Reviews for Hotel Miya Rikyu
Review 1:Needs renovation, run down old upper class ryokan. The lavish dinner tasted mediocre. Usually serves ryokan dinners in the rooms, but this ryokan use a canteen. No internet in rooms, only wifi in the lobby.
Review 2:Perfect location between the Ferry and the great Torii. Sea view from the room (but no view of Torii). Drumshow in the evening.
Review 3:We stayed 2 nights there with different booking agents due to change of schedule. The first night stay was terrible. The room (#506) is small for 4 pax (similar size to our 2nd night stay which is for 2 pax a room). Only 1 layer of futon bed is provided, it was a torture to our old bones for sleeping on the hardwood. Toilet seat is not functioning too ? No different for Seaview or Mountain view as both can't see the Torii from the room.
Review 4:Hotel is near to the ferry terminal. Hotel staff is friendly. Dinner is not bad. Forgot to inform 1 of my friends doesn't eat beef but they changed her main dish to abalone ?
Review 5:This was our first hotel in Japan. The lovely, charming young staff at reception gave us a great first impression of the country which was confirmed everywhere we went.
Review 6:The hotel was slightly shabby - cracked tiles in the bathroom had been filled in and pasted over, paintwork was scratched etc. Not a great view from the room - overlooked a stone wall.
Review 7:We wanted to experience a typical Japanese hotel - which we did but to downside was that there was virtually no English and so we didn't understand etiquette and opportunities available. The room was large and the futons comfortable
Review 8:Check in time is quite late at 3 pm and check out is early at 10 aM
Review 9:Excellent service, location and made me experience the ryokan the way it should be
Review 10:Poor quality room. The room was in poor repair with much chipped and damage paintwork. The room was small and the hallways stank of poor ventilation and cooking smells from the kitchen
Review 11:Friendly and helpful staff
Review 12:Value for money balance not exactly right. Score comes to 8.3 but i would give it more like a 7 out of 10. Do stay in Miyajima however. Don't take a day-trip! Doesn't matter where you stay.
Review 13:Food was pretty good; bed was comfortable; karaoke bar cheesy but good fun.
Review 14:Nothing to not like. The breakfast had many choices.
Review 15:The extravagant dinner was an experience. The two ladies who served us were so happy and pleasant in their duties . It was very memorable
Review 16:Said there was a bar which there wasn't.
Review 17:The location and views were awesome. The onsens was especially lovely in the morning. I stayed there to show a friend what a Japanese ryokan was like and I think this was a great experience for her. A little pricey but it is a real treat.
Review 18:We didn't realise that really you should arrive at a ryokan hotel around 6 pm at the latest. The staff were extremely accommodating and had our meal set up beautifully in our room for us. Phenomenal location a short stroll from the shrine ... especially important with our hotel umbrella since the weather wasn't great
Review 19:The stuff is very polite. The dinner set is superb good.Hotel location is best cause it's near the shopping street and near the pier.Just 5 minutes walk from the pier and a few minute from the shopping street. There is drum show at the hotel after dinner.Onsen is also good.
Review 20:I went back to this ryokan as I stayed there 2 years ago and I had a very good memory back then such as nicely prepared meal in served in my room. This time I booked through booking.com and was told that I had to go to the public restaurant at the basement for my dinner. I protested as this is not how ryokans works. As I can see all Japanese customers had their meals served in their room and westerners were having their meals in the basement restaurant. I got my meal served in my room in the end but the process of communicating with the hotel to get it was not pleasant.
Review 21:The pubic bath
Review 22:Of all the ryokans I have stayed at in Japan, this is the one that has disapointed me. Our rooms was supposed to have "mountain view" but turned out to be facing a high wall. For Japan it was a bit disorganized and the staff was a bit sloppy. For example they told us that the bath would be open in the morning until check-out time, but when we went there after breakfast the gentlemens side was closed for cleaning. At the breakfast buffe they ran out of several things. There was also a missunderstanding regarding the dinner for our kids. At check in I tried to confirm that the kids would have a kids menu, but at dinner they still got the regular menu, of wich they ate almost nothing (but the grown up part of our party enjoyed the food very much). The staff didn't speak very good English, which led to this missunderstanding and difficulties in solving the problem.
Review 23:Really good location. Nice rooms and public bath. The dinner was delicious. The kareoke box was fun! We very much enjoyed to stay at Miyajima, especially the Daisho-in shrine, but this ryokan (together with the shopping street between the ferry terminal and the great tori gate) was a bit of a tourist trap.
Review 24:overall satisfy..
Review 25:dinner and breakfast provided in the hotel appropriate.excellent location, only a short walk from ferry terminal.comfortable tatami bed.
Review 26:Nothing
Review 27:Loved the little island of Miyajima. Friendly staff and people (like our entire experience in Japan) Beautiful old style Japanese inn mixed with modern hotel facilities Would recommend to anyone
Review 28:Stayed with teenage daughter with gourmet dinner included - which was exellent. Also enjoyed the futon. Despite lousy weather, great island to visit and don't miss Daisho-in temple up the hill, far better than the Itsukushima shrine - imo.
Review 29:nothing
Review 30:located in between the ferry pier and the torii/Itsukushima Shrine dinner and breakfast are good
Review 31:Very accommodating staff.
Review 32:Smork smell
Review 33:Very
Review 34:Great staff, service, massive meals, drum show, and great location in relation to the ferry.
Review 35:We got a room facing inland cos the rooms were very quickly taken up. Sea-view rooms are more pricey - you prob can see the sea, but unlikely u'll get to see the torii from your room as there's a university building just diagonal across the road which most likely blocks view of torii. (But then again, the torii is only 5mins walk away - just head out at night to enjoy the torii in the cool night breeze and moonlight).
Review 36:Stayed at Miya Rikyu on a Sunday. Location wise was a good choice - a few min's walk away from the pier, it saves u a lot of pain if u were carrying a lot of luggage. In addition, it is only 5mins walk to the torii - and you can get simply stroll over at night to enjoy the torii lit up by flood lights. Staff were really friendly and helpful, and they also had English speaking staff. Pleasant onsen experience, with a view of the torii from one of the onsen (the male and female onsens rotate every morning). For a hotel/ryokan experience, felt it was fairly priced for its location on Miyajima + the delicious kaiseki dinner included. Basic amenities were present as per a normal Japanese-styled guest room. All in all, a really good experience overnight on Miyajima. No regrets on booking this hotel.
Review 37:No complaints.
Review 38:I really liked that it was so close to all the tourist attractions in Miyajima. The food was delicious as well...it was so much food for one person. I also appreciated the taiko performance.
Review 39:Very good dinner. We ordered vegetarian food, and we had an amazing Japanese style veggie dinner.
Review 40:Extremely friendly staff and very welcoming environment!
Review 41:Rooms were a bit noisy.
Review 42:Excellent location, excellent staff altough not always understanding English.
Review 43:Atmosphere in dining room
Review 44:Great location, friendly staff, good size room, great dinner
