Reviews for Citybox Oslo
Review 1:Had some trouble operating the windows. Got it working in the end though. Wifi signal in-room was occasionally poor.
Review 2:Stylish interior (IKEA-style) and simple rooms (perhaps a little on the small side). Liked the automated check-in which was easy to use. Very close to the central train station and shops. Free Wifi speeds were suitable for web browsing and emails. Would definitely stay again.
Review 3:Room was a little small but fine when you consider how cheap it was. There were very few staff around.
Review 4:The price was great and it had all the amenities you'd want. The underfloor heating in the bathroom was amazing!!! The location is also really central.
Review 5:We didn't see an employee the entire time we were there which was unusual but totally fine.
Review 6:The room was nice enough and the location was very easy to find and walking distance from the train.
Review 7:The restaurant staff were very unorganized and the food wasn't very good.
Review 8:Liked the hotel itself but would have liked to seen at least one person who worked there.
Review 9:Great location, great room, everything you need in the heart of the city. 5 minute walk from central station. Not exactly luxurious but certainly a good level of comfort and outstanding in terms of value.
Review 10:No bad experiences, except to say that that restaurant/cafe they suggest for breakfast is a total rip off. But that isn't the hotel.
Review 11:Excellent location, easy check in and out and a brilliant no fuss room which was better than we excepted.
Review 12:Hotel was in an excellent location (2 minute walk from central station). Hotel was clean with comfy beds. Automated check in was quick and easy. Hotel is perfect for a city weekend break.
Review 13:The room has climate control and we were slightly cold sometimes. If we could adjust the temperature, the room would have been totally perfect!
Review 14:The hotel is close to the station and in between the centrum, major musea and the national opera. Good location for this price and the rooms are very nice.
Review 15:Wonder if the pared-back staffing system reduced some level of security, but this didn't necessarily affect us. Only negative is winter in Oslo is quite dirty (muddy snow slush in the streets) and this gets everywhere. Would be good if there were more ways to control this.
Review 16:It is a very smart and efficient setup. Electronic check in was easy and they make it clear that their pared-back system allows them to pass savings on to the user. The place was very scandi-modern and presented well. Perfect blend between youth-hostel and business hotel, and yet as a family travelling we did not feel out of place.
Review 17:Room central heating wasn't working when we arrived however the staff were very helpful in trying to rectify the problem.
Review 18:Location and simplicity of what Citybox offers
Review 19:Its not a hotel,no hairdryer, kitchen means equipment and utensils and pot or frying pan which you can use to prepare something.for every coffee what you want you need to go in lobby that can be 1 or 5 floors drive with elevator. They are advertising on displays that they don't clean on daily base rooms because that price would be low and saving the enviroment!!!!!! For the name of God,that somebody charge me for this room 10€more per day and gave us cleaning and hairdryer it would be much better. No TV, no shelves in a room so you will keep clothes in suitcase, no shelves in bathroom, no wardrobe and its written even 3stars. Shame for hotel, city and country which promote high standard!!!!
Review 20:Location
Review 21:no TV - auto machine checkin didn't work for me but was sorted if you can get in through second door and turn right !
Review 22:Central location - modern new clean room with heating bathroom floor - comfy bed. Very helpful guy behind automatic reception when things didn't work on checkin
Review 23:If you are noisy and just talk normally, or a little bit load, at 10 a clock the neighbours will just knock...
Review 24:It was only 2 minutes waking for the center of the town. Very easy to take a walk and just see all the city. Modern.
Review 25:The elevetor on the 7th floor was broken and it kept making a constant beep noise that did not allowed me to sleep during the night as my room was the cloesest to the elevator. Although, I was upgraded to a larger room upon making a complaint.
Review 26:I liked the friendliness of 24 staff that is located at the office next to the main enterance on your right. Eventhough the hotel is self-service and you check-in and out alone for any assisstence someone is readily available.
Review 27:Dont go here if you expect a personal, cosy approach. The automatic service felt a bit like the hotel was a overnight storage unit rather than a luxurious experience. But in the end that is not what you pay for.
