Reviews for Anson Bay Lodge
Review 1:Supply of a few condiments & some cooling oil would have been useful. We left ours behind for the next people.
Review 2:Lovely place. Comfortable. Snorkels & fins a plus.
Review 3:Lots of the extras weren't actually advertised at the time of booking - e.g. the car at $20AUD, the meeting at the airport and free shuttle to accommodation, the half day bus tour. A lack of wifi (that is affordable) at the accommodation.
Review 4:We were upgraded to Tau Gardens, which was fantastic. The option of a car at $20AUD a day was great. We had someone meet us at the airport, drive us around briefly and show us some key parts of town etc before dropping us off at our accommodation with our car. We also had a free half day tour of the island on a bus which was great to get to know the place. The island is a great place to get out of the rat-race and to get into enjoying some quality time together.
Review 5:The people of Norfolk are very friendly and welcoming. The overall feeling of the place was peaceful and relaxing which helped to make a holiday enjoyable.
Review 6:roads were pot holed
Review 7:Near by Cooks Monument & Bedrock cafe, Kingstown Penal site had excellent museums and tag a along tours, Emily beach for swimming and excellent cafes (The Olive & Tempo) for coffee and The leagues and Bowling clubs for dinner and Mariahs if you want more up market dinning.
Review 8:If guests weren't planning on driving they need to inform the lodge in advance as otherwise a hire car will be waiting at the airport, and the lodge location on the far side of the island makes walking to shops or tourist attracting impractical. Note that shortly after guests leave the car at the airport on departure the hire company will take it away (meaning you can't easily check-in then quickly drive to the shops). Locations like the Captain Cook landing site appear close by on the map but would require climbing / descending multiple steep hills if on foot. Rather than any air conditioning there's a single fan - might be an issue in mid-summer. There's no turning circle for the covered parking, so you have to reverse onto the front lawn in order to drive out forward. There are no staff on site so you're reliant on the emergency number if there are any issues (which there weren't). If you're not used to harmless mantises/large spiders etc, there are plenty in the gardens. Had to be out by 8:30am on the final day so the property could be cleaned (looks like the cleaners arrived at 8:50) - wasn't charged car hire for this day but you'll have to drive up the mountain or something to fill the time before the flight. Also worth noting that Anson Bay itself is half a mile away at the bottom of a cliff road that might put off most drivers and walkers.
Review 9:Secluded wooded location in peaceful part of the island about 5 miles from the main commercial town and main tourist accommodation with easy road access to the rest of the island. Booked an apartment but was upgraded to the two bedroom house (third bedroom is in an annex). Property is large with covered parking, front and back gardens, covered front and back seating areas with private barbeque area, stove and washing machine. Spacious property - single L-shaped room servers as kitchen, living and dining area. Also has a master bedroom, twin bedroom and bathroom (shower only) as well as multiple cupboards / storage areas. Kitchen equipped with everything you're likely to need including microwave, toaster, oven, fridge, pantry, cutlery, plates etc & is likely to be stocked with adequate tea/coffee/milk on arrival. TV had wide selection of Australian channels and there also seemed to be a heating oven and an electric heater in the main room. There are washing lines out back next to the water tanks, all the windows have fly nets, stereo & mobile phone are provided along with plenty of towels and basic toiletries. The two apartments are semi-detached and also appeared to be a reasonable size but aren't so secluded, don’t have their own gardens or barbeque areas and don't have covered parking. Guests are met at the airport and drive themselves to the property (under escort) in the automatic hire car that is included in the price (daily insurance is extra and is paid on arrival at the lodge to ensure cover). This is a quite part of the island and a car will be needed. The complimentary tour is with the island’s main tour company and guests will have to drive themselves to the commercial town to board their bus (mine was an afternoon tour – covers about a third of the island). Staff sort out all payments / departure times etc on arrival at the lodge, then you won't see them again unless you call their emergency number.
Review 10:Mattress on bed was thin and saggy.
Review 11:Very peaceful, extremely clean, everything you could wish for. Pretty gardens and views. Central on the island - not far from Burnt Pine, but no noise. Car was included (except insurance). Good value for money.
Review 12:Well-equipped two-bedroom bungalow, 2.5km from "downtown" Burnt Pine - an easy walk through bucolic scenery ;) Cheap car rental (AUD20/day).

Review 29:Great location, about 8 mins from Burnt Pine, not too close to town and nice and private. Lovely to drive in and out and meet up with the cows on the roads every trip. Very clean with everything we needed in the accommodation. Comfortable and just what we were looking for.
Review 30:I enjoyed the privacy as I was looking to just relax and not have to deal with anything/anybody It was very private, staff were friendly and was away from the general populace Was able to come and go as I liked and a complimentary car was included It was self contained and had every thing I needed I would definitely be staying there again on my next visit
