Reviews for Miyajima Hotel Makoto

Review 1:Staffs are really kind ppl, helping me have no problem visiting Miyajima. Room is old but clean with economic price. Distance from the port of Miyajima to hotel Makoto is about 10mins walking. For me, I will to there again.

Review 2:Things arranged in the room were a bit scattered. The hot water kettle was outside the room instead of on the table. The dustbin was located at the opposite end of the room, very far from the table. As we were made aware that 3 schools of primary school students were staying at the hotel on the same day, not sure if the room was arranged as such keeping them in mind.

Review 3:Staff were friendly. Even if we didnt arrange dinner with them, they happily recommeded eating places on the island. The room we stayed had 2 sinks for each of us to use.

Review 4:The room was very spacious and clean, but the whole experience felt very unpersonal: there was no added service to our stay. The private bath was fully booked by students, having breakfast at the hotel was not proposed as an option. We find that the place did not offer a great quality vs price relation. Our room had a very nice view over Miyajima tori!

Review 5:I would not rate this hotel as a 4 star hotel. A lot of mold in the bathroom, old tiles and towels

Review 6:Very close to everything on the island (ferry, touristic attractions)

Review 7:Air con was effective but a bit noisy and there was some building work going on outside (literally right outside the window) which meant the blinds really needed to stay shut.

Review 8:I'm a bit fan of Onsen (Japanese baths) so the baths here were great. Single room was comfy.

Review 9:No wifi in the rooms but the lobby one works well. Very expensive. Traditional breakfast with tons of things to eat but that typical that occidental people can face difficulties to eat..

Review 10:Very good hotel, close to the ferry stationa nd the main street. Traditional rooms very spacious. Onsen very much appreciated.

Review 11:Very comfortable and well located hotel. Besides, the staff was very helpful (we remained blocked on the island because of a typhoon. They let us stay in our room, kept us well informed and they offered a free lunch)

Review 12:incredible great service, they pick up us from the port at the arriving and they also leave us umbrellas the day it was rainning. The traditional japanese rooms are comfortable and the hotel is very clean. The breakfast is delicious.

Review 13:Hotel offers free Wifi throughout it's premises. Wifi works well, but there's one big issue with the wifi: it's an completely open system, so I ended up not using it.

Review 14:Service was by far exceeding my expectations. For the rate I paid I was expecting typical business hotel like service, but it was so much better. The offer a shuttle service from the pier to the hotel ... and back again on the day of departure. They even held the luggage on the day of departure and delivered it to the pier when I was done sightseeing. Marvelous!

Review 15:It's a very Japanese stylish hotel ,well situated and with a superb personal attention. They received us very nice and at the check out, they offer us to carry on to the ferry station (because the rain). We recommend 100% to stay at this hotel in Miyajima.

Review 16:We were met by a shuttle bus at the ferry port. The location was great for exploring the island, being about a 10 min walk from the ferry and the main sights.

Review 17:Too expensive for what it is The building was being reformed so windows were covered and you couldn't see anything

Review 18:The room was so big and the restroom also Workers speak english WIFI connection is good Island advice

Review 19:The bathroom is just enough to fit average asian size, it will be too small for westerners.

Review 20:5 minutes from ferry pier and easy access to all tourist attractions. Friendly staff. The size of single room is just nice for one person.

Review 21:It's a pity the entire hotel was under renovation when I stayed, but that was just bad luck. Single room had no window at all.

Review 22:It is really worthwhile to stay overnight to see the glorious sunset without any crowds around. Good onsen.

Review 23:Really nauseating smell in the hallways and also quite bad in the room before I turned on the airconditioner.

Review 24:Exceptional breakfast staff and tasty japanese breakfast. Shuttle from the pier. Nice public bath.

Review 25:No breakfast available at hotel or in surrounding area.

Review 26:Very nice room, western style beds in a Japanese style room, great view, some staff very friendly, liked the gowns to wear.

Review 27:Lack of English info on hotel facilities - only found out about private bath by chance. Hard to get info on meals / dining etc.

Review 28:Room was great, spacious & comfortable. Being able to book a private bath was good.

Review 29:my room only had a view on the mountain.

Review 30:the staff hospitality is impeccable, while not the closest to the shrines, it is in walking distance of everything. the onsen available at the first floor is nice. choice for breakfast is either western or japanese style (got japanese style myself and loved it). free shuttle from and to the ferry.

Review 31:My family & I stayed in a quad room and loved it. The futon beds were prepared each night for us, and packed away the next morning. The hotel staff picked us up from the ferry, and dropped us back there, despite it being less than 5 minutes' walk away. We would definitely recommend the hotel and would stay again.

Review 32:The hotel - overpriced - wrongly categorized (would have preferred a hostel) - Internet didn't work in the room - Dirty - Bathroom

Review 33:The island

Review 34:The hotel shuttle bus picked us up from the pier and also drops guests back which is really great on Miyajima. Room is spacious by Japanese hotel standards and we were fortunate to have views to the shrine.

