Reviews for Scenic Hotel Auckland
Review 1:Room feels small for the price we paid compared to other hotels in Auckland.
Review 2:Friendly and efficient staff. Room is clean. Very good location on Queen Street. Airport bus stop is just in front of the hotel.
Review 3:Layout of 2 single bed room, plenty of power plugs and a good bathroom. Lighting was very good , especially for shaving. Staff were attentive, friendly, helpful and smiling.
Review 4:Bed mattress is too soft for us. No car park, but included with the valet cost nzd25
Review 5:The atmosphere is like an antique hotel. There's a dishwasher etc so one can cook in the room, but take care as there's a smoke detector.
Review 6:The staff were very rude. Not only to us but we also noticed it to another couple. They were very abrupt and were not interested in helping us.
Review 7:The bathroom was nice and clean. Also it had a good products to use.
Review 8:Not a problem to bring in extra bed for unexpected extra guest, also found much needed safety pins at short notice. Happy to retrieve car several times during our stay.
Review 9:On the airport terminal to city and return bus stop, so makes for a reasonably priced trip into the city. Close to centre of city and return to airport. Helpful and friendly staff
Review 10:Didn't have my credit card, paid for the room on arrival by eftpos, they still wanted s $200 cash bond before I got the key for the room (knocked it dwn to $100)!! Made us wait in the morning for cleaning staff to check our room before giving bond money back, apparently this policy !! In my opinion not cool, sorry won't stay again :(
Review 11:Room was great bed was amazingly comfortable great selection of teas (the little things count)
Review 12:I didn't like the position of the TV. You could not watch from the bed and could only watch from one of the two chairs. But I didn't go to Auckland to sit in a hotel room and watch TV so wasn't too bothered.
Review 13:Location on Queen Street was good. Skybus stop right outside. 24 hour convenience store a few doors away. Room was clean. Would recommend and will stay again.
Review 14:The staff went out of their way to help and support me when my husband was admitted to hospital following an accident requiring major surgery. Due to heavy hotel bookings the duty managers made every attempt to locate accommodation for me as we had neither family or friends in Auckland to fall back on eventually giving me priority status when cancellations occurred.
Review 15:Nothing
Review 16:Staff were very helpful, friendly and efficient. Our room was excellent value for money with a well stocked kitchenette and 2 easy chairs to relax in. There was even a small carton of milk in the fridge for your tea and coffee. It is in great city centre location in Auckland and excellent value for money. We arrived on our car which they parked for us and we felt the charge for this was very reasonable. We would definitely recommend this hotel. It's location on Queen Street means that you are in the heart of the city centre and nothing is too much trouble for the staff and our room was very well equipped with everything you would need for an enjoyable stay.
Review 17:Check in and check out process I had a early check in request (12pm) they couldn't do it . They said they would give me a call but I didn't received any call, so I check in at 5pm
Review 18:Nice and friendly housekeeping staff Good location
Review 19:No bad experience at all, only thing is I think the website should make it clear where you should park your car (i.e. the loading zone a little further down from the hotel) for valet parking.
Review 20:The Room was clean and setup well(especially for the price!). Service very friendly and obliging. I also found the valet parking setup very efficient.
Review 21:Bathroom opposite bed isn't ideal. View out the window not nice. $338 for two nights have had better rooms elsewhere.
Review 22:Staff were lovely and location excellent
Review 23:The location was very convenient for me. Close to the university of Auckland and the shopping of Queen street. The staff were always friendly, courteous, sincere and highly efficient. In particular I would like to thank Tamara for her outstanding customer service. I will definitely be back there for my next visit to New Zealand!
Review 24:Queen street side accommodation. Lounge furniture , carpet needed cleaning. Invest in a rug doctor machine.
Review 25:Handy to civic theatre. Good cafe for breakfast
Review 26:Location was perfect and having the airport bus right outside the door made the trip to and from city easy especially as the bus runs every 15 mins. The bed was lovely and comfortable and staff were very helpful.
Review 27:The manager and staff friendly. The manager was very accommodating and gave the stay a personal touch. He remembered my son was having an operation and asked how he was
Review 28:Car parking arrangements were odd. Had to arrange collection and then couldn't get access to car at certain times of the day
Review 29:Staff were welcoming and friendly
Review 30:Friendliness of staff, very professional and service with a smile, close to everything in the city, room very clean and comfortable bed. Unlimited used of WiFi.
