Reviews for Tierra Viva Machu Picchu

Review 1:Slow internet. Bathroom sinks not working properly and water was kind of yellowish (deal breaker for me). I didn't like the basic toiletries: people usually leave their luggage in Cusco and arrive to Machu Picchu with a back pack, so for the very expensive price I expected bathroom slippers, toothbrush kit, shower cap. No coffee maker and no ironing board. Too basic.. for the expensive price!

Review 2:Overall renovated furniture and decoration. Staff so friendly.

Review 3:Nothing, everything was great.

Review 4:The staff was very attentive and helpful. They made our stay quite enjoyable. The buffet breakfast was delicious and started at 5 AM, which was helpful for those wanting to climb Wayna Picchu between 7-8 AM.

Review 5:View wasn't great but only slept in room, room was comfortable

Review 6:Excellent staff, friendly, helpful, room was clean, food was good , good breakfast, lots of food

Review 7:That we didn't stay longer!

Review 8:The welcome was very friendly and efficient, they brought our luggage from the train to the hotel and helped us with our Machu Picchu visit logistics. The room was very comfortable and clean with great view of rushing river outside. They also recommended the restaurant Indio Feliz a short walk up the hill which was terrific. The hotel gave excellent value for money with superb staff and lovely room. We had a great time here!

Review 9:Bathtub in suite was dirty, which after 4 days backpacking the Inca Trail, was unfortunately the only thing (other than sleep) than I cared about.

Review 10:Nice suite, free stuff in mini-bar. Power went out in town but the hotel has its own back-up generator.

Review 11:The scrambled egg for breakfast was the only negative.

Review 12:A very comfortable room. Only booked in for one night but would have been very happy to stay for longer.

Review 13:Overpriced for value. Rooms were similar to another hotel we stayed at in Aquas Callientes at half the price excluding the bedet is the bathroom. Breakfast buffet eggs were cold. Staff was not up to date on hiking trails. We were recommended a hike only to find the trail closed after walking for 45 minutes.

Review 14:Clean and modern hotel. Staff was very friendly

Review 15:The drain in the tub of our shower did not work. The tub was filled with water and had to lift the drain in order for my husband to shower next - which was a hassle and inconvenience. But this is just a maintenance issue and doesn't change the great stay we had at this hotel.

Review 16:Location was very nice. We had a great view from our room. The staff was welcoming and responsive. Staff member met us at train station was a plus.

Review 17:The location is a little sketchy when walking there at night.

Review 18:Attentive staff, they were waiting for us at the train station and we were not expecting this. Comfortable beds. Pretty complete breakfast.

Review 19:Not very good breakfast, a poor choice. WiFi was disappearing from time to time but as far as we understood it is in all hotels there.

Review 20:Location is near the bus stop to Machu Picchu and all cafes. A very friendly staff. Big spacious rooms with a beautiful view on the mountains. They also bring your bags to the train station just like that, which was really good and handy.

Review 21:Internet and phone not working Needed to leave for bus early due to timed macchu picchu ticket and no breakfast available Dinner menu has very limited selections. Construction outside.

Review 22:Location was ideal

Review 23:Terra Viva is in a great location and was very quiet at night. The rooms were very well appointed and there was plenty of hot water for showers. The staff were very nice and helpful. The breakfast was good and the WiFi had a clear signal.

Review 24:I'm very happy we chose this hotel. It is a bit removed from the main street so there is no noise from the train. Actually it faces the river so there is a nice view. The rooms were clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The service where they bring your bags to and from the train is fantastic. We actually were travelling with a group that stayed in another hotel. So we were not expecting to see a representative from Tierra Viva at the train station on our arrival. What a pleasant surprise. The hotel appears to be a bit newer and further from the main streets of Aguas Calientes, which is great since we were able to wander around the little town and then get away from the noise to get a good night's sleep.

Review 25:We had high hopes for this hotel of the locally owned Tierra Viva hotel chain as it is well reviewed among Aguas Calientes many overpriced nightly accommodations. The hotel is well run, staff is super friendly, and the breakfast was comprehensive. Our large superior room was bright and decorated with local weaving products, all for purchase. The room and bathroom were clean. The single glass window panes were more for decoration rather than serving for the purpose of noise and temperature insulation. It is true that the superior rooms face the river and not the railway. But starting at 5:30 am, the busses running up to famous Machu Picchu pass by every 10 minutes or so. The equipment was functional. Unfortunately, two of three wifi routers were unreliable. Overall, this hotel is good for a night's stay and would be recommended for rooms 2/3 of their current price.

