Reviews for Old Evora Hostel

Review 1:Nothing

Review 2:It is located in the center of the old town , 10 mins walk away from busstation , we are able to check in earlier without extra fee charged, Wehave our own kitchen and it's fully equipped , the house isbeautiful and it's clean , most of the attractions are about 5 minswalk and are nearby the hostel

Review 3:Checkin process was poor. We waited outside the building, with no one one answering the phone or doorbell. Beds were terrible; couldn't move without them squeaking, and mattresses consist of a block of foam. I was quite disappointed given the reasonable reviews.

Review 4:Hostel is in a convenient location, close to the centre of town. Includes a basic breakfast.

Review 5:Double room means dorm for 4 with bunk beds but occupied by only 2 people.

Review 6:Nice interior, everything new combined with the old building in the city center, very friendly stuff, nice mood.

Review 7:The beds were hard. The wifi reception was bad in the 4 and 2 person bedrooms. No seperate toilet. So if people are showering tou can't go to the toilet.

Review 8:Nice people. Breakfast was oke and good location. The rooms are big enough and have a fan. It can be (very) hot in evora so a fan in the room is needed. They call it airco but is a ventilator.

Review 9:I didn't get hot water to shower. It turned out that they ran out of gas. Was cold that night!

Review 10:The staff is very friendly and the location is good, only 10 mins walk from the bus station.

Review 11:Nothing I can think of. Only that it was too hot in Evora in summer, but it has nothing to do with the hostel.

Review 12:The location of the hostel is only 2 minutes away from the city center.

Review 13:The internet was a bit slow in our room upstairs.

Review 14:Pedro couldn't have done more. He was the nicest, kindest and the most helpful host ever. The hostel was situated right in the centre of the historical town and was very clean and peaceful. The kitchen was fully-equipped and supermarkets were very close.

Review 15:Wifi worked just downstairs, not in a room You have to put bed sheets of your self Poor towels

Review 16:Great and kind host, Clean room, good location, Good breakfast and value of money

Review 17:Really small stairway, this could be a problem with big suitcases. Evora has exextremely narrow roads and hardly parking space next to.the hostel, which is hard to find in a really, really Narrow way (not passable with cars)

Review 18:Familiar. Nice people. Nice room.

Review 19:I loved this hostel, it's very nice and cosy. The owner is very hospitable, friendly and always smiling- makes you feel like home :) And location is perfect for sightseeing! I totally recommend this hostel :)

Review 20:The hostel is very clean and well maintained by Pedro, the owner who is super friendly and helpful! It is a cosy place to stay in, and just walking within the 200-year old building, or spending time in the balcony allows you to really soak in the history of Evora. The hostel is also 2 mins walk to the historical centre, so location wise it is fantastic! I will definitely highly recommend this place for anyone who is making a visit to Evora! (:

Review 21:We recently spent 4 nights at this hostel in the private room (shared bathroom) for 2. Pedro was very kind, generous and welcoming and went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed at the hostel and in exploring the town. We enjoyed chatting with him at night to learn more about Portugal. The hostel was super clean and the breakfast food was plentiful. Having the use of the kitchen to cook some nights was an advantage. The hostel was a 3 minute walk from Praca do Giraldo and with everything else close by we were able to explore old Evora easily. Pedro suggested two out of town excursions which we did, to beautiful Monsaraz and to the monoliths, which his sister Susannah drove us to. This is a hostel but Pedro made it feel more like a home. A great place to stay.

Review 22:The dorm is indeed a little small for 6 people. However not too much people in this hostel so it should not be a problem.

Review 23:Host is a very kind person with fluent English. The hostel is not too big and host lives in other side of building. So feel more like home. Standard breakfast. Location in the old town and can easily reach major attractions. When check in the host briefly mark the major attraction on the map which is quite helpful on my later trip.

Review 24:Excellent location. Parking no problem just outside the old walls. Friendly staff. Clean room; had to ask for towels but they were provided. Breakfast was basic, e.g. instant coffee, but there was fresh fruit and decent bread. The hostel was overall excellent value for money.

Review 25:Wifi does not reach all areas of the hostel. Feels a bit confused between a B&B and a backpackers hostel. All rooms should be dorms or all rooms should be twins/doubles.Not a lot of space in the 6 bed dorm when all the beds are occupied.

Review 26:Pedro was really helpful and lovely during my stay. Good breakfast and location. Nice terrace area.

Review 27:I totally recommend the hostel because of its position (just 30 seconds walk from one of Evora main squares), the staff which is very nice and welcomy, the rooms that are cute and clean. I would absolutely go back!

Review 28:Beds weren't the most comfortable but definitely reasonable for the price, limited bathrooms

Review 29:Very homely feel and the staff were extremely friendly, kind and helpful

Review 30:nothing bad to say:)

Review 31:Very good location close to the Center and station. Very clean and comfortable. Wonderful and helpful owner and great atmosphere makes this place fantastic!

