Reviews for M'AR De AR Aqueduto
Review 1:Only one downside. When we first entered the room, there was a definite sewer smell.
Review 2:Huge room in every aspect: tile shower room, separate tub w/ shower, bedroom all very roomy. Nice comfortable bed.
Review 3:Beds have no sheets (not only ours, ALL, as explained on check out), only eiderdon, and a very warm undercover, no useful ac (but have it on all night would be unpleasent anyway with the noise), so it is too hot if you use the bed linen, too cold if not. Little and very annoying surround noise, of machine or whatever, all night long, to ad insult to injury. As you can imagine everything else pales if you can't have a good or at least indifferent night sleep. And this in a (supposedly) 5* hotel. But absolutely nothing stands out, whether the breakfast, service, etc. it is all the bare minimum I would say. The better it has to offer (and only thing worth) is the architecture, something you can contemplate without being robbed of your money. Also, the room needs maintenance, the window frame is moisture dirty, holes/cracks in the wall next to the wc mirror between the hair dryier and power outlet, etc... Lots of space in both room and bath areas, but uncomfortably cold (not minimalistic - empty!), and, given the space conditions the bath/shower could be much better, lacks any interesting features.I wonder if the 5* atribution inhibts people, make them shy or whatever, I can't understant some of the reviews really! It is a beautiful setting (outside the rooms at least), but really an awful experience, the worst I had to date.Last but not least - staff is very nice, but terribly anattentive - for example, plenty of personel but no one will pick up your used plates in breakfast (just let them pile by your side), or, worst, on checkout not a single question about our stay, if it was everything allright, even if only for courtesy - we had to complain forcefully! They kept my email then, and I received a formatted letter asking for good recomendations if we liked it, or to get back to them in writing if anything "was less than perfect", which I did. After an auto reply ("Thank you for your contact.
Review 4:Everything about this hotel was amazing. From location to staff to breakfast and value. We have been traveling in portugal for 10 days and this hotel was by far our favorite.
Review 5:The hotel is a tiny bit scuffed round the edges in places and in need of a little renovation – or perhaps that was just my room, where the bath plug also didn’t work properly and although I mentioned it, it didn’t get repaired. It’s a well designed and appointed hotel but it feels as if it needs some TLC and a little more enthusiasm.
Review 6:The hotel is located a few minutes’ walk from the centre of the town, is quiet and laid out attractively around a garden and swimming pool area with the aqueduct providing a wonderful backdrop, especially at sunset – in fact it’s more attractive than the photographs. The rooms are large and comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. Room service from the restaurant was very good but room service from the bar was less good. Staff were efficient but not particularly welcoming although very helpful on my second day.
Review 7:The room itself was lovely, very large and comfortable, with a deck and a nice view of the aqueduct and the narrow surrounding streets and picturesque houses. Breakfast is very good, high quality with many options. The location is easy to reach and convenient to tourist sites yet removed from congestion and noise.
Review 8:Hamam was not working, and there was no interior swimming pool; trainers in the gym were out of order besides two of them; Spa is working only till 8 or 9 pm
Review 9:Great location in a fortress; Nice interior; Speed wi-fi; nespresso in the room; amenities of wonderful quality; underground parking and a Michelin restaurant o Fialho is 3 mins walk from the hotel!
Review 10:One of our bathrobes was obviously not a clean one, since dirty tissues were found in one of the pockets. It took three complaints before I received a fresh bathrobe. There was obviously a communication breakdown, which they admitted to and apologised for afterwards, but the staff should really make sure they understand a complaint when it is being made.
Review 11:The staff are very friendly. The hotel is very beautiful, the breakfasts were great and the dinner in the hotel restaurant was very good.
Review 12:to bad we only stayed one night :(
Review 13:Luxury wrapped in a historic fabric. Its is within walking distance of all historic landmarks. A true 5star hotel. Excellent staff. Its the perfect place to relax and recharge your batteries away from the busy and loud city life.
