Reviews for Holland House Beach Hotel

Review 1:We didn't like that the beach bar closed so early as it was one of our favourites and we would've loved to watch the sunsets there with a few drinks.

Review 2:We travelled here with 4 couples in November. We knew what to expect from our research as far as the location, amenities and views. What we didn't know was how great the food was going to be and how exceptional the staff would be. We all had a great time and will return to this hotel upon our return to St Maarten.

Review 3:The elevator gave a bit of trouble on a few occasions, other than that when I booked the second time I requested breakfast as complimentary but when I checked in, it was not in the hotel's system.

Review 4:The location being both close to the beach and the shops and other food options beside those of the hotel.

Review 5:The city view from my room was horrible. I couldn't go out on my balcony because there was a balcony of smoking people directly across the street.

Review 6:Staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Review 7:The cleaning staff-they want to clean your room even if you are in, you say them to come back later and they didnt

Review 8:Position, food, beach, beachbar staff, cocktails

Review 9:Nothing to complain about the hotel nor with the staff

Review 10:The staff are very accommodating and always happy to answer any requests or questions that you might have. The hotel is very clean and the food is phenomenal

Review 11:Facing Front Street & not the beach.

Review 12:Stayed there before and choose to return as I was satisfied with service. Your staff are top rates and i have stayed at hotels all over the world. They make the experience memorable, especially Antoinette & the Food & Beverage Manager & the Barman on Aug. 22, 2015. Thank you.

Review 13:If you're a solo traveller looking to be around loads of people this may not be the best place to stay. Each guest do their own thing and there isn't a pool or a space to really get to know people. Still I met some people at the beach bar and it was nice and not intrusive.

Review 14:Great beds! so comfortable! Breakfast was good as well. Roy, the bartender is brilliant, great service and a genuinely nice person. Good food and drinks at the beach bar and dinner. Choice of rain shower or normal one in my room -that was nice too. Oh, free wi-fi - major plus.

Review 15:None here..

Review 16:View of the sea. Hotel staff found me and returned my phone charger I inadvertently left after checkout. Nespresso coffee maker in the room.

Review 17:Checking in I learned that the booking agency had the wrong tax amount. I budget to the penny and did not enjoy this. The staircase, hallways and walls should be renovated.

Review 18:Sitting in the dining room and lounge at anytime of the day is just wonderful. Looking out at the beach and that gorgeous blue water is mesmerizing. The boardwalk and beach provided such perfect entertainment. We had the best time.

Review 19:The room was very clean. I like my beds all in white and I was surprised when everything in the rooms was white. We had to queen size beds and one white beautiful sofa that another person could sleep on. the room had two large screen TV's with an excellent view of the beach.

Review 20:We liked the friendliness of the staff and enjoyed sitting out on the balcony. It was great to see the Wind Surf, our ship for the next two weeks, sitting at the pier.

Review 21:We experienced limited connectivity from the WIFI at the time of our visit.

Review 22:We especially liked that the Hotel is fully accessible through its location. The staff was very friendly, competent and go all out to satisfy the guest's requests.

Review 23:Indifferent staff at reception. We arrived late after a very difficult travel day of weather delays and re -routings. A smile would have made all the difference.

Review 24:Great location for catching the ferry to St Barths. Excellent breakfast buffet.

Review 25:Maids with trolley are used the same lift that guests. It was so uncomfortable.

Review 26:Location, beach, wifi on the beach, food, few snack bars and galateries near the hotel. Great terrassa. Champagne bar. Own parking.

Review 27:When the stores close down in the evening, the whole place is peaceful and quiet. However, if you happen to be there at a time when there is a celebration (carnival, regatta, etc.) you will not get much sleep.

Review 28:Great location! Very convenient to the cruise terminal. Great shopping area all around and lots to do during the day. On the beach side of the hotel, there is a pedestrian walk and after that is a fine sandy beach. The hotel has its own dedicated area with chair and towel service.

