Reviews for Casa del Sol Machupicchu
Review 1:The wifi was down for a bit but this is common in Peru I think because I encountered this in other hotels in Cusco.
Review 2:The staff mostly. Very friendly and very helpful.... especially the front desk gal Dina. My room was beautiful and I had an awesome view of the river. d
Review 3:The food was fantastic, the chef is exceptional! Staff very good and very helpful, they did us a breakfast at 5am so we could go up to Machu Picchu early and they allowed us to have a shower in the spa afterwards as we had checked out.
Review 4:We did not get to stay at the casa deal sol, but were moved to the Hatun Inti upon arrival. Also an amazing hotel and to make up for it we got free breakfasts a free dinner and a Free lunch
Review 5:No much attention for detail considering the price. A bit of a ripoff.
Review 6:Within a walking distance from both train and bus. Must pay in USD, not in local currency, unless you are Master Card holder.
Review 7:WiFi is only available in the lobby, not inside any of the rooms. And,if your room is facing the river - it will most likely come withmosquitoes... Gorgeous view though!
Review 8:Small boutique hotel offered unique setting w/ local flavor, relaxing accommodations & very personalized service; it is small, soit's quiet without too many other guests). The peaceful, natural vibeis ideal for couples or solo travelers (no rowdy tour groups here). Also, they are very helpful via email (this is huge), should you haveany questions prior to your arrival regarding your stay, site-seeinglogistics, or Peruvian travel in general.
Review 9:Nothing.
Review 10:Super hotel. Friendliest staff of any hotel we stayed at during our week in Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu. Great food, SUPER Pisco Sours at the bar after our day trip to MP, excellent breakfasts and dinner!
Review 11:Lack of courtyard area for smoking.
Review 12:The suite overlooking the river with jacuzzi was spectacular. Open window with river flowing over the rocks was beyond words. Stunning experience.
Review 13:The staff is so nice, rooms are great. The 4 course dinner is great. We happened to mention it was our anniversary and the chef surprised us with a cake made from scratch which we thought was really thoughtful. Loved our stay here.
Review 14:The bath is a bit small and the extractor fan didn't work very well which made the room a bit moist and needed to be aired out by opening the windows.
Review 15:This is a lovely boutique hotel with great service and plenty of extras. Breakfast and dinner were included in the price of the room. Both are excellent, especially the dinner which included (four delicious courses on the first night we stayed and three on the second). Make sure you request a Riverview room (stunning) as the hotel is on the trainline and rooms on that side would be noisy. There is plenty of very hot water.
Review 16:I booked this hotel and had to cut me stay short, I explained this to them on check in and they said NO problem. I said I would gladly pay a penalty, and gave them 72 hours notice. They again said no worries! Then when I checked out they charged me $2100 U.S. dollars for 3 days and 2 nights! nd told me I should have gone to booking.com to cancel, yet no one told me that when I check in and I couldn't have gone online anyway since there wifi was not working! The rooms are small and the hotel is dirty! There is no heating or cooling so being there this month it was cold and rainy and we could not get warm! Don't stay here, there are others that are much nicer and cheaper! Be aware and do your homework!
Review 17:The bartender Sergio was the best thing about this hotel!
Review 18:Make sure you send your information of arrival by e-mail so they pick-up your stuff from the terminal in time. There is no air-conditioning, beware for the hot months. We were ok at the time: 1st half of April.
Review 19:The sound of the river from my bedroom facing it. Cordial staff. Wonderful relaxing massage.
Review 20:The food was great, Staff was amazing, the hotel location prefect and the room was ideal. After trading for 20 hrs to get there, the staff was really helpful and accommodated our every need. The Spa was awesome, I highly recommend it. Dinner and breakfast was inclusive, which was such a convenience. I would recommend two nights stay
Review 21:Amazing view of the roaring river below. Outstanding service with attention to detail. Everything on the Dinner menu was delicious, and Eduardo's service was remarkable. We miss our friends at Casa del Sol Machu Picchu!
Review 22:Get the room with the private jacuzzi overlooking the river! It's a perfect way to end the day after a long hike at Machu Picchu. We also loved the food, the pisco sour lesson, and the homemade truffles that were left in the room!
