Reviews for Hotel Marinela Sofia
Review 1:-Many rooms are very old, smelly, worn out...dirty windows, mold in the bathroom. -Rooms (at least some) are not corresponding with "WOW style" lobby reconstruction.
Review 2:-Breakfast and general catering. -Reception staff. -Restaurants and Candy club.
Review 3:Shabby interior, old-fashioned and the facilities are very far from a 5 star hotel's, too pricy for the services you finally get. Elevators didn't always work, it took me 50 mins to get back to my room after breakfast and then to the lobby.
Review 4:Friendly and helpful staff
Review 5:Again 5 days in old room. Internet did not work in the room for all 5 days, so when I went to the lobby did not work there either. Overcrowded swimming pool.
Review 6:Breakfast was very diverse, Personnel very professional ,
Review 7:Extra Drinks, coffe and parking is too expensive. Room price is acceptable but another costs .....
Review 8:Personal is on high level, old room but big. Breakfast is very good.
Review 9:rooms are too old...opefully from the 80's
Review 10:you don't need to get out of the hotel for whatever it needs, disco, spa, pool, pub and multiple restaurants
Review 11:It was a pity that because of construction activities facilities were closed or difficult to visit. The rooms need an up-lift
Review 12:Professional, friendly and flexible staff
Review 13:Rooms were very old, carpets stained and dirty. Not just in my room but in others I saw because I was so unhappy about the filthiness. WiFi was poor. Lobby Counter staff were poorly trained and difficult to work with.
Review 14:Lobby was beautiful but under construction to rebuild. Restaurants were very good. Room Service was good
Review 15:The new rooms are "very" good we stay in 09/2015 . Now we recieve a "old" room and it was " dirty" (room 1305 ) .
Review 16:The staf is "perfect " = the breakfirst IS AMAZING GOOD .
Review 17:The rooms, particularly, the mattress - old ,wiry and extremely uncomfortable. Also the rate per night i was charged compared to other guests was notoriously higher. Thank you very much!!
Review 18:the catering outlets
Review 19:compared to previous ownership (the hotel changed property recently) , the reception desks were quicker (more people available). During my stay, only 1 person for the entire hotel with hundreds of accomodations...too slow..maybe it was due because of restyiling working in progress...anyway more desks must be available (even if all staff was very helpfull and professional)
Review 20:the restyling was not finished yet but from what I saw it will be much better than before on common areas. Rooms the same (different categories with different prices). Everything was fine. In Sofia I Always stay here: the best quality/price
Review 21:No kettle in the room. ALL hotels of all standards should have this basic commodity. TV's old fashioned - need updating.
Review 22:Lovely hotel. Lovely gardens. Very good price for a 5 star hotel.
Review 23:Extremely impolite hotel staff. The room as dirty. The bathroom furniture falls apart. Some parts of the hotel are obviously under refurbishment so it was noisy all the time. It used to be a very nice hotel couple of years ago, but now it is a disaster.
Review 24:The hotel bar is the only good thing.
Review 25:Major renovations works appear to be coming to a close, though they are very intrusive. I hope the Elevators will be upgraded in the process.
Review 26:Great Gym, restaurants and location
Review 27:I asked and was given a Non Smoking room, however, a heavy smoker was staying in the next room
Review 28:Convenient for Airport Quiet neigbourhood Restaurants close by Underground to center Good value for money
Review 29:Hotel totally changed, it is now owned by a Plovdi's millionaires which likes race cars. The style of the hotel is ugly, the food with room service or bkfast fermented. Only good point the Panorama restaurant is still working.
Review 30:There was some renovations and construction work in the lobby but the staff did everything to compensate for the discomfort
Review 31:excellent service; friendly and professional personnel....taking extra steps to ensure guest's comfort and satisfaction. They offered abundant choices of foods at the breakfast buffet
Review 32:The room hasn`t been refurbished for the past 30 years. "Antique" furniture and bathroom. No safe deposit box in the room. Marble floor design in the lobby make you feel dizzy.
Review 33:Location and former glory of the hotel.
Review 34:I was really disappointed from the staff of the hotel. One of the nights I was stopped by the security and did not allow me to enter at the hotel, start asking me what it is the time and if I am sure that I am staying at the hotel then wanted to go with me and check my room, this was not very nice as you can imagine what they though. Had very nice impression from my previous stay when the hotel was still Kempinski but now I really do not think that goes anyway better. And in the end my room was not paid from the reservation and put me in a position to pay when I was checking out even in my reservation was written that the room will be paid 3 days before I check in. This was very inconvenient because I was a guest to a friend and they already though that my stay was already paid.
