Reviews for Hotel Nord Otaru

Review 1:Perhaps it is in the Fall Winter, most of the restaurant close around 6.00pm and only few left. Not quite used to us when we came from the city that never sleep.

Review 2:Location is the best, just right next to the river and easy to explore all area you should have.

Review 3:The beds were very comfortable and there are 2 bathrooms for my booking for 4 pax. Warm and near to the train station and the canal. With their limited English they were able to understand what we needed.

Review 4:It's not far from the JR train station. Located next to the canal and a great view, also most sights are within walking distance. the old part of town was great. The food was good.

Review 5:The most expensive hotel we stayed in in Hokkaido.Arrived just before dark. We thought we had booked for a room with a view but was told it would be 150 yen extra each for a room overlooking canal. The restaurant and bar were both closed for a private function but the restaurant and top floor bar with views over city play a huge part in their advertising and attracting customers. With no bar access we asked for ice to have a drink in our room. Ice was 108 yen. Not the money it was the principle. It was the only place in all of Japan we had to pay for ice. The breakfast was ordinary. Friendly staff but bound by strict rules of management.

Review 6:Walking distance to restaurants and tourist shops. Staff were friendly and polite.

Review 7:Service was not up to expectation. Language challenges. We had many boxes and luggages and the porter did not help much.

Review 8:Location was the main priority for us.

Review 9:We have brought the electricity travel adaptors along. However, one of our adaptors is a three-pin one while the socket in the hotel room are two pinhole. There is no way to borrow one from the hotel as there is a note in the hotel room stating that they don't lend any adaptor to hotel guests. They are not so helpful to their customers. There is only one pillow in each bed and it is too soft and not supportive.

Review 10:The location is relatively close to the JR station and restaurants

Review 11:Food was alright but feel should provide more variety of western food.

Review 12:Separation of toilet and showering area. Showering area separate from the bath also very good idea. Love the Japanese toilet bowl and system. Clean!!

Review 13:the added sofa bed was really uncomfortable, breaking my waist after sleeping for a night

Review 14:the building itself looks nice, location very good right beside the canal, good facilities in the room

Review 15:I lived here for 1 night at around 23000yen which is the 2nd high among the 4 hotels I stayed in this Hokkaido trip. This hotel is not bad but just so-so. I chose this hotel as I wanted to live by the cannel. It is not wise choice though In fact, the cannel/hotel is just 7-10 mins from JR station. But pulling the luggages over the slippery slow is not fun. I would recommend to live by JR station and walk to the scenic spots instead

Review 16:Chose this if you prefer to live by the cannel. Breakfast buffet is nice

Review 17:Small bathroom/toilet, quite a walk from Otaru station especially walking uphill to the station in the rain/wind on icy roads and pathways with luggage (shuttle service would have been good).

Review 18:Spacious room with sitting area, right next to Otaru Canal, complimentary discount and free coupons for the area and free working wifi.

Review 19:none

Review 20:The best hotel in Otaru, close to the river and harbor, 5 mins from the main glass street by walk. very comfort and clean room. staff are all very nice and helpful to reserve restaurant and taxi.

Review 21:I felt ripped off. The price is way too high, and they charged for parking and all the 'extras' hotels usually include, like bathroom supplies (shaver, toothbrush, etc) and tea and coffee. The parking is also a hassle. We had to park our car away so it was not easy to access. Reception staff also reluctant to help, we kept having to plead with them for simple things like unlocking the window in our room and letting us keep the car there till checkout time while we explored the town in the early morning.

Review 22:Great location, right on the canal. It's on the end of the tourist strip, so good start/end point. There are a lot of negatives, but if there were no other options, I would stay here again.

Review 23:None

Review 24:Otaru is a small town. Location of this hotel in centrally located. It is within walking distance to majority of the places of interest. Highly recommend this hotel to FIT travellers.

Review 25:I feel the rating of 8.3 for this hotel is over rated. The bed was terrible. I can feel the springs of the mattress. I got a stiff neck pain afterwards. The breakfast was terrible. It was worst than school cafeteria food and fast food chains such as burger king and mcdonalds. The room is relatively small. Booking.com stated it has 300 sq. ft. but I am not sure about that. There is no hot spring or onsen in this hotel.

Review 26:The location was pretty good. The room is fairly clean.

Review 27:Room decoration & hotel interior are not our style. Damp smell in d bathroom.

Review 28:Pillow is super comfy!! Separated toilet & bathroom. Good Breakfast. Convenient Location.