Review 28:We arrived late in the evening, so the full automatic checkin was very convenient for us. Rather small but clean and fresh room. Absolutely great location in the heart of Oslo
Review 29:they dont clean the room unless you stay more then three nights, The door locking system
Review 30:location is good and staff are helpful, All the major sights are really clos by
Review 31:It could be good to be welcomed by someone (a machine to check in, convenient but impersonal) / The neighbourhood can be gloomy at night (red light district)
Review 32:Brand new, convenient, and with everything you need.
Review 33:Excellent location in the heart of Oslo. No frills but you don't miss them at all! It's the perfect hotel if you're after somewhere to crash and shower after a day of exploring. Admittedly a little expensive by British standards but for Oslo it's a bargain!!
Review 34:My only bug bare is that due to the small bathrooms when youre showering it gets the toilet area wet. Just need a shower mat or some kind of cover at the bottom to stop that
Review 35:Superb location, 10 mins from bus terminal where the airport bus drops you and the street next to Karl Johans Gate. Very clean, modern rooms. Comfy beds and great value for money. I would recommend a room on the top floor, courtyard facing as theres some roadworks outside at the front and on the 6th floor it was really quiet. Theres also a great coffee place called stockfleths, left outside the main door at the end of the road, worth a visit for breakfast!
Review 36:Very good location. Place was clean, beds were very comfortable. There was plenty of space downstairs where you could watch TV, enjoy food etc outside your room. I think that hotel should get some better deals with the restaurant downstairs, food was absolutely amazing there, and it'd be great if they did something like breakfast included.
Review 37:The wifi in our bedroom was terrible it kept turning on and then off immedietly but there is very strong wifi in the communal area downstairs.
Review 38:The location is perfect! so close to everthing! it has a really young hostel type vibe with a communal tv and kitchenette area which we really enjoyed since eating out was so expensive.
Review 39:Heater is automatic, you have to plug your card when you stay, every time you come to the room.
Review 40:I like this hotel, service from staff is good and very polite. Bed, Kitchen, Room very clean.
Review 41:This is a self check in hotel to keep costs down. However, since there are no staff in this area, anyone can hang around the machines. When we checked in a beggar was harassing people and then followed someone into the foyer (access only via key card only). Luckily a staff member walked by and I told them what happened. Avoid room #3 on any of the floors. It is a very tight squeeze around the double bed if you need to go to the bathroom during the night. Having a laundry would be convenient. There is only a room with ironing board and iron.
Review 42:Clean, modern hotel in a convenient location. Access to a microwave and kettle on the ground floor was handy.
Review 43:The hotel is too simple, no TV, no hair dryer, no electric kettle. The heater didn't work; The quilt is not very clean, has a lot of hair of other people.
Review 44:The location is great and close to city centre
Review 45:Citybox is always my first choice when I travel to Norway (and I travel often). I really can't say anything negative about the hotel, the staff etc.
Review 46:It's not that we didn't like the fact there was no staff - there just weren't any that we saw.
Review 47:Location was fantastic for our needs (we were in transit). Great size room. Automated check-in and check-out process was painless.
Review 48:Beds weren't too comfortable, but nice sized room and worked fine for the 3 nights we stayed. The staff was very friendly, but not too knowledgeable about tourism information.
Review 49:Great location, 5 minute walk from Central Station/Opera House and from the main street in the city. Had social/hostel feel to the hotel. I also liked that they had the interactive recommendations in the lobby, which was useful.
Review 50:USA credit cards didn't work. Tight space for 4 people. Bathroom is very small
Review 51:Modern furniture and tech. Heated floors in the bathroom is a great touch
Review 52:The entrance place was under renovation works. The street under massive renovation works. This should have been notified to the guests in advance with some sort of Bonus, compensation. Even a nice letter in the rooms and a nice chocolate would do part of the work. Try harder next time. Other than that lovely.b
Review 53:Simple. Smart. Clean. Good taste. Will come again.
Review 54:Street and hotel were both under construction. Construction of hotel was nearly complete at the end of my stay. Trouble w my keycard twice. The least expensive single room is comically small
Review 55:Excellent location a quick walk from the train station and many sites. One block from Karl Johnann shopping street. Super clean and new.
Review 56:Despite the ongoing construction on the entrance road and interior lobby area, the room was facing the beautiful posthallen building and a very quiet street.
