Reviews for Hotel Imperial
Review 1:On a saturday night the club music down below was very prominent which made it impossible to sleep. Earplugs is a must if your not a heavy sleeper. Note; the following 2 days there was no club music.
Review 2:sizable room with a nice interior for a good price, and the location is good, although not the most quiet area on saturdays. Also nice they refund ur breakfast up to 5€.
Review 3:The place is clean but the bathroom might need a little bit of ventilation , i also understand that the building is older ( like most building in amsterdam) so we didnt mind it so much.
Review 4:The staff was very nice . The location is very good . Close to tram that can take you anywhere but close enough to dam square for more touristy staff.
Review 5:Can be a bit stuffy at night as there is no aircon but there are fans in the room
Review 6:Location is fantastic, very clean. We had a room at the rear of the property and we heard no noise from outside.
Review 7:A piece of advice. It is a hotel but at the same time its someones home. So if u stay there make sure you respect the owner and his family. Its surely not the kind of place where you can party in the room and smoke. All the hotel is non smoking only. The owner got a bit too angry which affected our stay but i didnt take it personally because my partner had to learn his lesson. But i wish the owner didnt tell him off so much.
Review 8:Location. And the owner. He had a kick off with my partner because my partner was irresponsible and caused staining on his sink which wouldnt be cleaned (halloween paint). The owner was angry in fact very furious and he told my partner off so badly and he charged him 70 euros as punishment. Why am i rating his hotel so high? Well the gentleman is business man and his hotel is his home and i would be angry too if someone did this to my house too. He went a little over board with telling the person off however he did cool down later and apologised numerously and came out of his hotel to the street to apologise again at checkout. And he did make us an offer which was generous of him. I respect that man so much and i wish him well. I did request a room change on day 1 and my request was fulfilled the second day. The stairs are very kind compared to the rest of amsterdams stair cases. And finally. The hotel offers 5 euros per person per day for any meal u go get from outside u just need to bring the reciept. Iv never seen anything like this its really good and i would go back.
Review 9:After traveling for 1 year in 41 countries, my husband and I found "the man" at the front desk of this hotel to be the most condescending person we have dealt with anywhere. I would not recommend this hotel.
Review 10:The location is great in the center the city.
Review 11:the bed was not so comfetable. the remote control for tv did'nt work well. tha stairs (we were on the third and highest floor) was very chalanging but it was good for burning the calories from all the munchees :)
Review 12:the staff was very nice, qute room with great great great location - right in the center but in a quiet street. in the morning you can do shoping for breakfast and get refund - very comfetable.
Review 13:Charged commission not only for Credit Card payment but also Debit Card (not experienced that before). 3 flights of very steep stairs to my room (but this pointed out in hotel literature).
Review 14:Superb location (near Rembrandtsplein). Very comfortable bed. Lots of good quality towels available.
Review 15:There was no elevator and steep staircase so carrying suitcases up was difficult. Other than that it was good.
Review 16:We liked the location and proximity to Rembrandtplein bars and restaurants. It was also walking distance to the red light district and many other attractions.
Review 17:Lots if stairs which didn't bother me but might put some people off. Decor wasn't fully up to date in foyer and stairwell, but again, that wasn't my priority so I didn't really care!
Review 18:Best part was it's location, very central. I like the breakfast payback thing, the room was nice and clean and staff were helpful
Review 19:nothing
Review 20:Position: the position was great, near the Rembrandtplein. Sleep: our room was on the opposite side of the square where the hotel faces, so it was very little noisy. If you close the windows, you will have no problem. Staff: they were pleasant.
Review 21:The staff were friendly and very helpful. Our room was large and very clean and the bed was comfortable. If you don't like climbing stairs this hotel is not for you. We found the Imperial so close to everything we wanted to see in Amsterdam. If we ever return to Amsterdam we will stay at the Imperial again
Review 22:The steep staircases, as there is no elevator you need to carry your bag up at least 2 flights of stairs. Due to the central location there is quite some noise from the bars downstairs. It said breakfast was included, but there was none. The solution was to buy it as the supermarket & to get reimbursed partially. I didn't think that this should be classified as breakfast is included.
Review 23:The location is super central, just off Rembrandtsplein & with lots of restaurants and bars around. The family that runs it is friendly.
Review 24:The hotel has no facilities, it is basically a family business, with the upper floor being rooms for rent.
Review 25:The location is good and right at Rambrandt square The hotel is much cleaner than other hotels around.
Review 26:The shower was broken and the TV remote did not work. Linen was clean but frayed, faded and very very old. We had to ask for a kettle. The owner was unfriendly and unwelcoming.
Review 27:The location was excellent and directions to get there easy to follow.