Review 80:The location

Review 81:old room and furniture

Review 82:location

Review 83:The staff was very helpful as he helped us to make a call for extending the car rental service with Nippon Car Rental Co. Spacious and comfortable room. Top floor offers panoramic views of the ocean and mountains where we could not miss out.

Review 84:The furniture were very old fashioned. The bathroom was not user friendly. The water outputs were soft.

Review 85:The location was very strategic. The room was spacious. Staffs were very friendly and helpful.

Review 86:The only thing I don't like us the hotel has central air condition which mean you can't control it whether you feel too hot or too cold. You can just turn it on or off. In my case I felt too hot and the ac is in heating mode. The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from train station. Not that far but in winter 10 minutes in windy day is something cruel.

Review 87:Very great service. Large room and very great bath room. Comfort bed. Nice view of canal. Great location.

Review 88:Nothing to dislike!

Review 89:The front desk staff was most helpful and knowledgeable. Especially, Matsumoto-San. We will definitely come back. Location was terrific!

Review 90:Had to walk on ice with my luggage because it wasn't cleared in front of the hotel, which was a bit of a sour first impression. Good thing that it was a great hotel and staff service was excellent for me to forget about the ice pretty quickly.

Review 91:The hotel was about a 10-15 minute walk from the JR station, as well as near all the important sightseeing sites - super convenient for a traveller. For the rate that I paid, I was extremely surprised and impressed at the size of the room - particularly the bathroom. A very nice, well maintained and well equipped hotel.

Review 92:staffs manner are good, got a good view room in low season for first time guest is understand -able, quiet, clean, comfortable and spaces. Hope they keep their standard in high season.

Review 93:A fair distance from the railway station though.

Review 94:Great location near the Canal area and lots of interesting Tourism attractions close by. Friendly and helpful service. Great view over the canal and port area from our room at the front.

Review 95:I did not like the big bulky keychain. The hotel needs use smaller keychains (or install a key card system).

Review 96:All the staff members were very nice, polite, and helpful.

Review 97:Room is small as we booked family room however we only got a two single bed room which is under our expectation!

Review 98:Location! Railway station is within walking distance. Sighting seeing is convenience too. Highly recommend!

Review 99:we couldn`t get double bed as request.

Review 100:Good location, bit walk distance to the station about 5 mins, room is billion, big enough, separated toilet and bathroom, and also there is a dressing room as well. Wifi is very fast.

Review 101:building and room quite old. do not like mirrow by the foot of bed ( not feel relax)

Review 102:room so big compare to japan. locate at the opposite side of otaru canal. so you get beautiful view.

Review 103:Staff is bad with English. Did not expect this in Otaru. Provide wrong information about parking after 11am that cost is 400 yen. Initially told me that it is 100 yen per hour after 11am. Argue with them before they are willing not to charge.

Review 104:Centrally located right next to the canal and shopping.

Review 105:one room has windows overlooking hotel courtyard which is small and dark.

Review 106:clean, comfortable , historical building, nice restaurant at hotel top floors.

Review 107:There's no ice machine. We have to buy it from the convenient store. During the winter, it is Ok but it's summer.

Review 108:It's very cozy, the room was well equipped. It seemed to be the only hotel in this trip that let us contrl the room temperature as we desired.

Review 109:the breakfast, the price is high and too simple.

Review 110:Services and Evironment are very good, room is very comfortable and big, we can see the river as well.

Review 111:Uninviting restaurant. Expensive food. Only 2 green tea & 2 black tea bags free in room - had to buy coffee at great expense. Went to nearby shop and bought our own coffee & milk.

Review 112:Location near canal, ferry to Shukutsu and atmospheric shopping street.

Review 113:I sent the luggages to another hotel from Hotel Nord Otaru with the help from lobby staff; however, their English skills was too bad that they sent my luggages to the WRONG hotel!!! which I had to take a taxi from my hotel to the hotel the luggages were sent to pick them up --even cost more than the shipping fee. The staff should have told me that they are not sure about the hotel name so that we can cross check. It might be my bad that I gave them the booking document which have the hotel name in English, and they wrote on the shipping form in Japanese. So I have no idea which it was the wrong hotel til I couldn't find my luggages at my next hotel when I checked in.

Review 114:The location is very good, walkable to Otaru station and tourist attractions. Staff are willing to help with a little bit of English speaking skills.

Review 115:The room is very clean and well-kept. The price is very reasonable andthe room is spacious especially the toiletries area which is very bigcompared with other Japanese hotels which we were staying during ourholidays in Hokkaido. The staff at the front desk are friendly andhelpful though they couldn't speak much English.
