Reviews for Aki Grand Hotel
Review 1:Shuttles to and from the JR Station didn't run through the day. Only morning and evening, not during the day. Price of the accommodation was fairly expensive especially given it was winter and not the hhigh season
Review 2:Helpful staff, Clean room
Review 3:No wifi in rooms, also the rooms were not as clean as expected for the price we paid (£100 a night). Hotel restaurant is definitely a rip off and food in it was not great at all considering prices
Review 4:Beautiful views and a few onsen downstairs, shuttle bus service to and from station was a great addition
Review 5:The night cruise was overpriced for what we experienced. Short ferry, nice to be able to see the torri at night, but I think 2000 yen per person is a bit steep. Staff doesn't speak much English, but very kind and tried to be helpful.
Review 6:Great location, love the onsen! Love the option to ferry to miyajima at 8:20 in the morning. :) great views from our room and kind staff.
Review 7:This hotel is located on the mainland facing Miyajima. I booked on the island or so I thought . I feel I was misled by booking .com
Review 8:the pub was good value
Review 9:Staff were not friendly or helpful at all. Every one before us and after us got a tour and taken to their room we were the only ones not too. The man at check in didn't provide us with any information e.g wifi etc when we checked in. The Japanese restaurant inside the hotel did not cater for English speaking guests. When asked if they had an English menu the response we got was No and the lady walked away. As this or the expensive Italian restaurant that was inside the hotel was the only option close by we had to catch a train in search for a restaurant. For the price you pay to stay in the hotel you would expect better service.
Review 10:Nice view, clean.
Review 11:The izakaya restaurant in the hotel cannot be recommended. Its too expensive for what comes on the table. Better go to town and have options even if you have to take a taxi. It will turn out to be cheaper and better.
Review 12:its great location to visit miyajima Island. Shuttle service from and to station from where it's 5 minutes to walk to the ferry terminal.
Review 13:The staff doesn't speak much English, and they weren't helpful to foreigners. They acted rude whenever we needed help. Also, we wanted to get drinks at the restaurant but when we went to be seated, we were ignored for about five minutes. When someone finally came to us (they walked by several times and ignored us), they said they were closing in ten minutes so they wouldn't seat us, even though they had just seated a group of 5 a few minutes before us. All of the entertainment they boasted about was closed, and the pool closes at 6:00 so we weren't able to site see and swim. Also, check out was way early and they wouldn't give us late check out. The location was far from the main town so we had to pay for taxis every time we wanted to go somewhere. Overall, we wouldn't stay here again, especially for the price.
Review 14:We had a beautiful view of the sea and the hotel itself was very pretty.
Review 15:The hotel is very old fashioned and its clear that nothing was done to modernize it for a while. I think that hôtels must provide wifi in the rooms and not only in the lobby in 2015.
Review 16:The view
Review 17:In thorough need of a refurbishment, it felt like something from the 70s. Overall it just felt tired and in desperate need of a revamp
Review 18:Solid breakfast and staff were really helpful.
Review 19:Had to walk up dangerous winding steps to get to the pool
Review 20:The views across to myajima island were spectacular. Free shuttle to train station was great and the onsen especially the private onsen (need to book) were wonderful
Review 21:Outdated hotel, really old and thus less quality. All the Japanese room which have western beds in the pictures only have the Futon beds.
Review 22:Everything was quite OK, but the hotel stayed behind in the eighties and is very outdated
Review 23:The rooms and bathroom's are a little dated and the property overall could do with some general maintenance.
Review 24:Great view of Miyajima island, and also a very useful shuttle service to the JR station and Ferry Terminal. The private baths can be rented, which are right on the water.
Review 25:The hotel could use a little renovation, some of the carpets were old and some of the furniture looked dated. But overall, great experience and would recommend this hotel!
Review 26:Great staff! Great breakfast! Nice onsen! Awesome views of Miyajima.
Review 27:Wifi not available in rooms. Only next to lobby and it was ridiculously slow. So slow we couldn't even find train times. Food options were limited. Music playing in the corridors could be heard from inside the room Old fashioned
Review 28:One member of staff made a difference. Took a lot of his time to help us get a vegetarian meal in the downstairs restaurant. Was very grateful to him
Review 29:No Wifi in room. Wifi in lobby not strong enough.
Review 30:Private boat to see torii from underneath!!!!! Lovely room. Amazing view of Miyajima Island and flosting torii from room.
Review 31:The furniture in our room was a little tired and the air conditioning was not working throughout the hotel. Staff at reception did arrange for us to have a fan in our room.
Review 32:The location of the hotel overlooking the water, our room had beautiful views. The private onsens were a great experience to bathe in looking across to the island.
Review 33:No real bad points, the hotel is in need of updating though. You can walk from there to the ferry to Miajima (10-15 minute walk along a rather busy road) but driving is probably a better choice
Review 34:Great view of Mijajima and the water. It is a huge hotel for Japanese standards. Staff is very friendly and helpful as you would expect.
