Reviews for The River House
Review 1:Mosquitos. Not something the owners can do much about so absolutely not intended to be a complaint. Just watch out if you're prone to being bitten and/or have a strong reaction to bites. Despite having repellant on at all times, I was bitten every day. Cover up and be vigilant!
Review 2:Nice guest house in a gorgeous setting, on the river. Make sure you ask for directions before setting off as otherwise it would be difficult to find. We stayed in the suite but in hindsight would have managed with a straightforward double room as we did not use the kitchenette/living room. Accommodation homely rather than stylish luxury but as always with guest houses it is the helpfulness and relaxed atmosphere that makes it. Good breakfast, helpful advice about what to do and see etc. Angela organised a trip to swim with dolphins, which was great as we beat the big tours out and avoided the crowds.
Review 3:Not so easy to find for the first visit, afterward very easy.
Review 4:A must for an independent traveller. Very good location among similar kind of houses, interesting and very kind owner, We loved this place and tranquil atmosphere.
Review 5:It's better to have a car in Mauritius. River house is a little out-of-the-way. But if u have a car n Googlemap, it won't be a problem. Btw, I stay in the main house where the owner is upstairs. And due to its wooden structure, the move from upstairs woke me up in the morning. No big problem.
Review 6:Thanks Angela and the whole team for your warm accommodating. She really cooked nice food for us :) Amazing view in front of the house which makes u so relaxing. The room is small but clean n well equipped.
Review 7:When Andy checked us in he said 'you have the room and the house'. Over the 7 nights we were to appreciate that we were sharing Angela's home. The room was large and clean with a delightful private balcony overlooking the river. A delicious breakfast was served overlooking the river. A highlight of our stay was an evening meal cooked by Angela and her staff that was shared by all 9 guests. A wonderful experience with people from the Netherlands, Reunion Island, Algeria and Australia. Angela also arranged a swim with dolphins morning with Cedric a local fisherman. An early start to beat the large number of boats that seek out the dolphins, and we were rewarded with about 70. An amazing morning. On our last day we had a late flight. Angela popped in and said that as no one was booked for that room we could have the use of it until we left for the airport. A lovely gesture that made our last day memorable and relaxing. A big thank you to Angela and her friendly staff for a great week.
Review 8:Authentic Mauritian experience in delightful surroundings. Hostess Angela has a great team of friendly staff with wonderful home cooking. Dolphins on the doorstep.
Review 9:The River House is in a stunning location at Tamarin. Angela and her staff made us very welcome after a long haul flight. We arrived on a Monday when all the local restaurants were closed. Angela then cooked us a meal which was great and then gave us loads of local information about supermarkets, restaurants etc. A really great start to our holiday.
Review 10:The room is a little crowded as one of our luggage is big and it seems not that convenient to go out at night.
Review 11:The front and back yard of Mrs. Angela's house is really lovely especially the landscape of the near river and background mountain is terrific. And there are lots of crabs near the river side. All of the decoration and furniture in the house remind me of the elegant and gentle British. BTW, Mrs. Angela also cooks well.
Review 12:Basically everything was great.
Review 13:Extremely friendly and helpful owner and staff Location on the river bank but same time 2 minutes from the Tamarin bay beach. Delicious breakfast Feeling like being at your own family's weekend house... Thank you Angela again!
Review 14:the location is a bit isolated, we have to take a taxi to the nearby shopping mall to have dinner
Review 15:1) the house is just in front of the river, it's very quiet, we love the view very much 2) people there are very nice and helpful 3) we like the dogs very much, and the birds were always with us, when we were having wonderful breakfast 4) very close to the tamarin beach, only 2min by walk
Review 16:The welcoming of Madam Liliane was not professional. We understood the owner Mrs Angela was away on holidays but She had personally called me to apologise and made my stay comfortable as ever.
Review 17:Real quiet place to relax ..
Review 18:Room décor was dowdy and the religious prints and sculptures seemed out of place. The room had a stale potpourri smell.
Review 19:The size of the two connecting rooms was perfect for my husband and I and our teenage son. The views from windows and porch was lovely. Location was perfect - about a two minute walk to the beach. Thoughtful to provide guests with candies and milk in refrigerator.
Review 20:The River House hotel is charmy, clean and has this "home feeling"... Breakfast was delicious with a great view of the river. One evening we shared a meal with other guests and that was a very nice experience. Beach is 5 minutes walk and well worth it!