Review 29:Hotel is older, and some common areas, such as halls and staircases, are in disrepair and tired. Room is clean, freshly painted, and is nicely decorated and updated. Bath and shower are updated and nice. Watch your step, though, as room has some small step-up-step down areas (into bathroom, for instance). Highest price I have ever paid for a non-view room of it's type.

Review 30:Location in downtown Phillipsburg is convenient to town shopping and is right on a nice beach near cruise terminal. Restaurant is terrific. At least what I had, a seafood pasta, was terrific. Friends had similar dining reactions.

Review 31:Ply wood closets with curtain not door-A/C vents too loud and hidden in wooden ducting as opposed to gypsum soffits. Location was not our favorite. Preferred Grand Case.

Review 32:Staff, property, food, bed, bathrooms

Review 33:I did not like the eggs at breakfast. It tasted like artificial eggs or those premixed in a box. That was the only draw back. Nonetheless I would revisit the hotel.

Review 34:I choose this hotel based on the location and recommendation from business associate. It was with in walking distance to my business meeting. The hotel though in the heart of a busy street the rooms were nice an quiet for a peaceful rest.

Review 35:convenience of hotel to beach - great service on beach as well Restaurant - great breakfast and dinners it is very quiet at night but active during the day

Review 36:Food not as good as last visit 12onths ago

Review 37:Location ,beach beds,bar area

Review 38:The AC unit was disturbing during the night when it cuts in.

Review 39:Location is quite good, the room was largely delightful.

Review 40:the beach and lounge

Review 41:wifi was not that great

Review 42:beautiful views and location on beach

Review 43:The management. Didn't have the book rate at booking.com

Review 44:Elevator is too slow, and the electronic door key takes too much time to be activated.

Review 45:The WiFi

Review 46:The parking situation could be better.

Review 47:Location and the staff was extremely helpful and the security is good.

Review 48:I didn't like that there was no workout facility or healthy food choices at the restaurant.

Review 49:Very clean and comfortable.

Review 50:We didn't like having to pay to use bathrooms.

Review 51:We love tge location and the food was very good.

Review 52:check in a bit weak ac was not cold

Review 53:service at check out was good breakfast was good clean

Review 54:Town is pretty dead at night after ships leave.

Review 55:Location and views. Beach view rooms worth the extra cost. facility is in great shape.

Review 56:The location was ideal - right in the middle of Philipsburg. The restaurant was very good.

Review 57:The food was pricey and the wifi was marginal.

Review 58:The staff was friendly and the facilities were updated and modern. The location was excellent.

Review 59:Can't beat the location!

Review 60:Undesirable people around the street at night .

Review 61:Check in was slow.

Review 62:Location and access to the beach and shops.

Review 63:Not much to dislike about this hotel.

Review 64:Not much.

Review 65:Modern boutique feel, great location, good restaurant(much improved since my visit in 2013

Review 66:Dinner in restaurant

Review 67:Rooms could use a little updating, more pillows is an easy fix for comfort

Review 68:Hotel style, Staff, Location to the beach and town, bathrooms

Review 69:no dislikes

Review 70:Loved everyting about the place

Review 71:Guests are on their own to find places of interest to visit (not restaurants and casinos).G

Review 72:Excellent location, near to beach, shopping and restaurants

Review 73:-More attention to be paid to maintenance ( we experienced a bathroom door falling off the hinge) -Taxi drivers to and from airport were not welcoming/friendly. -No gym facilities

Review 74:-Proximity to beach and shopping -Food at restaurant was tasty -Friendly staff esp Esther and Vincent

Review 75:No parking or valet. The street in front of the hotel iscompletely closed when cruise ships are in Port! Sketchy people inthe street front.

Review 76:Location , veiws , & excellent resturant in the hotel

Review 77:The elevator is small and a little slow but that was not a factor that affected our wonderful stay at the hotel!!

Review 78:We love the Location, close to everything. Very convenient next to shopping food and beach.

Review 79:Only downside of the location is that the area serves the cruise crowd. Last day had six ships in and town very busy, but we were leaving. Town shuts down after 5 when ships have left. A few good full-service restaurants are within walking distance but work with front desk on this.

