Reviews for Oslo Hostel Central
Review 1:Hotel is well located in Oslo city center, near to museums and train station. It is clean (even under remodeling), breakfast offered is good and healthy. Staff is very kind. It is my second time in this Hotel and I will be back.
Review 2:The rooms are really small and there is no place to hang you wet winter clothes
Review 3:the location is perfect: close to the city center and surrounded by nice bars and restaurants. The staff is helpful and can recommend you some places The bed was nice! There was a lot of variety in the breakfast
Review 4:There was building work underway as the hostel opens as a hotel in Feb 2016. This didn't disturb us too much though.
Review 5:The room was really clean and the breakfast was excellent. The location was great, all the main tourist attractions were within easy walking distance.
Review 6:The hostel is under renovation, seems change to the hotel, but the noisy work started at around 7:30 in the morning.
Review 7:Quite clean and the bedding is comfortable
Review 8:On the day before new year, it seems impossible to store luggage before checking in.
Review 9:The location is good and the room is very comfortable. You can get access to what you need.
Review 10:Although the Hostel was not full, I was given the upper bed bunk, as well as my roommate. It would be nice to ask if there were the option, as I would prefer to stay on the bottom. But for staying one night I did not want to spend my time changing it again when I noticed that I could. Only a shower and bathroom for all the floor, although most rooms have private ones. But with a full hostel is quite unpleasant, as shower does not have very good condition to some one to dress up.
Review 11:In the city center, in a walking distance from anywhere. Good breakfast.
Review 12:The property was very clean and close to Oslo central train station (about a 5-10 minute walk, depending on how fast you're going) and the center of town. I didn't stay long (unfortunately) because I had a flight to catch out of Oslo the next day. The staff was nice and the bedding was very comfortable. They also had heated floors in the bathroom. I didn't see one trace of dirt or bugs anywhere. I would go back anytime. The breakfast and kitchen were also great.
Review 13:Bed – really comfortable, individual lamp Bedroom – was really small, but had a sink Lockers – could fit my carry on luggage in Lift – yes & stairs Bathroom – swipe access to get in, good Breakfast – epic! Stay here alone for the included breakfast. Multi choice of cereal, breads, meats, cheeses, vegetables, fruit and yoghurt Kitchen – small but well equipped Lounge – there is a huge area downstairs which is just loads of tables, a bit like a school cafeteria, and I think a TV Computer – 2 to use Reception – 24 hours Heaters – worked well Wifi – was good Staff – friendly enough Location – in the middle of town, 10 min walk to train station, near big castle Alcohol – I think you can bring it in Washing - NA Tea/Coffee – only during breakfast It lacks a bit of character really, but it’s a good price, comfortable beds, clean and a great breakfast.
Review 14:Maybe some hot food with the breakfast?
Review 15:Very friendly staff, hostel was very clean also. The location of the hostel is ideal for anyone looking to be close to the city centre
Review 16:Shower and toilet were clean, it wasn't disgusting to come in, but the only problem was that it's not many on the floor. Sometimes was waking up in the night and had to wait until a person would leave the toilet - not so convenient :( but in general that is okay
Review 17:Nice personnel, breakfast, pleasant room (double), perfect place of accommodation. Enjoyed the possibility to leave the luggage and come back for some hot tea :)
Review 18:The windows in our bedroom had no insulation so the big room was very hard to warm up (the same with the wc). The central heating of the building was not enough so the room had a oil heater, but still it wasn´t enough.
Review 19:Staff, breakfast, size of room
Review 20:The mattress is very thin and it wasn't really comfortable and the bed makes a lot of noises when you move.
Review 21:The Hostel is really well located, it's near from the main points in the city and you can do everything just walking. Stayed three nights in the hostel with two friends in a room for a family. The bathroom has warm floor, what is very nice. In the hostel, there is a big feeding area with a communal kitchen. The staff that I had contact it was really kind.
Review 22:The price was a little high. Given the cost of the city (Oslo is very expensive) and the fact that some of the other hostels had ratings that suggested lack of cleanliness/additional costs for bed linen, it was well worth it. I definitely recommend the hostel.