Review 26:Very clean hotel, lovely staff. They picked us up from the train station (without any arrangement). They also let us storage our backpacks for free when we went to Machu Picchu. Take away breakfast was prepared for us at 4:45 in the morning

Review 27:Enjoyed very much! Staff was friendly and helpful, rooms were roomy and comfortable. We also stayed at a Tierra Viva in Cusco and wished we had booked this hotel for all of our stays in Peru.

Review 28:The town is very compact, crowded, and uninteresting. It exists solely as the train access point to Machu Picchu.

Review 29:Newest facility we stayed in. Very modern style. Nice buffet breakfast. Wonderful view over the river.

Review 30:The room looking over the river in a quiet part of town that is close to the Machu Picchu bus was great. Everything was modern and clean and the breakfast was delicious. The staff was very helpful as well. The Sumaq just two doors down is twice (or more) as much and the same quality.

Review 31:Rooms are a little dated. Check-out time is way too early in the day although they will hold your luggage for free.

Review 32:Excellent location - close to the train and bus station and away from the main roads. Lots of options at breakfast. Comfortable rooms.

Review 33:The actual town is Aguas Calientes (and you ascend via bus to Machu Picchu): the town itself is very touristy and while having lots of cheap eats does not invite for longer stays. (in that sense the hotel is a haven...we would not stay longer in town than we had to though)

Review 34:Perfect base for exploring Machu Picchu. Staff's English was excellent and they even printed out tickets and organised other smaller things for us. Breakfast was served early enough to take the first bus up to the site.

Review 35:Great hotel in Aguas Calientes, the staff was amazing, always willing to help. Breakfast was very good too. Would highly recommend, clean rooms and good location.

Review 36:The hotel is amazingly situated in Machu Picchu Pueblo on the main street - close to train and bus. Staff and accommodations were awesome no complaints. Food was exceptional and well needed in our adventure to climb Machu Picchu

Review 37:A very good value hotel to visit Machu Picchu. It is newly renovated so everything is fresh and nice: comfortable bed and nice linens, new shower, good water pressure, availability of hot water. The staff was very helpful with everything. We booked the hotel 6 months in advance and payed 125$ for a night in August, I am not sure but it seemed to me that the prices might go up when they finish renovation based on the prices for other properties in Aguas Calientes

Review 38:Noisy from trains and buses, but you can hear them all over town. Some rooms might be better than others.

Review 39:Well-located and fairly new hotel with good breakfast. Laundry service next door. Stuff to make sandwiches and fruit for day at Machu Picchu. Tree House restaurant is not far and is the best restaurant. Also had great pizza and salad at Incontri del Pueblo Viejo near the Plaza. Excellent service meeting us at the bus station and transporting our luggage to the hotel. Lovely decor with beautiful weavings for sale.

Review 40:The wifi signal is a bit slow, but it is ok. Don't expect to watch a movie on Netflix, but you can review your emails and look for information in Google.

Review 41:Nice staff, very helpful with the locations of the attractions in the town (but be aware that in general in Aguas Calientes all the specifications that are not clear in the map are in walking distance, don't expect to have an address). The hotel has the service to bring your luggage to the train station for you. It works very well.

Review 42:There was nothing we didn't like.

Review 43:Excellent light airy hotel with luxury accommodation and extremely helpful and efficient staff. A great experience before Machu Picchu. Just sorry it was only one night. Liked the environmentally aware image too.

Review 44:Nothing at all, excellent value for the price.

Review 45:Firm bed and pillows, got a very comfortable night's sleep. Strong water pressure with hot water. Wifi in the rooms was good enough for minor surfing but for major Internet access (e.g downloads) or work, staff inform you up front that the signal in the lobby is much stronger or to use the business centre, which is fair in my opinion.

Review 46:Nothing to mentikn

Review 47:Hotel is very fairly priced. Agua Calientes is a small village developed around the train station. Most hotels are right in front of the rails , Tierra Viva is slightly off and this is a good advantage when it comes to silence. The whole hotel is quite comfortable, not luxurious but adequately fit and priced. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They offer large rooms that fit easily 3 beds.

Review 48:Just the noises of the buses from Aguas Calientes to Machupicchu but is not that bad.

Review 49:This hotel was perfect to rest after a couple of busy days in Machupicchu. The staff was super friendly, our room was very clean, with a comfy bed and had a beautiful view to the river and the jungle. Free wifi worked perfectly well and the breakfast was perfect. What else do you need?