Review 80:We very much enjoyed this hotel. The staff was friendly and most helpful. Very clean, open air lobby bar and restaurant. It was well situated on the harbor in Philipsburg if you want to be in town. While we rented a car, perhaps we could have gotten away without as public transportation was only a block away. The restaurant was very good though a bit pricy. Being on boardwalk and its beach, nice quiet place for evening strolls and quiet. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 81:The nightlife in Phillipsburg is non-existent if there are no cruise ships in port.

Review 82:We only stayed one night in transit from Anguilla. It was a last minute decision and rooms were limited due to the high season so our expectations were not high. One of the ladies at the front desk blew us out of the water. I believe her name was Lausanne and she was a character. She joked with us and had a infectious personality. Then when we were looking for something to do she hooked us up with 2 other couples and a taxi to take us to Simpson Bay. She even followed up with the restaurant to see if we were having fun. Then she was around the next morning laughing about our escapades. The hotel was better than expected, but she was the shining star!

Review 83:Nothing to do with the Hotel but I got fooled and messed-with thanks to the taxi taken from the airport. All taxi people were pretty rude at the airport. Not a nice tourism welcome to St.Martin

Review 84:very nice place, I was there waiting for a boat. Food in restaurant is OK (I might have not ordered the best choices) Staff is nice. Location town-wise is very good.

Review 85:Only improvement would be better ventilation in the shower room, as it mists up very quickly, takes ages to clear.

Review 86:Brilliant hotel, friendly staff, nice rooms, great bar and food, ideal location.

Review 87:Everything (besides 2 casino and 2-3 privat restaurants on Front street and around) close at 6pm as the area is oriented to cruise ships (port is in a walking distance). So if u want to have a bit of night life (restaurants, clubs...) you should take a taxi (around 10 usd per person) and go to Simpson Bay, for example. No fullfiled minibar in the room so if you need something to drink or snaks after 6pm - better to buy all the needfull things beforehand. And don`t expect too much from the breakfest.

Review 88:Nice hotel with european quality of truly 3*. Great location if you want to spend day at the beach just under your balcony.

Review 89:Not explained on arrival that c card had to be opened again to be able to charge to room.Staff got me out of bed to settle evening meal I had signed for in restaurant.

Review 90:Location,free beach towels and lounger, restaurant and bar.

Review 91:Philipsburg Beach, in the Dutch's St. Maarten, is not the best partof the island. If possible, prefer the French Zone. The staff of thehotel is a kind of rude.

Review 92:Comfortable, the hotel is facing the sea and have a nice bar-restaurant.I think it's one of the best in the Philipsburg Beach.

Review 93:We did not like very much the beach which is too close to a harbor.

Review 94:Since our purpose was to stroll around the shopping streets, the location was very nice.

Review 95:The price is too high for what you get. Although they modernized the rooms it's a quite simple room.

Review 96:Perfect location in the middle of Philipsburg with the beach at the hotel. The room with beach view are nice, but I suppose the rooms on the street side are not very interesting. Breakfast is good, and it's until 11.00 o'clock !

Review 97:An oddly specific complaint...the shower in the room lacked any place to place soap, shampoo bottles, so I had to place them on the floor of the shower. The shower didn't knock them over, but I kept imagining how incovenient/dangerous it would have been for someone less mobile to have to stoop over like I did.

Review 98:The bed was very comfortable, and the room was ample. The location is excellent if you are interested in going to St. Barths for the day, as the ferry from Philipsburg is only about 5 minute walk away. The staff was warm and welcoming.

Review 99:Corridors/stairs/lift need modernising Some staff (not all) a bit unfriendly

Review 100:Beautiful communal areas Lovely beach Stunning views in sea view rooms Lovely bathrooms

Review 101:Select better choices for excursions.

Review 102:Staff were attentive.location and view and easy access to everything.

Review 103:There was no entertainment at all. At night there was nothing to do.

Review 104:The location and the restaurant

Review 108:Great customer service.

Review 109:location and dining

Review 110:Internet reallhy poor, breakfast poor, restaurant does not serve snacks/sandwiches in the evening
