Reviews for Douangchan Plaza Hotel
Review 1:It was too far from everything. You need to walk a minimum of 20 mins to get to a decent restaurant. In the middle of the night our air conditioning unit broke and started leaking. We had to change rooms at about 2am. I'm returning to vientiane in a few days and I definitely won't be staying here again.
Review 2:It was clean
Review 3:I booked online because there was a deal on($100 deluxe family room for $40) however we only got a $40 room in which they squeezed a portable bed. I tried to explain the mistake but the staff said I had only booked a $40 room. It was late at night after a big day travelling and there weren't any other rooms. The whole experience was horrible as we had a grotty room, uncomfortable beds and continuous noise outside. Why did I not get the supposed deal that booking.com advertised?
Review 4:We arrived for breakfast at 09:20. There was nothing left while it was supposed to work until 10:00. Personnel VERY unwilling to help in breakfast area. They even refused to bring glasses to us and we drink water in coffee mugs..... Actually no food left for us there and they were continuously talking on their phones didn't care at all for the customers.
Review 5:clean to a normal point relatively good location not far from center . Quiet location also. Reception personnel very welcoming and willing to help.
Review 6:I've stayed in over 300 hotels and this one must be the worst. I booked for 3 nights and had to pay the full amount upon check-in. I later understood why: most people will want to run away after one night. Impossible to get a good night sleep, the mattresses are so poor that springs are sticking in your body. Checked another room but it was the same. "Superior triple room" was two single beds plus a mattress on some iron frame crammed into a room with tiled floor and no atmosphere. Bad breakfast in a dirty room. Bad location far away from points of interest. Unprofessional and unfriendly staff.
Review 7:Staff was very nice. Our booking was mistaken..no open room for the night. But instead we got to stay in the VIP room for the same price! Best stay ever.
Review 8:The only criticism i did have is the wifi wasn't great, in fact the last night I was there it wasn't working all night but I am sure they're working on this
Review 9:Many reviews tell of the staff being unfriendly and speaking little English. I certainly didn't find this the case. The staff i spoke to had enough English to understand and deal with most problems. There are lots of comments about the hotel being a bit of a walk from the centre but you can see when you book it where it is and it's only a pleasant 10 to 15 minutes walk away. It's a very clean and comfortable hotel and I enjoyed my stay here.
Review 10:Breakfast was very repetitive but not bad
Review 11:Great restaurant across the road called P.O.Y coffee and a fruit shake stall across the road does great iced coffee
Review 12:On the last evening there was no Internet until the morning, probably a regional problem.
Review 13:We were 4 days in the hotel, very clean, great staff, some speak English. Excellent and free internet. A good place in town.
Review 14:Breakfast not so good dining room a bit messy.A bit like feeding time at the zoo , staff put the food there and then run for cover. Awful coffee
Review 15:Good enough location. Clean comfortable room.
Review 16:it is a little far from the main attractions of Vientiane . The staff was also not really helpful in giving recommendations and information.
Review 17:The room was clean and comfortable.
Review 18:The staff especially the women on the front desk weren't particularly well trained had bit of an attitude problem which we didn't experience anywhere else in Laos and this was the most expensive place we had stayed.
Review 19:Its a nice new hotel, clean rooms & the wifi is fine.
Review 20:Not close to the riverside if u are looking for the touristic area. not many restaurants around but still some local places to eat in the surrounding area.
Review 21:Good size rooms and nice bath tube. Good breakfast
Review 22:There was no WiFi in the rooms on two consecutive days. Therefore, I checked out.
Review 23:I was reimbursed in Dollars in cash as I had pre-paid a one-week stay with my credit card.
Review 24:We have travelled for months in Asia but our room wasn't cleaned for quite some time. Bins not emptied, no towels on the room, hairs in the bed, etc. Even after asking to make our room it was not ok. Still bins not emptied not cleaned. WIFI was never working whether in the room nor in the lobby.
Review 25:Location is safe and quiet but 15 min walk or 20'000 LAK for TukTuk from center. Breakfast was ok. But no fruits and eggs are cold (buffet). No real coffee only 3 in 1.
Review 26:breakfast is available until 10am. At 9am however whatever is left is cold. Fruits, coffee, tea, bread all was out at 9am. The tables were very dirty. We asked the staff if we could have some fruits and hot coffee but nothing happened as they were watching TV instead. The location is a little difficult as there are very little restaurants around.
Review 27:very nice big rooms, comfortable bed
Review 28:The location was very poor nothing around the area for walking distance to go and eat and have to watch the stray dogs from biting you . Breakfast was very poor as well not much choice
Review 29:The staff were very helpful but did not speak much english lucky I had my thai girlfriend to talk with them. The hotel was clean
Review 30:the location was somewhat far from the city center and there were no restaurants or coffee shops in the vicinity
Review 31:Everything functioned properly, including hot shower, air-condition. Good breakfast. the bed was also comfortable.
