Reviews for Hotel Taypikala Machupicchu
Review 1:When we arrived the whole building smelled like gas...they informed us it was something they had used on the floors, but either way, it was a toxic fume. There was no hot water in our room for a while.. which they did eventually get fixed. Overall the apartments are very nice, but we definitely hit a few road blocks.
Review 2:Just felt that is was over priced by 25-30% at least given the distance to the train station and walk up hill.
Review 3:Very friendly staff who helped with bringing luggage to train station. Clean, nice facility - with a fantastic over the top breakfast.
Review 4:The water didn't get hot. There were children screaming in the courtyard for several hours at night. Didn't go away until 11 pm.
Review 5:Great views of AC. Very accommodating staff. Clean and spacious. Elevator to 6th floor was a blessing. Great breakfast.
Review 6:- there was noise at night (children playing with firecrackers right in front of the entry). i had to ask 3 times that the staff should make it stop but they didnt. slow service at checkin. - the windows arent well noise isulated. - the doors to the floor have glass on top of the acual door, means if the floor is lit, then the room is lit up too - annoying and absolutely unecessary
Review 7:- very luxurios clean rooms - good breakfast - good location in aguas calientes, relatively quiet (the train station and bus station is not in hearing distance)
Review 8:The location is a little far from the central area, but the town is small so it does not create any negatives. The hotel took care of our luggage to and from the station, so the location dos not matter as well - only you have to walk a little bit!
Review 9:Nice room, clean with hot water and shampoo/conditioner! The staff were great and picked/dropped of our luggage at the train station. I would definately stay there again when comparing to other properties in town and quality.
Review 10:Wi-fi does not work well.
Review 11:Great views of the florest, it's secluded (in a good way) so there is a lot of privacy and the views from the room are fantastic, no noise, rooms were spatious and very clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. We got a room in the 6th floor and were satisfied.
Review 12:WIFI didnt work in my room, worked weakly in the lobby. I ended up going for 1 day instead of 2 and changed my reservation on booking.com and rescheduled. They never got the cancellation and wanted me to pay for both nights until I showed them my confirmation email from booking.com. It was a little annoying especially since the WIFI was weak signal even in the lobby.
Review 13:Good location, close to the bus stop to go to machu picchu. Good breakfast in the am, clean comfortable rooms. Water included in the rooms.
Review 14:The Quality of the WIFI was really bad. A lot of noise during the evening. Hotel needs some paint.
Review 15:The view from my room. Very kind and helpful people. Nice bed.
Review 16:There was no wifi in the rooms and it didn't work very well in the lobby either. The staff was very friendly, but the hotel wasn't as clean as we would have expected either. Our comforter had a blood stain on it, but sheets seemed to be clean.
Review 17:The location was great and the breakfast provided lots of options (it was served early too- a benefit if you are visiting Machu Picchu early).
Review 18:We call for a 4th bed, they confirmed it, but only 3 beds at room &telling they don't have more!? And they charge extra for having a4th person, ending sleeping 2 in one bed! Although we paid for 2 nights4 persons, only went 1 night, they still charge 50% on one!
Review 19:Location & cleaning
Review 20:Against our better judgment we took advice from the bartender for aguide to Machu Pichu and dearly paid for it. We ended up paying doublewhat the approved guides standing outside the gate were charging.Don't get a guide in advance! It's clear that there are kick-backs for facilitating guides. Also - wifi was spotty and I couldn'tget my phone to connect.
Review 21:The location is up the hill and out of the noise of the streets, so wehad a good night's sleep. The staff was helpful and have a greatsystem of getting your luggage to and from the Train station.
Review 22:Wifi was spotty, and the property is at the very top of a hill. So you will have a bit of a hike to get to the property.
Review 23:The staff is very friendly, and they helped get our luggage to/from the train station for free. They do start breakfast at 5am, for those people going early to Machu Picchu. They do have an internet PC down in the lobby to use, which is nice (free).
