Reviews for Castillos Del Mar
Review 1:This place has so much potential. Needs some TLC. Unfortunately, current ownership does not maintain building, furniture, fixtures, or staff. Windows were dirty, bed linens were not fresh(sheets were not clean). $20.00 key deposit?
Review 2:Océan view, hot water, working toilet and did I say ocean view.
Review 3:You had to ask for towels, heater, coffee, etc. The stuff that was supposed to come with the room.
Review 4:The location and the view. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 5:Everything else as listed below:- Very expensive for Mexico. Very difficult to find in the dark because sign not illuminated. No indication of where reception office was. Staff surly and disinterested and would rather be watching TV. NO water in toilet tank so could not flush. No soap. No toilet paper. No shampoo. No bottled water. Had to manipulate black rubber valve in tank each time to flush toilet. Staff told us that the restaurant was down many stairs. Restaurant a joke. Only helpful person was probably the cook. Items shown on menu not available. Tried to charge us more than the menu prices. No Wifi except poor reception in bar. Advertizes breakfast but all locked up with no staff in sight at 7.30 am.
Review 6:Very little, nice view of sea in morning
Review 7:The WiFi in the lobby didn't work for me.
Review 8:The view was beautiful, both from the room and from the restaurant/bar. The beach was quiet and easily accessible. The staff was very warm and helpful.
Review 9:My only piece of advice is to be willing to take it as it is. They're in the middle of doing a lot of renovation but the staff and the view and the comfortability of this little boutique hotel is worth not having a five star room Decour.
Review 10:The view is breathtaking and the staff was extremely helpful. My boyfriend and I were on our first excursion into Mexico driving over the border and staying at this hotel made our trip that much more memorable.
Review 11:The only thing was the lack of change at the bar/restaurant. Staff was great.
Review 12:I really liked the view and Beautiful beach along with the fireplace in my room. The wall heater didn't work but the had a space heater for me to use. I had firewood and I loved the fireplace. No problem with check-in or while leaving. My stay was for 3 days.
Review 13:Pool was pretty dirty. There is very limited hot water. We only had hot water one of the three days. It would be nice if they extended the wifi to the rooms. Mostly little things that the views make up for.
Review 14:There are fantastic views from the rooms and balconies. The staff was really nice. Great value for the price.
Review 15:Not for someone expecting a resort experience. Not for someone looking to stay "connected" on line. Wi-fi only available in lobby. Limited beach access. Restaurant and bar on site, but anything else you have to drive to.
Review 16:All rooms have ocean view. This is a place to escape, relax and be worry free.
Review 17:I understand that it wasn't directly your fault but we were without t.v. our entire stay (the cable for some reason wasn't working). To me that was a big deal. I would have liked to been offered a small compensation, such as a meal or perhaps a small refund on our bill. But other than that it was an enjoyable stay.
Review 18:The staff was friendly & courteous. The view from our room was beautiful & spectacular.
Review 19:The no air condition part, not so nice about it. The fact that I arrived 5 minutes after 11 pm and nobody was there to check in other than the security guard, which by the way, great customer service from the gentleman
Review 20:I like a lot how the decor and details in the room were so well thought.
Review 21:Could be noisy as the hotel is older and walls / floors not soundproof. But it was not unexpected in this older place.
Review 22:Beautiful beaches, scenery and old spanishish theme hotel. Great staff. Comfortable beds and pillows.
Review 23:Upstairs unit in very poor condition, unclean sheets, rug, as well as large & small holes in rug, dirty & old furnishings.
Review 24:Oceanview balcony, Bathroom
Review 25:Facility is old and in poor condition. I had ants in the bathroom and plumbing fixtures were in poor condition, curtains were old and dingy. The Hotel hosted Wedding parties both nights I stayed there. The Parties were very loud and went on to about 1:00am. Because of the nose I was unable to sleep. The Bed was poor with old linens that didn't fit the bed. There is no air conditioning. The TV was small and didn't work properly. The room door was not very strong and had no dead bolt or chain. The room was supposed to have a fireplace but had none. Noise from the roadway was also noticeable in the room. WIFI didn't work most of the time and was very slow when it did. The three star rating was not appropriate.