Review 32:The breakfast is 'okay' The hotel is about 12 minutes by TucTuc away from the center, thats why it is so low priced.
Review 33:Booking.com didn't sent them or me a conformation mail. But they gave us the room for the lower price. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Review 34:Location for us was too far out, it was slightly difficult to find our way to the centre
Review 35:Staff tried hard to make us happy (despite poor english), the whole place was clean, air-con, fridge and balcony made up for location, good breakfast and overall good value for money
Review 36:Be sure to have the location mapped out as this hotel is located in a quiet residential block area among a street of sleepy Laos mom & pop stores. If I had to make one suggestion on the next improvement needed to attract more clients to this establishment it would be a bit more attention to detail in the room cleaning department, but overall a very good experience!
Review 37:After reading past reviews and experiencing a couple of night stays here, I would have to conclude that they are trying very hard to improve. Location is a short 5 minute walk to Patuxai Gate Mounument and the heart of the government center. Our room had a dedicated internet router in it and internet was lightning fast and extremely reliable. Front desk staff were very friendly and accommodating and spoke enough "friendly" English to help us out with inquiries multiple times. Breakfast was beyond adequate with a huge assortment of choices ranging from eggs, fried rice, veggies, breads and a noodle soup station followed by an entire banquette table full of fruits and deserts. Great value for your money and lots of smiling helpful faces!
Review 38:A bit far from thai embassy, not enough clear rooms
Review 39:Friendly stuff, a little bit far from thai embassy, but for us it wasn t a problem, cause we like to wolk, and the way from hotel to embassy goes through some interesting places. Breakfast was poor, but enough to kill yoour morning hunger). Room s small but if you re not going to be inside for all your time, there s nothing to complain. Good choise for 1-2 nights
Review 40:it said 120k kip so i went for it. arriving there, the staff somehow informed that they have to charge me more because they have to pay booking.com a fee. they wanted more than double of the original price, haha. desk personel didnt speak english at all, very unproffesional. i know they dont earn much but still... the location is way out of centre. went for a hotel around the corner with very friendly staff, for 100kkip..
Review 41:nothing
Review 42:Breakfast buffet was very basic. We found the mattresses very hard which might appeal to other people than us. Location isn't great, it is quite far from the main tourist area (good 20/25mn walk). It's made even more evident considering that all tuk-tuk drivers charge you over the top fares. I took cheaper taxi rides in Australia!!
Review 43:This place is OK for a one night stay. It is very clean and the staff was friendly.
Review 44:Unable to pay be credit card as the machine was out of paper for 2 days. (weekend)
Review 45:Good size room and selection at breakfast. The hotel is north of the main centre but makes for a pleasant walk with things to see a long the way.
Review 46:Sink was not cleaned, garbage bin was not emptied, staff cannot speak English and are not friendly. They charged my credit card, but I wanted to pay cash. Night guard was sleeping at the front door. Wifi was bad and our room smelled like sewer.
Review 47:It looks like a new and clean hotel, but...
Review 48:The lack of English spoken by staff but that is to be expected in a foreign country. The location is a bit of a walk to the main tourist area. They seemed to give up on some of the breakfast items after nine o'clock.
Review 49:Was clean, comfortable and presentable.
Review 50:The Wifi was somewhat unreliable at level 6 on most days, although it was much better at ground level. Facilities in room were slightly inadequate. It would be better if equipped with a safe, and better toiletry.
Review 51:Staff were rather friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious, clean and rather good. It is good value for money. The breakfast was adequate and good.
Review 52:Very dirty - rooms, common areas, restaurant. You could smell smoke in the rooms. I suspect people were smoking in the lobby or hallways. Beds were very uncomfortable. The springs poked through. We got an extra quilt to sleep on top of but it was still bad. Towels weren't even clean. Remote control was covered in something like gel! It's too far from town to walk and the tuk tuk drivers seemed to charge way too much. Do not stay here.
Review 53:Breakfast was ok.
Review 54:One wifi router per a giant hallway... come on guys, there should be three per floor for that place. It was important to me because I booked that place expecting good internet to talk to my kids on Christmas.
Review 55:The door men were kind of funny in a good way and the dinning room looked like it was ready for wedding.
Review 56:Receptionists know little and No English which was frustrating. A bit far from city, you have to take taxi to get around, take that into account when you checking for rates. Toilet was locked out and night shift reception took a while to come and cannot communicate in English so we have to tell him our room number over and over again.
Review 57:New ish hotel. Facilities are still new. Rates are cheap only good for overnight or transiting.
Review 58:Poor quality reakfast. More catering for locals than for foreigners although the guests were more from abroad.