Review 24:to earn 4 stars a bit more needs to be done: - other hotels meet customers at the railway station and thake care of their luggage, we had to haul ours up to the top of the village ourselves .. .and down also ...they knew of our reservation for several moinths and never copntacted us to offere this service (and believe me, the hill is steep), - the safe in the room was broken and no replacemnt or option was offered - while hotel really looks nice compared to avarage hostels in Aguas Calientes, more attention should be paid to details like covering the valve box with panel, better furniture, place to dry clothes after sweaty trips to Machu Picchu, ... - the water always flowed from shower to the middle of the bathroom and our throw towel was wet all the time, - the peruvina style of windows provides no insulation to sound (you can hear the creek and all the guests in the nearby restaurants), furthermore the single pane design causes heavy condensation (low outside temp and high humidity in the room, due to breathing and drying clothes) and we had rivers of water running of the window shelf, as the colder season started.. - internet in the room is a joke from last century by its speed, though an antenna was hanging from the wall in our room, when reported we were kindly invited to the basement restaurant to read our mail ... - oh, and the lift is not installed, do not ask for the top floors !
Review 25:hotel is nicely positioned at the top of Aguas Calientes village and also at the end of the main (fairly steep) pedestrian street, so all your restaurants and shops are at hand
Review 26:No answer recieved for late checkout request made at time of the booking. On arrival this was not possible. Need to pay at checkin? No wifi in the rooms.
Review 27:Quiet room, good bed, early breakfast, hot water shower
Review 28:the T-plug for the heater melted away on my last night.. so if you smell plastic, unplug the heater right away... otherwise it will melt completely.
Review 29:very comfortable bed, the rooms have small electrical heaters, great views from the room. good breakfast. close to the hot springs. staff is very accommodating, they are currently renovating which can get a bit noisy, but when i told them i wanted to sleep in one day, no problem, they delayed all the noisy work til later in the day.
Review 30:The hotel is a 10 minute uphill walk from the train station. Wifi was not working in the rooms. Very bad connectivity in the lobby also. Construction on 1st floor - lot of noise Entire floor covered with white powder/dust Shower extremely dirty
Review 31:We prepaid our stay, a big mistake because we wouldn't have stayed a second night. There was soiled toilet paper in the waste basket from the previous guests. The construction was loud and constant. The water was shut off periodically and the wifi only worked in the lobby.
Review 32:Not much to like.
Review 33:- breakfast only from 6am to 9am - checkout at 10am - cleaner ignored "do not disturb" sign on our door!!! (we weren't in the room, but didn't want them to clean it) - restaurant was closed - bad wifi connection - power sockets are few and badly distributed within the room
Review 34:- Decoration of the room (except the fridge, heater and displaced couch) - safe - very big flatscreen tv - whirlpool - big bathroom with good shower - bathrobes - good breakfast selection - luggage pickup service from and to train station - the reception can buy bus tickets to machu picchu for you
Review 35:Really nothing .
Review 36:Just infront of the beautiful high hills the magnificent scenery of which could be enjoyed from the hotel room . A little away from the center ( just 5 minuste working ) ensures the cosy and silent - not lousy - atmosphere , still all the convenience - restaurants , shops etc. - is in quick reach .
Review 37:Bit of a hike to get there from bus and train stops but staff picked up our luggage, so this was not bad.
Review 38:Very comfortable, friendly atmosphere, nice appointments, nice breakfast
Review 39:Last hotel on the top of the hill furthest from bus to Machu Picchu. Uphill slog if you are tired
Review 40:Price was reasonable for area and facilities. Staff pleasant and helpful. Held baggage and delivered to train.
Review 41:The bathroom is in urgent need of renovation. They might have put in a new sink and faucet, but the walls and ceiling were mouldy. The walk from the station is really far and uphill.
Review 42:It is definitely not a 4 star hotel. The rooms had cables hanging out, and open panels. Too expensive for what it is. I recommend other 3 star hotels in Aguas calientes which are at the same level but almost half the price.
Review 43:Had decent breakfast. A good variety of fruits that you can take to Machu Picchu.
Review 44:The hotel das being refurbished so the was some noise and some dust. The room itself was ok but I was expecting more quality for a 4 star hotel. A bit overpriced.
Review 45:Our bedroom had a massage bath which was a good thing to relax after the Inca Trail.
Review 46:Travellers beware...you can't flush toilet paper. The wifi only works on 1 device at a time in the room. Street noise could be an issue & because we got a deal we had to pay up front which didn't impress us at all
Review 47:They did not honor my request of a quiet room. I had a room on the first floor which had windows facing a Rasta bar playing music most of the evening. The windows were thin and did not block out the music. The hallway has tile so you hear echos when people are walking in. Breakfast was ok despite the flies flying all arounD it.