Review 35:Really bad WiFi (not available in rooms, only in the lobby (but still slow as a snail). 10-15 minutes on foot from the station (the shuttle bus from hotel is available though).
Review 36:Nice Japanese style room, comfortable stay, hearty breakfast. Nice public Japanese baths. Fantastic view to Miyajima island from the window).
Review 37:L'atenció del personal de recepció. Freda / attention of the reception staff: cold
Review 38:L'amplitut de l'habitació i les vistes / The spaciousness of the room and the views.
Review 39:checked us into a room that is currently occupied. then proceed to give us another room nearby and handed us keys for 2 rooms. Which we have to bring 1 back down to return to reception.
Review 40:10 minutes walk from JR. Station. Free shuttle bus pick-up. Sea view from our balcony
Review 41:No Wi-Fi in rooms, one had to go down to foyer to connect. A hotel built on a grand scale but now in need of a paint job.
Review 42:Good regular shuttle bus service to the ferry. Spas were wonderful.
Review 43:We went to the Japanese restaurant in the hotel for dinner and were very disappointed. It was incredibly over priced and the food was mediocre. The hotel and rooms are quite dated.
Review 44:We were very happy that the hotel had a free shuttle to/from the train station, because it is not a walkable distance. It also came at regular time intervals, which was convenient. We were surprised to find our room had a great view of the ocean and you could even see the floating torii in the distance. Our room was very clean and the beds were not bad.
Review 45:Only wifi in the main area, not in our room. The room was slightly outdated.
Review 46:The sea view from our room was amazing. About 10 a 15 minutes walk from the ferry terminal.
Review 47:1. Location: hotel itself is situated not in the island but in Hiroshima side - be sure to get this. They even couldn't mention Miyayima island name in their hotel name! It is far (~2 km) from JR train station. There is no bus going here, so you should walk. 2. People at Front desk does not speak English. At all. No chances to ask about simply things. 3. Actually there is no internet at all. They couldn't write that it is in their description because it does not work! 4. Hotel itself is outdated, facilities, especially bath room, is so old. We did not even want to use it because of that. Room was dusty, chairs were unclean. Unfortunately, could say any single good word about this hotel. Worst we had throughout Japan.
Review 48:The rooms slightly dated (old fixtures and worn look, particularly in the bathroom). Wireless Internet was out of order. Limited information on restaurants and spa services in English. Shuttle only runs part of the day, it is so close, should run on request late at night or between 10:30am and 3:30pm. No chairs on balconies.
Review 49:The sauna and public bath facilities were excellent. The staff was very friendly. The hotel offers a shuttle service to the JR Rail and Ferry stop to Miyajima (although it doesn't run around midday).
Review 50:While the service and drinks at the pub were amazing, the food was typical bar quality. I would suggest going to an okonomiyaki restaurant if you're looking for true Hiroshima style & quality.
Review 51:The Aki Grand Hotel was absolutely amazing. When you first walk in, the open atrium houses casual lounging areas along with a stunning scale model (complete with water) of the floating Torii gate and Shinto temple that makes Miyajima Island so famous. Furthermore, the staff is extremely courteous and will go out of their way to ensure you have the best stay possible. The hotel houses 2 restaurants (traditional japanese and Italian) as well as a japanese pub serving Okonomiyaki. The views are amazing, perched on the shore almost directly across from the Torii gate. The ferry and train terminals are about a 15 minute walk or catch the complimentary shuttle to the train station that runs every thirty minutes morning and late afternoon.
Review 52:No wifi in the room The lack of food choices Not easily accessible from metro station No easy to access to additional restaurants
Review 53:The view from my room.
Review 54:Access to pool via back door and rusty spiral staircase. Green mould inpool. Pool closed at 6pm on a 33c day. Many of the restaurants wereclosed. [End of season]. Hotel in need of a serious upgrade.Quality/ availability of food at night. No atm or 7eleven close by.
Review 55:Pool but..... Courtesy bus from station. Free Japanese style hot baths.Terrific buffet breakfast included in room price. Comfy rooms with viewsof Miyajima.
Review 56:a little bit far from the train station, but walkable
Review 57:great rooms, clean neat bathrooms and toilets, nice ambiance, good car parking facilities, good value for money
Review 58:Aircon was broken and the staff came back to us bringing fan. Staff cannot speak English. Quite far from the train station and the hotel gave a very limited bus shuttle (only in certain hours)
Review 59:Nothing
Review 60:The location is pretty awkward to get - from the main train station you need to walk for 15-20 mins along very busy road. The hotel provides shuttle bus service only in peak hours. We picked this hotel because of the swimming pool which was closed, nobody explained why. Probably not the most comfortable place to stay in.
Review 61:Clean and spacious room, balcony with a nice sea view.
Review 62:The last shuttle bus leaves at 18:30, but at least there is complimentary shuttle service from Miyajimaguchi Station.
Review 63:Great value for the price. Free shuttle from Miyajimaguchi JR Station, and great view of Miyajima from across the Seto Inland Sea. The staffs were also very helpful.