Review 57:Excellent location, room, and no-frills hotel
Review 58:The location is exceptional. Just a block away from Oslo Central Station and the bus terminal. Also, the main street is a block away. Do yourselve a favor and stop by Nilsen Spiseri. Is a traditional Norwegian restaurant where they serve gløgg all year! The room is very confortable and the bathroom floor is heated, which was a super plus for us.
Review 59:The walls above the bed were dirty, the ceiling very low and breakfast was expensive. The lift was also very slow.
Review 60:The location was great for the Central train station and close to the opera. Little interaction with the staff, but they seemed friendly and accommodating with other guests. The auto check-in/out was easy.
Review 61:the heating system was really bad on the 6th floor. We kept hearing loud water flowing in the heating pipe firstly. We asked to change our room once. The second one is unfortunately also on the 6F, and no surprise it begins with the water filling process in the heater. About 30mins later when the noise was gone, the heat was also gradually gone... And finally NO heat at all :( I almost caught a cold, which I definitely want to avoid at the beginning of my Scandinavia trip...
Review 62:Good location: 5min walking to Oslo S(main railway station) easy Checkin/out: quite convenient to deal with check terminal
Review 63:Towel in room had human faeces on it . I obtained new towel from trolley on floor and reported the soiled towel to your staff at reception .Please review this with whoever is doing the laundry!
Review 64:Excellent location.Clean comfortable.
Review 65:Staff speaks English fluently and are very helpful. Loved the atmosphere and design, facilities are top notch. Heated floor in bathroom - class! I'm glad I chose this hotel for staying in Oslo. The location is central as well, all shops and activities nearby.
Review 66:There was no room service but I guess that if you manage to keep the room clean it is not a problem, for the price you pay its reasonable not to have room service.
Review 67:What I really loved about this hotel was the location, it is just 10 min walking or less from Oslo Central Station, the hotel is very modern and clean, the room was comfy and very warm! I loved the bed! The toilet was clean as well and modern!
Review 68:It's location in the city- very central and easy to get to. The self serve checkin is simple and quick. The room is small but cosy and offers everything needed for a short weekend away
Review 69:City Box is in a very central location, the staff were friendly and helpful and managed to arrange a room for an early check in for us, without additional charges.
Review 70:TV in each room would be good even though the WiFi s great. Wardrobe s missing
Review 71:New concept, simple ! I left my card in the check in machine(no humans at check in ) and forgot about it.The staff came to my door and gave it to me.
Review 72:If you have a credit card with no pin, you are unable to check in using machine and have to wait for a member of staff to do so.
Review 73:Location is great and the hotel is clean. It is a no frill hotel, quite spacious and good value for money. Usually budget hotels like this do not have windows but this one has and provides you with some view.
Review 74:Wish I knew that i could have booked directly through their website so it is cheaper price.
Review 75:It was modern and simple just like the website stated. We loved it.
Review 76:A very modern and tastefully decorated hotel. Low cost but not low quality. The road works which are mentioned are pretty close to completion (Dec 2015) and caused us no problems. The location is superb; so close to the central train and bus stations and close also to all the attractions we wanted to walk to. We thoroughly recommend the 48hour Oslopass which we made full use of including 20% off at restaurants and free transport and admission to all the things we wanted to see. The timing of the pass meant that we could use it to reduce the cost of the train back to Rygge Airport as we only had to buy a ticket from Ski to Rygge.
Review 77:There is no TV in the room, there were also some construction works in the hotel and outside but it didn't affect our sleep.
Review 78:Location is great, it was perfect for one day stay.
Review 79:Wifi kept cutting out. Only 1 towel each. We upgraded to the double, which was still pretty small, so I'd probably avoid small double if there are 2 of you.
Review 80:Really comfortable bed. Underfloor heating in bathroom, dried towels & splashes quickly. Excellent location for train station and for walking round sites in city centre.
Review 81:Although the self check-in console worked without a hitch checking in, it didn't work properly checking out, but there were no adverse consequences. The information (online and printed) indicated that breakfast could be obtained at the cafe at the corner of the block. However was not mentioned was that it (and most other places locally) only opens at 10 am on weekends (and presumably public holidays), so that I had a rather hungry first morning.
Review 82:The online description and photos accurately portrayed this hotel, ie as a no frills facility with comfortable beds and a very convenient central city location close to the station As a result,I did not have any false expectations (my ratings are for hotels of this type) and it made touring the city easy.