Review 35:Dreadful staff, poor meals in restaurants. Decor of hotel is old fashioned in parts and the redecoration is very blingy
Review 36:Clean hotel reasonable location
Review 37:Shower and hand basin drainage didnt work properly in our room 1125
Review 38:Nice & clean room with mountain view, except drain in bath and basin didnt work properly in room 1125, the city centre is about 5/6 km away but there is a metro station very close by.
Review 39:The standart room type did not match 5 star hotel. It was not refurbished, everything was old and broken and dirty. If you are intersted in this I made some pictures. Please bear in mind that standart room in 5 * hotel should be a 5 * room not 2 -3 * like this one that we stayed in. We will not stay in this hotel for a long long time. The staff was rude and unpleasant.
Review 40:We liked only the location.
Review 41:Rooms, not a five star at all, more like a 3star hotel Dirty carpenter Paid parking Air conditioning in the room, controlled only though the reception desk( you need to call)
Review 42:A Very comfortable king size bed Free wifi everywhere inc. rooms Very good restaurants in the property Great location Great public areas
Review 43:Stayed on the 13th floor- extremely dated rooms(had 2 rooms) and decor. Loose plug hanging off the wall with exposed wire. Pillows leave a lot to be desired
Review 44:Modern and comfortable lobby Comfortable bed and complimentary water Breakfast was very good with something for everyone
Review 45:The bed was very uncomfortable, very! Strange for a 5 star hotel. Our room was a standard with two single beds, very old beds.
Review 46:Location, staff and the price
Review 47:Still some work inside in the hotel which the smell was not so good. None smokkng rooms or even balcony in the standard rooms. Couldents use the hair dryer. Telephone . Tv when i first arrived loved the omlet fillong options but not so many options regarding the breakfast
Review 48:the garden. The swimming pooL. The metro is 100 meters away from the hotel
Review 49:incomplete remodelling:dirty carpet, curtains not fixed. Insufficient staff during breakfast. Room cleaning poor. Four stars if at all.
Review 50:money is put into the necessary renovations. Friendly staff.
Review 51:Our room was not cleaned on time one day and not cleaned even after our request. Probably to bussy on that day, the hotel was full. Still....
Review 52:great location and facilities helfull and friendly staff very friendly to pets, I recomend it to pet owners.
Review 53:We enjoyed our week stay here! So many things that we enjoyed but a few are the variety of restaurants in the hotel or close proximity, great breakfast with many choices, and closeness to the metro station.
Review 54:Parking for guests is not free, but it's 10 EUR / day. Checkin process took really long.
Review 55:Very comfortable and spacey rooms, a lot of facilities within the hotel (Japanese garden, bars, restaurants, pool), friendly staff and good location in Sofia.
Review 56:My only complaint is that the piano bar can't charge to the room, so we needed to get cash to close out the evening.
Review 57:The place was amazing. That is really all I can say. My wife wanted to swipe the pillows they were so comfortable.
Review 58:We booked a room with a queen bed, only to find separated beds. There are no basic facilities like coffee nor tea in the room. Way to expensive to order a room service.
Review 59:The location is good.
Review 60:No bathrobe, no napkins in the bathroom, no menu for the room service food.
Review 61:Comfort of bed, breakfast, TV speakers in the bathroom- convenient for listening to the news while taking shower.
Review 62:Absolutely one of the best experiences, clean, new, receptionists and owner were just lovely! Thank you, guys, for the wonderdul stay! You are the best!
Review 63:The size of bathroom. The poor quality of bathroom fixtures.
Review 64:The Japanese garden, bars and restaurants. The view from my room at the 16th floor. The superb friendly service. The sandwich handed to me upon check-out at 04:30AM
Review 65:Upon check-in they put an incredibly high hold about 110% on top of the actual charge on our credit card. I guess they were trying to make sure that we eat only the hotel. The rooms are in bad need of refurbishing and the staff was rude.
Review 66:ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
Review 67:Fast check in and check out. Clean and comfortable room.Very helpful and professional staff.Beautiful hotel,we did not stay long enough to enjoy all facilities. Will definitely stay there on all our trips.
Review 68:the problem with getting a good deal in a 5* hotel without breakfast is that anything that you want to eat or drink is a) expensive and b) seems to take a (very) long time to come. If you are coming here on a limited budget, you have to check out cheap places to take a coffee and have breakfast that aren't too far away
Review 69:the gym and the room and proximity of the metro (with link to the airport - takes about 30 minutes - which is great considering the traffic problems at the moment)
Review 70:Captain cook restaurant was a bit pretentious and I felt I was beinghounded into spending money on seafood that first seems reasonablepricewise, but then you find you can't get lobster unless you buy awhole lobster at 160Lv!! So why say it is 15.99Lv for 100g!? You shouldcreate cuts at cheaper prices and cater more for families rather thanthe super-rich people imho
Review 71:Pool, Happy Sushi bar, lake, birds and a quiet room. Captain cookquality food
Review 72:Extremely rude and unprofessional reception staff. No customer oriented, certainly not for a 5 stars hotel. Had a problem with the room and after I called reception (the same girl which was checking us in for 15 min!!!) she yelled at me on the phone that there is no manager available at the moment and she would call me back to offer solutions to the problem. The return call i was waiting never arrived. Avoid the hotel if you are looking for a 5 stars staff attitude!!