Review 23:The staff was great - they gave me great recommendations with regard to things to check out in the city. I also saw the same staff on several occasions over my 3 night stay. They remembered me and would inquire as to how the activities they had recommended went. Overall - very friendly and helpful faces. The facilities were very clean. They provided bed linens and a towel with the price. Breakfast was sufficient to hold one over for the morning (hard boiled eggs, fruit, toast, yogurt, etc.). The location was perfect! I walked to most of the sites that I saw in the city. However the public transportation is also very accessible from the hostel.
Review 24:- noise from the street
Review 25:- very good location, close to the bus. - clean room, comfortable with modern design - good breakfast - very nice staff members
Review 26:No plug points near the bed. And only one wc and one shower on the floor. It's just not enough.
Review 27:Location, Free Breakfast. And a hundred times better than any Anker hostel.
Review 28:Its quite hard to find since it doesn't have any signage of OSLO HOSTEL CENTRAL. The name appears to be different from the outside.
Review 29:Location is good. Room is quite small but clean and confortable.
Review 30:The walls of the rooms are very thin I believe because we could hear the people from next door, so if you are a light sleeper I would recomend some earplugs. For me this was not a problem.
Review 31:This is a great place to stay, our flight arrived really early and we were able to do a early check in, wich was perfect since we arrived from a 9 hour flight we were very tired and the staff made everything possible to acomodate us. On check out day we had to catch a very early flight and the reception person arranged a take out breakfast. Everything was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. But the staff are incredible they exceded every one of our needs and very very helpful. The location is great just a 10 minute walk to the central station and very close to a lot of restaurants and stores.
Review 32:They don't have hangers on the showers! I'm supposed to go back to my room naked? Cmon guys you can fix that easily
Review 33:the shared rooms are quite big.
Review 34:no closet in the room (Single room) so you have to use your suitcase as a wardrobe...
Review 35:I stayed in a Single room, it was cozy, clean and warm. Breakfast is really good, much more than you can expect in hostels, a nice way to start your day.
Review 36:We booked a double room but got two singles pushed together. Neighboring rooms were a bit loud through the night.
Review 37:great value for money (breakfast included), clean, great location.
Review 38:The staff were friendly and welcoming. It is in a central location and for Norway it is quite good value as it includes a fairly extensive smorgasbord breakfast.
Review 39:It is not that I did not really like but just as matter of fact; the places gives you more like a hotel feeling than a hostel one. No friendly common lobby with several backpackers where you actually meet new people.
Review 40:Everything did work; there were no surprises even though there is always at least some tiny problems in hotels but here everything just went fine :) The bathroom was super warm; almost like a sauna; we did like it a lot.
Review 41:perfect location, well presented, warming and careful staff, great breakfast and kitchen facilities/reception area. very worth to the money value.
Review 42:This is not the hostel's fault, but a bus stop/metro stop closer to the hostel would have been nice if you have luggage. The walk is not that far but the path way had cobble stones.
Review 43:Close to the harbour and the Train station. Free locker to leave luggage after check-out.
Review 44:I stayed in a room where the curtains could not fully close. Because there are a lot of street lights, the room was quite lighted during the whole night.
Review 45:Breakfast is really good with a lot of choice.
Review 46:If you choose a hostel, sharing a room with a few strangers, you should not care about your privacy. If it is important to you I would suggest you take a hotel.
Review 47:1) The breakfast! 2) Good wifi. 3) Close to everything. 4) Usually I don't do hostels, but I saved a lot of money sleeping here.
Review 48:The windows were not well insulated, so we heard the street noise (there are construction works in the street...) and it was cold even with the heating on.
Review 49:Great location, clean room, comfortable bed. Good value for money (seen Oslo prices). We liked the floor heating in the bathroom.
Review 50:The visitor iktchen facilities and utensils were limited (ask reception if you need a bottle opener). Lacked some of the social aspects of some hostels.
Review 51:Great location, clean and quiet rooms, clean shared facilities. Nice cold buffet breakfast.
Review 52:Basic but works
Review 53:Excellent location: very close to two museums, fortress and harbour. Also short walk to the main high street and the palace! Busses go from the harbour or the high street to the Viking, Kon-Tikki and maritime museum!
Review 54:Small space between the beds. Squeaking bunk beds. Lack of toiletries.
Review 55:Very good breakfast! Nice interior and clean. Good atmosphere and helpful staff. Excellent location!
