great value for what you get. I would so totally stay there again if I go back to Hiroshima!
Review 87:One shower for each floor (20 people to be served) is a bit difficult if you in the rush.
Review 88:Staff is amazing! Atmosphere is great in social area and bar. Dorms are comfortable. Location, location, location! Rooftop view.
Review 89:There was nowhere to eat around the backpackers at all. People that worked there had made some food and shared it with everyone but my daughter and I. We had to go to 7/11 to buy some food. They made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome.
Review 90:It was a great location, and the price was good.
Review 91:The staff was all very friendly and everyone in the hostel was all very polite and welcoming. It was great to see the staff mingling with the visitors and helping them find ways to enjoy their stay as much as possible. I would highly recommend this hostel to all travelers
Review 92:Location: Conveniently nestled between JR Miyajimaguchi and the Ferry docks, BP Miyajima is a short 5min walk from all the facilities one might need. There are plenty of convience stores and shops around as well. Staff: The hotel owes its fine reputation to the staff. There is a genuine sense of companionship and welcoming offered to all guests alike. If you're lucky, they sometimes hold events such as camping, group dinner and other fun activities. Rooms: Bunkbeds were modern and well furnished. Rooms were fitted with rows of big (2m tall) lockers for personal use. Wifi: Standard speed, requires password.
Review 93:Only a curtain at the end of the bed, so noise is still heard (this was not too bad when I stayed there).
Review 94:Good backpackers. Very close to ferry terminal (I was headed to Yakushima). Capsule bed had a simple, old, futon in it, but that was fine. Fresh clean sheets.
Review 95:- walls between dorms very thin - kitchen is ok - many signs indicating 'staff only' on storage areas - fire doors propped open, plan how you would escape in a fire - bathroom basins have no hotwater
Review 96:quiet location, good kitchen, big lounge area
Review 97:It's a little away from everything else, like night life places.
Review 98:The staff is very friendly and helpful. They even offer meals/ events every night at a price. I think this is convenient since there aren't many restaurants/ bars around the area and those that are there close early.
Review 99:The inside is a bit ascetic with concrete walls and ceilings.
Review 100:Great staff, awesome people and great atmosphere. Met a lot of great people there. If you want to have good time and laugh, start a conversation with one of the english speaking staff. Yoshi, Logan and Travis, they know how to entertain people!
Review 101:it's noisy in the morning when everybody slam their own lockers before leaving the hostel... but this is unavoidable
Review 102:Staff is incredibly kind and helpful! Our 3 bunk beds in 30persons dormitory was definitely much better than our expectations: as a after of fact we can define the dormitory shared by curtains in 4 bunk beds virtual rooms.
Review 103:Despite air con, it was really hot at night.
Review 104:Very friendly staff, really sociable layout. Location, (while it took me a while to find) is perfectly positioned near restaurants a conbini as well as the station and ferry port. (All less than five mins walk). Greatly enjoyed my stay!
Review 105:I loved my stay at the backpackers Miyajima. Not only is the location perfect, the staff is great and they have all sorts of fun events for the guests to participate in. I would definitely go back, I loved it!
Review 106:kitchen could be bigger the 7-minute-shower limit
Review 107:close to ferry terminal common room is good to hang out, many games and stuff enough sockets for everyone
Review 108:The bunks should have privacy curtains. The exit light in the sleeping area is really bright (even though mostly covered -- maybe get a different kind?) and the window right next to the bed was not covered so it's bright and early morning.
Review 109:Excellent location next to the ferry. Clean environment with great facilities and staff.
Review 110:Not alot of supermarkets around. Only a 7 Eleven close by, but not much choices for food.
Review 111:Very close to train station. Good value for your money. Good wifi. The staff, even though she had limited English, was really helpful.
Review 112:I thought from the information that I had read that it was on the island. In the end it didn't matter but the name gives that impression
Review 113:The staff were particularly friendly and helpful. The quietness around the dorm areas was appreciated. The general mood and ambiance was great
Review 114:Wonderful place to enjoy Miyajima! The host was spetacular and very friendly, for him is definitely a pleasure get all together!strongly recommend!!!!
Review 115:curtain in each bunk bed would be nice to have for a bit of privacy.
Review 116:walking distance to the train station, ferry and convenience store. very friendly english speaking staff.
Review 117:nobody told me it would be that awesome there :P
Review 118:everything was really good. the staff there were exellent companie to hang out and to celebrate.we all ate every evening some great food togethere and just talk for as long as we could about anything and everything.
Review 119:it is not convenient to take shower and very crowded
Review 120:It is fine for the money
Review 121:Fantastic location (1 min to miyajima ferry port, 5min to JR station), nice staff, pretty website, and good beer.
Review 122:The enthusiastic and helpful staff really brighten our stay.
Review 123:One shower per floor.
Review 124:Very friendly and enthusiastic staff.