Review 83:Quite expensive and not very many facilities.
Review 84:Ideal location 2 minutes from the station. Not noisy and bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was nice and clean.
Review 85:I have nothing to complain about. This hotel was perfect for our long weekend in Oslo.
Review 86:Excellent location close to the central station, very clean hotel with everything you need. There is also a nice restaurant downstairs which is very convenient for morning breakfast, lunch or dinner. Everything was great at this hotel!
Review 87:Excellent value for money. Clean no thrills but confortable hotel at an excellent price just in the heart of Oslo. Also very close to train and bus stations.
Review 88:Unfortunately there were no TVs or radios in the room which was fine because it encourages you to get up and get out but some light entertainment would have been nice for when you're getting ready to go out.
Review 89:Loved the location, the style of the hotel and the friendliness of staff and other individuals who were staying in the hotel. Beautiful views from the rooms. Had a really enjoyable time and would definitely recommend City Box.
Review 90:It is really basic as in no TV, no toiletries, tea coffee etc
Review 91:Loved how modern the apartment was and very clean. Perfect location as right next to the shopping street, 3 minutes walk to the train station and metro. The bed was the comfiest bed I have ever slept in and the room was mega quiet. If you want value for money in a modern hotel right bang in the middle of Oslo I can't recommend it enough. If you are travelling back to Rygge Airport the train station is really easy to get to and quick to get back. Don't bother walking over to the bus station.
Review 92:Lovely hotel right in the middle of Oslo. Easy booking & great rooms. Everything was well organised. Vending machines and a cafe right in the hotel. Everything smartly done- will definitely book here again!
Review 93:I booked this hotel because of the price and location. I needed a good place to stay (this was for 2 nights) where my friend could join me for one night without having to pay a ridiculous amount. It turned out to be the cheapest place to stay where I could get a twin room (there's a small twin room and a big one, I chose the bigger one for just 100 kr more because the beds were not pushed together in a tiny space).I already knew that it was incredibly close to the train station, but I was so happy to actually experience just how close it was. It did not take more than 3 minutes to get there. Once I got to the self check-in, I entered my details and the touch-screen was not very responsive. It took quite a few jabs at the screen to get things working. After I paid and got to the end of the process, I got a message saying that my room was not ready. I looked at my watch, recalling that I could not check in before 3 pm, and saw that it was 2:55 pm. I just decided to wait on the sofa for 5 minutes but then a staff member popped up and assisted me. It turns out that it did not give me a room key because I had requested a quiet room so they had to work that out.Eventually, I was asked to try to use the self check in again and I got my room key. The hotel is divided into 2 buildings, building A and B. I was in B and I just followed the signs on the walls to get to it. It's a 1 minute walk. When I got to my room, I was pleasantly surprised at the fact that it was quite spacious. It was very simple yet great. I then noticed that there was no fridge or any extras of any sort. This is to be expected with such a price, as everyone else says. But when I saw that there was also no hairdryer or anything else and just one towel hanging in the bathroom, I went to the guy at the reception (a room hidden behind the self check in) and asked him about it. He just gave me a hairdryer and said they would give me towels if I needed them.
Review 94:I forget my expensive wrist watch in hotel Room, I called hotel front desk immediately in 2 hours after checking out to inform them, they say they didnt found it. But I am quite sure I forget it on my bed. Otherwise hotel facilities were good & location was excellent.
Review 95:Couldnt really rate the staff as we didnt see any
Review 96:Good location very close to train station and shops. Automated checkin was easy and the communal areas were nice and modern
Review 97:Cleaning is only every 4 days, and getting extra cleanings in between costs 15 EUR a pop, which is pricey. Rooms are really small with no space for luggage & one rod to hang jackets.
Review 98:Location was bang in the center of the city, which is impressive at this price point. Theres no reception, but the staff in the office is really helpful.
Review 99:No Televisions, loud noise from street, building shakes when trucks go by, place was going through construction, room smelled bad.
Review 100:Not much, WiFi reception was good.
Review 101:Area for microwaving food available; they don't do breakfast. Check in machines easy to use; person available for advice if you have problems. Modern and clean interior.