Review 31:The street noise at 2am but that was because I fell asleep on the spare Bed in the lounge near the window
Review 32:The staff were so hekpful and friendly nothing was too much trouble. Room was clean well equipped and comfortable enjoyed the smell of crisp clean spare linen too available for the couch! An umbrella provided in the room came in handy not to mention the convenient location central to everything with valet parking! Thank you.
Review 33:No bogany but it is what it is.
Review 34:I love the set up. Close to everything in the city. Professionalism of staff was a bonus, very helpful and service with a smile.
Review 35:Overpowering musty smell in room(401).Rang housekeeping about it. Staff member came up to investigate; sprayed air freshener in room and on furnishings and carpet. Freshener didn't last long and in morning we were relieved to leave room. Despite location doubt we would stay here again.
Review 36:Location excellent for our frequent theatre trips into the city.
Review 37:We were on the first floor so noise from Saturday night revellers was loud. Also didn't help that some windows didn't completely close.
Review 38:Made it easy having a restaurant/bar onsite
Review 39:I have stayed before an have never had a bad experience.
Review 40:I have stayed before due to the location, friendly staff and comfortable beds. I am seriously considering buying a feather bed topper from your gift shop! We tried the restaurant this time. Great food fantastic service and well priced.
Review 41:Not a single thing to complain about. :)
Review 42:It is located in the middle of downtown Auckland, and lots of famous venues are only 10 mins away from the hotel by walk. The building looks rusty, but inside it is well-renovated and you will see virtually everything you need.
Review 43:The crispy snapper in beer batter was soggy and tasteless poor work from the kitchen. On double my bill they had charged me $30 more than the agreed Booking.Com price. I presented my copy and the lady receptionist was prepared to dispute my booking form. The male receptionist heard the discussion took over agreed with me and refunded the $30. Not a good experience at reception and not one I wish to experience again should I choose to stay there adain
Review 44:Friendly restaurant staff who were extremely helpful. Also valet service was fist class. Room large and comfortable asked for a quiet room and was allocated one.
Review 45:Didn't like that the buffet in the restaurant the food was cold (heated) as the heat lamps were turned off yet still sold to me
Review 46:Everything was algud
Review 47:The fact that I was made to pay a deposit of 50 dollars which was taken from my account and not properly refunded. I have never had money taken from my account as a deposit before just a card held in case. This impacted on my holiday.
Review 48:Not much to fault, bed was a bit soft for my liking, but my partner loved it. Being on Queen St, there was a little late night noise (stayed Fri/Sat nights), but that's to be expected. TV was a little fuzzy, but we didn't call reception to have it adjusted so it may have been an easy fix.
Review 49:Great location, LOVED the easy valet parking service, very well equipped room. Bathroom, whilst on the smaller side, was perfectly adequate. Good selection in mini-bar. Big TV in room (42 inch?). Honestly, this place was such a surprise, it's definitely going to be our go-to hotel whenever we visit auckland.
Review 50:We arrived jafter midnight and the night manager was unhelpful. We had a lot of luggage and he could not bring himself to even hold the doors open so we could bring the luggage in and check in
Review 51:Daytime service was fine as was cleaning and room make up
Review 52:The rooms were spacious and pleasant. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked. Staff were friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel and would stay again.
Review 53:Had to check out a day early due to ver poor configuration of the room for a disabled person . We could not spend any time in the room except to sleep as I had to move all the furniture onto the couches etc to move bed into lounge room . This left absolutely no room for my husband to move about except to wheel down corridor use the bathroom and then get into bed. Not relaxing at all.
Review 54:Could hear road noise when in lounge but not in bedroom as it was in middle of room. Nowhere to put toilet bag in bathroom except the floor.
Review 55:I liked the room we had a superior queen suite. Bed was away from curtains so stayed dark. Valet parking excellent.
Review 56:We were disappointed our rooms were not ready until late afternoon. We were in Auckland for a concert, it was bought forward because of the weather and we nearly missed it because our rooms weren't ready.
Review 57:Very noisy from Queen St till 3 am when clubs closed. Carpets and upholstery very dirty Supposed to be a Superior Queen size room dread to think what a standard room is like paid $199 but room $169 on last day to cancel not very fair, booked 10/3/15 Musty smell from drains in bathroom throughout unit. Carpets in hallway on our floor also filthy. Very tired all round. Not value for money.
Review 58:comfortable bed
Review 59:Excellent location for walking around Auckland. On Main Street to waterfront. Airport shuttle buses stop directly outside. Excellent food from restaurant
Review 60:Despite not arriving until 3pm we still had to wait for our room to be ready which was disappointing. However the staff were very apologetic and it was worth waiting.