Review 28:Nothing
Review 29:Very friendly staff Hotel a little bit tired but perfectly acceptable for the price paid. Hotel location excellent - some noise but needs to be expected in such a central, busy location. Don't go if you are looking for somewhere to spend a few quiet days over a weekend. If you enjoy being in the middle of things - go. Walk to the bistro/cafe for breakfast pleasant and novel. Breakfast was very good and you could sit in or take away if heading out on a trip.
Review 30:Room was very warm (summer), but window could not be left open at night because of the noise outside (lots of restaurants right out front).
Review 31:Nice and friendly room, friendly staff. Good bed, very clean. Great location, tram stop only 150 meters away.
Review 32:See above
Review 33:The location was both good and bad,it's in the center so you may access a lot of things without the need of a taxi, but if your an early sleeper it's very annoying because it's on a street that has a lot of clubs and what not and the noise continues until early morning
Review 34:The place needs a renovation! It smells! It wasn't very clean. Too expensive! Reception closes after 8 pm.
Review 35:Friendly and helpful stuff. Location a bit noisy but good.
Review 36:Good location, nice staff, clean rooms. But it's too noisy there at night because there are plenty of restaurants and clubs at the street in which hotel is situated. But it's Amsterdam and it's some kind of noisy place, so it was not so uncomfortable for us:) a great place to stay in Amsterdam!
Review 37:There were a lot of stairs however this is to be expected.
Review 38:Room was spacious and very clean. The shower was great. Good location with lots of choices for restaurants. Close to the tram
Review 39:poor ventilation and no air conditioning, no lounge, no dining room, stairs very steep and awkward, floors uneven. Good to stay for a couple of nights and no more. However the location is ideal.
Review 40:location and cleanliness
Review 41:There was breakfast included in the price of the stay, you had to go to a department store 5 minute walk away but it was not very good so we went elsewhere the rest of the week. That didnt actually matter as there are lots of eating places all nearby for a reasonable cost. It did not detract from the enjoyment of our holiday.
Review 42:The hotel was in a very good location for sightseeing, and in a lively square of restaurants. The room was at the top, at the back of the hotel, so was quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful with our requests for assistance. The room was nicely decorated and clean. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel.
Review 43:THE STAIRS were a bit brutal but otherwise I really can't complain about this great little hotel!
Review 44:Amazing location right by Rembrandt Station surrounded by great restaurants. The wifi was good so we could plan our day.
Review 45:Our room windows faced the street near Rembrandt square, & it was a bit noisy till late because of the bars nearby
Review 46:Everything was very clean, staff helpful, interior was nice & cosy, wi-fi worked well. I got the letter from the hotel in advance with all the details about arrival, directions on how to get to the hotel from the airport & useful tips. Location is great - you can get by foot for all sightseeing in all directions & it takes from 10 to 20 minutes.
Review 47:I don't have anything to complain
Review 48:i liked the localization, near tram. I also liked the cleanliness... Every single day they changed towels, they wash the floor.. Everything. And our room 12, was amazing.
Review 49:The family that owns the place are lovely, and had terrific recommendations for restaurants, etc. The rooms were cozy and clean, and yes, the steps are steep, but you're not staying at an impersonal chain hotel, and the good value reflects that.
Review 50:Too much cash for a hotel with no additional facilities but actual rooms. Not even a complimentary coffee / tea in rooms.
Review 51:Pretty and clean rooms, good wifi, windows do manage to cover the outside noise.
Review 52:No elevator and a very steep staircase; Noises from neighboring rooms, uncomfortable shower (jacuzzi cabin with no place to turn around?)
Review 53:Very good location, a few meters away from Rembrandtplein with its tramway station and many bars and restaurants. Staff was also very friendly
Review 54:It was in the heart of Rembrandt Square where there were lots of bars and restaurants. It was 15 minute walk to Dam Square and Amsterdam Central Station. Also near the no. 4 9 and 14 trams that went to alot of cool places such as Artis Zoo and Anne Frank House.
Review 55:the bed mattress was not ok, too soft. The stairs were very steep
Review 56:The location is just perfect! be aware that the lower floors could be noisy due to the terraces in Rembrandt Square. I really appreciated that the room had a lot of space, unlike the majority of the hotels in Amsterdam.
Review 57:Entrance hall was awful so first impressions not good. However, better once upstairs. Could not accommodate my daughter's nut allergy.
Review 58:Location. Excellent double glazing (no problem being on a busy street). Communication from hotel before arriving has excellent.
Review 59:The free breakfast was a 15 minute walk away and you paid up front to get it back later. I did not even bother The £12.50 breakfast was also very basic for the price.
Review 60:Rooms at the back were very quiet but quite basic for the money. The staff/owners were nice and helpful
Review 61:Hotel was clean and quiet. Tram stop was just a few steps away and made getting into the city center easy. Lots of restaurants and nightlife right at the square outside the hotel.
