Reviews for Smarthotel Oslo
Review 1:Room was super small (about 8 square meters, incl bath), so no space even for clothes (no wardrobe). So was bath, especially sink (serious challenge not to miss it...)
Review 2:Convenient location, clean, all one needs.
Review 3:Bedroom was Ok for a short stay - wouldn't stay longer than 2 days as space is very limited. Felt more like a cabin. No free toiletries so bring your own before you go. No Hangers, no closet in the room - where are you supposed to hang your suits/jackets/coats ?
Review 4:Unbeatable location, no frills, straight-to-the-point service, great value with Breakfast included. Friendly staff and easy check in/check out.
Review 5:Someone knocking Heavenly at my door, at night, both times I've stayed at the hotel.
Review 6:Kind of everything. My first choise while staying in Oslo and other cities.
Review 7:1. They don't charge you beforehand if you book through a third party (ie. Booking.com), so you have to pay when you're there, and they don't accept cash payment. You have to pay by card even for breakfast. 2. The bed and pillows are way too soft to give a comfortable support.
Review 8:Nice and warm room, nice bathroom with big high water pressure. good location.
Review 9:Excellent hotel. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was lovely also, good selection to choose from. The room was spotlessly clean and although small, was really well designed and worked well.
Review 10:We were very disappointed by the bad attitude of the staff. The table in our room was broken and not fixed.
Review 11:Good location, a few minutes to the city centre by foot.
Review 12:Everything was cashless payments even for a bottle of water you had to pay with card. Inconvenient when you get charged non sterling transaction fees
Review 13:Clean and modern hotel, excellent value for money and great location
Review 14:Minor gripes: No kettle available in room. Hot breakfast items would have been much better if kept warm.
Review 15:Location is great: easy to get to from Oslo airport with short walk from Nationaltheatret station. Easy access to downtown, Grunerløkka, Aker Brygge, etc. Great value for money. Shower is the best that I've had in a hotel in Scandinavia - most end up leaving the floor soaked but the one at Smarthotel does not.
Review 16:Breakfast could only be paid for by card. Did not want to incur charges for using card abroad.
Review 17:The hotel was clean and modern. Beds were extremely comfortable. Bedroom was very quiet and made for a good night's sleep
Review 18:- I was granted a new room as soon as I asked - as soon as I realised that the window in the first room couldn't be opened. - I was given an x-tra towel upon request.
Review 19:Kept hearing people in room next to mine coming in and out of their room most of the night and after 12 am. It was annoying and rude.
Review 20:Location and hotel was clean.
Review 21:Unable to pay in cash in the hotel shop and no coffee making facilities in the room.
Review 22:Location was very close to everything for a short stay in Oslo and staff were very helpful and customer focused.
Review 23:Organised, neat, tidy. Great if you don't mind small but well designed spaces. Good quality produce for breakfast. (A note about the Oslo airport it is located 50km outside of the city. Take the fast train, the taxi's are very expensive)
Review 24:The smallest room I've ever experienced; but it was well designed so that it still feels comfortable
Review 25:Good value hotel in central Oslo. I paid for the breakfast but it was also a good deal considering the cost of living in Oslo
Review 26:The room was a bit on the small side even though I had upgraded to a superior.
Review 27:It was located quite central in the city with the gallery and historical museum minutes away.
Review 28:This is an honest concept. Small rooms, ok beds and minimal design and a cheep price. The quality of the hotel is high, the service is good for the price you pay and I would choose this as a modern traveling person always in the go.
Review 29:Poor internet and small tooms. Expensive breakfast.
Review 30:Great location and staff. Good price pr night. And they where flexible regarding late check-out and changing day because i booked wrong day.
Review 31:Tiny rooms, but this was expected based on other reviews. Sink in particular was so small and water kept spilling everywhere. There was no space to put your toiletries.
Review 32:Good location - 20 mins from train station and 10 mins walk to high street. Convenience stores and coffee shops are 5 mins walk. Nice staff, access to food and water.