Review 23:We had food included in the rate which was nice. Also the dinner was fine. howerver the selection of wine was very poor
Review 24:Our room was fantastic - had a small room hanging just above the river - very nice. Service was very personal and very good
Review 25:There is nothing not to like.
Review 26:Casa del Sol has exceeded our expectations. Shortly after booking, contact was made to enquire our arrival needs and staff was offered to meet us at the train station to help us with luggage and bring us to the hotel. The hotel is very short walking distance to the train station but this service ensures hassle-free arrival. The hotel is modern mountain ambience with large luxurious rooms, large comfortable beds and wonderful view to a small river from our room. It is also only 100 m from the departure of the mini buses to Machu Picchu. Perfect location. We stayed two nights and fully relaxed. Breakfast and dinner menus were excellent and service was attentive, warm and caring. On departure we were helped with our luggage and escorted to the train station. We plan to visit Machu Picchu again and we will stay at the Casa del Sol again. Thank you for the entire team to making our stay wonderful and memorable.
Review 27:Shower did not work, exploding water pressure from bathroom sinks sprayed all over room, no hot water, room smelled of disinfectant & deoderant, hinge on deck window fell off when opened & all this for $350.00. DO NOT THINK OF STAYING AT THIS HOTEL - a hostel gives you much more value!
Review 28:nothing to like
Review 29:This isn't really a complaint. But they only have one kind of beer, Peruvian. It's actually pretty good and when I asked for the types of beer they serve they ask if I wanted to small one or a large one.
Review 30:Superclean hotel with very friendly and accommodating staff. My wife and I stayed not knowing what to expect but were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed ourselves immensely. Free breakfast and dinner and cocoa tea what more could you want.
Review 31:We loved our room overlooking the river running behind the hotel. We enjoyed a very nice dinner in the hotel restaurant as well as breakfast the following morning. The location is great for wandering around Aquas Calientes, which is a very lively and growing town.
Review 32:Room was right on the water so i left the windows open to hear the sound all night. You are greeted at the train station and escorted to the hotel. You're then greeted at the front desk with a warm washcloth for your hands, passion fruit juice, and truffles (in your room). Excellent food, quality and service at all times.
Review 33:In any other location, this would have cost half the price.
Review 34:Excellent location, right in the heart of everything. The room overlooking the stream and the cliff face was magical. Inclusion of breakfast and dinner in the price was a real plus.
Review 35:- there immediate answer to everything i asked for was no. - the service felt very confused, disorganized, uncomfortable with answering questions - when i pay nearly $400/room i expect the highest from a place... every thing i asked for, the first response was no. - they were not prepared to give us a packed breakfast because the fruit stands don't open til 5am... what? - they then gave us sandwiches (5 day old ham and cheese on wonder bread when they knew two of us were vegetarian! - not ac in the hotel rooms -couldn't open windows due to mosquitoes - the meal was ok... attempting to be something special - we had a river view, but there was construction til 10pm on the river - there was little attempt to accommodate these challenges - got back from machu picchu around 9:30... they gave us some fruit and said, breakfast ends at 9am... sorry. - yes, sorry i spent so much money on a place that isn't much better than a super 8. - do not waste your time here... you've been warned. i've stayed in many places in machu picchu and this is the first place i will never go back to.
Review 36:room with a river view they did give us a room to shower in before we got on our train
Review 37:Shower water ran around top edge of tub and onto floor - poor design.
Review 38:Friendly attentive staff (that spoke English), beautiful lobby, fantastic room with a view, complimentary breakfast buffet. We stayed 2 nights so we also got a complimentary 4 course dinner. Comfortable!
Review 39:They generously upgraded our room which was wonderful. The hotel is within walking distance of everything (train station, craft market, restaurants, stores). The included dinner was amazing and was our favorite in all of Peru.
Review 40:The hot water went out for about 15 minutes. It was quickly fixed though.
Review 41:The room was awesome. It had a sitting area overlooking the river with a jacuzzi tub. It also had a another shower with great water pressure. The room was very well appointed with a big comfortable bed and hardwood floors. The dinner included in the room price was delicious. The staff was very courteous and helpful. Definitely request a river view room.