Review 61:Great location being on Queen St and the airport express bus stop is right outside. The room was really nice and clean.
Review 62:It was like a home away from home. After a busy week it was a great place to relax and unwind. Soft but comfortable bed. Clean. Right next to Aotea Square.
Review 63:It would have been better if the valet service was a bit cheaper for a night!
Review 64:Lovely hotel with a great location for walking around in Auckland. The staff were friendly and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. Overall, this was the perfect hotel for our stay!
Review 65:Staff were always friendly and helpful and I liked that there was a souvenir type setup which specifically focused on fundraising for our native kakapo
Review 66:There wasn't anything that we didn't like.
Review 67:This hotel is in a perfect position in Queen Street and is ideal for all attractions in Auckland. The suite that we stayed in was excellent with all the comforts that we needed and the staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant. The food in the restaurant was varied to sort all tastes and very handy after a day out.
Review 68:Rooms have very odd layouts and are a bit dark. It's an old building and feels like it.
Review 69:Hotel is well located and provides good value for money. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Review 70:Nothing to report.
Review 71:Reception staff very helpful - a nice start after 24hrs flying.. Room, although not very large given heritage of building, was very comfortable. Good value and I'd recommend to friends.
Review 72:Construction work was going on across Airedale street, which was a nuisance, but this is not hotel's fault. The breakfast was rather expensive (I think NZ$ 22), but you can have your own using the kitchen facilities provided (refrigerator, toaster, microwave, utilities, plates). The mattress was a bit too soft for my taste.
Review 73:The location is excellent, within easy walking distance to center and harbor. Transportation to and from the airport is also very comfortable, as the airport bus stops at the hotel entrance. The standard queen room that I had was not very large, but it included a small kitchen, which was convenient.
Review 74:The friendliness of the staff and the comfort, and cleanliness of the room. Also really appreciated the environmentally conscious toiletries. Would stay again.
Review 75:The broadband was free but took hours to get on it and it was slow when I did.
Review 76:The room I was given was advertised as a queen but I would consider it a junior suite. The bed was comfortable, the room although dated in decoration still has everything including a small lounge area and a basic kitchen excellent for an office traveller sick of restaurants.
Review 77:I needed some documents printed and mailed away, the staff did it all for me and delivered the documents to my room within 10minutes of me sending it down to them. The room was bigger than I thought it would be, bed very comfy, cool view out across the city.
Review 78:1). The hotel foyer is a little tired. 2). Rates are high for what you get and then parking costs are on top of that.
Review 79:The staff were very friendly and very helpful.
Review 80:One small gripe, nothing big just a bit stuffy in the room, poor ventilation maybe - didn't help that it was a hot weekend and I couldn't find the air conditioning unit. Bin wasn't cleared when we went to our room.
Review 81:Service was excellent. Restaurant downstairs was fantastic, great food! Decent sized room with basic facilities. Great location, very quiet and convenient. Will definitely stay again.
Review 82:When we arrived the Room was nothing like the one who saw advertised against the Room Type. It was very disappointing. The bathroom as well as the room was half the size than expected.
Review 83:The pictures online in the gallery showed that our room was much bigger. We were both disappointed. We would not have stayed if the room was that small, it was not worth the money. Our bed felt old and lumpy. Also Valet parking was a hassle as you had to wait 30 minutes for your car.
Review 84:Being right in the middle of Queen Street was great!
Review 85:The Bathroom was a bit small but i still enjoyed the comforts of the room.
Review 86:I work in the hotel industry and found that the staff here are so professional and are always greeting you, even if you are just walking pass the Reception area!
Review 87:Had to share double bed with 12 yr old daughter as "share twin" and no single bed share twin left. Was not advised of this on booking. No view - view of back alley and air conditioning pipes.
Review 88:The room in which we stayed was not so quiet even though the windows were closed. Soundproof windows can be a solution.
Review 89:Cleanliness, its location and kindness of the staff
Review 90:The bed was very soft, but that might appeal to some. The corridors, lobby and building exterior seem a bit run-down compared to the good quality of the room, so don't let first impressions deceive.
Review 91:The airport bus stop is right at the door and it is centrally located on Queen St. Staff were helpful and professional. The room was well-appointed, clean and tidy. The room had a basin/bench/oven, with the bed space able to be closed off from the lounge/dining space.
Review 92:Apart from a microwave no cooking facilities. The only place we stayed in the whole of NZ that didn't have a hob to cook on.
Review 93:Clean room. Location ok but not enough eating places in the area.