Review 26:Ocean view was great
Review 27:The room was not vacuum, the tables were dirty, the lounge chair was broken, there were dirty plates outside the room. Since I was bringing my 85 yr, I has requested a room with double beds, they did not seem to have seen or review my reservation. I did pay the extra for the 3rd person which I was ok with.
Review 28:Access to the beach. Friendly staff. Great view of the ocean. I would recomend it for the view.
Review 29:Nothing
Review 30:We initially reserved two suites but we're offered the penthouse when we arrived for only $11 more and we took it the view was amazing with 3private balconies it It was breathtaking from every view. Furniture could have been updated but if anything it adds to the rustic feel of the place. Staff was great and friendly, over all we where very pleased and we will be returning and getting that same room. This is becoming our new tradition.
Review 31:ALERT: The room I was in had smelly old carpet with full of holes in it. The room had NO colonial style furniture, as you would have expected. In fact, there was no ornamentation or decoration in the room what so ever, the furniture that were there all were worn out piece of junks. Don't expect to find a hot shower but warm at best of the times. It appeared to me that the security set-up for internet / Wi-Fi was not correctly configured, as I was never able to establish internet connection in either Lobby or Restaurant as it was promised. The hotel charges tax for both food and rooms but strangely they refuse to provide receipt to customers. When I insisted that I need receipts, they just handed me a piece of paper with no hotel information on it!
Review 32:Only good thing about this hotel is its location with private beach and rustic, Colonial-style looking property.
Review 33:The three days we stayed the first day the water hardly warmed up in the shower ,next day was hot and 3rd day was warm. Also if you have a low vehicle it may be difficult getting in and out of the place. The drive way is a small incline of dirt gravel and square cement paving type stones, lots of dips and bumps. Also we didn't use the pool since the ocean is right there but it is located in the parking lot which was odd to us.
Review 34:The view was great. The food coming from the kitchen smelled so good when we would pass by it down the hallway but we never ate there. There was hardly anyone there when we stayed so it was nice n quiet.
Review 35:When we got to the hotel they didn't have our reservation. It seems booking.com did not send the information to the hotel for us and 4 other families before us. That's was inconvenient but the staff quickly rectified the mix up and got us a room.
Review 36:I loved the view from our room and the easy acces to the beach, literally down a flight of stairs. The staff was very friendly and always accessible.
Review 37:The furniture was a little worn out.
Review 38:The view from my room balcony was so beautiful and at night the waves were very relaxing. I also liked that it was family oriented. I definitely would like to stay there on my next get away. :)
Review 39:The night bartender in the front office. He is very slow and never has change. Also not very friendly.
Review 40:The new resturant and bar.
Review 41:Staff not that helpful
Review 42:Location
Review 43:Was very close to private beach quiet and rustic feel to rooms
Review 44:Very out dated.
Review 45:The view was amazing and we had access to a private beach.
Review 46:The was an event.we didn't have assest to the beach or parking inthe hotel so we only stayed one night
Review 47:No air conditioning. No wifi.
Review 48:The place is right at the beach. The view from my room.
Review 49:No air conditioning. No screen so we had to keep the balcony door closed all the time.
Review 50:We liked the view from our room. We liked the price.
Review 51:Great staff, fantastic location.
Review 52:Price, location, access to beach, clean beds, good food. Very nice and respectful security staff. Felt safe!!!!
Review 53:Had a Mexican look to the building. Private beach. Clean Swimming Pool Friendly staff Has good close by amenities
Review 54:Parking
Review 55:The view and beach
Review 56:Loud construction near beach was annoying.
Review 57:We had the beach all to ourselves.
Review 58:Anything, everything was runned down
Review 59:View was GREAT
Review 60:Everything
Review 61:View
Review 62:Outdated. Rooms could have been a bit nicer and cleaner. Old towel in the shower and an old cup in the freezer. We really didn't mind cause the wife and I are not pretentious. We are clean but it was minor compared to the overall picture.