Review 50:Staff met us at the train station and brought us directly to the hotel. Check-in was very quick and efficient. The breakfast buffet was available early and was of good quality. The room and bathroom were clean and the view from the room was breath-taking. The hotel was very close to the bus leaving for Machu Picchu. Value for money was good..

Review 51:I travelled with my husband and with my aunt. We stayed in 2 differentrooms; even though our room gave us problems with the fire alarm and theA.C. what I want to underline here is the excellent customer servicethat we received. Especially from miguel (I'm sorry I don't knowhis last name but he was in charge of the hotel while the manager wasaway during our stay on July 16 & 17, 2015).MANUEL was excellent not only dealing and solving our problems but also his attitude and manners were very pleasant, friendly and professional. Kuddos for this man! and the rest of the staff was also wonderful at all times. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, and the rooms were spacious, good looking and the bed was super comfortable, and take it from a person who is picky about this kind of stuff. Great hotel, great service. CONGRATS!

Review 52:The wifi was intermittent in the rooms themselves. You had to go to the lobby. I almost slipped in the shower.

Review 53:The room was large, well lit, and the shower water was piping hot! They had tea and coffee 24 hours and the breakfast and breakfast staff were fantastic. I like how the rooms were visible to the receptionist as regards security.

Review 54:The rooms facing the street are floor to ceiling glass which offers great views but are not soundproof. The street is actually very quiet except when people are talking at 5am on their walk to the machu pichu bus. I am a very light sleeper, perhaps that is the bigger problem.

Review 55:Great location to get the bus to macchu pichu.

Review 56:The only thing that needs improvement is the bathroom facilities. It looks like it is an old building and although you cannot tell by the room or common areas, in the barhroom it is obvious. Hot water needs some time to run..

Review 57:Staff was very helpful. They picked us up feom the train station, let us leave our luggage while we were visiting machu picchu and even offered to bring our luggage to the train station again for our departure (we had already checked out). Location is good. Breakfast good as well!

Review 58:Bathtub and shower need attention to be on par with the rest of the room and facility. Recommend recaulking tub and insuring other repairs to ceiling and walls in bathroom are painted and completed so they do not stand out. Other than that, the room, bed and the view were great!

Review 59:The spaciousness of the room and great view of river. Falling asleep to the sound of the river was fantastic! Service at the front desk was excellent. I left too early to enjoy breakfast but there was always plenty of coca tea available in lobby. I really appreciated being met at the train station as well as having my bag delivered to station after a long day in Machu Picchu.

Review 60:This place was perfect no complaints possible

Review 61:Great location, clean, warm , comfy bed and wonderful bed linen and great hot shower. This place was fantastic and worth every penny, the staff were fantastic and super helpful. They did our laundry in a few hours and went and got our buses tickets to Machu Picchu. Great tv channels and lovely breakfast that starts at 5 am. I'm so glad we stayed here, wonderful experience

Review 62:All good. A little pricey bu maybe that is everything in Aguas Calientes.

Review 63:Friendly, helpful staff. Upgraded to suite on roof with large balcony. Close to centre with a fine view of the mountains. Clean and spacious.

Review 64:The location was ideal. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to assist us. The hotel was clean and bright and the breakfast was a great way to start the day. Loved the tea and coffee in lobby.

Review 65:The tub and sink drains were slow, but I was only staying one night so it wasn't a big problem. Additionally, the wifi signal was weak. These minor inconveniences didn't ruin my stay.

Review 66:The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Overall great service. The rooms were adequate and clean. A lot of the other options in this small town are rustic hostels so this small hotel was a welcome option.

Review 69:Nothing

Review 70:Location great. Convenient to train, bus, town. Most of all the staff's friendliness and professionalism. I forgot my ipad in the safe and they took the time to retrieve it from the room and send it to Cusco. Thank you Luis.

Review 71:They picked us and our luggage up at the train station and brought the luggage back to the train station - free of charge. They opened breakfast at 4:45 for us (instead of 5 a.m.), so we could make a 5:30 bus to Machu Pichu. When we came back in the afternoon and had to kill a good hour before going to the train station, they let us rest in the lobby.

Review 72:The hotel's architecture with vaulted ceilings from the lobby up and windows at top allows you to see the mountains all the time and appreciate being right in the middle of them.

Review 73:Super close to the buses for machu picchu. The room was really comfortable and clean. The breakfast was excellent and it was really close to the amazing restaurants in the area.

Review 74:The staff, in particular Richard and Tanya in the breakfast buffet and Luis at the desk, absolutely made our stay. The hotel is very nice and it's location is splendid!