Review 62:A lot of stairs but that's normal for most places in Amsterdam.
Review 63:In the centre of everything, decent price, rooms were warm, clean and comfy, bathrooms spotless, very secure.
Review 64:the breakfast which was included was actually a 1€ one from HEMA, very strange system, also because it is available from 9.30 am only...very late indeed, then you have to pay yourself and get your money back. Better they offer the breakfast included in the price of the room, which after all is not cheap at all! Another issue, we had to tell at the reception to do our room, and the owner first wanted us to go and tell the cleaning lady to do it, even saying 'don't be so sure' that she will do it, then after our insistence he went upstairs. really this shows a very lazy attitude and lack of service towards the client. Only in Amsterdam....it is not the first time this happens (although in another hotel), I think cleaning and making the room is not a concept familiar to Dutch people.
Review 65:The hotel is in a very central location, just off the tram stop, but a bit noisy at night because of the music which comes from the near bars and clubs. the room was very big and spacious with a nice lounge. Excellent matress, very high bed, I really liked it. Excellent shower and wifi. The reception staff was giving us the information we asked, this was really appreciated.
Review 66:From the pictures I thought the room was going to be a bit more luxurious than it was - we were facing the back and the windows were small. But the room was clean and comfortable and we had everything that we needed for a short stay.
Review 67:The hotel is really central and close to all areas we wanted to see including the museum quarter. We were able to walk everywhere. The staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to accommodate our needs.
Review 68:Nothing!
Review 69:Had to get a room at short notice and was a bit apprehensive but it was great!right on Rembrandt sq, but quiet inside.we actually had the room in the advert and exactly as advertised. Will def stay next time we're in the area.
Review 70:Not good for those who may have trouble climbing stairs, we were on the first floor and man they were steep! Just off the busy Rembrandtplein we did find our first night disrupted by noise but you get used to it.
Review 71:In a week where cheaper rooms were hard to come by this provided a good option. By no means state of the art and maybe in need of a refurb this provides a no-frills place to stay but a pleasant one nonetheless.
Review 72:The hotel is above a row of clubs (as is probably most of Amsterdam) that are open until 4am. If music beats and crowds on the street bother you, you may sleep sounder elsewhere.
Review 73:Boutique hotel, unique rooms, friendly staff, very clean, close to trains and many attractions/shopping/restaurants.
Review 74:Pillows were not very comfy & shower was slightly small.
Review 75:The location of the hotel was great. Very clean hotel, free wifi access. We had a room at the back and although it is in a busy location when we were in our room we couldn't hear the noise from the street.
Review 76:Poky little attic room with smell of barbecue smoke coming through window. View was a wall and part of roof (I think some of the other rooms were better.) Noise from cafes and bars at night. Very loud slamming doors awoke us in the morning. Very steep flight of steps from street to reception on first floor. Duvet cover stained with ink. Reception closed at 8 pm. Very expensive for a poor quality hotel room.
Review 77:I'm struggling to find anything positive to say apart from the location which was very convenient for trams.
Review 78:Hotel in great location with plenty of shops bars and reastraunts around. Tram easily got jus outside it to take to main attracations also within walking distance. Room was spacious comfy and clean, jus alot of steep stairs to climb to get to room other than that first class wouldt hesistate to stay here again.
Review 79:This place was awful. The hotel is old and falling apart and we had bites on our legs which I can only assume were from bed bugs or fleas, both of which are horrifying. We were harassed by the old man at the front desk which as two young girls traveling alone is very unsettling. There was blood on one of the lamps that was right above our beds. This place needs to be closed down immediately.
Review 80:no elevator, not easy to step up the room, no breakfast
Review 81:cleanliness of room, location, lot of restaurants are around, close to shopping places, close to red light street
Review 82:I always like a lift with heavy suitcase and narrow dutch stairs but it's a good work out!
Review 83:Location was great, easy to tram, to rail, to airport... room was comfy and right on Rembrandt Square... a bit hustle bustle at night but that's Amsterdam. Easy access to coffee shops and starbucks for real coffee.
Review 84:The noise. I was put at the front of the hotel and it is just way too noisy. Bring earplugs.
Review 85:Staff were very friendly. Hotel was clean. WiFi was good.
Review 86:Everything that follows are *minor* issues, and I just mention them for completeness. Being so close to Rembrandtplein, some noise is to be expected betweem midnight and 2 a.m. The wifi stopped working reliably during the night. Everything was fine again in the morning, probably because the morning staff restarted some equipement. A light breakfast is included, but you have to buy it (for €1.5) at the HEMA shop nearby, and have it refunded at the reception.
Review 87:The room was very nicely decorated and very clean.