Review 73:Abundant breakfast
Review 74:Room service was very very bad and if you ordered food from hotel restaurant they take very long time event for one choice of starters
Review 75:On the hotel garden was many excellent restaurants and many international food
Review 76:At the time of booking, the hotel was advertised as Kempinski, which wasstrange given the more than a reasonable price - turned out thatKempinski was a false advertising as the hotel has probably lost themembership in the meantime. The reception hall is huge, yet the actualcheck-in is done in a small office, by three clerks, and there wereconstantly some problems with each and every guest who was trying tocheck in, so we waited for more than half an hour to get to know aboutour problems - which were many, as the hotel failed to document ourchange of reservation (which took place more than a month before actualcheck in). Luckily these were resolved after maybe 15 minutes and acouple of phone calls (make sure to bring all the reservationdocuments!) My room was ok, but one of my colleagues found some clothesfrom previous guests and the other found a guest in her room, who wasapparently changing the room at 20.00 and was taking out his stuff! Atthe time of my visit, the hotel was hosting a couple of big conferences,so it was literally packed with people, which created problems. Thebreakfast was OK-ish, but the dining room was definitely too small forall the people there. Air conditioning system's strange - I found iton, and I could not switch it off, so I called the front desk, and wastold that they'd do it "from the distance", and then, thenext day, when I wanted it on, I had to call the front desk again..
Review 77:There were many problems, but the staff was friendly and relativelyefficient. I admire the waiters in the breakfast room, as the room waspacked with people, and somehow they managed to clear the tables and setclean plates rather quickly.
Review 78:Whilst staff were pleasant, they were not always helpful. For example helping us with directions to and from places. They do not seem to be set up for tourism. Hotel was about half hour walk to centre of town.
Review 79:Facilities and environment of the hotel and room. Beautiful grounds. The staff were very helpful on our last day although previously had not been.
Review 80:This was my craziest hotel stay ever. Basically everything went wrong. I'll spare you all the details and just mention my two highlights: check-in time >20 minutes; tv not working, front desk promised to send a technician, who never showed. Ah and before I forget: do NOT leave your car unattended on the public parking in front of the hotel. I did so only to check-in (if only I had known). When I returned, the front wheel had already been blocked. 30 minutes, several calls and 15 euros later, I was able to move the car to the hotel parking 10m across the street.
Review 81:When I first made the booking about a month ago, I chose a Kempinski hotel. When I arrived Kempinski was gone and the only positive thing left was the amazing view from my room on the 17th floor.
Review 82:I did not like the service at reception!!!
Review 83:The piccolo was very nice and kind boy. Good location - close to a mall as well as there are a few restaurants with great quality food in the hotel
Review 84:No other hotel in Sofia can give you such a supreme feeling of freedom and comfort. There is space, variaty, light, and exclusive views not only from the uppper stores. A fantastic garden in Japanese style, numerous restaurants, bars, shops, sport fascilities.
Review 85:A/C in room appeared to not work or be adjustable towards end of a week's stay.
Review 86:I had one of the recently modernised and updated rooms so it was very comfortable although the a/c wasn't adjustable. Staff helpful but the pace of service is moderate. Gym very good.
Review 87:Often travel to Sofia for day trips, last time I was at Kempinsky, with previous ownership, things were old and shabby. It is now a proper 5 star international hotel. Loved the ducks and geese! Keep it up!
Review 88:Only thing that sort of bothered me is the area around the hotel, but thats really not a big thing. Since its a bit out of the city center you got to expect that the streets are not as clean as on vitosha. But that was actually the only thing.
Review 89:Nice comfortable rooms of a good size with a huge kingsize bed. Best feature of the room is clearly the stunning view over the whole city of sofia. The room was cleaned and everything was prepared before arrival. Personal was speaking good english and was very friendly, staff was nice. The hotel features a pool wich is also nice and clean. Breakfast is ok. All in all I'd say a nice place to stay for a good price.
Review 90:The staff is terrible this is not 5 star hotel. The woman on reception was so arugant and not polite. I miss Kempinski attitude
Review 91:Location and CANDY Bar + Happy Sushi
Review 92:the staff at the reception was not too welcoming, there were times noone picked up the phone when I was calling the reception desk. When I was checking out, the person at reception kept doing something else completely ignoring the fact that I was standing there.