Review 14:Not quite enough sun beds around the pool.
Review 15:Great facilities, large room, comfortable bed and friendly staff. Underground parking and close to Evora centre.
Review 16:I stayed in this hotel for 8 days during the high season. The bedroom cleanliness is poor. Thank God I am a very tidy person! Sometimes there was a strange smell in the bathroom (sewer??). In general the walls of the corridors of the hotel are scratched and dirty without maintenance. The glass elevators are always dirty. The bathroom of the pool is not clean twice a day or even everyday and there was no soap for the all days I stayed at the hotel; In the morning some pigeons used to like to bath or drink in the swiming pool and that is tottaly normal and cute. What is not normal is not cleaning the floor around the pool daily, because there is pigeon poop and some feathers. In fact during my staying no one cleaned it and I know it because I used to arrive at the pool very early in the morning - so I used to check it - until late in the afternoon. So this means that people step on the poop and took it to the water of the swiming pool ... I always used my "havaianas" and I used the shower to refresh myself. All the pool parasols need to be replaced because they are torn and with very bad appearance. There is no drinks or food service at the pool. It is when it suits. And the staff informed me that this is a 5 star hotel!!! Even with so many problems...they still 5 stars? Even if you stay in the hotel for 8 days the staff doesn't recognise you or they don't smile naturally. Only if you say good morning they respond with a very quick smille and a "good morning!" because they are in a hurry always. It's an hotel that really needs to improve. If the manager with whom I think I spoke doesn't change attitude it will be bad for the hotel business with so many nice hotels around (I know all of them). When I made my check out they asked about my experience at the hotel I told the reception staff what I am describing here. Well, they only smile and shrug. I felt they recognise the problems because I felt they were a little bit ashamed.
Review 17:The location, general environment of the hotel. The restaurant. The room service. Some staff.
Review 18:This was a fantastic hotel. Spacious rooms, lovely pool, friendly, kind and helpful staff. The design of the whole hotel was of the highest order. Breakfast was abundant and delicious. Really can't praise this place too highly. Our older teen daughters loved the pool. And they said the wifi was brilliant. Good enough to face time the boyfriend. A remarkable blend of modern design in a beautiful historic setting. Thank you for a great week.
Review 19:Ground floor rooms are very big and nice but you don't get any view from the window, basically it is kind of basement if you consider street level.
Review 20:Swimming pool area.
Review 21:- rooms are not soundproof: there was a really annoying loud machine-like noise coming from the outside - the bed & pillows: not comfortable enough; lacking a sheet to have as option to the bed cover, which turned out to be really hot; pillows were uncomfortable (usually 5-star hotels offer a pillow menu) - not enough sun-chairs in the pool area - Wi-Fi connection is poor/unexistent in some areas
Review 22:- amazing breakfast - cleanliness - staff attention to detail and sympathy - facilities: modern and peaceful - location: short walk to the Giraldo square - free parking
Review 23:Breakfast is above expected, a rare combination of beautiful, tasty and local specialties. Restaurant is also very good. The location is just perfect.
Review 24:I adored this hotel. Beautiful modern hotel, great staff. Rooms are beautiful, the grounds are gorgeous. Evora is a beautiful town with much to see and this hotel is only a few steps away...
Review 25:An extremely comfortable bed. Fantastic breakfast - best scrambled eggs we have ever had. Facilities included a gym (which we used), spa/sauna, restaurant, bar - everything you need. Staff were helpful and friendly. Location was perfect - a 2 minute walk into the centre of the fabulous Evora. The hotel building itself was stunning. We stayed 2 nights and wished it had been longer.