Review 21:Nothing
Review 22:There is not much more to add to all previous reviews regarding the wonderful rooms, breakfast, views and friendly staff. The website photos say it all! The attention to detail is amazing and the kindest owner, Angela, has great knowledge of the island and can assist with any excursions. The location is very close to the southern sights. A delicious meal withs other guests was a memorable evening. Go to one of the big resorts but save a few days for a stay at the River House!
Review 23:some noise came over at night (maybe from tamarin bars on the other side of the river), isolation between the two bungalow rooms could be improved
Review 24:river view from bed and veranda, great location right at the river and less than 5 minute walk to the laid-back little tamarin beach, Angela is very friendly, takes so much care of her guests and has great staff, excellent breakfast, good location on the island with many highlights in short driving distance, very nice bungalow with excellent clean facilities and surroundings (pool, garden etc.)
Review 25:Long way to next bus stop. Car/Scooter is essential but with it it is very nice.
Review 26:House was very nice. Very good breakfast. Very short way (250m) to a nice beach. Kayak for free. Personal very friendly an helpfull (drove us to next city for free etc.... )
Review 27:Service and room. Breakfast on the veranda overlooking the mountain. Our uncrowned beach 4 minute walk away. The laid back unspoiled feeling on this section of the Island. The proximity to the mountain areas was a perk. Just beautiful.
Review 28:We had the small room on the ground floor, which has a bit of an awkward layout. It didn't bother us because we stayed only a couple of days, but it could feel small for a longer stay.
Review 29:A true B&B in a house decorated with taste, and a princely welcome by very friendly staff... All the unique touch of a home stay with a prime location.
Review 30:Angela and all the staff made our stay enjoyable. Excellent breakfast, excellent service nothing was too much trouble. Lovely room with all amenities, superb view of the river.
Review 31:Nowt
Review 32:Everything, really; the River House is in a beautiful spot in the less developed, more mountainous and (to my mind) lovelier part of this beautiful island. I have great memories of being joined by delightful little birds at breakfast time overlooking the beautiful river with the mountain behind, and of the frogs croaking from the other bank of the river at night. But equally wonderful were Angela and her charming and helpful helpers/staff. They could not have been more kind. Thank you!
Review 33:Staying in the River House means to experience something very different than holiday in a resort in the most positive way. The house furnished in colonial style makes and impression of staying at your favourite aunt´s house. The location of the house is quite romantic - on the silent (unless local frogs go crazy at night...) riverside with a view to the Tamarin mountain. It is 5 minutes walk to the beach and the town of Tamarin. Although you can have a dinner in some of the few Tamarin restaurants, do not miss the opportunity to dine in the house itself. Not only because of the high quality of the food and drinks, but also to experience wonderful evening with other guests and especially Angela - a charming host. Angela as well as Andy and other staff members are very friendly and helpful and will provide you all the necessary practical information and assistance (car rental - highly recommended to rent your own car in Mauritius, arranging trips etc.). Thank you once more for such a pleasant stay!
Review 34:The hard to find location Bad roads to get there
Review 35:The amazing view The silence all around The breakfast just makes your day Disciplined, well trained staff Excellent facilities River in front
Review 36:small bedroom as we booked the standard one however bathroom bigger. difficult to find so better to ask for directions beforehand
Review 37:lovely location, amazing staff, very well looked after. wonderful breakfast next to the river
Review 38:absolutely nothing
Review 39:waking up in the morning in a very nice and cozy room, make your morning coffee (which was complementary in the room) and go out to the balcony to find yourself on a very nice wooden deck 2 steps down into the garden which lay one the river's coast. the scenery was breathtaking, the whole area is very quite except for the sounds of the birds, all the rooms are directly on the lake, and over looking the mountain. the hotel is only 5 mins walk from the beach. the hotel owner is a very nice old lady, very friendly and polite. the staff also share the same manners. there was a canoe laid on its side, the hotel's owner said we can use it if we wanted and for no extra charges, we didn't do it bit it seemed like a very nice idea. All in all it was the most relaxing and beautifully located hotels i have ever visited.
Review 40:The amazing river touch location, with a wonderful breeze flowing through the day makes it a very pleasant experience. Along with it there's a very warm hospitality by the host Mrs. Angela Piat. Just cant be expressed in words.
