Reviews for Newcastle Heights Motel

Review 1:cleanliness, no spoons, coffee and tea just placed on bench. dirty carpet. Seems as though there's no pride in the presentation. Needs a serious overhaul.

Review 2:location, okay bed

Review 3:- Very rude staff - Toilet roll holder was broken - They provided cups but no plates or cutlery! - Sheets were dirty (mould stains) - Toilet/shower was not clean - Way too overpriced!!

Review 4:Parking was convenient

Review 5:The other guests were noisy with loud music and yelling right out side our door. Toilet seat was broken, I had to fix, and the shower tap was coming off the wall.

Review 6:The staff were lovely.

Review 7:Motel was tired. My adult children & grandchildren's family room was very tired. Bugs & cockroaches were seen in the room

Review 8:Bed was very comfortable

Review 9:No bedside lamp, only the fluorescent overhead light. TV had awful reception. Our friend in another room got no towels! No free wifi - this should be standard in 21st century. Australia is behind everywhere else on this. Overpriced for the basic facilities.

Review 10:Easy location, right on the highway

Review 11:The room was unclean with a big gap under the door which allowed the cold wind to blast through. The bed should have gone to the rubbish tip about 20 years ago. The paint was peeling off the ceiling.

Review 12:Nothing

Review 13:Everything, was the worst place I've ever stayed at There were tiles missing in the bathroom, faeces on the floor near the toilet, shower screen had a big crack, note in wall not to use airconditioner and was unable to open window as there was no fly screens on windows only had 2 towels for 5 people, and wasn't given extra bedding for my daughter to sleep on the couch as there wasn't enough beds

Review 14:I didn't like anything

Review 15:The room stank of poo upon arrival, no water pressure, limited hot water the bed and furniture very old and out dated, not worth $290 for two nights, the police took a junky away after an altercation with her partner in handcuffs we ended up leaving a night early

Review 16:The staff was resonably friendly

Review 17:Overpriced, this place is to be avoided. It is in serious need of refurbishment. Shower head didn't work, the place is dirty, smokers outside room, so the smoke came into the room.

Review 18:Wait more than 15 min to someone appear on reception for check in. Carpet was dirty. Mattress were tired and bed cover was ripped. I booked family room for 5pp but room was small and no privacy. Of course I canceled and move the accommodation. Never use again.

Review 19:We had a family room. Top bunk squeaked real bad and kept us all awake at night. Iron did not work and staff member was rude when we asked for another and told they had no spares. They later found one and gave it to us. No place to make a cup of coffee or tea. Microwave was tucked in a corner on a shelf and appliances were sitting on top. Needs renovating, not worth the $ u pay although it's the standard rate for a motel room these days. It is below average compared to renovated motel rooms where u do pay the same. Staff member was polite when leaving and apologised for earlier but damage had been done by then.

Review 20:Overall clean and tidy and close to shops but that's it.

Review 21:The rooms smelt dirty. The tiles in the bathroom are so old it makes the bathroom look mould. A toaster is supplied but no knife or plate to butter on. Just very out dated would not stay again.

Review 22:It has to be the worst place I have ever paid to stay in, ever! Westayed one night (had booked 3 @$200 a night) in a stinky 2 bed apt, Itsmelled like must, It was damp and outdated, after my daughter wassitting on the couch her shorts were damp! The owner was rude, swore atme when I told him there was a rusty toaster and grater in the kitchen,He told me to throw them in the "effin" bin if I didn'tlike them. There was holes in the walls, stains on the beds, a cable tieholding the safety bar to the bed on the top bunk. The furniture lookedlike it was taken out a dump. The walls were filthy. The "bbq"area was a rusty old bbq sitting at the side of a shed. The bathrooms(seriously, I have no words) The second apts bathroom had a windowlooking out onto the kitchen!!!! In fairness it was frosted glass!!!Just steer clear!

Review 23:Liked nothing about this place.