Review 26:the restauant service and lack of cleaness of the spa
Review 27:enjoyed the hotel decor, the pool and the sushi is fantastic, but (and its a big but), the service at the restaurant completly ruined the dinner !! and all the night..! i had to finish dinner at tasquinha do oliveira a great typical restaurant nearby
Review 28:The hotel is in a great position just inside the city walls and parking is included - essential in Evora. The gardens actually include part of the aqueduct and there is a rooftop bar to make the most of the view. Although the location is within the UNESCO World Heritage city, the hotel is 'modern luxury': the bedroom opened onto the garden and has one of the best hotel beds anywhere whilst the bathroom has a big bath and big separate shower. Staff are cheerful and helpful. We'd definitely stay here again.
Review 29:Only one armchair. WiFi signal erratic.
Review 30:Large comfortable room we booked one with a balcony. Large bathroom, comfy bed. Excellent breakfast. Very good Spa. Our stay was in November so too cold to use the pool but the pool area looked very inviting for warmer days. Good blackout blinds.
Review 31:to leave the hotel... could have indoor pool
Review 32:the view was excellent, classy interior design, great facilities(pool, spa, gym, library, bar, parking), elegant and charming restaurants inside the hotel. Breakfast was amazinggggggg.... One day would be more than enough to visit the whole town
Review 33:nobody came to ask us if we wanted drinks when we lay at the pool. otherwise everything perfect
Review 34:Stunning rooms, large pool, great location, very good breakfast. The barmaid makes a very good mojito.
Review 35:Wifi didn't work in room and the coffee machines in the foyers have a price of a good bottle of Portuguese wine!
Review 36:The hotel is centrally positioned, clean and tranquil, good breakfast.
Review 37:We have never experienced a hotel that would only let you book for only one person, you couldn't change your reservation online for two. When you go check out they charge €28 extra for 2nd person. It was annoying.
Review 38:We liked the location, staff was helpful and attentive. We've stayed at many nice hotels in the past, but this hotel's breakfast quality was amazing. Half broad dinner was differently a great deal.
Review 39:Evora is a very interesting city, and M'AR De AR Hotel mixed the old city (the near Aquedut and its restaurant) with modern installations, comfortable bedroom and excellent swimming pool
Review 40:The restaurant was superb. the staff were extremely professional and courteous. The room was very luxe with a big bathroom in the middle of it. The hotel is also very close to the centre of Evora, making it an ideal spot for sightseeing.
Review 41:Somebody had been smoking in the room we were given but immediately we were given a different room, however not with the double bed we requested but with two singles.
Review 42:Breakfast was spectacular, room size excellent and beds extremely comfortable. We are spending the last night of our tour there and are looking or ward to our return.
Review 43:pool bar service rather slow and unambitioned. Minor but to be mentioned.
Review 44:hotel in a historical building inside the city walls. quiet place. nice pool area and bar area. Service was excellent.
Review 45:Nothing. It was a Great Hotel !
Review 46:Great location, not to close to action but close enough. Clean big rooms. Luxury Feel. Pool was nice and service across the board was wonderful. Parking on site. Would stay here again.
Review 47:Although the hotel is great, the price is high (also compared to the other hotels we had during our holiday and which were also great).
Review 48:The location is excellent & the hotel is beautiful, great breakfast.
Review 49:As a well seasoned traveller, I can gnerally find something negative, but not here!
Review 50:The hotel was lovely and well situated for site seeing. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms impeccably clean and large. The breakfast presented a wide variety and high quality items. What more can anyone ask for? Nothing!
Review 51:Their was a lack of staff to service bar and pool area. Had to go to reception to get a drink. Then they didn't come to see if we wanted anything else.
Review 52:The location, room, pool, restaurant all great, car parking very easy.

Review 102:Suites are all on the outside of the building so suffer from noise from the nearby cobbled road.
Review 103:Great location, food, staff, decor, safe parking.
Review 104:The staff seemed apathetic and unenthusiastic.
Review 105:Comfortable, good location and parking. Easy base to drive to other parts of Alentejo.
Review 106:The location, the food, the city, the possibilities to see old places around. Best place of Portugal!