Review 32:Nothing special, we did get a 6 bunk bed room instead of a twin, but, we were alone in it so i reckon that it doesnt matter for a one night stay!

Review 33:The hostel is very clean, tidy, cute, breakfast is good, toilets clean, mattresses cozy and sheets fresh! Pedro is also a great host!

Review 34:Difficult to pick up wifi in rooms and kitchen.

Review 35:Very friendly and helpful owner. Good breakfast and clean hostel. Some free communal food supplies and herbs/ spices in kitchen. Good heater in room.

Review 36:Pedro was incredibly helpful & accommodating as a host. Fantastic heater in 4-bed dorm room (winters are cold here!!). Would definitely stay for a return visit.

Review 37:Nothing! :)

Review 38:Pedro is a really kind person, helps in everything. Recommends restaurant, explain what to see, and even he wakes up earlier to prepare breakfast if you need to leave the place before 8 am. :) The room where I stayed was nice, not a special one, but its friendly. The location is great, everything is in walking distance. I would stay in this hostel again if i went back to Evora!

Review 39:Kitchen facilities are basic but adequate for a few days

Review 40:Excellent location right in the centre, parking available for free just outside city walls, great host who can you tell you a lot about where to go / eat etc. in Evora. Good atmosphere in hostel, great breakfast too!

Review 41:Thr weather, althought it is the driest part of Portugal, with lots of sunshine. It was raining... Next time I will go in July, or I will take my umbrella...

Review 42:Location: Very central, but quiet. I just walked 200 meters and there is a very good vegetarian restaurant. (as well as other traditional restaurants). Internet works all over the place, even in my bedroom (yes, I was alone, it was low season) Good breakfast.

Review 43:Our stay in Old Evora Hostel was nice and pleasant. It is conceniently located in the centre of the town, so it's really easy to get there. Pedro was really helpful at every stage of our stay. 100% recommended!!

Review 44:Such a wonderful and lovely place to stay! Owner is really nice and helpful and that kind of a person who makes sure you enjoy your stay in Évora and in his hostel. Really good quality-prize ratio :)

Review 45:Our host Pedro was welcoming and warm. The hostel is located right in the center of the downtown area, 10-20 minutes walking distance to all the monuments/sites. The room was very clean and the kitchen facility open for use. Our host Pedro even provided us with a map and tips of what to see in the city. This hostel is a wonderful choice for your stay. Quiet, convenient and a great value. We would come back again and recommend to friends.

Review 46:The bed isn't all that confortable and the fridge is a bit small, but quite manageable for one or two nights.

Review 47:Great location, free wifi, and free clean bed linen.

Review 48:For my purposes everything was alright!

Review 49:I stayed just for one night, so I didn`t need much, but everything was of excellent quality. The host is very attentive and can tell you many interesting facts about Évora and Portugal. By the way, I stayed in the room more expensive than I booked just because there was nobody. Breakfast included.

Review 50:This hostel is close to the town centre. The rooms are clean and it has a great kitchen. The staff are always helpful with maps, places to visit and places to eat. I would highly recommend this hostel.

Review 51:In the summer, the rooms can get really hot. There is a fan in the room, but with 38 degrees outside, it does not do much. That was the only downside to me

Review 52:Owner was really nice and helpfull Clean rooms Two nice and clean bathrooms Breakfast included Kitchen available Really cheap

Review 53:Breakfast Good wifi

Review 54:no furniture in the room, even no hooks for clothers

Review 87:Pedro is the best host. He is so kind, friendly, and helpful. You will enjoy your stay at Old Evora Hostel, it is well located within the city, very close to everything you want to see. Upon arrival Pedro will tell where everything you need and want to see is. If you aren't sure what route to Evora is best--call Pedro first, he can tell you. You are in good hands here and you will have fond memories of your stay.

Review 88:Old Evora hostel is located only 2 minutes away from the main square in the old historic centre. Pedro, the hostel manager is extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. The hostel was clean and comfortable and great value for money. Breakfast was simple but delicious with daily fresh bread and an abundance of locally grown oranges. This charming hostel gives you a taste of the old historic houses found in Evora and the friendliness of the portuguese people.

Review 89:We were curious to get to know Pedro, because everybody says the best of him - and it's all true: He is an amazing person! We loved everytinhg about this place, we really felt like home. It doesn't get any better than this... Want more? Lots of plugs in the bedroom, clean sheets, confortable beds and pillows, a great heater, lockers, a homy breakfast, an amazing location and a great price.

Review 90:I did not expect to have to sleep in a bunk bed, since that was not indicated before. It is rather a youth hostel for really young people.

Review 91:The owner is very nice and helps out with every problem.

Review 92:Bunk beds in room, which I was not aware of or happy about. Slightly shabby building and accommodation.

Review 93:Good location for exploring Evora and the heater worked wonderfully!

Review 94:It is about 400 meters from the Autobus station, in the old city. You can experience a life in a 200 years old and clean house, a special experience. There is a kitchen in the house, well equipped, small, but you can get everything you need. Shared bathroom is equipped with air conditioner. The Boss Pedro is very helpful, makes suggestion to interesting places, gives advice on touristic routes. The house is close to sightseeings in the city, half day you can finish the visiting in the city.

