Reviews for Heritage Hanmer Springs

Review 1:It was all good.

Review 2:The hotel was very suited in its design and gardens to the area. Loved that the garden rooms had such a wonderful view of the mountains.

Review 3:as soon as we walked into the hotel we were asked for our credit card for them to take an imprint for 50 dollers in case we damaged the room or went off without paying! quite insulting really but it seems to be the hotel policy - no real welcome just wanted credit card details which was a bit off putting.

Review 4:nice accommodation in a good resort. Room was large with huge king size bed

Review 5:No air conditioning in the rooms although we did locate a 'fan' of sorts. We all found it extremely irritating to be asked to pay an extra charge because the three rooms/villas we booked were payed for by credit card. No-one I know carries $700 around in their wallet at the best of times. This is a merchant charge to the BUISNESS. If you are not happy with their fee can we suggest that you sit down and renegotiate it with them. Sneaky to just pass this on to the unsuspecting customer - I am not impressed.

Review 6:Friendly Staff, especially the in the dining room. The ladies we dealt with were helpful and very courteous. Lots of smiles - lovely to see.

Review 7:Room 349 bed was very uncomfortable Needed more shade( only 2 umbrellas) in pool area. Maybe a sail?

Review 8:Location, restaurant food, family villa 2nd night Managers offer to compensate for a cancellation of our 2 night stay in a villa. Would be beautiful in Winter

Review 9:On check in was first contact was rude then passed on to another who was very nice. Staff in the restaurant very very difficult to understand and could not answer questions. Did not understand. Room service non responsive when called at 3am. Place was musty and smelly probably due to age but clean

Review 10:The fact it was in the town centre

Review 11:The noise of the rooms. We could hear the receptionists voice when he was talking on the phone or dealing with a client (room #110) I think. Two doors along the corridor

Review 12:The comfort and size of the bed plus good pillows.

Review 13:We had a garden appartment which was lovely and private but close enough to other hotel facilities. It was beautifully appointed and staff went out of their way to be helpful!

Review 14:No lifts. You need to lug your suit cases up and down the stairs. Credit to the staff, where they took your bags up to your room. No poached eggs with the breakfast deal. If we were to stay again we would eat somewhere else.

Review 15:Great location. Great beds and friendly staff.

Review 16:Backed into the road , this was not a problem to us as our booking was over the weekend. However the road workers resumed work on the Monday morning and it was noisy.

Review 17:Location to the Springs was perfect. Nice sunny position of the room. Lovely bathroom , very comfortable bed. We had a garden room number 342.

Review 18:No lift to 1st floor. Room was very small, couldn't swing a cat, but the bed was lovely and big. We wanted to sit outside in the sun but there was no seating to enjoy the lovely garden atmosphere. One window looked out over the service area and recycling bins.

Review 19:Lovely location and grounds

Review 20:We stayed in the garden view room which was directly opposite the tennis court and the beautiful gardens! Very close by to the hotel reception and resturant. We had the perfect location to walk to the pools and shops. A pleasent stay.

Review 21:Internet service was very poor with extremely slow speed and frequent loss of service. No smoke alarm.

Review 22:Location, location, location. Spacious villa with good facilities. Staff helpful and cleaning crew excellent.

Review 23:The electric blanket on the bed had been left on by previous occupants, heater in room left on - not pleasant on very hot day; fridge didn't work and yet motor was running noisily all night; dirty towel from previous occupant left on back of bathroom door; mentioned all this to the lad on checkout and he was rather nonplus about it - in fact I got the impression he didn't give a damn when all he said was "did you check the fridge thermostat". I was paying to stay at the hotel, I did not go there to be your fridge maintenance person. I have wanted for long time to stay at the Heritage as it used to have prestige but I won't stay again and I won't recommend to anyone.

Review 24:The location was excellent, the grounds were peaceful and well maintained

Review 25:The lake view is stunning so peacefully tranquil. It was nice and close to the township in a lovely area for a scenic stroll. Perfect choice for us a group of girls having a relaxing breakaway. Modern, clean & spacious with a gorgeous free standing potbelly fire was just the icing on the cake! We will be back!!

Review 26:The room is well presented but the location of fridge and kettle made it difficult to get to.

Review 27:The hotel is centrally located in Hanmer Springs, easy walk to the thermal pools and locations to eat.