Review 56:Fabulous staff able to make us smile after a long day. Breakfast was excellent, fresh with plenty of variety and a few local favourites thrown in as well.
Review 57:The shower room doesn't have anything to hold your clean clothes or towels... I think it is not too much to ask for a few hooks...
Review 58:The breakfast is better than expected (from a hostel)
Review 59:All facilities in one, location in the center of town, cleanliness, helpfull and kind stuff, a modern kitchen to use for all, free hot water & coffee, super rich breakfast included = it was a super choice! Oslo Hostel Central is the No. when you want to stay in Oslo!
Review 60:- The bunk beds make noise with any movement - Small kitchen for too many people, but it was ok - Too little vegan food
Review 61:- Great Breakfast and included in the price! Really complete, with juice, milk, tea coffee, eggs, vegetables, toasts, butter, jam and more. - They gave us towels and bed sheet - Very pleasant rooms, hostel in general - Very good location and secure
Review 62:Would've liked some organised program. It was Halloween and nothing happened in the hostel
Review 63:Location was great, clean and lots if room in dining area, breakfast is very good
Review 64:Sterile atmosphere. But that might more about the people staying there at the time.
Review 65:Way to find and very central location. The place was super clean and it was comfortable.
Review 66:When we wanted to check-in, the credit card terminal didn't work and we were asked to wait until it gets repaired (10 minutes) or pay cash. We were not allowed to go to the room without paying, although we have left the credit card details during the booking process on booking.com. The terminal was not ready after 20 minutes, so we had to leave the bags in the luggage room, just not to waste the time waiting, and left for a walk. We checked-in late in the afternoon, after we got back to the hostel.
Review 67:The hostel had a good location, 10-15 minutes walk from the Main station. Many attractions were also on walking distance - Opera house, City Hall, Royal palace, Aker Brygge, and all the rest could be reached easily by tram, bus or metro. I stayed with my two kids in a 4-bed room which was very basic. The mattresses were not so comfortable. We had to put the sheets on the beds ourselves once we got in the room. The room was absolutely very clean. The breakfast was OK, but not so rich as described in other reviews that I read.
Review 68:The bus from airport charge a lot. Could have been better if the hotel left airport shuttles or inclueded it to the total price so we have the option to chose should the need be.
Review 69:Staff are fantastic and the facility is very clean Breakfast is nice and metro to the city is close.
Review 70:Inside the bathroom could exists something to put the clothes and towels while you take a shower. The blanket is really small and believe me I'm small.
Review 71:The hostel is very well located near from everything. It's clean and I never stay waiting for use the bathroom. The breakfast is like a lunch, really good!!! Is easy to arrive from the train station too.
Review 72:- extremely squeaky beds - Not enough plugs
Review 73:- Location - Heated bathroom floors! - Breakfast included - Super clean - Linen & towel included in price
Review 74:Has a feeling of being in a hospital, positive from this it feels clean but lacks charm.
Review 75:Very clean hostel and a great free healthy breakfast every morning.
Review 76:Great location, staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was abundant and delicious. This hostel offers great value in one of the world's most expensive cities. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for conveniently located, clean and comfortable accommodation in Oslo.
Review 77:It is a very good hostel, because of this is quite odd that they do not have anything in the bathroom to hang the towel and clothes. Please, buy some hooks!!
Review 78:Location. Staff and Breakfast.
Review 79:sometimes frequent wifi disconnection but good value for free service Maybe more variety for breakfast
Review 80:Wifi throughout the block. Breakfast alright Nice and friendly staffs Nice location few blocks away from city centre and central railstation, with a tram/bus stop around the corner!
Review 81:upper bunk beds don't have power outlets (in the 6 bed dorm) there should be at least one more shared toilet and shower in the corridor.
Review 82:great central location with very close proximity to tourist hotpots and public transportation. Fantastic breakfast and spacious clean rooms. loved how the sheets, towel and linen are given cellophane wrapped so you know its clean.
Review 83:Bedding should have been cleaner. Room door lock amiss. No hooks, etc. for towel in shower(?).
Review 84:Hearty & varied breakfast offerings. Knowledgeable & helpful staff. Practical, tasteful interiors.
Review 85:Nothing
Review 86:the staff was very friendly, Joe gave me all the information when asked what sites could go for a drink . The hotel is in great location . thanks for everything, come back for sure .