Review 102:Wall is quite thin and allows noise from outside and upper room to annoy you when some guests are noisy or walk all night
Review 103:Very new, clean and near everything and easy to find. Room is not small and very convenience. Living room and pantry has enoughfor many guest
Review 104:Road out front and entryway under construction-beware if you are in search of quiet during the day.
Review 105:Great common areas (including microwave, fridge and vending), close to central station, modern facilities, good value in a very expensive place.
Review 106:I much prefer an actual human being checking me in and greeting me rather than an automated machine. Also, from the States my credit card did not work in the system (asked me for a PIN number for a credit card?). I had to ask the desk agent. He solved the problem quickly and I was on my way. I still think you should give guests a choice and not force everyone to use a machine to check-in.
Review 107:I travel all the time around the world and I think Citybox really has figured out how to do a hotel experience: comfy bed, wonderful shower, comfortable chair, and convenient location. They don't go overboard on everything else, but the essentials are there and that's all I needed and wanted. Very well done.
Review 108:No breakfast included & no TV in room. Bed Light missing light bulb. Hard to find bakery around on a sunday coz cafes were closed. Its fine for adult budget travellers but not suitable for family with very young children.
Review 109:Location close to train station & close to shopping n restaurants & fast food.overall okay n can recommend.
Review 110:The street outside the hotel I was subject to roadworks which was a bit unsightly, but this was not the fault of the hotel and had no impact on our sleep at night.
Review 111:Room was clean, comfortable with a minimalist but cleverly thought out approach to fittings and layout, perfect place to sleep and keep luggage safe while maximising time spent exploring the city
Review 112:As soon as we arrived we discovered that they were rennovating the entrance. Check-in was late, some members of the staff were kind of rude, and I had the feeling that we wre on their way, maybe because we were staying only for one night...
Review 113:location, clean rooms
Review 114:They were doing construction on the roads outside the hotel which made dragging the suitcase very difficult. Of course this is not the hotel's fault.
Review 115:The room was simple but very comfortable. Excellent location close to the station and the main street.
Review 116:No air conditioner. There is a heater but the room was a bit cold. I could not warm up the room with this heater.
Review 117:Clean and quite new room and facility. Room might be a little small compared to the other hotel but it was more than enough. Clean bathroom. Good location 4-5 min walking from the Oslo S station.
Review 118:It was very cold in my room (629)! No means to set heating acc. own preferences! No device (phone?) with (automatic) alarm clock (it's very distressing for traveler).
Review 119:Too soft beds. If two people sleeps on them, then if somebody moves another person moves as well.
Review 120:Very good place, near station. Main street is also close.
Review 121:The public area was a bit messy/dirty and felt a bit too much like a youth hostel.
Review 122:New built place, nicely equipped. Simple, but functional and modern. Good value for money in central Oslo
Review 123:Great hotel in a great area - close to the central station, Karl Johan Gate and easy access to everything you want to see in Oslo. Room was clean, comfortable with good bathroom. Would highly recommend for anyone traveling to Oslo who needs simple, great accommodation.
Review 124:Beds are very narrow, the elevator was broken one day and I had to climb 7 flights of stairs, the heater didn't work in my room the first night and the first room heater I was given didn't work. I had to get another one from the staff. The construction outside the hotel made it really difficult to sleep at night.
Review 125:Very clean and helpful staff, when you can find them. The bathroom floor heating was fantastic.
Review 126:No cleaning of rooms at all for the entire duration of your stay. No in room TV. Kettle and hair dryer upon request.
Review 127:Location is good and it provides a microwave at the lobby.
Review 128:The hotel was in massive construction, but they never give any cut ie.half price. The lift was not working either.
Review 129:The location is close Kahl Johan Gate and its easy to register at the kiosk for checkin.
Review 130:Staff not always visible. Had to send a message to hotel's facebook for one to arrive but one did promptly appear once I had sent this.
Review 131:Great location, close to everything you need. Clean simple rooms, exactly what we needed. Good value for money, would stay again.
Review 132:This is a very central hotel only about 2 minute walk from the train station and the main shopping area. It has a self service reception area with tea and coffee making facilities (euro for coffee and hot choc) and a vending machine in the reception area which is handy as its a very expensive city!!!
The Fine Print
