Reviews for Shunyokan

Review 1:Well, being a pampered city girl, I do find having to climb up to my room a bit troublesome.

Review 2:Staff are friendly. Onsen is good and breakfast is excellent

Review 3:Nothing

Review 4:Friendly reception including short initiation to local onsen habits. Wonderful onsen (thermal water bath) free to use during stay. And of course the sensational open air hot bath on top of the building, free view of the mighty pacific while taking a bath.

Review 5:We stayed in the annex building, it felt worn out (don't know about the main building). The Onsen was not available - neighbour hotel onsen could be used instead.

Review 6:Very friendly staff. Nice onsen. Good view.

Review 7:It's our first time living in a Japanese style hotel. The hotel is very traditional inside and outside. The owner told us that the hotel had been run by the family for generations. It was opened 99 years ago. The staff were very friendly and polite. They are so helpful that they would collect our shoes and park the car for us. When we left the hotel, the staff came out of the hotel to say goodbye, with a Japanese style deep bow. The room itself is in traditional Japanese style, if you don't like sleep on the floor on the futon, this hotel may not be for you, but for us, this is perfect as it's the best way to experience Japanese culture. Another good point about this hotel is that it has 2 public hot spring baths available for the guests. One is an indoor single-sex bath on the first/second floor, and another is the open air single-sex bath on top of the building. There're clear instructions in a number of languages (including Japanese and English, probably Korean and Chinese as well) on how to use the public bath. There is also free wifi for the customers. I travelled by car and the hotel offers free parking, so there's no problem for me at all. If you're going to travel by public transport, it's better to check how to get to this location beforehand. I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone interested in experiencing the real Japanese culture.