Review 75:Did no found anything bad during my stay.

Review 76:I loved the breakfast. Great facilities, all super clean. Great staff. Decent distance from train station. River noise was very pleasant for me, but it may be not for light sleepers.

Review 77:Staff is excellent. Location is good. Near bus station to Machu Picchu and just tell the bus driver to stop at stop 3, bus will stop in front of the hotel.

Review 78:No double bed was available, had to content with twin. But after climbing Wayna Picchu and extensive walks around Machu Picchu, this was probably the better option…comfortable beds

Review 79:Very centrally located, easy access to all amenities of Aguas Calientes, Bus to Machu Picchu and Train to Ollaytantambo/Cuzco almost on door step. Booked Tierra Viva Hotels on this trip in 4 other locations….very happy with comfort, proximity and attention of staff. Breakfast buffet exquisite!

Review 80:Nothing. It does not have the Peruvian flavor of the more locally owned and run establishments, but we weren't looking for that for that night. We wanted to be well rested and close to the bus.

Review 81:Location,comfort and cleanliness

Review 82:One of the best rooms we stayed in during our trip. Great central location. Near shops/cafes. Very close to bus top that takes you to Machu Picchu. The staff even stood in line for us and delivered our bus tickets to our room. One of the best staffs!

Review 83:Poor wifi - connection went in/out frequently, problem with pipes so no water when we arrived, hot water did not always work

Review 84:Fantastic staff, Huge comfortable bed, super convenient location, nice breakfast

Review 85:The only fault was the WIFI didn't work at all in our room.

Review 86:We stayed here for one night and wished it was longer. We were in a superior room and it was really spacious with a sitting area with a couch and table and chairs, and an extra sink outside the bathroom which was handy for doing hair, makeup etc. The room was furnished tastefully and was very well appointed. We were in a river facing room and the sound of the river (very loud) was soothing to sleep to. Breakfast was very good and the staff couldn't do enough to help us, nothing was too much trouble. It was also a nice touch that drinks in the fridge were complimentary, 2 beers and soft drink.

Review 87:The bathrooms have poor ventalation and subsequently are mildewy. Much water damage.

Review 88:The customer service here, like all Tierra vivas, was fantastic. We stayed two nights and had a problem with the toom we were assigned. The water damage in the bathroom was so bad and the mildew/ mild smell was awful. It was making us sick and the door was so warped it wouldn't close. The room was also directly above the front desk and very noisy. The next morning we asked to be moved. They were more than happy to do it. They even moved our luggage for us while we were out for the day. Always cheerful and helpful at the front desk. Very accommodating.

Review 89:Wifi a bit slow but the town is in the mountains.

Review 90:Quiet room in the hotel with staff that help in every way they can especially Geraldo,Maria and Arson. The bed and pillows were so comfortable and the room was well lit. Breakfast choice is exactly what we always have and Tierra Viva hotels have got it just right for us.

Review 91:Bathroom could do with an update. No evening meals in the hotel. If you don,t like the sound of a fast flowing river you would have a problem.

Review 92:Location is super just out of the noise of the village. Easy walking to bus and train. Very modern and clean. Friendly efficient staff.

Review 93:Gerado at front desk was very helpful. We requested for a king bed and they gave us a complimentary upgrade to a suite with a great balcony overlooking the river. There was a person at the station to receive guests though we were not expecting anyone. They also sent somebody to buy the bus tickets for machu picchu which saved us waiting in line.

Review 94:If this hotel was in a differnt location, I would rate the actual physical space lower, but in AC this is quite good. A larger hotel with some condition issues that are overshadowed by the amazing setting and staff.

Review 95:location in AC - on river (we had river view) away from all the shops. Very nice and helpful staff. Great b'fast

Review 96:they will charge you once you book the room, and there is not refundable, which I understad. But at the day I check out, the staff insist I haven't paid yet, I thought maybe before they charge for deposit which will refund back to me and " real " charge me when I check out, so I paid. But when I'm back to NYC and check my crdit card statement, they actuall charge me twice!!!! I know peopele make mistake, but since I e-mail them ( I also try different customer sevice e-mail address ), three days pass still no respnse!! they charge me wrong and no respnse for my e-mail for that problem!!!

Review 97:The breakfast was okay. The hot items were not hot and the variety was minimal.

Review 98:The location was good and the staff was very friendly. The water pressure in the showers was good and the water was nice and hot!

Review 99:This hotel is not cheap.

Review 100:We had a very nice view on the river. Staff was very responsive. There was a problem with the light, and 5minutes later a technician solved it. Unlike in most other hotels we had in Peru, Wifi actually works. The staff brings your luggage to the train station for free.