Review 94:Whilst we were aware that the room faced inwards, we were not made aware that the air conditioning duct would be right outside the window. This made the room very noisy and found it very hard to sleep.
Review 95:We had booked a twin studio room and when we checked in were shown to a double room at the back of the hotel with a large single bed. When we pointed out the error, the hotel blamed Booking.com and told us that no other rooms were available. They eventually bought a small single bed up from the basement and squeezed it into the room. Hotel was noisy and room was very tired.
Review 96:Wine glasses unwashed on arrival Snack items not replaced from previous day No porter service on arrival Inadequate parking for vehicles on arrival
Review 97:Reception staff very good Car parking sytem works well
Review 98:We would expect more friendly staff at the reception/counter. Sometime you have to wait a bit long to your queries answered. Guest should be the first priority.
Review 99:Location is excellent. Good WiFi facilities
Review 100:The free wi-fi. Full service wi-fi should have been provided for free.
Review 101:The location of the hotel was terrific. Right in the heart of downtown Auckland.
Review 102:We were unpleasantly surprised about information untill check in that a deposit (additional charge ) of 50 $ would be charged. We have tried to pay it cash, receptionist asked in these case 150 $ per day! So we have agreed with CC payment. Today, e.g. after 7 days this amount did not appeare on our accout again! No information on booking.com - part hotel policy!
Review 103:The room was overly warm and we couldn't work the thermostat on the heating but I guess we could have got some assistance on working it but couldn't be bothered. Just slept on top of the bed due to the excess warmth.
Review 104:Loved the location as it is very central. The rooms proved spacious and comfortable catering to all I required for the price. The bathroom also lovely and clean - great shower!
Review 105:We stayed overnight and the location was excellent having travelled from Whangarei by bus and then going on to Palmerston North the next morning by train.
Review 106:The bed in the first room I got was really bad, Ihad to tell the Duty Manager that I was going to leave the hotel before he upgraded me to another room. The second was bad as well. The bed was uncomfortable, tea cups were dirty, toilet was dirty.
Review 107:Hard to sleep, there was a festival right outside and come sunday night they were still making noise and packing up at midnight. Can't be helped though and overall a good experience.
Review 108:The location and the price was really reasonable for 2 people for 2 nights.
Review 109:Only stayed 1 night for a catchup with friends and family in the city. But even for 1 night staff treated me great. Friendly and thoughtful. Last minute request for late check out which was a bonus...ask and you shall receive. Room was spacious, clean and shower was great! Great stay will recommend to anyone short long term visit. Cheers Scenic Hotel. Winning!
Review 110:No spare umbrellas available for guests at the lobby.
Review 111:Special mention of your staff Jordan who was really helpful and went out of his way to assist us with required information. Overall our stay was enjoyable.
Review 112:Cost of parking. All though other hotels charge same or more
Review 113:Everything was Awesome at scenic hotel. Friendly staff, valet parking, free wifi, close to everything in town. Comfy as beds, clean room and bigger room than expected. Definitely well return to this hotel.
Review 114:room would be great for a solo traveler but bed was the size of a king single and was a snug fit for a couple. staff were unable to answer basic questions like what time room service ends and car service did not open till 7am, hotels alternative was to have us park a few kms away in a public carpark and walk down at 5am to retrieve it.
Review 115:soaps very nice
Review 116:Not the Hotels fault ,BUT the builders starting work on the site next door at 5am .Even on Saturday !
Review 117:Lovely comfy bed ,nice helpful staff .Great location ,close to everything we needed .Will definitely stay again ,when we visit our family again .Thank you
Review 118:I was not impressed by the cleaning, which was spotty. Some things were just left undone during my lengthy stay there (almost two months). The restaurant needs work. The only bad dinners I had in Auckland were in the Scenic's restaurant; breakfast was the exception. Quite good.
Review 119:The front desk staff were warm and friendly.
Review 120:Could hear what was going on ouside, people, traffic. There must have been a parade in aotea square so heard all that from my room, but this did nothing to ruin my stay, just thought i would mention it.
Review 121:Everything for me was perfect
Review 122:Noise on one side of the building - room was above an area used for what seemed to be an all-night business. This was rectified by moving rooms.
Review 123:The location is great, rooms were clean and comfortable. I had a noisy room and asked to move which was done without a problem. Would definitely stay again (I have stayed twice now)
Review 124:The bathroom facilities could do with some maintenance. The toilet did not flush properly and the shower pressure wasn't as good as I had expected.
The Fine Print