Review 48:The staff was courteous
Review 49:For the short periods of time we missed the hot water or water completely because of the works in progress. Also, if you are not down for breakfast they will call you to remind you that the breakfast is until 9 am. I understand why they make this call the first day, but for the next days maybe it would be more appropriate if the assume that you know this fact and just let you sleep without the phone interruptions (because maybe that's what you want).
Review 50:We got the Sweet with the Jacuzzi since they didn't had the other rooms left for the same price as for the normal room. This was really great as we were here for our honney-moon. The WiFi was really good which was important for me to follow some emails. Also, they greeted us on the train station with our name on the plaque and brought us to a hotel and helped bring our luggage, which was really helpful and nice of them.
Review 51:This hotel is far enough from the train station and the center of Aguas Calientes that you don't get a lot of the rail, bus, and street noise that is common closer to station. Yet it is still close enough to get easily to anyplace you need to go to in Aguas Calientes. We also slept with our window open and enjoyed hearing the river throughout the night. The staff are wonderful if you are polite to them. They offered and packed lunches for our day at Machu Picchu. The complementary breakfast was very good. They also meet you at the train station to cart your luggage to the hotel, store it while at MachuPicchu and then meet you back at the station with your luggage when it is time for your train to depart. We would definitely stay here again if we return to MachuPicchu.
Review 52:The shower had a problem and we ended with no hot water for 1 evening. Staff solved the problem when we got back from dinner.
Review 53:Breakfast is good. Although in Aguas Calientes, it is in the far top of the hill. Takes all your breath to get there.
Review 54:WIFI was spotty, even in front lobby area. Bathtub was too high to safely get in and out of ... very slippery for shower. Check-out time was 10:00 am ... not convenient when wanting to spend morning at MP and then return to hotel for shower before the train. Had to check out at 5:00 am before leaving on early bus for MP. (They did allow us to leave luggage in a locked closet until we returned from PM at 1:00.)
Review 55:Away from the hustle and bustle of the main street, yet close enough to walk easily to bus for Machu Picchu, to shops, and to some great restaurants recommended by the hotel staff. Staff was very accommodating in helping with luggage to and from train station. Great buffet breakfast and early enough for first buses to MP.
Review 56:The uphill walk to the hotel is a little steep, so carry the lightest luggage (like we do) or ask the hotel staff for help.
Review 57:It provides a good night sleep to begin earlier in the morning the trip to Machu Picchu. Don't expect something fancy.
Review 58:The smell of moth balls or bugs spray. Decor could use an up grade .water pressure could be stronger. Dogs barking at all times of day and night. But considering what you are paying I think its a good deal. Again this is for the budget frendlie crowd. This is a hotel at the end of the world, is there better yes. will you be willing to pay for it?
Review 59:It is located in a good location. Price is cheap. Right next to the hot water spring bath. Free breakfast nice touch. Free wifi. Free baggage pick up, drop off at train station. No bugs or creepy crawlies. Direct TV.
Review 60:Wifi never worked in our room, but the lobby did work. Hot water didn't work for a day, but was fixed quickly when notified.
Review 61:The Hotel Staff was excellent! Very accommodating and willing to help with setting up all kinds of outside activities. They even arranged for a driver for us after we left and needed a way to quickly explore Cuzco on our way back to the US.
Review 62:They were building a lift - the construction noise was ridiculously loud and went on till 9:45 pm - I stayed here in July 2014 - check to make sure the construction has been completed before you book here!!!
Review 63:Staff were very helpful and kind Breakfast was great Room was clean and comfortable Great location
Review 64:The exhausts in the toilet could be improved although its no show spoiler.
Review 65:Excellent location, decent decor, walking distance from the rail station. Appreciate the luggage pick up and drop facility provided by the hotel. Breakfast has a good spread and tea / coffee is made available 24x7.
Review 66:Portions of the hotel is under construction and new floors are being added. One of our rooms was full of cigarette smoke - I suspect the workers were using it during their breaks since it was unlocked and next to the construction area. We requested and got a change of room but this room had shoddy plumbing - one of the pipes fell off and hurt my sons leg. Another change of room finally fixed the problem but we were annoyed that we had to deal with all this after coming back tired from a long hike.
Review 67:Delivered luggage to train station on time. Close to the hot springs. Good view of the mountains but this is being obscured by adjacent hotels that are adding new floors.