Review 24:Downpipe outside room broken and rattled all night. No bedside lights to get to bathroom. Booked two rooms for my self and husband plus our friends (husband and wife) and had to pay extra for our husbands when we got there. I thought when you booked a double room that was the price. The rooms had a double bed and a single in them. Cost us an extra $12 and if we had been told beforehand we would have booked somewhere nicer for the extra.

Review 25:The cleaning products they had loosely applied smelled terrible - industrial. The cleanliness was not up to scratch (I have worked in a hotel of the same lower standard as a cleaner and expected better). Luckily we bought incense. We chose the place 4 its location and BBQ facilities listed. The BBQ was actually a filthy portable tripod kind - luckily we bought our own which we used.

Review 26:Great location in terms of driving distance from beaches, shopping and places to eat. We stayed there on a long weekend to be close to the beach as a farewell outing for our dad. We requested staff to put some hand picked flowers on the bed that would say "we'll miss you dad". What we got was hand picked flowers in a glass on the table with a hand written note on a bit of paper with the message. When we saw the place we thought we'd done well to achieve that.

Review 27:we had 5 people and only 3 could have a warm shower as the water went cold and the pressure was very low. There was only 4 cups so we all couldnt have a cup tea together.there was an airconditioner but to have it on low it was very cold and we couldnt open a window to get fresh air.the fridge made a really loud noise all night

Review 28:the location to were we had to go was good

Review 29:Kitchen facilities were very old and run down, microwave looked like it was 20+ years old. No curtain in the bathroom which looked over a car rental yard, no bench in the bathroom for toiletries in front of the mirror it was on the other side of the room. Pool needed cleaning. Swings were coming out of the ground and when my 5 year old reported it they did not fix it. BBQ facilities were poor just an old BBQ behind the shed. The price was too expensive for the condition of the property otherwise it was ok.

Review 30:bathroom dirty.floor needed cleaning, everything looked like it needed a good clean and update.have stayed there before and I don't think I would again as it has not changed any

Review 31:staff was lovely,

Review 32:Extensive mould on the ceiling of the bathroom, hard uncomfortable bed, blanket that was as old as me, limited power failure one night which prevented use of TV and jug, front door in process of delaminating, heater which did not work, no free Wi-Fi. Very much over priced for what we got. The unit next door had a broken smoke detector.

Review 33:The location suited our purpose.

Review 34:Not a good place to stay in mid-winter. Being an older style building, the bathroom window had fixed louvres which meant that a cold draught came into the bedroom even with the door shut. The small oil-filled radiator was inadequate to heat the room and the blankets were old and lightweight. We were so cold we didn't even stay the night. On checking out, we were offered a second heater, but felt it would still not be enough to bring the temperature up in the room. May be alright in summer!

Review 35:Good location for Charlestown area

Review 36:The bunk bed was extremely creaky, every time a person moved the bed would make a noise. The window next to the top bunk does not have blinds which meant at 7.30 in the morning sun was pouring through the glass and shining right in my face as I was trying to have a rare sleep in. Provide shampoo & soap mini bottles rather than a dispenser Buy new beds Buy some curtains. I am a big believer in getting what you pay for and I very rarely complain, but for $300 for 2 nights I felt it was overpriced. If it was $200 for the 2 nights I would not have complained as that it what I would've expected - you get what you pay for.

Review 37:I liked that it was big enough for a family

Review 38:Needs to be painted or upgrades in the rooms

Review 39:The pool

Review 40:Very peaceful. Very good location to shopping centre and also to the beaches.

Review 41:It wasn't as clean as I would have liked it. There was no soap, or spoon to stir my coffee.

Review 42:The beds were comfortable.

Review 43:It was looking aged and tired inside!

Review 44:Staff were very kind and helpful!

Review 45:The pool was green

Review 46:We got an upgraded room and it was amazing

Review 47:Hospitality, allthough a little Older than others, the motel Was very homely

Review 48:The rooms need renovating

Review 49:Easy to find

Review 50:value for money

Review 51:The wifi is to slow

Review 52:Iv read other peeps stays and they say it's no good but it's ok for the money

Review 53:The room was clean. New owners since February will probably take time to upgrade.