Review 88:The steep stairs. I'm 25 years old and we took the stairs at a leisurely pace. It would be a great set of stairs to run up for a workout. I don't recommend it for those who may be older and not have the best balance. You do not want to fall back here. We slept through the night, however, the noise echoes from the street. It's best to keep the windows closed for a more quiet sleep.
Review 89:We were greeted by the front desk staff member who was very informative. They have coupons hanging on the wall by the front desk. so you can get discounts on activities in the city. The room was spacious and felt like home. I love the decor. it was like a country style theme with white stained wood and soft blues throughout the room. The shower was cool...with the option of having jacuzzi jets.
Review 90:Too noisy. My Window was facing the street and it was hard to sleep at night. No breakfast included. Very bad breakfast option.
Review 91:Room was nice. Good location
Review 92:Bathroom was tiny and smelled a bit funny (not unclean, just needsairing I think). Pillows were terrible - seems to be a Europe thing :)Location is great for sights, as mentioned, but situated above a numberof bars and restaurants, and not very soundproof unfortunately. Barsseemed to close around 1am. If you're not there to party, staysomewhere else.
Review 93:A great location in terms of all the sights, a bit of a walk fromAmsterdam Centraal but you can tram it if need be. Staff were friendly, room was well-sized.
Review 94:too near the terrible hash bars that are a blight on Amsterdam, awkward breakfast policy, noisy front rooms (if you get one)
Review 95:Blazing wifi, location to trams, comfortable beds, excellent staff, helpful and polite, clean and neat,
Review 96:Ideal location for shopping, food, entertainment and getting to and from other parts of the city. My third stay at Hptel imperial! I will be staying again!
Review 97:Absolute rudeness from the staff. For personal problems I arrived two days later in the Imperial hotel rather than lose the money. Even though I have paid two days without having benefited from any service, when I asked to have a simple coffee in the hotel Imperial they told me to go to drink in a bar far away from the hotel. Thanks again for your rudeness
Review 98:The location is in Rembrandtplein, which is a bar/night scene. So, the only complaint I had was that, while the location was good (it was close to other main parts of the city) -- it was just very loud at all hours of the night.
Review 99:The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The hotel room itself was quite nice, and the bathroom was fairly large (in comparison to other hotel bathrooms in Europe).
Review 100:The pictures don't show the reality. We expected a romantic room and instead we got a normal room, just OK as decoration and cleanigness. For a 8.0 rating on booking.com we've expected more, but maybe room 15 is not the best they have. You have the breakfast from Hema store for 1,5euro, you have to go and get it yourself; this could be previosely specified. A little noisy, even with the windows closed. Don't stay here if you want to sleed all night, stay here if you want to party - best location for that.
Review 101:We liked the location.
Review 102:Excellent Location and Friendly Staff
Review 103:good, but very noisy enviroment
Review 104:Walls are so thin, you hear everything from next rooms.
Review 105:Very good location! Very friendly and helpful staff! The room was small but it was very clean! When I go back to Amsterdam I'll stay there again!
Review 106:Nothing.lifes too short!!
Review 107:Great location.steady walk to Dam square/Centre.trams 2 min away.ideal for a long weekend.
Review 108:Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was exactly what I asked for and I was pleased with size and décor. Within walking distance to all attractions.
Review 109:No lift and internet is not stable occasionally
Review 110:Good staff and location
Review 111:helpful personal, near from the square Rembrandt and Dam, near the canals and other shops, and cafe
Review 112:No lift, so you have to cart your luggage up three flights of stairs.
Review 113:Nice cosy room. Had a jacuzzi in the bathroom. Great location.
Review 114:No bad experience to report :)
Review 115:Location was excellent
Review 116:It's noisy.
Review 117:The structure has no elevator.
Review 118:Room was very large and clean, with comfortable beds. Location is great if you want be at the center of night life.
Review 119:Bathroom facilities are old Window insulation is not quite enough to block sound from a Rembrandt square
Review 120:Location is very good
Review 121:No elevator.
Review 122:In the middle of all the bars and restaurants. Very conveniently located.
Review 123:Helpful staff Clean Near Tram
Review 124:There was no iron provided and wasn't one in reception.
Review 125:Good location, great rooms and bed.
Review 126:Very friendly and welcoming staff. Hotel was in a perfect location in order for us to explore the city. Was also very clean.
Review 127:location, friendly owner.
Review 128:Free breakfast , a waste of time. Include free breakfast IN hotel.
Review 129:Staff and clean room.
Review 130:Small single beds Noise from nearby bars
Review 131:The location is the hotel's most significant benefit. Friendly staff
The Fine Print
You must climb at least 2 flights of stairs to get to your room. They are not steep by Amsterdam standards, but people with stair problems should be made aware. On weekends, rooms facing the front of the hotel may experience street noise if the windows are kept open. If closed, it is quiet and ventilation comes through a special vent.Hairdryers are available upon request.