Review 68:A street argument keep us awake at night.
Review 69:They brought our luggage to the train station. Early and good breakfast buffet. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 70:Nice clean hotel.
Review 71:location

Review 74:music can be loud outside suite hot tub takes AGES to fill Suites have communal balcony
Review 75:Great Views and nice part of town lovely restraunts nearby
Review 76:Great views
Review 77:Elevator, great restaurant with excellent prices & good food.
Review 78:Staff was very friendly and helpful
Review 79:Didn't like that the windows don't close all the way and it is really noisy.
Review 80:Loved the staff, especially Emilio. He was very helpful and kind.
Review 81:It's sits on top of a steep walkway, difficult to reach when hauling your suitcases. Staff won't take VISA card and demanded cash payment.
Review 82:Wifi did not work unless you where outside
Review 83:Staff where very helpful Great upgrade on room
Review 84:The superior suite gives you a breathtaking view!
Review 85:location, staff, food. Very nice place to stay.
Review 86:The only way to manage multiple visits to Machu Picchu is to stay in Aguas Calientes. It also has many good restaurants!
Review 87:The view is beautiful, the noise of water river going down, breakfast delicious
Review 88:The fan was noisy, elevator not working.
Review 89:Has rooms for 3 persons
Review 90:NO WIFI IN ROOM
Review 91:COMFOTABLE, WITH LIFT, GOOD BLOCK OUT BLINDS
Review 92:everything
Review 93:The surrounding area is a rat trap where tourists are the rats.
Review 94:Good location for Machu Picchu
Review 95:Bad wifi just connected only ground floor.
Review 96:Kind stuff
Review 97:Elevator out - wifi only in reception - kind of noisy next to the hotel, overpriced.
Review 98:Good location
Review 99:Very steep climb to top hotel.
Review 100:Staff met us and carried our bags. Wifi was in all areas. Breakfast variety was very good.
Review 101:This is a tired, somewhat faded 4 star.
Review 102:Quiet. Voluntary room upgrade. Always good English present. Helpful front desk.
Review 103:Dinner
Review 104:The reception smells. The breakfast was poor.
Review 105:The receptionist was really welcoming.
Review 106:The bar nearby is noisy until 10pm.
Review 107:People are nice and service is good.
Review 108:elevator not working construction mid-day (noisy) located at highest point in town
Review 109:accommodating, helpful staff
Review 110:The room was fool of mold and it smeled really bad.
Review 111:The wifi
Review 112:the bed, the pillow and the food
Review 113:The staff was very friendly and accommodating, the rooms were very comfortable and clean and it is in a great location.
Review 114:Lift not working, noise from building works, location a bit far, had to pay additional tax as my friend lost her customs card
Review 115:Took a cold shower because there was no hot water when I needed....
Review 116:Upgraded me to a Suite at no charge!
Review 117:Rooms smelled musty. Bathroom had whole in wall with exposed rusty pipes and mildew on walls.
Review 118:unfiniished hotel
Review 119:location - further from the loud restaurants and bars next to river
Review 120:Close to Machu Picchu
Review 121:There was construction during the day (May 2014), but not too loud and it stopped by evening. Not much of a complaint because most guests wouldn't be around then anyway.
Review 122:Staff was very welcoming and helpful. Room was good size and clean. Location is good, it's a small town so anywhere is ok really.
Review 123:Aguas calientes is a very small city. It is ok for two nights . Not more.
Review 124:Good staff friendly. Nice people Machupichu is really beautyfull. The best experience
Review 125:There is no elevator. It wasn't a problem for us, but could be an inconvenience if you are on the top floor and are fatigued after a long day at Machu Picchu.
Review 126:The location was great, and the staff was very accommodating. They held our luggage while we went to Machu Picchu, and even brought it to the train station for us so that we didn't have to make the 15 minute round-trip walk back to the hotel after we were tired from the day's hike. The breakfast buffet was also quite good.
Review 127:Our expectations were higher because the website made it look nicer than it was. I'm not sure it's possible to have a view from the room that is on the website but I could be wrong. The facility seemed old, bathrooms were barely passable (squishy tub floor and no hot water), it was really noisy and the room was bright.
Review 128:The hotel staff was great - the service was excellent - they offered to carry our bags to the train station, gave us great recommendations for food and were extremely friendly. Also, the breakfast was really good. We really liked the fresh fruit.