Review 87:It was an amazing and comfortable one night stay in Oslo for us. The hostel was clean and we felt really great staying for the night. Would definitely recommend this to others.
Review 88:No place to hang towels & stuff in Shower room, also no body shampoo in the shower rooms. A bit expensive and not very easy to locate.
Review 89:The ambience, the bed (incl Linen), the staff, the breakfast, everything about this place. Centrally located.
Review 90:This was one of the best hostels i have ever stayed in. While being spotlessly clean there was nothing sterile about it. The rooms were spacious and even in a 4 bed dorm there were ensuite facilities. The breakfast was hearty and fulfilling. The location was very central and the staff were helpful. The free interent in the lobby was a huge bonus for me. Being Norway it was expensive for a hostel but most things in norway are. I left very early in the morning and the kitchen prepared me a breakfast to go at no extra cost which was a nice touch i would definitely stray here again
Review 91:the room was a bit small, but cannot say any negative point
Review 92:the location: in the very city center, but still quiet. reasonable price very cleen, the breakfast was also OK
Review 93:Staff were helpful if asked but made no attempt to converse otherwise plus the almost stark decor and lack of previous traveller info / books/ shared resources made it feel like it was a little lacking in atmosphere compared to the best hostels. If you get a room facing onto the street the traffic can be a bit noisy as its on a bus route and also faces an Irish bar which has live music till late on a Saturday and Wednesday night.
Review 94:The hostel was immaculately clean. Shower quite good. The breakfast was excellent. Small but well equipped kitchen for use which saves a fortune on eating out. Handy free luggage storage.
Review 95:Very good localisation. Very easy to move anywhere I wanted, jumping from one area to another in a few minutes. Maybe a little pricey, but anyway, it was a very good place to stay.
Review 96:Very nice staff, the room was perfect, clean and with a really nice bathroom Location perfect, 5 min walking from the central train station and everything Breakfast really good with many choice Common kitchen convenient for us
Review 97:This is no fault of the hotel, but 18 months after my last visit to Oslo, the streets are STILL all being dug up downtown, lots of construction dirt and no sidewalk in some places. Very difficult to wheel your luggage.
Review 98:The location was excellent, easy walking distance from all the central places of interest. The only reason I gave it an average rating for comfort, is because the bathroom is down the hall...I guess this is one of the reasons the price is reasonable in a very expensive city.
Review 99:Very, very clean hostel. Bathrooms were great especially the underfloor heating. Staff were friendly, will give you takeaway breakfast if you have an early checkout.
Review 100:Not well insulated against noises: could hear noises from other rooms as if they were in mine. Narrow bed.
Review 101:God deal for money considering that breakfast was included.
Review 102:The room was clean but a little bit small for four people. The bathroom was clean as well but without any hangers or chairs so that there was nowhere to put your clothes etc when you are taking a shower.
Review 103:Good and new facilities, clean rooms, kind staff, and excellent breakfast! The reception was still opened after 0am when I checked in. I had made a big mistake that I hadn't returned the room card before leaving, and I didn't realize it until I'd arrived at the airport. Then I contacted the reception and the staff helped me with check-out and let me just keep the card as souvenir. Felt so sorry and so thankful to him.
Review 104:I think there is nightclub nearby hostel. Music was loud until 2 a.m.
Review 105:Breakfast. Not really close to the station but very close to the shopping street. Luggage room.
Review 106:Pleasant atmosphere, really friendly and helpful staff. Room was super clean, cosy, modern. Very well furnished for a hostel: had 2 armchairs, a table, lamp, and a sink&mirror. Great value for money. Superb location too!!
Review 107:The mens shower on the second floor doesnt have any hanger or shelf where you can put the towel or your clothes.
Review 108:The place is in the center, very close to Oslo S. Very clean. Good breakfast.
Review 109:It was in a very central location close to Akerschuss Fortress and the main shopping street, Karl Johans Gate. Very clean and practical and the free breakfasts really helped us keep down our costs.
Review 110:Thin walls, bring ear plugs! (Earplugs work! I slept well) It's very bland, keep the minimal look but maybe have local artists paint silhouettes of trees or something in the rooms? White does look nice, very clean, but absolutely everything is white, soulless. Soya milk (or a different non dairy milk substitute) at breakfast please please please! Hobs in kitchen stop working if they get too hot, without having been used for very long at all.