Review 59:This hotel must be very new. Everything seems to be still nice, including mthe towels adn sheets.
Review 60:It's in the middle of nowhere. You need a taxi to do anything. I mean anything. Everything closes down at dark except maybe some very cheap lao food.
Review 61:Very good room. Nice foyer. Staff was OK but couldn't handle two requests: 1. another small bottle of water (extra charge) and 2. a map
Review 62:The wifi only worked in the foyer. The included breakfast was good, with more customers they could afford to make it better. They need a business card with their address in Lao and a map and a picture - the tuk-tuk drivers get lost easily and that can become expensive to find you way home.
Review 63:The staff were wonderful, very helpful and had quite good English skills. The rooms were big and clean, the bedding was comfortable. If travelling around Vientiane, get the receptionist to book a tuk-tuk, it is far cheaper than hailing one off the street. They also give good exchange rates at the desk, so no need to try hunting for bargains in the town.
Review 64:Location is too far from food places. Only places near are small and for locals which is fine except most close really early. It's about a 20 min walk to the Centre. Wi-fi was terrible wouldn't connect most of the time we were there and the only explanation was that it was slow. Not many staff spoke any English which made it hard. Nothing in the way of tourist help, no maps, not much advice
Review 65:Was a good place to recuperate. Breakfast was really good.
Review 66:Lots of flies in the dining room and hall area. Understandably it is very difficult to not have them in that climate. Staff struggled to speak English and were not able to provide advice on things to do or see in Vientiane. Even asking for a place to eat dinner was problematic. The location of the hotel is not very close to the main bar/restaurant area so be wary of tuk tucks charging too much to the hotel.
Review 67:Back packing for 5 month my friend and myself wanted a few nights of a hotel room having spent most of our time in dorm rooms in hostels. The room was a good size with a good shower and clean bedding, air con and a TV in the room. Breakfast is also provided.
Review 68:Breakfast was not that great A little bit far from everything so need good walking legs to get everywhere or pay a lot on tuk tuk or can fares.
Review 69:Friendly staff that always was willing to help you. Great new 32" flatscreen
Review 70:Little bit far from good eateries and pubs. Though the Korean restaurant close by was nice.
Review 71:Nice hotel, new facilities. The location is Ok, though taxi drivers may experience difficulties finding the hotel. All in all, that was a good experience.
Review 72:Bit far from centre of town and some taxi drivers did not know where it was.
Review 73:Very good value for money. Clean and comfortable, staff overall very friendly although not all able to speak English. Good eating places nearby.
Review 74:The wifi is pants but then all of Laos' internet is rubbish. The entire country is on a slow link so it's great for what's available.
Review 75:Nice and clean hotel, transcends traditional Laos style and Western comforts. Really not difficult to get into town; even walking (although if it's hot don't try it).
Review 76:The matresses are very hard and not good for backs... The ladies behind the breakfast buffet seemed very bored about their guests. If you tell them to fill up empty plates they do it in a very slow way... The tea and coffee for breakfast. They should have some black tea also not only ready-to-drink green tea which was very bitter. The hot water kettle in the room needs some teabags or instant coffee in companion.
Review 77:Nice room devided in sleeping and living area, fridge and very silent AC! The hot water kettle in the room needs some teabags or instant coffee in companion. Some shops for all you need are very close. The breakfast buffet was nice, lots of vegetables, rice and noodles and some fruits.
Review 78:a little difficult to find our way to the centre of town at first, but once we knew the way was ok to walk and took around 20 mins
Review 79:clean, fairly modern, good price
Review 80:Wifi was terrible Breakfast a bit poor A bit far from the river
Review 81:Nice and clean hotel. Friendly staff. Quiet area and surroundings. very good value for money
Review 82:Male staff positively lazy & could'nt care less. Definitely customer service work was beneath them. So we moved hotel. Female Staff quite positive, pleasant & helpful.
Review 83:New building. For Vientiane new, clean & good value.
Review 84:Staff not really speak English but they tried everything they good so it is no problem, Wi-fi is not really working you have 2 stations near reception. It is like 2 km form center. 20 minutes of walk. Breakfast was good plenty of fruits.
Review 85:A little bit far from the center. And there's no wifi in the room at all, it's slow even in the lobby or the corridor.
Review 86:New, clean and tidy, friendly staff.
Review 87:Breakfast is poor. There should be improved. And this is included the staffs at the breakfast room too.
Review 88:Very nice and clean room included all area of the hotel. The front desk staffs are friendly and helpful.
Review 89:No English spoken (not major issue), breakfast service was poor despite asking for pepper and napkins three times none came.
Review 90:Location only 250 metres from Putaxe monument, room quality, cleanliness.
