Reviews for Hotel Santa Maria

Review 1:Although this was not a problem, I would suggest the following improvements: breakfast - the scrambled eggs on both days we ate there were almost cold. The so called freshly squeezed orange juice is brought to us individually by the friendly waitresses. However, it really tastes horrible. It's bitter and doesn't taste or look as fresh orange juice. I couldn't see any alternative (e.g. concentrated juice from a machine). It would be better to have available jugs with proper freshly squeezed orange juice so guests can help themselves. Better, for a 4 star hotel I would expect to have at least two types of fruit juice. It would also be nice to have bacon/grilled tomatoes/mushrooms etc, as part of the hot food selection during breakfast, considering this hotel caters for an international clientele. In this respect, the hotel could do better and that's why I think breakfast, although very good, it's not amazing.

Review 2:The hotel's interior is very beautiful, spacious and immaculate. Some artwork is displayed throughout the hotel. There is also a really nice gift shop near the Reception area which sells high quality products. We stayed in a triple bedroom which was very spacious as well as the bathroom. There's plenty of stylish and confy seating areas near the bar and reception, some by a lovely fireplace. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Breakfast/restaurant room is airy and spacious, decorated in soft colours. Breakfasts were very good, which included a typical selection of cereals/jams/fresh fruits, different breads, home made cakes (two or three types when we were there), scrambled eggs and mini sausages only as far as hot food goes, plus croissants and a selection of teas and yogurts. We had dinner one night in the restaurant and found the food and service excellent. I had grilled seabass (fish) which was accompanied by some delicious greens. Prices were quite reasonable. The location, peaceful ambient and superb service make this hotel a highly recommended one in my opinion.

Review 3:No internet in rooms, just public area. No enough information at the reception. Bar close early. Breakfast is fair not as generous as other hotels in Portugal.

Review 4:Location,

Review 5:The staff at reception very grumpy , not friendly seemed like we were annoying them, television in room only goes to 40 on volume, could not hear it and there is nothing wrong with my hearing

Review 6:Location was great, staff in dining room very friendly and helpful.

Review 7:2 minute walk to Fatima entrance. Good room - although bathroom looked dated and good breakfast. We also had dinner at the restaurant one night with some friends (17 in the group). Everyone enjoyed their meal so can highly recommend the restaurant as well.

Review 8:It was so near from the sanctuary. So comfortable. And clean. Free underground parking for all the rooms and so easy to get access to the parking without prior booking. Everything was excellent

Review 9:Breakfast - the bread is not fresh enough. The entrance to the carpark is too narrow for big cars.

Review 10:Location is great. The reception area is impressive.

Review 11:The hotel was perfect located just near the holly place (2 min). The room was large and clean and generally everything was great. There was a good balance between quality and price. A lot of shops around the hotel.

Review 12:Bed was a bit uncomfortable, need better mattress pads to soften the spring feel. Breakfast a bit chaotic with all the tours, not sure if that would ever change.

Review 13:Location, big bathroom

Review 14:The breakfast is minimalist and together with group break fast with limited offer on the variety of foods. The fresh orange juice is excellent offered only for private guets

Review 20:The quality of food was not very good. Only breakfast was good enough. No tea making facilities in room but got kettle, tea bags and cups on request. kept removing cups everyday and had to request again.

Review 21:The quality of hotel was excellent and staff were friendly enough. Very near to churches. Very clean and comfortable.

Review 22:The staff was very courteous at all times and at all hours ....very polite....the staff in the restaurant were helpful and kind.....the hotel room was excellent ....It was a family visit with my elderly mother and she had a great experience. ...the basilica is minutes away as well as the museum.......

Review 23:Very old TV in the room with volume problems for English channels. Poor breakfasts.Awful coffee.

Review 24:Clean, spacious room with large comfortable bed. Quiet. Free parking on site. Ideally situated for Fatima sanctuary and day trip to Tomar which is a must. Alcobaca and Batalha Monastery are nearby too.

Review 72:Nothing. Perfect place!

Review 73:Excellent place to stay. 2 minutes walk to the Shrine. Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely food! Good value for money and comfort.

Review 74:I cannot think of anything I disliked.

Review 75:This was our second stay in the last couple of year to visit Fatima. The location is fantastic, staff brilliant and the hotel it's self wonderful.

Review 76:I didn't like the coffee at breakfast, it was tasteless! I would also have liked a plain sugar free yogurt. However, the rest of the breakfast selection was excellent.

Review 77:The staff were very helpful. the location is excellent for accessing the main sites in Fatima. The room was very comfortable, quiet and well furnished. The car park was very convenient.

Review 78:We loved everything about the hotel. This was our third time to visit Fatima and our third time to stay at the Hotel Santa Maria and we could not fault it in any way. Comfortable rooms and beds, spacious bathroom, super clean and helpful and friendly staff, especially the dining room manager.

Review 79:WiFi weak in the room, limited to a portion of the lobby.

Review 80:It was very near the Fátima basilica and the facilities were very good. Comfortable beds, big bathroom, etc. Staff was very friendly.

Review 81:Our room decor was not a 4 star

Review 82:Nice, quiet and clean hotel, 3 minute walking distance to the shrine, breakfast, parking, very friendly and helpful staff

Review 83:Located 3 minutes from the Basicas at Fatima. Friendly staff. Could even see the spires of the original Basilica day and lit at night. Wifi and complimentary breakfast convenient and added to the value.

Review 84:The room was very dirty, the bathroom had hair and walking bare feet on the carpet in the room will get you immediate dirt in your feet.