Review 95:The OEH - in a centrally located, traditional house of world-heritage Evora - is everything a traveller hopes for. Pedro (its travel-veteran owner) receives you in his cozy home as if you've been best friends. This warmest, friendliest host remains personally involved in your well-being and attentive to all your needs during your stay. Ideal for meeting fellow travellers, it's also an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding small towns and villages of the Alentejo (Portugal's most beautiful, unspoiled landscapes). This small size hostel is also a great and - wonderfully quiet- place to relax. I particularly liked the homey kitchen (fully equiped), its real hot showers, and the speedy wi-fi signal in my room, not to mention the warm heating during January chilly nights. I was there off-season, and found medieval, walled Evora and its nearby typical villages both stunning, very romantic, and a photographer’s paradise. In the idyllic week I spent there I always felt welcomed and part of a family. I loved the OEH's atmosphere/ energy, created by Pedro’s charming hospitality. If walking in medieval Evora felt like living in another planet, staying at Pedro’s cozy home transported me to that old world of centuries past. Thanks OEH ! I'll definitely be back! Dr. Edeet A. (Canada)

Review 96:The shower is getting cold, recommend to take in the morning.

Review 97:The owner Pedro is quite friendly and helpful, he helps all for our travel not only Evora but other places in Portugal. The room is cosy, common kitchen has everything we need. Wifi connect is slow, but not a big problem. Free parking nearby. Excellent value for money!

Review 98:The owner was really friendly and helpful, he pointed us in the right direction to find good restaurants and things to see. The location was perfect, within the old town. The hostel was really clean and tidy and the breakfast was more than enough. We also had free wi-fi and we were offered use of the owners computer if we needed it. He also let us leave our bags until 4pm and let us keep the keys so we could come and go as we wished. For the money, this hostel was perfect. Obviously, you should understand that it is a hostel, so don't expect 5 star! Would really recommend it to fellow travellers.

Review 99:Brilliant place to say, best hostel ever. Pedro knows the area well and is very helpful. You feel you immediately have a friend in Evora. We spent four nights at the hostel really enjoyed being part of Evora. If you are coming to Evora just stay with Pedro at the Old Evora Hostel, a lovely old building with everything you could want for your comfort. We would love to visit again. We would love to live there! Ann and John Adamson

Review 100:I can't remember any disadvantages, just don't forget that this is still a hostel, so don't expect the comfort of a hotel. But the rest of it completely meets the normal hostel.

Review 101:Pedro is a wonderful host - friendly, outgoing, always willing to help and advise something useful. He is very interesting to talk to and you fill like visiting the old friend. For breakfast you can take anything you want or even prepare it yourself. Location inside the old city is very good.

Review 102:Excellent host who welcomed us warmly and went out of his way to provide information and assistance during and after our stay. Great central location within easy reach of all aspects of Evora, including the bus station. Friendly and homely environment within the hostel which we appreciated very much.

Review 103:The owner is such a warm person with a big knowledge about Evora and surrandings. He is very helpful if you need some help for sure you can count on him. Hostel is small but lovely! Also clean and calm. You can cook there on your own way! It's perfect!

Review 104:The room very we stayed had only sliding door so the privacy was not so big. The sheet on the mattresses was from some strange material and it wasn´t very pleasant to sleep on it.

Review 105:Owner Pedro is that kind of Person you can listen hours. Always ready to help you. Locality is very convenient- almost in the city center. Little but nice terrace. Great breakfast. Fully equipped kitchen.

Review 106:It's a house converted into a hostel, wich means limited privacy, bunker beds in some rooms, and shared kitchen and toilettes. But if you are looking for that, you would feel like at home.

Review 107:EVERYTHING. Pedro is the nicest hotel owner i have ever come accross (and i have travelled quite a bit: 70+ countries), plus he was super accommodating, informative, caring... The hostel is basic but clean. Home breakfast included. Excellent value for money. Just book now!

Review 108:The rooms had no lock, but there were lockers though.

Review 109:Probably the cleanest hostel I stayed in. Perfect location. Good breakfast, excellent service. For that amount of money a good deal.

Review 110:A bit expensive for the equipment provided.

Review 111:Pedro was so welcoming. We really appreciate to discuss with him. Hegave us very good advice to go through Evora and to taste good wines. The hostel has good comfort, is really clean and really good situation to visit Evora.

Review 112:There can be up to around 20 beds, but only 2 bathrooms for all the guests.

Review 113:Being with Pedro was extremely recommendable, he was always ready to help and make your stay as confortable as possible (he even arranged for me to leave my motorbike in a safe place during my stay in the hostel). The hostel is nice, clean and in a very good location. Nice breakfast.

Review 114:I liked the welcoming owner of this hostel, he was happy to tell me a lot about the country. His hostel is a small and cosy one, located a short walk from the main bus station. The atmosphere was great!