Review 54:A very old bathroom with a vanity falling apart .

Review 55:They had a cot Available

Review 56:No problems experienced, all good.

Review 57:Very good value, older style decor but very clean room and friendly helpful staff.

Review 58:How the staff made an effort to make us comfortable

Review 59:It was clean but very run down

Review 60:Convenient location and very friendly staff. Bed was very comfortable

Review 61:Tidy, adequate room

Review 62:Don't like carpet on floors

Review 63:Small driveway entrance only drawback

Review 64:Clean comfortable place to stay with friendly staff. Will recommend to others

Review 65:Costs

Review 66:Needs some maintenance, on the room, taps leaked, etc

Review 67:Location, close to facility's

Review 68:Very old and poorly maintained. The sliding door on the bathroom was loose and likely to fall on you and hurt you badly.

Review 69:Smell in the kitchen. ( Cocroach )

Review 70:Friendly Staff Just a few minutes drive to Charlestown Square.

Review 71:Very basic, but still it was all I needed for my short stay

Review 72:Difficult access from main road traveling back from city.

Review 73:could use a freshen up

Review 74:Beds Comfy Lots of space Close to main route

Review 75:Single power point for jug n toaster

Review 76:Traffic noise ....

Review 77:Location is excellent. What you see is what you get, clean and comfortable.

Review 78:The hotel could do with an update

Review 79:The location was good

Review 80:Very dirty. Smells of cigarette smoke. Foxtel doesn't work. Shower glass is broken.

Review 81:Rooms were too cold, mattress felt like you were sleeping on a concrete slab

Review 82:Location of the hotel was central to most places needed to go

Review 83:Dirty bathroom. Ingrained dirt. Electrical appliances all off a powerboard suspended from the power point. Unsafe. Iron dirty and not very efficient. No soundproofing between rooms. Shabby and run down. Needs more than a face lift.

Review 84:Location and helpful staff

Review 85:parking quite poor, everything quite run down, old and in need of a refurb... bad ventilation in bathroom...very ordinary Have booked another place for this week which is cheaper and newer.

Review 86:not much

Review 87:Room needs re-furbishing. Bed lights didn't work which was most inconvenient for reading. Hot water was only luke-warm and not normal pressure.

Review 88:Price was good and location suited our needs. Quiet, despite being on a main road. Comfortable enough.

Review 89:The bathroom was very outdated and had mould on the ceiling. The room was a bit stuffy too.

Review 90:The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. There was plenty of linen and spare pillows.

Review 91:Nothing like the pictures , very scuffy and felt it was unclean .\ could not allow my wife to stay there was not up to her standard

Review 92:Close to where we needed to be

Review 93:On my 1st attempt I drove past it. The sign could be a little more obvious or perhaps another sign down the rd, to make it more obvious. I wouldn't want to stay long term or with kids.

Review 94:It suited my needs fine. I was only there one night, on my own. The bed was comfortable, the room clean.

Review 95:The room needs a lot of maintenance. Aircon freezes up, shower took ages to get hot, light fittings didn't work, tiles in bathroom were cracked, standard of cleaning was basic

Review 96:It was a bed close to everything for the night

Review 97:Not the fault of the motel, but very noisy couple in room next door. Lots of loud, foul language until 1.30 am

Review 98:Friendly, caring staff Easy accessibility to Charlestown Square and to John Hunter Hospital where we needed to visit a sick grandson

Review 99:Very noisy neighbour making noise around midnight, then swearing in the early hours. Maybe management should of said something as advertised in their information folder.

Review 100:Could walk to movies and dining venues, pleasant reception staff.

Review 101:Very dated, shower curtains, blocked drain in basin, cheap and nasty coffee/milk, curtains that struggle to close, noisy trucks next door at truck rental yard, draught from under a not great sealing door.