Review 101:Nothing everything was excellent

Review 102:Great service and got upgraded room overlooking river. Beautiful view ! Great rest after Machu Picchu visit. Excellently breakfast and location five min walk from train station. Highly recommend this hotel!!

Review 103:Possibly due to the roaring river, there was a lot of condensation in the room.

Review 104:The room was comfortable, hotel staff very accommodating, river view balcony was sweet!!

Review 105:We had a great room overlooking the river and considered the roar of the river to be a bonus. The room was spotless, the towels fluffy, the bed comfortable, the wi-fi worked, the shower was hot, and the breakfast was good. We loved the location as it was away from the hubbub of Aguas Calientes, yet close enough to walk everywhere easily. Without fail, the staff was friendly and helpful. We highly recommend this hotel.

Review 106:Disappointed with the wifi. Hardly any signal in the room and kept disconnecting all the time. Reception area speed was ok.

Review 107:The location was perfect. Right by the river and a short walk from the bus stop. The staff were so helpful and lovely.

Review 108:Wifi was not easy to get in our room 302). Eventually, after resetting it several times it was solved by standing under the modem and connecting. The view from the hotel was stupendous. Unfortunately from our room it was spoiled by an unsightly rooftop covered in ugly clutter.

Review 109:The hotel was new, very clean and the staff were very considerate. They met us at the station and ferried our luggage for us. Breakfast ready at 5 on the dot so we could catch the first buses to Machu Picchu.

Review 110:when we arrived (by train) there was a hotel staff member to assist with our luggage and walk us to the hotel. Nice, clean accommodations with AC. - we stayed on the 4th floor and the river did not create any noise for us. We changed our plans to depart a day early and Eduardo (hotel manager) was very helpful in accomplishing with for us, working with Booking.com and moving our prepaid room to another Terra Viva hotel in Cusco. All staff was very helpful. Nice breakfast in the morning before you depart for your days adventure, most likely at Machu Pichu -- good location, just a two block walk to the bus station and train station. Overall very satisfied !

Review 111:The bed and pillows were miserable, WiFi only worked in the lobby, and none of the bathroom doors in either the lobbies or private room closed properly.

Review 112:Staff was very friendly and the lobby and entry area very bright and clean

Review 113:The wifi signal was weak in the room, but fine in the lobby.

Review 114:We had a very positive experience at this hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room comfortable, and the breakfast delicious. Very effective maintenance. The staff wanted us to have a good overall experience in Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu. The hotel surpassed our expectations both in terms of service and facilities.

Review 115:Great rooms with a view of the river. Breakfast was excellent. Service great. Comfortable beds and good wifi. Stay the night before your MP visit so that you can get up there nice and early!

Review 116:The breakfast - just eat the fruit and cereal and stay away from the rest. There is construction going on next door but it didn't bother me AT ALL, and my room was the closest to the construction . Mentioning this because it might annoy some people.

Review 117:If you appreciate a good view, this is your place. The location is fantastic (at the base of the mountain - the river is right in front of you). The room was a nice size, the bed was comfortable, and I loved hearing the river at night while I slept. Sure there are cheaper options up the hill, but they're all on top of each other and the view is basically of the hotel across the way. I loved this place. It was the most I spent on a hotel during my trip, and I'm so happy I sprung for it. You should too. Oh and it's also right by where the bus picks you up to go to Machu Picchu.

Review 118:Bathroom needed a major spruce up, it felt old and run down Over-priced given the state of the bathroom

Review 119:Super friendly and accommodating staff Excellent location Spacious room

Review 120:restrooms are old.

Review 121:Professional staff and great services. They will pick you up at the train station and deliver your luggage to the station on your way back (free!)

Review 122:Nothing. It's that nice.

Review 123:Almost everything. Staff is friendly and remembers details from your booking. Met us at train station, and upon leaving, brought our luggage up to the station so we could explore town unencumbred. Super nice place to stay in Machu Picchu!

Review 124:Wifi could only be picked up in the hotel lobby, it did not extend to the rooms. There seemed to be a damp smell, but that may have just been because it was raining for a few days and things hadn´t had a chance to dry out. Rooms dated. For USD150/night, this did not seem good value for money.

Review 125:Friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast which starts early for those heading up to Machu Picchu. Relatively clean.

Review 126:WiFi did not reach our room in 503. The place was still under renovation at the beginning of December.

Review 127:Staff greeted us at the train station. Friendly staff.