Review 63:On the beach. Close to puerto Nuevo. Has a bar, but limited liquor. Security. Great staff. Ocean view room.
Review 64:I would say the water in shower it did not have super hot water ... It was worm but no hot.
Review 65:The bed sheets were very clean. The pool was O.k ... We ate in the restaurant it was good. The best part was the view it was beautiful ! Waking up to it.
Review 66:The service needs improvement. By phone, I was put on hold for a long time to the point that I hung up and used e-mail instead. When we arrived, the security guard treated us with suspicion and then the receptionist acted as if we were a bother. He told me, "Why do you come all at once." We were the only ones there. Even the other service staff would hardly look us in the eye and they never smiled. I would have liked to have felt more welcome.
Review 67:The bed is of high quality, the view is great, the price is reasonable, and it is very close to Rosarito. They told us it was 5 minutes, but it was really only like 2 minutes. Really beautiful place.
Review 68:That I didn't know about this place before
Review 69:Great views from rooms the staff was great for a small hotel. This is not a resort hotel it is a little older and not modern but is very quiet. Very relaxing and the drinks at the bar are excellent.
Review 70:I don't know where to start... Even if your a couple of minutes late for your check in, they book other guest right away! I have been late to check ins and I have never had issues with that until I visited Castillos del Mar! Though the staff are very friendly, they give false information! My check out was at 12pm on a Monday but I wanted to beat traffic early so I day before I asked the front desk receptionist that if it's possible for me to check out earlier than what I was expected to check out! I wanted to check out at 3am and she told me it was fine! There was always some one in the front desk! WRONG!! I went to drop off the key, the remotes, and get my deposit! And for my surprise, the office and everything around it was CLOSE!! Now how would some one give false information knowing it's an important matter!? So I wasn't not going to wait or bother others with my issues so I decided to leave the items with security and told them to kept the deposit! Would I stay hear next time!? I highly doubt it
Review 71:This location has a beautiful view of the ocean! You can leave the patio door open has you sleep and hear the waves and feel that breeze. Once you step out from your room, walk down the stairs, and your right on the beach. The staff are pretty friendly. Castillos del Mar is in between Puerto Nuevo and Rosarito's downtown! Overall, it's a great place for a one night stay
Review 72:The grounds are beautiful and the private beaches are a bonus. I loved the decor in the room and the feel of this place. Definitely recommend for a couple looking for a quiet and romantic time together.
Review 73:The jacuzzi wasn't working, and the restaurant wasn't as cheap as I expected for Mexico.
Review 74:I loved the authentic Mexican decor and fireplace in the room, spectacular ocean views off the balcony, two private beaches, and VERY comfortable beds and a good shower! Plus there were some English TV channels which was nice for being south of the border.
Review 75:I wish I would have know about the hotel sooner. Great place.
Review 76:Hotel was peacefully quite. Great location for relaxation. All the rooms are overlooking the beach.
Review 77:unfortunately it was very bad experience. The location was nice and attractive, however the hotel was so so cold in night and freezing. we stayed up all night awake and shaking me and my wife. The TV was not working, neither the WiFi. The staff were very nice and kind and helpful. But the place for sure needs immediate intention , specially regarding the cold issue at night.
Review 78:the view is great, wonderful, and the staff are very nice, friendly and genuine.
Review 79:Jacuzzi wasn't heated. But that's a minor issue.
Review 80:It was an older hotel. But it had some character too it. Awesome views and the beaches where great. Can't wait to book my next stay there.
Review 81:EVERYTHING. The receptionist was horribly rude and unhelpful. They had no warm water to take shower after 9 p.m every night. The entrance is horrible, my car hit the ground every time. Cleaning staff are so careless, they opened the door while we were sleeping and they kind of heard us that we are maing noises but still opened the damn door. They got rid of their mini fridg. Who the F does that??? We Bought some stuff to eat and drink there but we had to get a cooler because they said oh sorry we don't have fridge any more!!! Instead they purchased new LCD recently!!! That's Horrible in my opinion. I loved this place the first time i went there and that's why I wanted to give it another shot, but man that was such a disaster!!! Do NOT go there!!