Review 102:Microwave in room was helpful

Review 103:We were at the front of the facility next to the road which was noisy. The cost should reflect this. We cooked and the pots and pans are verytired and should be replaced. Loose handles, uneven bottoms. The tvsignal was only good on the low channel numbers. Higher channels keptbreaking up visually and audibly.

Review 104:We loved the size of the 2 bedroom unit. Very generous. We liked that ithad a/C.

Review 105:generally shabby the telephone was sat there with the wiring at the wall broken and they were not aware of it!

Review 106:easy to find lady at reception Cathy was very helpful.

Review 107:Very noisy fridge keeping us awake all night; sheets so worn you could no longer see the print; many tiles missing in shower, couldn't open windows as nailed shut; and bedside light didn't work. Staff not available after we checked in.

Review 108:Check in staff was friendly and helpful. Close to restaurants, shopping and athletics carnival.

Review 109:No bed lamps power points hard to access No plates or cutlery except tea cups/spoons and glass tumblers.Room not serviced for day 2 stay Handbasin slow to drain pillows very thin

Review 110:A/C, bed, TV, hairdryer, TV, Iron and Ironing board, cupboard space, fridge, M/Wave, toaster, jug location handy to our needs, online booking and payment good

Review 111:being in the room under the stairs ( the team above us was very noisy on the stairs) getting lost before finding the motel - google directions were not accurate - where the hell is City road? the TV came blaring on at 6am for no reason - we can only assume the previous client set an alarm of some sort - maybe the room service could check that alarms are off? I've never had that happen with a TV before , but it has happened with the clock radio.

Review 112:the owner was very helpful it was close to the hockey centre it had onsite parking booking online it was very close to Charlestown shopping centre

Review 113:A bit rundown but fine for a night. Set back from the road. No traffic noise in the lower rooms. 10mins to Newcastle beach. Curry and a couple of beers at 'Sticky Rice'. Walk along the beach after dinner. Beautiful

Review 114:The shower took a good 10 mins to warm up. The beds aren't the most comfortable but perfectly fine for a short stay. I think including even a cheap dvd player would certainly have improved my experience.

Review 115:Motel was in a great location on the highway. 30 mins from newcastle airport. It does the trick in terms of being a convenient place to stop for the night. The walls were soundproof or my neighbours just didn't make noise. Either way I liked that I couldn't hear any tv noise coming through the wall. The room was very clean and tidy. It also included a small bedside heater which was very handy.

Review 116:The motel was dirty, and had cockroaches on the bench. The bathroom isin dire need of some proper wet area painting. The ceiling was crackingand peeling and mouldy. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.Definitely not worth the the $148 we paid. Very, very disappointed.

Review 117:smells like cigaretts as their is ashtrays full everywhere outside your doors. old rundown room 60 dollars overpriced. trashed rooms should be renovated. air con filters have not been touched in months. poor security for rooms no dead locks on doors or windows not secure.

Review 118:My boys had a bunk bed , Double at the bottom and single on top it was very noisy every time the one on top moved it had a very loud squeak that made everyone else cranky.

Review 119:The man at reception was very nice and helpful.

Review 120:Got a free room upgrade as we booked at last minute and all other rooms were taken. Air conditioning. Pool. Matarra Hotel was good food within walking distance.

Review 121:No exhaust fan in the bathroom although you could open the windows, notdual flush on toilet (uses more water than necessary), hot water tap invanity wouldn't turn on (although we didn't need it), powerpointbehind couch didn't work and a powerpoint in the middle of the wallnext to the table would have been better placed for computers, chargers, etc to leave items on the table to be charged.

Review 122:The view, the large bathroom (although the tiling could have been betterin the shower of no. 18), comfy beds, space, tv, table with chairs withroom to move around them, plenty of space to hang bath towels.

Review 123:The rooms were stinky and ver old. Furniture and utensils were so old and everything was falling apart.

Review 124:Nothing. I won't recommend this hotel to any families. May be backpackers can stay there.