Review 42:- limited choice for dinners - wifi in the room not the strongest at times
Review 43:- huge, comfortable bed - river view room is both very private and has wonderful sound of flowing river - close to bus up to MP and central plaza - well designed room - very helpful staff - breakfasts were lovely
Review 44:Couldn't open windows due to many mosquitos
Review 45:The location, delicious complimentary dinner & nice staff
Review 46:We had a problem with our room----they gave us a up-grade for no extra charge-- Thanks
Review 47:Silvia and karen at the front desk are absolutely awesome!! What great customer service :) thanks guys !
Review 48:Perfect location to catch the first bus to Macchu Picchu.
Review 49:Perfect location and staff extremely nice and helpful.
Review 50:Location. Clean room and bathroom.
Review 51:There was nothing I did not like.
Review 52:Everything.
Review 53:Toilet flooded a few times
Review 54:I liked the staff, they made all the difference. Karina was extremely helpful when we needed help with a sick traveler!
Review 55:No AC. Loud trains, barking dogs, and roosters at night. Many plumbing fixtures were loose.
Review 56:Great location. Decent food.
Review 57:Slow WiFi.
Review 58:The hotel was just next to the river with very nice view from the window, staff was very nice and helpful and hotel itselt was great.
Review 59:Excellent service and one of the nicest hotels in the area.
Review 60:It would have been nice to have use of hot tub without having to pay extra.
Review 61:Service was great. Very attentive. They helped us with our upcoming reservations in Lima. Meals were included - well prepared, gourmet meal. Massage was amazing.
Review 62:No air conditioning and bathroom tub leaked onto floor in bathroom. But that was it....everything else was wonderful.
Review 63:They had a swan made of towels and roses when we arrived for our anniversary. Five Star dinner cuisine that was unbelievable and included in the price. Extremely good staff attentiveness and friendliness.
Review 64:Its Aguas Clientes 5 star if you know what i mean (2 1/2 star for USA). No AC, can't open window because bugs. Thank god we have room faced the creek, in May temp drop and with fan was bearable. We stay 3 nights, f
Review 65:Pretty central
Review 66:Wi-fi did not work for us except in the lobby.
Review 67:River view (sounds amazing), nice dinner was included, room was cozy and spacious, staff very very helpful and attentive (the chef prepared a special cake for my girlfriend's birthday) and they let us use the spa after Machu Picchu to shower.even though we had already checked out,
Review 68:Hotel portrays itself as a luxury hotel and charges accordingly. Delivers a one star service. No air con, no bottle water, poor quality food. Made mistake of purchasing half board option. Breakfast was poor and dinner close to disastrous. Rooms cramped. Condition run down and tired. Supposed to meet at train station and did not turn up. Very poor value for money. Rated worse hotel in all of our South American holiday. Would not recommend hotel.
Review 69:Not much to like. Only marginally better than a bed on a park bench.
Review 70:Breakfast and Dinner are included in the room rate and dinner was the best meal that we had in Peru! The staff are attentive. We had to check out at 9 but our train didn't leave until 3, they stored our bags for us. We hiked Huaynapicchu and returned to the hotel at 1 to wait for our train. They set us up in the spa where we were able to take a shower before leaving-all at no extra charge. There concern is for the customer's comfort-an excellent hotel!!!
Review 71:the trains at night are so loud, the price is WAY too expensive, the dinner service was SO slow, and the desk receptionist didn't know basic directions about the tiny town. I would not recommend this place
Review 72:Its great that it's close to the train station
Review 73:Everything! The staff was fantastic!!!!!! The restaurant was fantastic! The renewal of our vows ceremony was amazing, beautiful, spiritual and educational (The package is a must do!) All of your MP needs are also managed for you. Ms. Maritza our coordinator was fantastic! I cannot say enough good things about this experience! Love Love Love this hotel!
Review 74:I've had better wifi
Review 75:Friendliness of the staff and their readiness and willingness to help was unbelievably great. They carried our luggage to and from the train station. Worth the expense. Restaurant was great. Thank you.