Review 33:Unfortunately, my travel plans changed and my stay in Oslo was shortened significantly. I could not adjust the dates of my stay but the hotel was very good about understanding that I did not want to cancel my original reservation. Booking.com worked with the hotel to make sure I wasn't marked as a 'no show' so that I would have a room when I arrived.
Review 34:The location of the hotel was excellent. Very closely located to several city attractions (The Museum of Cultural History, The Royal Palace, The Ibsen Museum, and The Norwegian Nobel Institute). The room was clean, quiet and cozy. The double room was a good size for just one person, while it cost more, it didn't feel too small.
Review 35:The rooms vere incredibly small. But for that money I don't think that I can ask for more.
Review 36:Location and overall look of the hotel + great cleaning service.
Review 37:The mattress was a bit saggy when my wife and I were on it. Replace the mattresses and there would be nothing major to complain about.
Review 38:This hotel is clean, quiet, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast was 220 NOK total for my wife and I, which is dirt cheap for Oslo prices. I would stay there again.
Review 39:The standard double room is just as small as it looks, you may need to do a little actobatics if you're staying in 2 people with big luggage
Review 40:One of the most comfortable bed ever found in a hotel, and the rooms was very quiet and nicely funished. Breakfast buffed is abundant and offers a waffle machine (love at first sight). The hotel is jsut two steps away from Karl Johans gate.
Review 41:Very friendly and pleasant stuff. I've asked about changing my booking details (length) a little bit and hotel agreed on this with no questions. Many Thanks!
Review 42:It was a big breckfast buffet but it was missing a soya or havre milk.
Review 43:The room is small but I think is more then enought for a few days of travel. I like the modern aspect and the 'smart' room, withthe 'drop-down' table from the room. I loved the breackfast buffet. Plenty of thinks for a vegan to fin. Although, I would add a soya milk or have milk.
Review 44:tiny room (really tiny, Japanese style!) bad service: they tried to chargé twice for room (OK, this could be misunderstanding) and then tried to charge again for breakfast, which had been prepaid
Review 45:location is good, close to city centre
Review 46:A little pricey for how small the room is
Review 47:Very clean and modern, perfect for a solo traveler. Location is great, being in the city center and being close to restaurants as well.
Review 48:the room was very small, bed was short, nowhere to hang clothes. Shower not even suitable for very slim persons. No phone no trash can. No BBC tv reception on 3 of my 4 day stay. Washbasin too small to even wash hands.
Review 49:The location
Review 50:Window into some internal space instead of a normal street. Parking not included. Breakfast not included (can be bought).
Review 51:Perfectly clean, central location, helpful staff, quiet.
Review 52:Location, in the center of Oslo, walking distance to everything important. Definitely will try the other hotels from that group. Highly recommend for short budget stay, in a central location, great comfort, pleasant staff, nice breakfast!
Review 53:Not having anywhere to store clothes and a decent chair to sit on
Review 54:The position of the hotel, it was generally quiet, although the first night their was music playing from 3am to 8am !
Review 55:The hotel is designed to give very little staff contact. Electronic checkin (lol that didn't work) and electronic signin for breakfast including payment without seeing a staff member.
Review 56:Room was modern clean with everything working. Very handy to tram, 2 minute walk to train line.
Review 57:Nothing. Everything was OK.
Review 58:Everything was good. Location is great. It's situated in the center of Oslo near Royal palace and Karl Johans street. We had stopover in Oslo, so it's easy to get there from the airport - the National Theatre station is only in five minutes by the walk. Room was not big but cozy and bed was comfortable.
Review 59:I am 6'6" Tall. The bed in had was too short thus sleep was not comfortable. Excessively oversized pillow was not comfortable and tiny tiny pillow could not even support my foot. Isn't that strange that you build a bed not long enough for bigger people of Northern Europe. You errored huge there!
Review 60:The staff member that choked me in was nice!