Review 28:The wifi was quite poor.

Review 29:We rented a three bedroom villa. It was absolutely gorgeous. Perfectly decorated. More than enough space for four adults travelling, wish we could've stayed longer!

Review 30:Staff weren't overly helpful or friendly.

Review 31:Room was very clean and tidy - although small. Comfortable pillows and bed. A great location, walking distance into town and hot springs.

Review 32:A slight downer to this hotel was the fact that there is no lift. Although their friendly staff did offer help with our large number of bags!!

Review 33:Nice stay as what I expected from the Heritage. Excellent location. Good quality dinner menu. The bed we had is one of the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Plenty of parking.

Review 34:There were no extra blankets in the bedrooms. So having a heavy frost was very cold. The stereo system is quite dated so we couldn't play our own music. The stair handrail was very loose. The guy on the reception was quite taken a back when I asked if I could check into my location which I found quite rude. He wasn't as welcoming and friendly as I liked for a 4 star hotel but on departure It was very pleasant. It could have been a bit tidier. It seemed a bit rushed.

Review 35:It was a nice night away. We stayed in a villa and it was in the perfect location. It had a nice view and view of the pond. It was quite spacious for 5 people. The fire was really good and having a garage was perfect.

Review 36:A shower in the bath feels a little dated now. At check out, was fully prepared to say how much we enjoyed our stay..... Except I was not asked how our stay was... So I said nothing. But that's all!

Review 37:Location. Very clean and tidy. Good value

Review 38:Was impressed with opening of doors on way out and putting cases in boot of car. Would have liked same on way in when struggling with bags. In winter would have liked electric blanket

Review 39:Comfy bed

Review 40:I did not like the slate slabs that our dinners were served on. Horrible to eat off. Ruined my meal somewhat, unfortunately.

Review 41:Bathroom was very clean and great shower.

Review 42:We were disappointed that we were in a chalet and not the actual Hotel, and felt the accommodation rates were very high given that the facilities were no better than those of a motel.

Review 43:Locality. Warmth in room. Comfortable bed.

Review 44:Loved the fireplace but no kindling provided, only huge logs. Staff suggested kindling not required but this is not so. Wi-Fi poor. Fairly expensive compared to our other nz accomm but it was school hols.

Review 45:Great location. Comfortable 3br apartment. Pleasant outlook. Good parking.

Review 46:I did not like the fact that on arrival we were told that we would have a garden bungalow, not a hotel room. This was promptly put right by the staff. They also gave us a discounted meal voucher and thermal pool free pass.

Review 47:I liked the fact that I could book the room ( as per location address and a room in the hotel ), and it was reserved then and there.

Review 48:Pipes to toilet froze overnight and when rang reception was told there was nothing they could do but it was a problem with some of the garden units in very cold weather - surely if they knew about it there could have designed it better

Review 49:Location

Review 50:Breakfast, $20 for 2 pieces of toast is a bit over the top!! Plus the Toaster wasn't working properly :(

Review 51:The Villa was fantastic a home away from home

Review 52:The evening desk staff didn't seem to want us there as we checked in late (9.00pm). Did not tell us about breakfast, check out etc... and was going to over charge us if I did not check our price quote. car parking is a bit difficult if you don't get in early.

Review 53:Location, right next to Hanmer Springs Spa and local restaurants.

Review 54:No ramp up to entrance. You have to carry bags up steps to reception. No lift so you have to carry your bags up stairs to room. Staff will help if asked. TV too small to view from bed, only on seat in room, no place for two bags Breakfast was just okay.

Review 55:Excellent location, clean and tidy, large room, bathroom good size and facilities okay. very obliging staff. Close to Hanmer pools. Good parking.

Review 56:Tiny bath, no milk in mini bar for coffee, needs updated for the cost of a nights stay. Staff spoke in monotone with very little help when asked questions.

Review 57:The bed was very comfortable

Review 58:Although an la cart breakfast is offered, a 20 minute minimum wait in an empty restaurant for a poached egg seemed excessive and caused us to go elsewhere. Very noisy in the mornings due to other guests slamming their doors. Loved the visit, but would probably not visit again - I've had better in Hanmer Springs.

Review 59:Central location meant easy walk to the Springs, bars, restaurants and shops. Good car parking.

Review 60:Expect free wifi that actually works in the villa for the price paid per night.