Review 93:The facilities are newly renovated, very nice Japanese garden, good parking in front of the hotel with 50% discount for hotel guests.
Review 94:The hotel probably has got two parts of rooms. I stayied there twice and first time I got nice renovated modern room, but second time I got old not so clean one even for the same price.
Review 95:this is NOT 5 stars hotel - it's really old (Soviet Union times and style)... it was very bad surprise for us...
Review 96:the Japan's garden, "Tomas Cook" restaurant
Review 97:there was a party in the suite next door, it was worse than sleeping nextdoor to a bar. The staff did not do anything about it. Seems a recent Kempinski, the staff is not high class, everything looks shabby. Disgrace to the Kempinski brand.
Review 98:Hotel carpets felt a bit outdated... Reception took forever to check in and out
Review 99:We loved the Japanese gardens and the delicious complementary fruits. Restaurants are great. Cooks restaurant was fantastic and had really attentive waiters
Review 100:This is a NOT a Kempinski hotel. By the end of this month it will lose the right to trade under that name..... And for good reason. DO NOT book this hotel....
Review 101:The drive away from this property was all that was good.
Review 102:Whole lobby and restaurant area smelled of stale tobacco. I decided not to use the eating or entertainment for that reason. Took 20 minutes to check out.
Review 103:Layout with bars and restaurants close together.
Review 104:Mini bar and room service very high. Paid for car park - free for just 15 min. Not quite enough to drop off/pick up a person on crutches... had to pay 3 lv!
Review 105:The lobby, the view from the room, the swimming pool, the breakfast, beautiful grounds. The attentiveness and politeness of the staff. Standard room although dated good value for money with breakfast included.
Review 106:The restaurant on top floor: people were smoking; we received some water we didn't order and it was not a compliment, we had to pay for it...as well as a huge quantity of bread.
Review 107:The polite staff, the compliments, clean, comfortable bed
Review 108:Double charged for breakfast Slow disorganised staff Zero customer focus Car park cash preferred, no receipts for cr. cards 50 minutes between leaving room and finally exiting car park
Review 109:The oats at breakfast
Review 110:In the panoramic restaurant, is marked NON SMOKING, but 75% of client just smoke, and the staff don't say anything
Review 111:Service was ok, nice hotel. Perfect breakfast Nice panoramic restaurant, with excellent food and service.
Review 112:People smoking at Panorama restaurant and staff silent and slave of few customers. It's been my first and last time in that restaurant because all over the world it's strictly fornidden to smoke. At least create two separate zones for smoking and not-smoking guests giving the smokers the internal area not overlooking Sofia. The staff of the bar in the lobby is tooooo slooooowwwww ... half an hour to have a simple drink with no more than 10 clients present. Come on guys, quick, quick, quick!
Review 113:Nice room and Captain's restaurant!
Review 114:The beds have clearly never been replaced since the 1990s. Literally the most uncomfortable bed ever, every wire and spring pressing out leaving marks on my skin. I ended up sleeping in the chair. Furious, completely ruined by business trip because I didn't sleep a wink. Who cares about whatever else the hotel offers.
Review 115:Nothing. I was too grumpy from not sleeping.
Review 116:The staff had promised they could book me a trip to Serbia, but when it came to it no one was able to do that - this was very disappointing. The room service was hugely over priced so I didn't use it! Be aware if you're walking in to town it's quite a walk up hill to get home again!
Review 117:The size of the room and the size of the bed were excellent. The views and the large window area was lovely. Nice choice of meal options
Review 118:Standard room was extremly dated with 20+ years old furniture and devices, no safe featured, staff failed to issue correct invoice (dropped company name) and to add miles to Miles & More balance despite repeated request to do so. Unacceptable mini bar pricing for such a rundown hotel (e.g. 40g chocolate bar for € 4).
Review 119:Cheap rate and free parking lot. Nice panorama from the room.
Review 120:Car parking additional payment
Review 121:Good location
Review 122:no good wi-fi
Review 123:It is centrum of very very strange people. Look like hotel of Mr.Coppola movie...
Review 124:Iwas located in the old part of the hotel, were rooms diserwe only 3*
Review 125:A lot of constructions inside the hotel.Very dusty.
Review 126:Old room
Review 127:Everything is just perfect
Review 128:Rooms are very old furnished, cold and dirty.
Review 129:The breakfast
Review 130:Old rooms no double bed in the double room
Review 131:Nice view Breakfast
Review 132:Room was horrible , sheets were dirty , floor also
Review 133:Very good gym.