Review 35:Poor room.poor bathroom. i can not sleep. je n'ai pas dormi...froid sans le chauffage ou chaud avec bruit enorme au dessus de la tete. valeur 2 etoiles...10.000y meme de trop pas de rapport qualite prix...a deconseiller.

Review 36:Nothing good.only the shuttle and the nice person for breakfast

Review 37:We were walking with our luggage to the hotel and someone stopped us in the street and asked if we were going to the Miyajima Hotel Makoto - it was a staff member on her way home from work. She called the hotel to come pick us up (we had ignored the possibility of doing so ourselves). This was fortunate as the last little bit is up a very steep hill!

Review 38:The only thing that could be improved was one member of staff who was a bit unpleasant - everyone else was very kind and welcoming.

Review 39:I chose this ryokan because it was my birthday and I wanted to wake up in a beautiful place - mission accomplished! The bed was surprisingly comfortable and I had the best sleep of my stay here.

Review 40:The only downside was a lack of food options since we arrived late and the island was basically shut down. Would be nice for the hotel to have some options for late snacks since it is definitely worth it to visit Itsukushima late at night.

Review 41:The view was gorgeous. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Close proximity to Itsukushima made it a lovely place to stay.

Review 42:Only negative was the place is a little dated so some parts of the room appeared a bit dirty eg walls. But really not a major fault.

Review 43:My partner and I had a very relaxing and happy stay at Miyajima Makoto. The staff were very helpful and courteous and even collected us from the ferry upon arrival (it may be a bit confusing to get to without this service). The breakfast was excellent and we loved all the little things the staff did to make our stay in this traditional ryokan a joy.

Review 44:The property's car waited for us, took us to the property, showing us the way how to come back to the shrine and shopping street. Japanese-style rooms, with paper windows and with western style bed as we had chosen. Very polite and nice staff.

Review 45:- Didn't sleep well as it was very noisy. There was a group of students staying at the hotel, so maybe due to them? - Massage services advertised but when asked for, were told there were none. When asked again, were told there was but that they weren't sure they could provide it.

Review 46:- Nice, spacious room. - Great room. - Friendly staff.

Review 47:Room smelled like old cabbage and green tea mixed together. Toilet also smelled like a urinal, but bathroom was clean.

Review 48:Good location in Miyajima. Staff very friendly and tried their best to communicate and help out in English. Did not try public bath so can't comment on it.

Review 49:Elevator and hallways had an odd smell, but that was not an issue in the room. Bathroom rather small for my 6'4'' travelling companion.

Review 50:Good location, a street down from the tourist streets so nice and quiet. Friendly and very helpful staff! Nice public bath on the ground floor in addition to shower/bath in the room. Free wifi is always a bonus!

Review 51:The personal was really nice and friendly. I love the experience of sleeping in a traditional room with tatami. They left some traditional Miyajima sweets in our room for free.

Review 52:Breakfast (international) was not good. you can't decide what you want, quality for a japanese hotel :-((((

Review 53:location is good. transfer for free to the ferry. public bath was nice.

Review 54:No complaints whatsoever, great place to stay if visiting Miyajima.

Review 55:The staff were exceptionally helpful especially as there was a problem with the booking which was my fault. They accomodated a change to the booking and were always extremely polite and helpful. The room was very large and well provisioned. The other facilities in the hotel were also of a high standard. The location was great, close to the ferry terminal but also a short walk to the shrine and beach front.

Review 56:The towels they used are not made of cotton. They don't absorbed water well so it is not easy to dry off.

Review 57:Staff are very helpful. Good location. Free shuttle to the ferry

Review 58:Very friendly, but limited English (though it didn't affect anything significant about my stay). I organised for a Japanese friend to do any important communication by phone (so not a real negative in effect).

Review 59:I caught the last ferry around 10.20pm, but got a friend to phone ahead and let the staff know. They organised a pick-up right off the ferry.

Review 60:Nothing

Review 61:Very nice hotel in the quite Miyajima. Has japanes bath (similar to an onsen, but smaller) which we liked very much. They gave us a ride to the ferry.

Review 62:As I retired for the day and lied down, I immediately smelled something bad. The pillow had an odor you could only notice when your nose is pressed on it, and it smelled of dried sweat! Apparently the pillow case hasn't been changed after the last guest(s). Since I was too tired and sleepy to call housekeeping to complain, I just covered the pillow with a towel and slept soundly.

Review 63:From the moment I stepped into the hotel to check in, the staff all greeted me one by one like I was a long-lost family member. After I check-in I was given a cold face towel to wipe away my sweat and a glass of brown rice tea to quench my thirst. What a truly warm reception.

Review 64:The smell of food in our room. The absolute sparseness of the facilities. The mediocre breakfast. We paid the equivalent of us$1000 for two nights, two rooms and it was absolutely not worth this amount of money. Stay away from this hotel.