Review 82:The only and only good thing about this hotel was the view and the fact that you can open your back door and you can enjoy the beach. There is only one guy that is a bit older and he is a bar tender and fluent in English, he is friendly and helpful.
Review 83:Room was dusty. Carpet old and stained. Matress was ripped. Door knob ofsliding door was broken and had to ask for it to be repaired to opendoor. Room had a bad odor and had to ask for something to be sprayed butdidnt help I was told that room always smells and others havecomplained. All was old. Had small fridge that didnt work. Had a coffeemaker that looked had not been washed in months. No iron. No wifi unlesswe were in the lobby. Very disapointed for $100 a night we paid. Nocoffee,no continental breakfast. We asked for coffee in lobby and ittook 1 hour to get it. This was very dirty and old hotel.
Review 84:The view and private beach was only thing we enjoyed.
Review 85:The worse experience ever, the marketing done for this hotel isabsolutely a lie. Once you arrive to the hotel your expectations of whatyou thought you were booking fall to nothing. My suite booking waschanged to a double bed nightmare of a room, their excuse was that theyhad ectrical problems in my suite therefore they had to switch my room, they overcharged me didn't reduce my suite price or anything. I wasplanning on staying two nights but I immediately left the next morning.A complete getaway nightmare of a stay at Castillos del Mar Hotel.
Review 86:I did not like that wifi was not included in the rooms, but not a big problem.
Review 87:The food in the restaurant was delicious, customer service was genuine and not just looking for a tip.
Review 88:The facility needs to be upgraded the linens need to be in a better quality the overall furniture needs to be updated. it's expensive for what you get within the room
Review 89:The view
Review 90:When it's not warm out, the rooms are very cold. Only one tap (hot, thank goodness) worked in the sink and shower. Towels were old. If you're on the ground floor, plan on getting up early because the walls and ceilings are thin and you can hear EVERYONE.
Review 91:Victor, the bartender/front desk/waiter was awesome. Really friendly, great margaritas. Entire staff was very friendly. Every room has a great ocean view. Location is about 5 minutes cab ($2.50) outside the city, so you don't get the party noise.
Review 92:Needs to be updated, should not have ripped furniture, sliding door should open easily, tv to small for room and outdated, so is the parking spaces, dirty with broken fixtures. I would re commend only if it has been fixed.
Review 93:The view of the ocean, bed very clean, staff friendly
Review 94:Rooms need some updating. No wood available for fireplace...bring your own.
Review 95:Small hotel with beautiful view of Rosarito coast. Fireplace in room very nice.
Review 96:Front desk needs to be a little more customer service oriented, specially with existing guests. They put guests on the room above us about midnight they were loud and woke up our kids, front desk could of given them a different room knowing that we had children and were already asleep!
Review 97:Food was great!
Review 98:It gets cold at nights with no heater except for the fireplace, and if you want to use that you need to bring materials to start and maintain. If the hotel is not full they will not run the hot tub. You need to drive or cab if you want to go to the clubs in rosarito.
Review 99:Great spot on the cliff with an amazing view. Short easy drive from the border. Wifi available in the lobby, which is the bar.
Review 100:No hot water for a shower the first night...had to take a cold one... Jacuzzi was not on/hot - something we were looking forward to....no kindling or way to cut wood that was provided into smaller sticks.... Just newspaper... also, guy who checked us in was cool until he was our bartender the next night.. He seemed impatient and was rude. He also charged us more for the same 4 drinks that we got the night before (from a diff bartender)...
Review 101:The views and access to the private beaches are spectacular! Room had a rustic feel and a huge king size bed and fireplace. Sound of the ocean was also nice.
Review 102:run down, shower door not long enough, water running out, too much money for the room, not what was promised when I booked the junior suite. sliding door did not lock, security lock on door not working , had to use a big rock. wanted kitchenette, living room with fireplace. no such thing with my reservation. Will never stay here ever again. .