Review 91:About a 20 - 30 min walk from the Main Street. WiFi was a bit hit and miss
Review 92:Very nice hotel, clean, comfortable, personal balcony off the room with great views.
Review 93:Until I complained, there was smoke in the hallways that was intense. A group of single men travelers had the habit of sitting in their open doorways and chatting with each other, during the daytime, and smoking while doing so There was no sign about smoking or non-smoking in my room and when I first walked in it was very clear that someone had smoked in the room. I spoke at length with the manager about making a clear policy for smoking and non-smoking rooms and areas of the hotel, or losing a lot of farong business. I booked under a 70% discount rate since they are just opening up the hotel so the value I enjoyed may not last.
Review 94:Brand-new four-star hotel. Well done and very spiffy. Breakfast ample and pretty good
Review 95:Bit too far from major sights. Breakfast horrible. Wifi poor.
Review 96:Clean decent room for the price. Comfy bed. Good size room. Hotel responded quickly to emails.
Review 97:LOCATION only a couple of restaurants within 3 blocks.
Review 98:The facilities, balcony, excellent breakfast buffet, staff friendly always tried to help but English is poor unless the manager is there.
Review 99:Room was down the end of the hall, wifi was terrible. Location was much too far from the main tourist area, especially when we like to walk everywhere this felt a bit unnerving at nighttime. Staff had very very basic English. They didn't even understand some common hotel-related questions. Breakfast was until 10...930 one morning most is gone. Nothing is replenished...bean sprouts all brown and sad, no one was stood by the noodle/broth bit so with the minimal choice I struggled to figure out which I was supposed to use. (Until a lady appeared and un smilingly helped me) Eggs were super greasy. Really I would just say not to stay here as it is much too far away, is so average and you can get the same or better closer to town. It's also so new that the tuk tuk driver didn't know where it was.
Review 100:Hotel very new, room was barely used, nice and clean. Nice fluffy new towels. Fairly quiet room. It's so new that the tuk tuk drivers don't know where it is but you can get a card from reception which has the small map and location on it.
Review 101:staff werent unfreindly but never said hello or just walk past pretending not to hear. We got charged more for the than what it said outside on the sign. Breakfast was dissapointing coffee cold as there is no power point foe the machine to keep it on food was all cold and when at 8am we as for some butter for toast as there was nothing else they didnt have any. Ants in room everywhere and it too far from town dont normaly complain but moved to another hotel that was more value foe money
Review 102:rooms were new and clean, with good beds
Review 103:The location was a bit far from things
Review 104:This place was totally average - nice enough to stay for a night but not anything fancy. Everything was fine though.. Really no complaints.
Review 105:Not many staff speaking english (but friendly trying to help you). Breakfast with no good black coffee. Slow and not reliable wifi. Not very central.
Review 106:All brand new, clean. Very friendly staff. Silent room with balcony and friedge. Great hot shower. Good breakfast even for vegans (very rare) there are fruits and rice or rice noodle, tomato, cucumber, jam and vegetable butter. Very good laundry service (15000kip/kg) to wash, dry and fold (smelling so good).
Review 107:the wifi service is very slow. staff has minimal english which didnt understand what i wanted.
Review 108:i like the cleanliness of the hotel.
Review 109:I think the mattres need to be replaced with the new one. It's too hard, uncomfortable to sleep on.
Review 110:Close to the city center
Review 111:At best a average hotel for expensive prices .breakfast was poor and not very clean we booked 3 days no refund and left after the first night !
Review 112:Bad wifi connection.
Review 113:Very clean and beautiful hotel. Staff very nice.
Review 114:Value for money
Review 115:Property somewhat outside city center.
Review 116:Very helpful personnel provided assistance before and during stay. Room with balcony, very good standard.
Review 117:staff never smiled! And breakfast all eaten before 9am when it was open until 10 am so when we get there............ bugger all
Review 118:location and comfort
Review 119:Bed was a bit hard.
Review 120:Clean hotel with good wifi and good TV channels.
Review 121:the breakfast time is from 6.30 to 8.00.,too early.
Review 122:the staff, breakfast are good.position is near square, and mekong river.
Review 123:A little further from main area than we'd have liked but only a 20 minute walk from the river
Review 124:Very clean and quiet
Review 125:it is so far from the city center. so far.
Review 126:it has the hall with airconditioner. so i took a rest in hall. it is very good and nice breakfast.
Review 127:Nothing
Review 128:Everything
Review 129:It's a little bit far if you want to go to Mekong river
Review 130:The room is clean and tidy with balcony
Review 131:They tried to charge me twice.
Review 132:The WiFi was half of the time not working!
Review 133:The absolute friendly and helpful staff at the reception!
Review 134:Friendly Staff
Review 135:breakfast included in price
Review 136:hard to find transportation ....
Review 137:nice new place