Review 76:Reception did not understand much English and was very unresponsive toour need to get the drain in the tub fixed so that my husband could takea shower after a long day at Machu Picchu. She suggested reaching a handin and pulling the drain, something we had already tried of course. Ittook over an hour for the mechanic to come. We also thought thatbreakfast was minimal, the worst during our visit in Peru, albeit themost expensive. The dining room is more like an informal lunch place, not this conducive to relaxing after a difficult day of hiking. Otherpublic space is fairly minimal. In short, not ready for prime time.
Review 77:The room was the only thing we liked about the hotel. It was spaciousand very tastefully decorated. Even here there was a serious flaw.Because of Mosquitos, you cannot keep windows open and there was no fanor ac. The portable fan that they brought did not circulate much Ir.
Review 78:This is a great hotel in aguas calientes, close to main train station and bus terminal. the staff is super helpful and nice food is phenomenal, its gourmet everything Rooms are basic and OK, but nothing really shines out at any of the hotels in the area Rooms face the urabamba river - beautiful
Review 79:Nothing
Review 80:Excelent location, near the train station (Cusco-Aguas Calientes) and the bus stop (AC - MP). The dinner (included) was spetacular. The room is big and very comfortable. The jacuzzi at the room`s balcony, with view to the river, is the best to relax after visiting Machu Picchu.
Review 81:Location, near the train station (in front of the rail) and riverside. You can enjoy the beauty of the nature in Machupichu. Dinner was included and quality of the foods were same level as luxury restaurants in Lima.
Review 82:The location, very close to the bus and train station but then Aqua Calientes is so small that so is everything. The well appointed room had huge windows right next to the river, fantastic, The dinner included was excelent.Nice ambience and reasonable price.
Review 83:Not enough lighting in the bathroom.
Review 84:We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Bathrobes and slippers in the room were a plus. We booked a room with a jacuzzi which helped us tremendously after our hike up to Machu Picchu. Our room was located in the back of the hotel facing the cliff and the rushing river. So was the jacuzzi. Nice! Do take advantage of the half-board meal which includes breakfast and dinner. We were extremely delighted with the taste and the presentation of our meal - not to be missed. It's worth it. Great location; across the street from the train station, a short block to the bus stop up to Machu Picchu, lots of souvenir shops, restaurants, cafés and markets. Btw, even though the hotel is across from the train station, we didn't hear any train going by. Maybe it only arrives at Machu Picchu during the afternoon and not in the evenings.
Review 85:Be aware that the spa facilities are not included in the rate and arevery expensive for what you get for. Something like 45usd to use thehot tub and 45usd to use the sauna per person so its quite dearhowever after enquiring the manager very kindly gave us acomplimentary use of hot tub.
Review 86:The rooms were spacious and nicely decorated. Tina was brilliant! Shehelped us a lot during our stay. It's in the center of aguascalientes and very close to the train station. Dinner was lovelyalthough menu is limited. Breakfast was also limited but goodquality. I would recommend only if spa facilities were included inthe price of the room
Review 87:Room on street side-luckily we could change-make sure you reserve on river side. It is rushing river. You have to sleep with window open if you want air. It is loud-but we enjoyed.
Review 88:Make sure to have a room on river side. View on other side is sad and filthy. Staff was accommodating to change. Breakfast and dinner (3 course) included-nice bonus. Restaurant right on river-muy bonita.
Review 89:Although the price of this hotel compared favourably to other luxury hotels in Aguas Calientes, It should be said that they tend to be more expensive then equivalent hotels elsewhere in Peru.
Review 90:The staff (particularly Tania and David) were friendly and helpful. They did everything in order to make our stay enjoyable. We had a beautiful and spacious room overlooking the river. It was very comfortable and clean. The hotel provided a guide for Machu Picchu (Roberto) who was extremely knowledgable. The massage was first rate.
Review 91:Staff & service very slow even by Latin American standards. Spa quite small & very expensive.
Review 92:+ Great dinner included. Probably the best restaurant in the village. The possibility to take a shower in the spa after we lchecked out & hiked Macchu pichu
Review 93:Price! Somewhat high but still worth it to get an early start to Machu Picchu.
Review 94:Stunning views from rooms and restaurant, beautiful room, whirlpool tub in room, perfect location one block from train and bus, excellent meals included in the room rate.