Review 103:ocean side, nice gazebo, comfortable beds
Review 104:If places like this are going to be advertised they should at least keep up the maintenance...we had a clogged bathroom sink ,that overflowed into the adjacent bedroom area,we had to lay towels to avoid falling, the sliding glass door did not open,a bed and two chair(no table) was what we got.At check in there was confusion about the rate I was quoted, there were no more rooms at the price I was given, and about an hour later an American couple walks in and by miracle there were rooms available!!!! go figure!!!
Review 105:The scenery was spectacular....it was centraly located
Review 106:The Jacuzzi was not heated and not working, the remotes for the TV not working had to keep calling for a different one.
Review 107:The room and view were very nice.
Review 108:There are no kitchenettes in any of the rooms and only one smallrefrigerator in one room. It is currently mis-advertised on thebooking.com site but they said they were in the process of takingcare of that.I noticed that the pillows had no pillow protectors, only the pillow case. There were lots of stains on the pillows under the single case that were kind of unappealing. If anything were to leak through the cases, they would embed straight into the pillow.....kind of if-y. It's a really old building that's falling apart in some places. For example, the ceiling above our shower looked like it was caving in and bubbling from water damage. It even started leaking everytime the people upstairs from us turned on the water. The water pressure was bad in the bathroom sink, maybe just a Mexican infastructure problem? There was an ant problem in bathroom and cobwebs in some places in the suite (who knows if this can be remedied with the building being so old) There was only a single wooden swinging door for our shower and sll the water from the shower ended up spraying all over the place outside the shower The drinks at the bar were expensive for the area in terms of how small they were and how weak they were. Unfortunately, we never got a good mixed drink the whole time we were in Rosarito/Ensenada. =(
Review 109:This is a fairly small motel on cliffs overlooking the ocean. There'sprivate beach access, and it was nice being able to relax on a secludedinlet and look around at the tidepools. Our first floor room wascolorfully decorated in an old Spanish style, included a workingfireplace, and we could see the ocean from our bed, which was amazing towake up to. All the staff is extremely helpful, friendly, and welcoming. They even accomodated us in another room when there was somemisinformation on the booking.com website. When we were there it seemedlike a mix of clientele; some Mexicans there for the weekend with theirkids, some there just to eat at the restaurant/drink at the bar/lay onthe beach, also a couple of Americans that seemed like they wereregulars there. All in all, always pretty quiet and relaxing (except forthe kids splashing and laughing in the pool, but of course, that'sexpected). The parking lot was guarded 24 hrs/day, so that was nice, andthere were nice shops with ceramics, metal work, and woodworking allaround the motel. The first small tamale place going north from themotel on the right hand side of the street had the best tamales I'veever had, and there was a nice pizza place just a little ways down onthe same side that had a great ambiance too.All in all it was a great motel if you're ok with a couple of things disclosed below, are not too picky, and are looking for a phenomenal location/view.
Review 110:I think you need better street signage
Review 111:The carpet in the room was a bit old, had burn marks, stains
Review 112:The location, friendliness of the staff, the margaritas
Review 113:No complaint s
Review 114:The océan view And the staff
Review 115:View, bed, fireplace
Review 116:none
Review 117:Location, food staff
Review 118:The location
Review 119:No Wifi access in the rooms only at lobby.
Review 120:Has a private beach!
Review 121:Reservation wasn't correct, no tv, pool was not working, did not have a microwave...
Review 122:I love the beauty of being on the ocean.
Review 123:The views are amazing! the staff is very nice, the sound of the waves at night is such a relaxing sound. great place, would go back again.
Review 124:Needs more staff. we waited for 30 minutes for staff to check us in.
Review 125:cozy hotel, bar needs some work. the big plus is location on the beach.
Review 126:the room was dirty, also the linen, carpet dirty.....just a mess
Review 127:the view to the qcean, that's about it
Review 128:Old installations,no cable and air conditioned as stated.