Review 61:The rooms are very small. Initially we booked a standard double room which is very very small so we had to pay extra for an upgrade for a decent room - Superior double room , which was much bigger.
Review 62:Very good location , terrace on the 7th floor , good breakfast .
Review 63:It felt squishy and lacked storage space, which I feel could have been better designed even with the same floor plan. It just needed some more wall mounted shelving, like in the tiny bathroom next to the mirror so you can put your toothbrush on it, or more fold out flappy shelves in addition to the one they had built in. Not difficult or expensive. The designers should look at Ikea or the Citizen M hotels to see how tiny spaces can be done well.
Review 64:It provided the basics, was clean and modern, good location and affordable compared to other properties
Review 65:If you want to spend much time in hotel then select another one. Rooms are not very big. However it was ok for me.
Review 66:Good location. Kind and helpful staff. Clean rooms. Acceptable price. Tasty and rich breakfast. Free Wi-Fi. I would like to return here again.
Review 67:Nothing really, perhaps the luggage room could be more secure and the breakfast buffet does not include smoked salmon, but then I am really trying to find anything negative.
Review 68:Centrally located, affordable, modern and efficient, exactly as I like it. Yes, the room is tiny, but it's cleverly designed. The shower was one of the better ones (doesn't normally take me 20 minutes lol). Breakfast was good as well. And the park is just around the corner so I even went for my morning run.
Review 69:Rooms are very very small.
Review 70:Location is very good, close to museums, restaurants. The hotel offers free bikes for guests, what is very interesting, but there are just 5 bikes, so it is important to book.
Review 71:I needed a "longer" bed and a little more room in the shower.
Review 72:I liked everything. I think all hotels of the future are going to be modeled on this model. Loved the breakfast and the clean lines of a generic hotel who is maximizing profitability and passing the savings on to the customer.
Review 73:Prices in hotel shop are high but this is also similar for Oslo as avwhole.
Review 74:Great breakfast, cleanliness, location, atmosphere, and staff very polite and helpful.
Review 75:The room was so incredibly small and cramped, and my partner is 6"4 so the bed was a real issue for him. Our bedsheets weren't changed the whole time we were there and on requesting extra pillows (we were only given one very small pillow each) we didn't receive one for him until the very last day. Paying nearly £500 for this was incredibly disappointing as it felt like a glorified hostel.
Review 76:Great location
Review 77:The room we had was tiny...the closest we had to those Japanese morgue slabs for weary travelers. We could not pass each other if standing.
Review 78:Gracious staff, great location, clean
Review 79:Although having a good small-space room design, the positioning of the bedhead lamp is such that you may sometimes bang your head with its sharp edge.
Review 80:The location is great for being close to the Royal Palace, City Hall, and university.
Review 81:The first night was incredibly noisy on my floor - at one point I was woken up at 5.30 am by a group singing for a good 30 mins. There isn't a phone down to the reception in the room so there wasn't much that I could do. Also it should be warned that the hotel is very close to a club or something so there is pretty loud drum and bass from about 8pm till midnight. Other than that it was a great stay though :)
Review 82:Great location and comfortable and cosy rooms.
Review 83:Very clean, great location. Check-in was completed on a terminal at the hotel, very quick, no hassle. If I'm ever in Oslo again, this is the place to stay.
Review 84:The breakfast was absolutely incredible! The location was perfect (no more than ten minutes walking from anywhere in Oslo city centre, close to train and bus stations, walking distance to major shopping center and supermarkets). For a solo traveler, the room with the double bed was perfect. If you have a family, tend to pack heavily, or enjoy spending a lot of time in your hotel room, this might not be the place for you, as the rooms are quite small and don't offer a lot of room for spreading out (though small, the space is incredibly well-designed and utilized, and wasn't an issue at all for me).
Review 85:No individual beds in the hotel. The room is very small without any space for the clothes and you have to keep everything in your bags. One day there was no toilette paper in the bathroom what is not acceptable. The wifi is not very good.