Review 95:Perfect.Great & staff, especially friendly manager Alcides. They picked us from the train station (5 min. walk). Excellent room with a nice view over the river. Tasty dinner (2 appetizers+main+dessert+glass of wine)included in room rate. Highly recommend to get a massage in the hotel spa after visiting Machu Picchu!
Review 96:Room needs more light
Review 97:Very comfortable, beautifully designed, rooms had heat and hot water (ararity in Peru), staff was very accommodating, four-course dinner (whichwas included) was delicious, lovely view over the rushing river createda white noise that drowned out any trains, very close to both train andbus station. Expensive, but worth it in this town that is filled withoverly-priced backpacker hostels masquerading as nice hotels.
Review 98:Expensive for what you get. Noise of the river may be annoying. Some staff needs more training/experience.
Review 99:Clean and well decorated room. The room is spacious and the bathroom is well equipped and modern. All staff were friendly and some are very helpful.
Review 100:*No A/C (this would have been even worse if we were there in a hotter month.). There were no screens on the window so we couldn't keep the window open due to Mosquitos near the river. They did bring us a fan at our request. *The free dinner was good but took 2hrs because they only had one person preparing the food. *The room was nice enough however, the toilet leaked at the base and the shower spilled over onto the floor (a design flaw that the shower curtain couldn't fix.) *It didn't seem safe having only three staff, two went home to sleep for a few hours (were back by 4:30am) and we aren't sure if the third even stayed the night or just locked the front door. *If you want to use the jacuzzi, you have to notify them 3hrs prior so that they can turn it on. *Overall it seem that they are trying to establish themselves as a higher end facility yet it isn't executed in the quality of the facility nor the overall experience.
Review 101:Of the three staff working... Two were very kind and helpful.
Review 102:WiFi quality was not the best. Even in our room the signal was poor and only enough close to the door. Bathroom floor got wet (almost floded) after use of the shower (even closing the courtain properly)
Review 103:Staff, excellent! River view. Dinner. 4 courses, great selection, and included on the rate!! Interior design.
Review 104:The location could not be more breath-taking, our room was right above the rapids. The restaurant was wonderful - great food and attentive staff. The frontdesk staff could not have been more helpful. I asked where I could go to buy sunscreen and they insisted on going out and buying it for me! The room was extremely comfortable. OUr stay there could not have been nicer.
Review 105:Some technical issues regarding Internet and water, but they were resolved when addressed.
Review 106:Lovely view from the balcony of the suite and very tasty 4-course dinner included in the rate. Very attentive manager, Alcides, which offered good service in arranging tickets for Machu Picchu and guide.
Review 107:The only issue that I had was that even thought that there was Wifi available you were not able to access wifi in your room. I had to go to the lobby and find a wifi spot to access the internet. There were several of the guest doing the same thing. My suggestion will be to get better wifi, other than that I very much enjoyed my stay.
Review 108:The staff is very friendly and helpful. The check-in process was vert quick, I was able to leave my belongings in the room even thought that I was before my check-in time. The hoter is is very clean and beautiful. YOu were able to see the river from the windows in the hotel. The location of the hotel is also perfect, not far from the train station.
Review 109:Very comfortable room, good service and an excellent dinner. We were up too early to have breakfast but the staff oragnised some sandwiches for Machu Picchu
Review 110:Staff lacks experience : forgot to pick us up at Machupicchu trainstation, forgot they promissed to give us an upgrade (which was givenbut we had to ask for it as the receptionist had not been informed..).Hope all this will improve with time...
Review 111:Decoration is very nice, clean new hotel.
Review 112:Being met at the train. Meals included in the price. Very friendly staff. Very flexible around leaving baggage. Great room.
Review 113:Overpriced
Review 114:Restaurant, location, river view
Review 115:Very slick design and beautiful resting place after trekking for 6days. Top notch spa. Great dinner included as wellas breakfast.
Review 116:A little expensive.
Review 117:View of the river and bedroom was very confortable, good location. Food was great, especially dinner!
Review 118:Food that was included was good but limited if staying more than one night.
Review 119:Location is perfect, between train and bus to Machu Picchu.
Review 120:Very very expensive for the type of accomadation
Review 121:The location, ambiance, service, food
Review 122:The included dinner was excellent.
Review 123:Location, excellent service % wonderful food.