Review 61:Nice spacious 3 bed villa in garden setting, great views, close to centre of town.

Review 62:At first when I was trying to decide on which room to choose, I went for this room because it was a special price, so I assumed it would be amazing, but I think what we paid the extra for was the flexibility of the cabin room instead of being in the actual Hotel itself. And the fruit bowl in the photo sold me... there was no fruit bowl :-(

Review 63:Great central location, Friendly staff. Cute cottage like cabin room, beautiful bathroom. Great TV channels, Robes, Tea and Coffee!

Review 64:Unfortunately the man at the front desk was a little rude an uninviting on our arrival. We booked our room on line and he over charge us so our first impression was not that great. However this was corrected when we checked out by a lovely lady who apologized for the inconvenience. First impressions count!!

Review 65:The grounds and facilities are very good.

Review 66:Super friendly staff, clean luxurious rooms, and nothing too much trouble for staff. A service lift could be an advantage but staff delivered out bags to our room which was nice. We left a phone there and staff are having it couriered home for us. Thanks!

Review 67:We stayed in a garden cottage that was away from any noise. We could walk everywhere and all of the staff we dealt with where friendly and courteous.

Review 68:When I made a phone call to the property a couple of nights before check in to see if they had seen my request for early check if possible, person that answered the phone was quite rude and very unhelpful. He came across quite arrogant and could of dealt with me in a better manner. We even said to me I was on a call when you rang so I need to go! Its wasn't my problem that you answered the phone when you were on the phone.

Review 69:Close to all whats happening and whats on offer in Hamner. Apartment in nice location with good outdoor eating area. Nice outlook. Apartment was very spacious.

Review 70:Staff at counter was very helpful, he was an old guy and made us uncomfortable and he was to blunt when asked question. I would not stay here again

Review 71:Not much I don't think it was worth what we paid.

Review 72:Man at the counter obviously did not want guests that looked like us. IE: wearing shorts and tees, we had been traveling for hours and it was hot! The deluxe room was really outdated too.

Review 73:Hamner springs is always lovely.

Review 74:Meal in restaurant was not up to any standard, food very average , eat elsewhere next night.

Review 75:Bedding , layout and decor of villa, the surrounding grounds well kept despite drought.

Review 76:- Not warned about large wedding at hotel - Not able to use restaurant while wedding was on. - Tennis courts next to our room being used at 8am on a Sunday by young children.

Review 77:Location, large rooms and nice bathroom

Review 78:What we paid for expensive, also one side of the bed the legs had fallen off so late at night after husband complaining of blood rushing to his head we realised about the feet and had to fix it.

Review 79:Friendly staff, excellent location in the town, pleasant bungalow in the grounds, fee wifi in the lobby worked fine. We were able to park outside the bungalow which was very convenient. Stayed for Christmas and a small gift of a few chocolates delivered to our room - a nice touch.

Review 80:Price to high for what we got but still very nice. Yep, I think that's it. Oh yea, the toilet had trouble flushing.

Review 81:Location is great, very central. Very clean room, friendly staff.

Review 82:I resent having to pay extra for wifi when the accommodation costs so much.

Review 83:Nice clean spacious villa. It had table and chairs on the deck which overlooked a lovely outside pond area. Enjoyed using the hotel swimming pool.

Review 84:Great location. Helpful staff. Comfortable rooms and deluxe bed. Isobel restaurant anazing. Top class chef creating fabulous meals. Would recommend as a great place to stay

Review 85:Nothing

Review 86:The location was ideal with just a short walk to the heart of Hanmer. Hotel had old world charm and our room had doors onto a small garden to the front. Was only there for one night but could have stayed longer.

Review 87:Cooked breakfast wasn't very appealing. For $28 there was very little choice. Although the service was excellent.

Review 88:Corner room was excellent. Very comfortable and quiet. Clean and tidy.

Review 89:You need to like retro....we did

Review 90:Nice staff, good room and we had the best meal in town. Great open fire drew people together so we had a very pleasant night

Review 91:Property needs a bit of work getting a bit worn around the edges. Bathroom needed an upgrade.

Review 92:Location was great but other places better value in Hanmer.

Review 93:we stayed in the villas which are very good value for a group. I loved the fire because it was homely. There were good cooking facilities in the villa. It was a short walk to the hot pools. The villa had a garage.