Review 86:The location is very good.
Review 87:Nothing really. Although the room was a bit small, it was very comfortable and quiet.
Review 88:The hotel allows you to borrow a bike all day to explore the city. The breakfast is affordably priced considering how expensive it is to eat out in Norway- I loved having fresh bread, brie, and healthy items to choose from. The location is also conveniently located-A quick 5 minute walk to the metro AND just around the corner from the bus that took me to the bus terminal in about 5 minutes. I also spent a couple of hours on one of the computers and no one said anything to me.
Review 89:The room we booked was so small that it was uninhabitable. Double bed pushed up against the wall, 2 coat hangers hanging on the wall and room to move. We paid to upgrade to a bigger room, which was better but still very small.
Review 90:Good location, good breakfast, helpful and friendly staff, access to coffee and tea in the foyer
Review 91:Double bed too close to wall ,could not get in without climbing over occupant. No black out blind on window next to bed. Making and paying for coffee/tea fiddly. These were, however, minor niggles.
Review 92:Location, helpful staff, adequate facilities
Review 93:When we arrived we were given the key to someone else's room. We opened the door and found all their stuff. Unacceptable. We asked for a quiet room and they put us on top of an open terrace where people chatted loudly until late at night. The bed was at best for 1 1/2 people. So small that we could not move without kicking each other.
Review 94:Not much in the way of bars or restaurants open late nearby, bit of a walk to the central train station.
Review 95:Quick access, clean and quiet room, easy to find, cool roof.
Review 96:The room was very small only suitable for sleeping. But at least we had a personal space which is much better than those Hostels at the same price.
Review 97:The room has a very good value for money comparing with other Hostels. It's very clean and basically well equipped. Ideal location, a few steps to the Royal Palace and public transport.
Review 98:Very small room, consisting almost just of the French bed; no wardrobe; small window, difficult to open; bathroom was almost like the 'wet cell' (Nasszelle) of a camping car.
Review 99:Near to the city centre (10 min walk), adjacent to the royal palace; daughter (7) was not charged for breakfast; nice grafittis at the terrace of the entrance hall; mostly young guests, but not uncultivated ones; modern scandinavian interieur
Review 100:Central courtyard was a little echo-y if your windows were open
Review 101:Fantastic location, hilariously small (but very comfortable room), nice breakfast, great staff
Review 102:Beds really comfortable, good variety for breakfast, nice location near the palace and train station great for walks. Super market round the corner and other attractions close by.
Review 103:Room size - I have been to many places in Europe, and you expect small rooms, but this was tooooooo small! It really can't get smaller than this. Two us had just one cabin luggage with us, and still there was no space. No place to hang your clothes, no hangars.. felt very cramped. We were there for 2 days, and they don't even clean the rooms over weekends! If you just wish to spend one night in oslo, think of this place.
Review 104:In Oslo, where everything is expensive, this hotel is good for the money I paid, Location is very good, everything was walkable from here. 10-15 mins walk from the train station though.
Review 105:very small rooms no place to turn around and nowhere to put the suitcases. to soft beds. no cleaning on weekends
Review 106:sopprising good breakfast. close to the city
Review 107:The rooms are small 8m2 with WC and shower, the bed is 150 cm wide so for the pair it is not for many nights. Not enough places for the storage of clothing, you can only hang it on the wall - there is no wardrobe (there is not space for it :D). In the 7th floor the signal of wifi was very low.
Review 108:The hotel is really well situtated, walking distance to turist attractions. The rooms are newly decorated and are clean and neat. The rooms situated with the windows to the yard were quiet. There is lovely terrace in the 6th floor with the sofa so you can relax there. The price is smart for hotel in Oslo.
Review 109:The room was hot and the air wasn't so fresh. They could have cleaned under the bed. Breakfast was expensive.