Review 64:This was a nice hotel in a good location. There was a shuttle from the train station that was very convenient. The rooms were nice, not spectacular, but with a harbor view that was very nice. Restaurant was very good.
Review 65:No staff could speak English which was a big struggle ordering dinner or asking general questions.
Review 66:nice view
Review 67:front desk staff didn`t act like they understood English & were not accommodating for use of Onsen,
Review 68:The thing that I didn't like was the lack of wifi in the rooms
Review 69:The location overlooking Miyajima Island was fantastic
Review 70:wifi not in the rooms
Review 71:location and view
Review 72:personal hardly speaks English ;)
Review 73:Hot springs in the hotel, traditional japanese rooms, nice view.
Review 74:wifi not available in rooms. far from town.(need taxi to station)
Review 75:amazing location. fantastic view.
Review 76:Breakfast not too great for the price
Review 77:Quiet peaceful shuttle to the train station Japanese style hotel experience From hotel can see miyajima
Review 78:Room was too basic and old
Review 79:Location, style and ease of access to good facilities. Rooms are a tad standard but views are fantastic
Review 80:far from everything bathroom non english speaking staff
Review 81:the view the balcony
Review 82:Barely any English spoken at the place
Review 83:Lovely view comfortable, baths were lovely. The place was very clean and massive.
Review 84:Wonderful location
Review 85:No wifi in the room, and a bit far from the port to Miyajima.
Review 86:Friendly staff, nice view, spacious room
Review 87:Staff member's English needs improvement. A little more expensive for what it was - which was more geared towards older Japanese people.
Review 88:Views were great, can see across the water to the island of Miyajima. Wish we knew beforehand, but there's a special cruise you can book that takes you right up to the Floating Tori. Male and Female onsens.
Review 89:The interior of the hotel is badly dated, especially rooms. It was not really walking distance from the harbour. Hardly any English speakers. It seemed to be orientated towards elderly customers only. The evening boat trip to the Torii from the hotel was a total waste of time and money.
Review 90:Japanese Dinner. View of the island and oyster rafts. The reasonable thing to do is not to stay in Miyajimaguchi at all but to take a boat from Hiroshima (city side of the Bomb Park) for a day-trip.
Review 91:Good location next to ferry to Miyajima island. Slightly better value for money since the hotel is not on the island Great balcony view of the island.
Review 92:My experience at the Aki Grand Hotel was excellent. We stayed in a traditional japanese room with an amazing view to the Itsukushima island. Great value for money and very efficient staff. (I forgot my reading glasses at the hotel and had them send to Tokyo on the next day)
Review 93:This hotel requires 20 minutes on foot to the ferry station that brings to Myiajima. There is no internet in the rooms, only a slow connection in the lobby. Beautiful restaurants but expensive.
Review 94:Very comfortable, nice pub and karoke room.
Review 95:Lack of good wifi, even in the lobby. The 4 restaurants all had somewhat restrictive hours. Also too bad they have a strict no onsen with tattoos policy, a Western woman with seashell tattoos on her shoulder surely cannot be suspected of being Yakuza...
Review 96:Amazing view, fabulous shuttle service, good location, lovely evening boat cruise to see the Otorii gate, helpful staff.
Review 97:Great Hotel! Amazing staff. Real value with an incredible view. Quiet. Clean. Comfortable. Though off the beaten path. 5 min walk to the train or ferry. Taxi service is an option and inexpensive.
Review 98:Room looked quite old. It would be good to be renewed.
Review 99:Nice view over the sea and Miyajima (in front of the famous torii). Hotel is just 15 minutes walking to the ferry to Miyajima (walking along a busy road). Great onsen.
Review 100:If you are thinking to just visit Miyajima, I would choose other hotel, due to you need a shuttle to get to the Ferry and the Train Station. There are not restaurants near, so we had to have dinner at the hotel(really expensive!!! 40-50 euros per person, no options), and theshuttles to come back from Miyajima ends at 18:30!!!. So we had to pay ataxi (7 euros). The shuttles starts at 8:00 in the morning so we had topay another taxi to go to the train station. No worthwhile if you arethinking to just visit Miyajima and stay one night.
Review 101:Good hotel if you are thinking to spend days at the beach. The visit tothe Tori in the night
Review 102:The hotel is a bit dated and could do with a refurbishment, but the view compensates for all of that.
Review 103:The view and proximity to the ferry, the shuttle bus and the staff.
Review 104:Everything was good. we just didnt know it was not located in the Island but i the mainland, but we had JR pass so we could take the ferry for free.
Review 105:Location - a long walk from the nearest station; need a taxi.
Review 106:Large room with balcony and great view.
Review 107:In grand hotel should staff speak English...
Review 108:It was vibrant with business people.no charectaristic.will not recommend it.
Review 109:It's proximity to the historical sites
Review 110:Limited times for shuttle, need shuttle all day.
Review 111:View of water, spa, breakfast.