Review 111:Fantastic breakfast, all-you-can-eat so it saves you a lot of money, and you don't have to pay for sheets as you do in other hostels which trick you to look cheaper. Free wifi and free computers in the lobby with internet. Great rooms. Shared a bathroom with other rooms but in 5 days it was always free when I wanted it. Cooking in the kitchen saves money too.
Review 112:Expensive (but as is everything in Oslo) so it wasn't overpriced for what was offered. Zero vibe for meeting people.
Review 113:Super clean and nicely set up hostel. Huge kitchen with good facilities and great breakfast. Brilliant location.
Review 114:Bunk bed was quite noisy when you moved and the walls are quite thin but wasn't a problem for us!
Review 115:Great Location, clean and had everything my friend and I needed. Had a twin room with ensuire shower room which was really nice. Bed super comfy.
Review 116:We stayed here for 3 nights. It was a bit noisy on Sat night.
Review 117:The location is quite convenient and breakfast is good for the amount we paid. The place is very clean too.
Review 118:The wifi could be improved as it seemed to run out after a while. Otherwise nothing to complain about.
Review 119:The best hostel I've stayed at so far and the best night sleep in a while. Really great price for such good positioning in Oslo and a buffet breakfast is included in the rate which really makes it worth while! It was really clean, beds were comfortable and staff were really friendly. Also I was put in a 4 bed room with only girls which made so much difference. Also, reception is always open which is really great. :) You are also given linen and towels. If you walk up two or three blocks you can find the main street leading up to the palace with numerous shops and restaurants. Cheaper restaurants are found on the side roads. The hostel has a list of affordable but good restaurants worth considering.
Review 120:- bed is not quite comfortable
Review 121:- location, only 5 minutes walk from train station - the breakfast which exceeded hostel standard - the shared bathroom size - good security
Review 122:The common room is mainly meant for the free breakfast and during the rest of the day you won't really sit down and meet other travelers like you do in some other hostels.
Review 123:This hostel has a great free breakfast including different types of fruits and veggies, bread, eggs, cheese, meat and orange juice. The rooms where nice and quite spacious for a hostel and the ensuite bathroom was wonderful and fancy.
Review 124:Most of the dorm rooms are 4-bed which is very good. However this timeI ended up at 6-bed the experience was bad. There's not much pointin paying extra for cramped room (it was just slightly bigger than 4-bed) with bathroom as it's always occupied. Lockers were in way ofmoving people.
Review 125:Hostel is located in the very center and is short walk from centralstation. It's very clean where it matters (beds, toilets, showers).Staff is helpful and communicative.
Review 126:- The room space is not enough to put the 2 luggages, suitable for backpackers only with tall lockers
Review 127:-Location is good closed to shopping area, tram stop and small supermarket although is difficult to find from provided map
Review 128:The window didn't close properly so there was always a small, cold "wind". Because of the size of the hostel I felt more than a "number".
Review 129:Pretty close to main train station, very clean, professional and a huge breakfast buffet! Many brochures about the city at reception.
Review 130:Not bad for a hostel. One of my roommates was very anal about the light so I had to turn the lights off earlier than I would have wanted, but this has nothing to do with the hostel. So just wish you have a more tolerant room mate:) My room mate from Switzerland was a lot more tolerant than the girl from Malta.
Review 131:Our shared room has a private bathroom which was cool. I also like the breakfast.
Review 132:Rather cold in the room, conditioning doesn't work properly. No light in the shower on the 4th floor
Review 133:Kitchen for guests, good breakfast, clean room and shared toilet/bathroom, fast wifi, friendly staff, quick check-in.
Review 134:First room someone had taken my bed, the second room the lock on the lockers was broken, and third room was good, but the beds are cheap metal, so every time someone rolls over you hear everything and it creaks really loud.
Review 135:The guy at the front desk was great in trying to accommodate me and the price was amazing.
The Fine Print
Please note that only guests staying at the hostel have access to the rooms. Visitors are only permitted in public areas such as the communal lounge or kitchen.Early check-in is not possible at Oslo Hostel Central. Luggage storage is offered upon arrival and departure days.