Review 110:The room was clean and just the size you need when travelling solo. Less is more. Friendly and helpful staff. The security was high. Quiet area.
Review 111:Rooms are the smallest I have ever seen, it is ok for one person, but too small for 2, if you do not know each other very well and are not super friends. It just feel awkward, but the price outweight that :) Too expensive breakfast.
Review 112:Absolutely fantastic location close to the royal palace and city center. Very good price without breakfast.
Review 113:You had to pay for everything by card so for travellers who had taken a specific amount of cash out for the holiday we couldn't get drinks at the bar or buy breakfast without getting charged extra by card. Rooms are very, very compact
Review 114:Staff were helpful and friendly Room was clean
Review 115:The double room is too little. There isn't space for luggage and in the mini bathroom the sink is less than 30 cm wide. Impossible to use.
Review 116:Location and staff very kind. A clean hotel with good breakfast and wifi.
Review 117:I assumed that Salmon should be included in the breakfast, but not..... When we entered the room, there was a dirty towel in the room, which shouldn't be there...
Review 118:Small bed, small hallway. If you are into boring grey concrete walls, try the window view from the 5th level room we had.
Review 119:Nice kind receptionist (check-in @ 23:30). Clean, modern building & room. No traffic noise at night. Free Wifi.
Review 120:The breakfast was a bit too expensive. I preferred to organize it myself. Unfortunately there was no access to the fridge.
Review 121:The location was perfect for me, close to the National Theatre. The room was very comfortable and had everything I needed. I liked the 'Ikea' style :) When I was booking this accommodation I asked for the quiet room on a higher floor and I got it. I stayed for 10 days and I will definitely come back next year (I have another 10-day training in Oslo).
Review 122:Great value for money regarding prices in Oslo. Very original room distribution. Small Ok, but spotless, cosy and funtional. More than enough for a 2 days - short break. Staff was really great. Perfect check in. 100% smiling and welcoming. Nice top terrace, good wifi, best location.
Review 123:The room was really small, so was the bed (140cm). Breakfast on the first day was very good with lots of choice. Day 2 was disappointing. They we're out of bread and soft boiled eggs, no juice, no croissants and so on. Too bad.
Review 124:Good service! Great location!
Review 125:The rooms are very small, but thats ok. I would like some coathangers though, and the bed was long enough for me (177 cm tall), but my son at 191 cm would not have been able to fit.
Review 126:Centrally located, clean, nice staff, nice price. Didn't try the breakfast buffet, but it seemed a good offer for NOK 95. Norway is expensive, so one cannot compare value for money with other much lower-priced countries.
Review 127:Hotel only accepts card payments for breakfast and any drinks/snacks. Rooms are small - cosy for a couple and okay for 2 nights.
Review 128:Staff were friendly and helpful. Location was excellent. Rooms were organized to maximize space. Tv in room was nice
Review 129:The upper matress on the bed tended to "walk", i.e. tp shift from the lower matress.
Review 130:The hotel is fresh and clean. It is no fuss hotel, but I liked the cleanliness and the fresh, new and modern look. The room was very small, but comfortable.,
Review 131:Clean, unpretentious, affordable hotel for Oslo. Traveling solo meant I did not need a large room. The small room was very comfortable and had just what I needed for the stay.
Review 132:The 7th floor terrace is overrated. Room is very small though big enough for me. Bed is probably 2m exactly and with walls on either end so bear this in mind if you're taller.
Review 133:Close to center. I actually loved the way everything is automated and self serviceable. The room was very compactly designed which I also loved.
Review 134:The room is a little bit small
Review 135:The hotel is very clean and very modern. If you are on a budget and don't mind staying a little tight, this is the place to go.
Review 136:Access to bed was only from one side because room was so small. Very cramped space.
Review 137:Great central location. Staff all friendly. Breakfast buffet had good selection.
The Fine Print
Please note that Smarthotel Oslo only accepts card payments and not cash.Rooms are not cleaned on Saturdays and Sundays.