Review 65:Not much

Review 66:Sorry to say, but the entire hotel smelled--like some sort of food--cabbage, maybe. The smell was overwhelming and was something we never got used to. Also, be aware that the entire town closes down pretty early and getting a late dinner can be tricky. The last ferry leaves the mainland at 9:10pm

Review 67:Absolutely loved this hotel. The front desk people were very friendly and the Japanese style room was huge and fun to experience. We got a room with a view of the parking lot and the room was expensive, but the island was completely gorgeous.

Review 68:Room is too small, uncomfortable bed and stuffy room, no accessible facility in the room. No value of money as I paid so much

Review 69:Hot bath with great opening hours.

Review 70:Narrow room lighting too dim felt not comfortable

Review 71:ok location good service of front desk Japanese breakfast

Review 72:helpful, friendly polite staff. Nice room

Review 73:Little to do on island after 9pm.

Review 74:Room was nice and had good view

Review 75:Breakfast & Onsen

Review 76:Friendly staff, clean, large rooms and relaxing public bath.

Review 77:Sauna out of use

Review 78:Picked up by free car shuttle from ferry Attentive staff Great value for money Good location

Review 79:Quite old, not so good value for money in my opinion.

Review 80:Good location.

Review 81:Location was nice, rooms are nice. Onsen was nice. Free laundry. Helpful staff and shuttle

Review 82:terrible smell in the room, wet.

Review 83:posizione

Review 84:The Wifi was very good. Also the rooms were clean, and the staff was very helpful.

Review 85:friendliness of hotel staff, location

Review 86:Location was nice, staff provided very good customer service, and additional public bath was an unexpected bonus.Would stay here again.

Review 87:No English language television

Review 88:Everything

Review 89:Loved the Japanese breakfast. Room was immaculate. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Review 90:I eat western style breakfast but I would prefered a buffet where you can take whatever you want

Review 91:Great public bath

Review 92:People smoking in the hotel (it's not something we are used to).

Review 93:Friendly staff who were very helpful.

Review 94:Staff were wonderful, traditional Japanese meal was great

Review 95:Good location and very comfortable rooms. Good service.

Review 96:Smoking in foyer

Review 97:Without even being requested, a driver from the hotel was at the ferry terminal to pick us up to take us to the hotel!

Review 98:So glad we stayed here to enjoy this beautiful island overnight. The staff were very helpful and the location is perfect for exploring the island.

Review 99:Great onsen

Review 100:Onsen was fantastic When coming back from climbing Mt. Misen, they had a glass of cold ice tea waiting for me in the lounge

Review 101:Dirty, expensive, older facility, decadent, crumbling. nobody speaks english

Review 102:Need to book breakfast in advance.

Review 103:Beautiful Onsen, calm location, helpful staff

Review 104:location

Review 105:The bathroom was clean but very small and outdated.

Review 106:The staff were fantastic, very friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed my time here! A lovely place on a wonderful island!

Review 107:It would have been nice to eat dinner at the hotel. Most shops and restaurants are closed in the evening. We were not impressed with the choice of restaurants available.

Review 108:Excellent location for sightseeing Miyajima. 10 mins. easy walk from the ferry. The breakfast was amazing. A beautiful set-up in the banquet hall with delicious and well presented food. Both western and Japanese style breakfast offered.

Review 109:Great place to stay if you would like to experience charming Miyajima after the crowd of day-trippers has left. The hotel's onsen (bath) is really nice!

Review 110:Very good ryokan, close to the pier (5 min walk). Nice and friendly staff. Our room was with great view, but could have been refurbished a little. Solid onsen. Delicious Japanese breakfast.

Review 111:Nothing.

Review 112:Free shuttle bus from the ferry terminal, just ask the information at the terminal when you arrive. We had a beautiful view. The futons were made for us when we came home from sight seeing. Very polite and helpful staff.

Review 113:Our only complaint is that it was very expensive for what you get. The towels were threadbare and there was mold on the bath/shower room ceiling. These two things make the place seem run down. A shame, since it would be very easy to fix those two items and give the room a very different feeling!

Review 114:We really enjoyed our time in Miyajima. The Makoto is well located - an easy walk from the ferry. They will also pick you up. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Many do not speak very much English, but they will use the iPad to translate. Fun!

Review 115:Location is a bit difficult to find, 15mins walk from the ferry. Recommend the free shuttle service to and from the hotel.

Review 116:Excellent customer service, they really went above and beyond all expectations!

Review 117:A ten minute walk from the seaside and no restaurants either in or near. However, nothing was really far, and the location was very quiet and peaceful. A bit pricey but a wonderful respite in the midst of our hectic three-week sightseeing in Japan.

Review 118:The large tatami mat room was beautiful in a simple Japanese style. The public baths were wonderful -- hot and relaxing, well stocked with body wash, shampoo, etc. The dressing rooms had razors, aftershave, etc. Typical summer yukatas completed the Japanese atmosphere. We loved returning from the bath to find our futons prepared for the night.