Review 85:The location was very good.

Review 86:Although not due to the hotel organisation itself, I did find it a bittricky finding the hotel from the bus stop - a hotel website including amap would be useful.

Review 87:Large, spotlessly clean room and bathroom. Comfortable firm bed. Calm, spacious hotel with clever use of natural light adding to serenity.Rooms simplicity speaks of understatement rather than lacking, with allnecessities included plus thoughtful touches such as information bookletabout Fatima. Wonderful paintings insitu added interest and depth tostay. Reasonably priced hotel with inexpensive restaurant. Overall Ididn't feel I had to pay through the nose for a very good stay. Kindbarman America Graca made wonderful hot chocolate.

Review 88:Breakfast lacked inspiration, it catered for your basic needs.

Review 89:The location was paramount, the hotel well furnished, modern with all you needed for a comfortable stay.

Review 90:The location is fantastic, a few steps to the Santuario de Fátima. New and luxurious hotel, beautiful design, very good breakfast. I definetely recommend.

Review 91:Rooms. Beds were unfortable, and bed lining were not of a goodquality. Bed covers were horrible - bath quality and I believe thatthey are not changed often. Bathrooms were not well clean. My roomsmalled like urine.

Review 92:Building architecture.

Review 93:They should have more variety of food or dishes for breakfast. Everyday for breakfast is the same spread. Should invest in a flat screen TV.

Review 94:The bathroom is very spacious. Room very neat & tidy. Very convenient & centrally located. 3 - 5 minutes walk to the sanctuary.

Review 95:Directions to hotel almost non-existent so spent a long time finding it. This is not 4 star but OK 3 star. Like so many hotels of this type the shower is part of the bath however there was no non-slip surface and thus it was quite tricky.

Review 96:Close to our visit destination.

Review 97:Finding the hotel with garmin GPS took well over an hour. My superior room with a view turned out to be a very inferior room overlooking a noisy building site. When I complained about this and the non functioning air condition the receptionist, though polite, was unable to do anything for me. Dinner took over two hours. I only had two courses, but service was unbelievably slow. I chose the kebab in port. I tasted absolutely no port and the pork was fairly nondescript. Chocolate desert was gooey and heavy. Coffee for breakfast tasted like liquidisers a anadins. Thankfully through the good help of booking.com I was able to cancel my second day there. At best this is only a three star hotel, and not a very good one.

Review 98:The car park was free.

Review 99:Nothing, this hotel was excellent value for money and well placed close to the shrine in Fatima. Staff were very helpful even providing us with brollies when the weather turned nasty! I would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Review 100:Everything! Staff couldn't have been more helpful. We stayed 7 nights, had booked in for B&B only. We were offered a free upgrade to a superior room when we arrived which was an excellent start to pour holiday. We sampled the food in the restaurant on our first night with the intention of trying out other restaurants in the area on subsequent days. The food was excellent, very high quality with efficient and friendly service. We ended up dining in the hotel every night of our stay. It was extremely helpful to have an empty fridge in our rooms, empty that is apart from the complementary bottles of water

Review 101:the hotel is modern and roomy - plenty of seating area and very clean. The location is very good and plenty of shops around-there is a take away grill chicken is so delicious and cheap better than Nando in London. I will definitely recommend this hotel.

Review 102:The TV in my room was about 15 inches (I must say I was surprised such small TVs still existed). There was only 1 english channel but most of the time, it played music videos.

Review 103:Located less than 5 mins walk to the Sanctuary. Good spread for breakfast. Generally good all round.

Review 104:We loved this hotel especially the open fire in the lobby when we returned in the evening .staff were very helpfull ,room was clean and spacious .location was perfect .enjoyed our stay.

Review 105:It was bit cold in the rooms though the heater was on.The weather was unusually cold as well so cant blame.

Review 106:Excellent hotel at a classic place.Breakfast was excellent . The restUrant served quality food in very reasonable price...

Review 107:Not sure about the security. Need improvement to feel secure that nobody can open our room

Review 108:Near to the church and the staff are very friendly. Peaceful and good food

Review 109:Nothing to complain

Review 110:Excellent location for visiting Fatima, very tasty breakfast, cleanliness, that was our second stay there and I would choose it again, underground garage included in the price, peace and quiet

Review 111:Breakfast is poor. They should improve the quantity and quality of the breakfast service.

Review 112:Modern, clean and new hotel which is very close to the fatima church (2 minutes walking only). Free wi-fi and free parking.

Review 113:We were told that we had a room in old part of hotel. We found out aboutit when asked why we had twin room instead of double. To make thingsclear - old part look different from fabulous photos you'll seehere. We had small old tv (anyway we did not watch it at all), wi-fididn't work (only in the hall near the room), instead of double wegot a twin (luckily this problem was solved - for this thanks forhousekeeping). Bathroom was almost the same as on the pictures. But Ididn't like disorganization in a way of cleaning our room. It'snot a level of 4 stars hotel, sorry.

Review 114:We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights on January. Standard doubleroom with breakfast. We liked the location. Almost around the corneris Sanctuary. Breakfast was good. Staff was helpful and seems likethey were expecting you to recommend the table and put a glass oforange juice on your table. The room was big, enough space forluggage and things.

Review 115:There is nothing not to like about this hotel.

Review 116:The staff. The location. The spaciousness and cleanliness of the hotel. The heavenly silence of the place. The parking was excellent.

Review 117:Quite difficult to find it (road reconstruction), breakfast pretty good, but nothing special.

Review 118:Location in the city center, nice and helpful staff, good atmosphere