Review 94:Quite noisy must have been above kitchen could hear banging and music coming from kitchen . The whole place had a very cold sterile feel

Review 95:Liked the location and the nice windows that could open for fresh air . Room was generally very comfortable

Review 96:Decor in bedrooms a bit dated, needs freshening up - lighter colours.

Review 97:Loved the gardens, checkin lady was lovely. Location excellent, short stroll to the thermal spa to relax and have a massage.

Review 98:We had booked the Deluxe Room as it was my 40th Birthday Celebrations, there was a number of snack items in the fridge and also sitting on top of the fridge area. We did not know if there items would be charged as extras to our bill and we could not find a price guide anywhere. There should be clear instructions if these items were free or not. $50 bond for a room. This is the first time I have ever been charged a bond for a room and really wasn't very impressed, I had already given my credit card details and this should have been enough.

Review 99:Room was lovely and online booking very straightforward.

Review 100:One bathroom for 6 people was not good. There was no free wifi. The ipod dock was outdated and of no use. For $788 for 2 nights this was expensive for one bathroom.

Review 101:The chalet was good for sleeping 6 people, good kitchen facilities although a bit dated. The view over the lake was fantastic.

Review 102:lack of free wifi - time to catch up with the rest of the world. 1.5% credit card surcharge. why don't you just increase the rate? Do you really want to be paid in cash?

Review 103:centrally located, great restaurant, plenty of parking, warm, beautiful gardens, spacious.

Review 104:I was charged a $5.25 surcharge. This is an absolute rip off! If you are going charge this at least be smart enough to build into your rate. I take exception to these "add on" charges.

Review 105:The bar prices were a bit steep and did not encourage you to spend long in there.

Review 106:Hanmer Springs was a good place to spend a couple of days and the Heritage was ideally situated in the centre of the town.

Review 107:Having to walk upstairs lol

Review 108:The male staff member (evening) behind the front desk. He was very friendly, helpful and also had lots of knowledge about the hotel.

Review 109:Their wi-fi policy is archaic and expensive. Wi- fi should be free and part of the service. Their policy of taking $50 on book in just in case is not appreciated.

Review 110:Location is central with easy walking access to all activities

Review 111:The carpet in the room was dirty in several places and looks as though it cannot be cleaned properly.

Review 112:Beautiful old building and the restaurant staff were fantastic as was the meal.

Review 113:The room service was poor orderd night before had to recall and reorder then still took half an hour longer to recive meal

Review 114:Rooms were good close to everything

Review 115:Booking.com had dinner included in our booking, but this was not the case. Heritage apparently only offer the dinner included package thru their website. Was disappointing as many other dining options in the area were booked out.

Review 116:Location, room and all that was fine

Review 117:No close parking. The breakfast was a bit ordinary. One meal in the evening was good the other poor and didn't enjoy. The availability of tables at the evening was limited and had to return for meal at 8.45pm. Just a bit late really.

Review 118:Love the accommodation out the back. Love the old building and history.

Review 119:Lack of lighting in the room - two bedside wall lamps only - no other lights. : ( T.V. positioned in a weird place behind the entry door and no swiveling bracket to make it easily watched from the lounge area. : ( These dysfunctional aspects were perhaps the result of old wiring being used for applications that were not foreseen when the building was built.

Review 120:The location. The size of the room. (old hotel room size beats the the new hotel sizes : )

Review 121:Staff not particularly friendly or helpful

Review 122:Location perfect to enjoy the town centre

Review 123:Bed was comfortable but was a bit small (Maybe a double only)

Review 124:Location to hot pools. Great breakfast buffet.

Review 125:Room did not have good desk setup for laptop. Was also quite dark.

Review 126:Very helpful reception staff and nice hotel grounds.

Review 127:Location and great staff particularly Peter and the other waiting staff..and the cleaning staff..all very friendly and welcoming

Review 128:Very clean house, friendly staff and good location.

Review 129:Stayed in one of the villas, great outdoor space overlooking the pond. Very spacious and suited perfectly our family needs

Review 130:We had a lovely courtyard into the gardens.

Review 131:Reception staff were fantastic, outstanding service.

Review 132:Lovely setting

Review 133:Shower in the bath Suitably efficient staff but disinterested

Review 134:Location Spaciousness of the room
